It looked as good as it could under the circumstances. A room in the east wing had been chosen, and it was dusty and filled with spider webs. She opened up the two windows and removed as many of the cobwebs as she could -- it is important to have a bright and cheery learning space. She looked at the eastward window and realized how bizarre it is to have a window there looking out at the Guild next door, when there should be thirty to forty rooms between them and their eastern neighbor. She grimaced, shrugged, and turned back to her survey of the room.

The floor was still dusty, and the old school desks and chairs were all warped, cracked, and rickety in appearance -- but they were all she could find from the other rooms. Behind her was the only blackboard she had found. It had its corner broken off, and a big crack meandered down its middle. Chalk wasn't too hard to find, so she had an old box filled with it. For herself, she had a tall stool, and she had brought in some bookcases and drawers for any school materials she might need. She sighed -- it all looked ready, anyway. Empty, but ready.

She began leafing through her notes for the first day's lecture. She felt uncomfortable with this method of schooling, but the method she had learnt by wouldn't work with all the students she needed to teach.

Dlohwamen was the first to enter. He stuck his nose through the ajar door and sniffed warily. Wind Wings, his Airax, squawked loudly above him, and he smiled at her. GaiaShaman smiled at him warmly and he pushed the door open all the way and walked inside, making paw prints through some old dust that hadn't been swept out yet. Franny215 was the next to enter, carrying her Scado, Coconut, as she chose a seat in the front row. Diver_68 hopped through the doorway, next, wielding his new Shoyru Sword and Shield. He posed and stabbed the air excitedly, making GaiaShaman wince at his recklessness.

Come in, Wicca Babe!" he yelled obnoxiously. WiccanBaby84, his girlfriend, walked in. Her Snowbunny, Alexa, forced its way around her and seated itself on a shelf in the room, where it could get a good view of all assembled. Diver's Spyder, Spookie, peered around the door warily. He looked at GaiaShaman and hissed at her, surprising the young Nimmo.

That means he likes you," Franny said cheerfully. Gaia smiled back at the little black Petpet, who, shyly, hid behind the door. He hissed again.

Spookie, Spookie, Whoooooooooop!" Diver yelled exuberantly, making WiccanBaby84 wince a little. Alexa left the room, only to come back forcing the wary Spyder in front of her, pushing him with her paws.

Is everyone here?" Gaia asked, looking around. Diver had finally settled himself beside WiccanBaby84 and was boasting to her about something or other, punctuating his statements with jabs of his sword -- which was making both WiccanBaby84 and GaiaShaman wince.

GaiaShaman took another look at her notes, and glanced uncertainly around the room. The only sound was Diver talking loudly with his girlfriend, who was listening politely (and with a bit of interest).

Smurndov isn't here," Franny giggled. "I'll be right back," she said. Leaving Coconut on her desk, she trotted out of the room. The students were getting impatient as Gwynhwfar strode boldly into the room, Smurndov not far behind her.

Gwynhwfar looked around and smiled at everyone in the room. Smurndov, however, acted shy -- even though he already knew everyone there. Happy, Smurndov's Huggy, followed the duo in with nonchalance, but Gwynhwfar's new Barbat swooped in and seemed to instantly get lost. Swooping and diving, the crazy little Petpet chimed, "Gwyny! Gwyny!"

Gwynhwfar giggled at her new Petpet, "I'm over here!" The Petpet eventually landed on her horns and quieted down, fidgeting nervously. She and Smurndov settled in the back, on the opposite side from Diver and WiccanBaby, and talked to each other in low tones. Happy wandered over to where Spookie and Alexa were, and sat down next to the Snowbunny, scratching her behind the ears until Spookie forced himself between Happy and Alexa so he could get scratched, too.

