(( The Basics )) _________________________
Restocking is... buying items in Neopian shops to sell for more. Yeah, that's it. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it can be confusing and often considered a daunting task for newcomers. Finding the right shops, knowing what is good to buy, being able to see what's not good to buy - its not that easy! Don't worry though, I'll help break down all the specifics about restocking so you can start off nice and easy, then build up to some harder shops :) Remember, shops do NOT restock at certain times anymore, they are completely and utterly random now!

(( The Terms )) _________________________
Restocker : Often refered to as an 'RSer', this is just a term used to imply that someone is restocking.

RS : Restock.

MH'ed : This term stands for mishaggled, which means that either the person typed in the wrong haggle number to buy the item with, or they didn't click on the right pet in the haggle image to buy the item (see 'haggling' section below).

Drought : A term used to express that one's shops are not restocking anything new or are currently restocking items less than usual.

Banned : This term is used when people are 'banned' from restocking, which is when they cannot see any items in any shop. This happens when you have refreshed the shop(s) too many times. How do you tell if you are restock banned? Click here and see if there are items.

UB : Unbuyable; this term is refering to if you can buy the item on the Shop Wizard. If you can, it is called 'buyable. If you can't, its unbuyable and only can be purchased via the Trading