Is everyone here?" Gaia asked again, nervously. Without warning, a Christmas Cybunny bounded through the door, carrying a huge stack of books and papers. Dropping some papers and restacking them, she said breathlessly, "Sorry I'm late! o0moonheart0o told me to come! She said I should be here, but I forgot. We Cybunnies don't have classes, so I'm new to this. I hope I didn't miss anything! This is the right place, isn't it?" o00Emerald00o said quickly. "We're here," ArticColdSnowFlake said simply, and he headed to the largest table (desk) in the class. Gaia, overwhelmed by o00Emerald00o's speech, merely nodded wordlessly. o00Emerald00o continued her chatter after only a small nervous pause, "That's good, because o0moonheart0o said that I should be here -- because I do magick stuff so much, and she thought you might know something..." o00Emerald00o walked over to the table, which was in the middle of the class, and put her books and papers down on top of it.

Out of curiosity, Franny and Gwynhwfar walked over to see what, exactly, o00Emerald00o had brought with her. ArticColdSnowflake sat nonchalantly under the desk and waited for class to start.

Oh, I brought books. You're supposed to bring books, right? For learning? That's what o0moonheart0o said -- she said to bring books, paper and pencil... Didn't you bring any?

Didn't think of it," Dlohwamen said honestly.

Oh, well... These are some books I got from the Great Guild Library, and I brought some notes, and I brought some blank paper, too....

Um" Gaia eventually interrupted, using an unusually loud voice, "Several hours have passed, I think we should begin the class...."

Um... What about the rules?" o00Emerald00o interrupted, again.

GaiaShaman couldn't find anything to say, and merely looked blankly at the talkative Christmas Cybunny.

Yeah... o0moonheart0o told me about them...

GaiaShaman's mind raced, and quickly she came up with a solution, "Please tell us all what o0moonheart0o said."

o00Emerald00o opened her mouth to answer, but at that moment the classroom had some new arrivals. A tall red Eyrie with a suspicious Horus, a blue Gelert with a happy Christmas Buzzer, a Lupe with a Snowbunny and a green Eyrie filed into the classroom, followed by a yellow Kougra with a Warf. GaiaShaman hadn't seen these pets before. She thought for a moment, and then asked no one in particular, "Are these Neopets members of the Guild?"

Ummm, no," Dlohwamen said sheepishly. "You're also not a member of the Guild," o00Emerald00o pointed out. GaiaShaman shrugged at that fact, accepting the new arrivals. "Dlohwamen, would you introduce us?"

Right," Dlohwamen drawled simply.

I'm Tormontir," the large red Eyrie said. "His Horus is named Amon-Tep," Franny added helpfully. "Who's your owner," GaiaShaman asked. "Tigerslady2," the blue Gelert responded, "I, by the way, am Elvis_Stitch_alian," he said with a flourish of his paws. "And this, my friend, is Zazen, a lovely Buzzer." He said dramatically, eliciting clapping from Franny and a complimentary howl from Dlowhamen (which, of course, made Diver whoop). Smurndov added a low "mooo" to the applause. "Okay," GaiaShaman interrupted, feeling fatigued with the work of the day (which had already taken up quite a bit of time -- and the teaching hadn't even begun!). "Who is this?" She asked of the new blue Lupe.

He's Loop_Scadooop!" Dlohwamen said with a big smile. "And that's Opal," Dlohwamen added, pointing to Loop's Snowbunny. "Nice to meet you," Gaia added with a smile.

I'm Sukendra," the yellow Kougra volunteered. "Um, I'm not really related to the other four, but I do spend a lot of time with them." She smiled, "Oh, and this is Skweek, my Warf," She smiled at the rest, and prodded her little Warf with a big paw. The Warf squeaked in astonishment, his eyes growing really big.

I'm koopheonix182," the green Eyrie without a Petpet said after the others had quieted down. "I'm with Tormontir, Elvis and Loop," he said, simply. He seated himself next to Tormontir.

Okay, you're all part of the class?" Gaia asked,

That's what our owners told us," Tormontir said in a low tone.

The new additions settled themselves in.

o00Emerald00o..." Gaia began in confusion -- "Why in Neopia are you holding your paw up in the air?"

Because I want to ask a question," the nervous Cybunny responded.

Why would you have to raise your paw to ask a question?" Diver yelled from the rear of the class.

B-b-because, its part of the rules..." o00Emerald00o began uncertainly.

Oh, yes! Thanks for reminding me," Gaia said, relieved to change the course of study for the first day, "Please, tell us the rules of a classroom.

o00Emerald00o timidly began to relay all of the rules o0moonheart0o had told her. Of course, we already know all of these rules. But that's how it happened that the first class taught in the Guild happened to be taught by o00Emerald00o instead of GaiaShaman -- for which GaiaShaman was grateful.

The class lasted over six hours as people asked and answered questions and learnt what it was like to be taught in a classroom. GaiaShaman eventually fell asleep in the corner, same with Smurndov and Gwynhwfar, who fell asleep leaning against each other. It had been dark for hours before Tormontir, Elvis, Loop and Koop decided to leave, although o00Emerald00o was still talking about this or that with the others who were still awake and listening.

Eventually, Diver and WiccanBaby left to go camping in the Lupe Woods with their sleepy Petpets, and quietly left the classroom.

The Barbat, being nocturnal, was actively whirring around the darkened room as Franny, Sukendra and o00Emerald00o, were very busily talking to each other. Dlohwamen listened to their conversation, fully awake despite being curled up on a countertop, his Petpet sleeping on his back. ArticColdSnowflake dozed under the table, making little high-pitched snores that couldn't fail to sound cute.

Happy had gotten cold and so he woke up and walked to where Smurndov and Gwynhwfar lay sleeping, tucking himself between them for the warmth.

For most of the night Sukendra, Franny and o00Emerald00o talked in the classroom with the silly Barbat whizzing overhead, making strange flickering shadows and squeaking, "Wizzoo, weezoh, wizzipoo, weekipoo, heehee, heeheehee! Wee wee hee hee!" and other such silly nonsense.

Eventually, however, the Neopets were all too tired to continue and Sukendra went and pried her Warf out of hiding, eliciting a sharp squeak which woke Gaia. Dlohwamen rose and stretched, waking up Wind Wings who cooed at him.

Ooooo, you need some soaking in water!" Franny said, stroking her Scado in concern. The Scado cooed at her and gurgled, then looked in Gaia's direction and stuck her tongue out at her. Dlohwamen took the honors of waking the sleeping Kau while Gaia tried to get the kinks out of her back.

It was close to dawn when the Neopets stumbled home, and only Dlohwamen was lithe and limber as they tucked themselves into their warm beds to sleep in well past noon.

Wind Wing's cry was loud, and caused GaiaShaman to turn around from her meditation. She had been meditating in the Guild's meditation grove, but decided to roll up her mat and follow the bushy Lupe tail into the Guild building.

Inside, she found franny215 talking excitedly to Gwynhwfar, with Smurndov standing awkwardly in the corner. Dlohwamen was at the other side of the room and started trotting down a hallway. Curiosity overcame her and she followed.

After several corners and passages, Dlohwamen found Diver_68 in one of the dark, dusty, hidden rooms. Sheets were draped everywhere over what looked like furniture. Diver had an old chest in front of him and was about to open the lid. Dlohwamen cleared his throat, the noise sounding like a growl. Diver looked up and grimaced.

What's going on?" GaiaShaman chipped in merrily. Both Dlohwamen and Diver jumped, Diver accidentally opening the box in his startlement. It tipped over and a small, silver object came tumbling out, rolling over and over until it was at the doorway where the two other Neopets were.

It was a silver image of a Light Faerie, clutching a single round moonstone, which glistened eerily. GaiaShaman knew not to touch such an object. The teachers of her tribe had told everyone to avoid touching an unknown magickal item, for one never knew what it would do. But, apparently, Dlohwamen knew of no such thing and he reached down and picked it up with his paw. Suddenly, his eyes glowed with bright moonbeams causing Diver to cower under a dusty sheet.

I AM THE POWERFUL SOUL OF THE LIGHTENING LUPE!" Dlohwamen boomed in an unnaturally loud and deep voice. GaiaShaman leaned back into the doorjamb, not sure of what to do. Diver's sheet quivered.

I WAS ONCE TRAPPED IN THIS ITEM OF POWER BY THE GREAT FAERIE QUEEN FYORA, BUT NOW I ROAM FREE!" GaiaShaman did not have a good feeling about this...

Dlohwamen turned and ran through the Guild without uttering another word, his eyes glowing like two huge flashlights. Diver emerged from under the sheet and the sound of Kau hooves rushing down the hallway preceded Smurndov, Gwynhwfar and Franny.

Diver quickly explained what had happened, his words stumbling over each other in the rush to get them out. Franny was in tears.

Well, We should follow him," Gwynhwfar said simply, cutting Diver short. Diver got angry at the interruption, but she was trotting down the hall at a fast clip before he could think of something suitable to say.

Well, without proper guidance, this problem could get a whole lot worse," GaiaShaman thought to herself. The group of Neopets followed the cloud Kau's form, with Diver lagging behind, fuming.

How are we going to find him?" Franny asked. Suddenly, Gwynhwfar's horns started to glow a bright blue.

Gwyny! Your horns are glowing!"

Well, he's a lightening Lupe, isn't he?" Gwynhwfar said simply. She then looked at Franny strangely, "you mean, you didn't know that Kau horns glow during thunder and lightening storms?"

Gwynhwfar's horns proved a more sensitive tracker of Dlohwamen than Smurndov's (probably because she's a cloud Kau), and they could tell they were getting closer to the elusive Lupe because of the brightness of her horns.

Dlohwamen wandered through the west wing. He was no longer under control of himself. In his mind, he fought against the Lightening Lupe, but it didn't work. Frightened, he watched as the Lupe began searching through old boxes and shelves.

What are you looking for?" He thought to the other Lupe. "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!" the other Lupe snapped, but Dlohwamen heard a distant whisper hiss, "the Great Sphere..." "Why?" Asked Dlohwamen. "I'M NOT GOING TO SAY!" The Lupe snapped back -- but again, the whispering hiss, "all my powersss..."

Leaving the darker corridors, the Lightening Lupe ran into one of the more brightly lit rooms.

Now why did you lead me *here* ArticColdSnowflake..." o00Emerald00o's words were cut short with a shriek as a deranged, glowing eyed Lupe almost plowed into her. Her Puppyblew yelped and jumped away. The Lupe bared its teeth at the frightened Christmas Cybunny.

Uuuuuummm..." She squeaked... "I guess I'll be leaving now..." She smiled her broadest smile at the ferocious-looking Lupe. She picked up the most interesting thing ArticColdSnowflake had found, and hopped briskly out of the room. Once outside, her fears took over and she ran breakneck down the hall...

Gwynhwfar finally came across the Lightening Lupe foraging through a deep, dark chest at the end of a long hallway. Now that she found him, she had no clue what to do... Smurndov and Franny joined her, and both stared as dumbly as she at the form of the possessed Lupe...

Diver sulked. *He* was supposed to be the leader of the adventures. *He* was supposed to solve all the problems they get themselves into. "Well, I'm usually the one who gets into them," he thought to himself -- until he snapped at his mind to be quiet. He looked up to see the fleeing form of a Christmas Cybunny.

Well, there's someone who could use my heroic abilities," he said to himself, and he began to run after her yelling, "Hallooo, are you alright?"

o00Emerald00o heard the Shoyru's question and that made her slow down. She stopped and was breathing hard. Diver walked up to her and tried to look as friendly as possible. "Are you okay? Why were you running?"

L-l-l-l-l-lupe!" She managed. "Oh, great, this would have to be about that," he thought to himself cynically.

ArticColdSnowflake reared up and tugged the cloth away from the object o00Emerald00o held in her paws. A smooth silver orb shined in the hall's light.

What, what, what does it do?" The Puppyblew barked. Both Diver and o00Emerald00o looked deeply into the orb. Suddenly, little flickers of light began over its surface, and then the flickers grew... The whole ball was streaming with beams of light as all the lights in the Guild went out and Neopets.com went down for server repairs...

The ball began crackling and the duo heard the unnaturally loud and deep howl of the Lightening Lupe. They cowered in fright, but the light had blinded them and they could no longer see where to go. The two light beams of the Lightening Lupe appeared down a long corridor.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" it shrieked, and they saw the bright lights if his eyes grow larger from the distance...

Gwynhwfar decided to confront the Lupe and mooooed her loudest, she charged just before the power went out, but her bright horns lighted her path. Turning, she saw the bright ball of light with the two terrified huddled Neopets around it. She knew what she had to do. She turned to face the Lupe squarely, trying to protect the hapless Neopets holding the bright orb.

Dlohwamen's shadowed form leaped up, and lightening sparks began appearing at his fingertips. "Noooooooooooooooooooo!" Smurndov mooed and charged between Gwynhwfar and the Lupe. His charge unbalanced the Lightening Lupe. As the Lupe fell, he lost control of his lightening beam and crackles of painful lightening beams arced everywhere. Gwynhwfar, Smurndov, Franny and the Lupe all howled in pain as the lightening arced through them. One stray beam shot down the hallway and hit the glowing orb, striking Diver and o00Emerald00o away from the bright sphere.

Suddenly, the orb exploded into an image of Fyora, which grew larger and larger until it filled the whole hallway.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" The Lightening Lupe howled again, but it also was in vain as, with a gesture of her hands, the Faerie summoned the ghostly energy out of Dlohwamen and sucked it into the sphere with her. Dlohwamen collapsed, and the lights returned.

The Humans cheered as Neopets.com was back up and running, and our heroes all headed towards the now dormant looking sphere, lying all alone on the floor.

What happened?" "What was it? "What?"

I-i-i-is that the Great Sphere?" Dlohwamen managed breathlessly. "The Great Sphere of the Elemental Powers?" GaiaShaman asked. Dlohwamen looked at her blankly.

The Great Sphere of the Elemental Powers is in the back rooms of the Hidden Tower," the Nimmo said simply. "You don't know the story of the War of the Elementals? Anyway, none of the evil Elementals can take over Neopia without getting their paws on that sphere."

Everyone looked at the Nimmo and blinked. "Um, what is this thing?" Diver asked. "Oh, this?" o00Emerald00o asked. "Its just a crystal ball. They connect the different regions of Neopia, and they can connect the different Realms as well. You use them like this..." The Cybunny put her paws an the smooth crystal sphere and stared into it;

Sphere of the skies and of all Light, Bring the Light teachers into my sight!"

The sphere turned cloudy as like the sky, and suddenly the round face and oversized eyes of a Light Faerie peered out at them.

I am a teacher of the ways of magick." The Faerie said brightly in a high-pitched voice. o00Emerald00o smiled back at the aghast Neopets. "Its all in the book, 'Crystal Balls and Spirit Guides'. There's at least two dozen copies in that old, dusty library."

The wizened adventurers looked at each other, embarrassed. GaiaShaman began heading off. "Where are you going?" Dlohwamen asked, "I'm going to study up, would you like to join me?" And so the whole troop of exhausted adventurers went into the dusty old library -- which was larger, even, than the whole perimeter of the building -- to study up on various sorts of crystal spheres...

Throughout the warrens of Neopia there are tales of the great Cybunny Angels, who would appear in flowing white gowns of shimmering mists, descending in a glowing light beam, which would encompass their bodies like a great gold halo. These mystical Cybunnies would descend and heal the sick and wounded, or warn the warrens of danger.

Many Cybunnies have become devoted followers of the shining white Angels, and would create special altars in their honor. White candles on a lacy white altar cloth with silver angel pendants placed upon stands are not uncommon in many warrens.

Although the scent of rose, lilac or lavender is said to follow the presence of the Angels, no one knows for sure where they came from and why they are here. But our investigators have found what seems to be a promising lead.

In a night of devout study, one of our investigators called down the Moon to help with the investigation. The great Moon Goddess descended herself in robes of moonbeams, and told us this fascinating story:

There came a time, yet again," She began, "when the very existence of all Neopets on Neopia was threatened. A great plague had broken out -- no doubt some foul concoction of Dr. Sloth's laboratory.

Faeries and Neopets fought valiantly against the disease, but more and more Neopets and Petpets fell into convulsions and lay helpless, quivering on the ground. The disease, too, soon threatened faeries. The only thing that saved us from Dr. Sloth and the other villains is that they, also, fell ill.

A group of Cybunnies during this time -- descendants of BrightEmeraldEyes, the Cybunny of the Moon -- had gotten together to discuss what they could do about this great, evil plague. They were not skilled in magick, nor were they skilled in science. They had few skills at all. It seemed like they couldn't help, but they decided to try, anyway.

Faeries didn't know what would abate the great disease, and none of the nature spirits were any help. Feeling helpless, the Cybunnies decided to brave the tunnels of Dr. Sloth's lair and see if there was anything they could do from there. They knew the chances were against them making it out in one piece, but with the warren crumbling around them, they felt that there was no choice.

So down into the dank tunnels of one of Dr. Sloth's many laboratories they slowly descended. Cowering at the ends of the steps, they spotted the twitching form of the large green villain himself.

Shut it off... Shut it off..." He wheezed -- it was hard for them to understand what he was saying. But he pointed with one finger to a large, bulbous machine. SilverSilkyFur hopped over to the device, first, but the lever was too high for her reach. BoldBlackTail followed, but he also could not reach it. The other Cybunnies stacked themselves on top of each other until BrightBlueEyes was able to reach the lever and pull it down. The machine clanged once, then twice, and then hissed.

All over Neopia, the convulsions stopped and the Neopets, Petpets and Faeries were able to walk without trembling. But the fate of the brave Cybunnies was not so bright. Dr. Sloth himself regained his health, and they were trapped in his dark, dank dungeons. Pushing a button, he sealed off all exits as the terrified Cybunnies huddled into a corner.

Forcing them into cells with the help of twisted, mutant Neopet slaves, he began testing different diseases on them. But no one on Neopia knew about this, for few knew where the Cybunnies had gone. Months and then a year went by with the poor Cybunnies being tortured and tormented.

Their torture didn't go completely unnoticed, for BrightEmeraldEyes knows all that happens to her beloved Cybunnies and all the other Neopets of Neopia. She cried many emerald tears, but the openings to Dr. Sloth's lair had been hidden even from her. "Eventually, all of Neopia learnt about the atrocities happening to their hidden and unknown heroes, and searches were made -- all to no avail. They never did find those Cybunnies in one piece.

Years later, a group of Gelerts found and descended into an old, hidden lair that had been disused for a long time. Sobs were heard at the end of the corridor. And there, in an old, forgotten dungeon cell huddled the disfigured and diseased remnants of the once beautiful Cybunnies.

Faeries were summoned and descended into the tunnels, and the sickly Cybunnies were brought out into the sunlight. But their bodies had been so broken and abused, that there was no way to heal them completely.

That night, under the wan light of the waning moon, BrightEmeraldEyes herself descended in a cloud of Moon Faeries, and I followed her down to Neopia. She had brought part of her great moon body with her, a piece of solid moonlight containing the pearls of Moon Faerie tears. She crumbled this over the bodies of the ill Cybunnies, and it fell upon them like a spattering of stardust.

Their spirit separated from the body, and their new bodies took form around their spirits, built from the sparkling moonlight -- with a single pearl in each one for a heart. With their new bodies, they grew in size and began glowing, and for the first time in many years, they were free of pain.

BrightEmeraldEyes blessed the new Cybunny Angels, who then flew up into the heavens to be with her. But the Angels have never nor will never forget the pains of disease, and they work hard, to this day, to prevent and cure the many diseases of Neopia created by the many villains. They do not tire, and though they were once few, more and more Cybunnies of pure heart join their ranks to help the poor and weak of Neopia."

With that, the great Moon Goddess took her leave, and we settled in to committing her great story into this article of "Magickal Neopia!"

This has led Cybunnies to be Neopias leaders in the use of crystals for magick, and the use of pendulums for dowsing (for more crystals, usually). Divination is merely a branch of magick, and so crystals find their use there as well.

Most Cybunnies have a collection of precious and semi-precious stones that they use to read the future with. Those older or luckier have larger collection than younger and unlucky Cybunnies. The poorest and most unlucky will just use colored rocks in place of the real stones.

Each stone has its own meaning, like Emerald represents devotion and fidelity, trustworthiness and honesty. So if one asked a question about a friend and pulled that stone out, one would know that the friend is a good friend. Obsidian represents a chance at attracting negative things, so if that was pulled out along with the Emerald, then that friend might have problems with slander from another.
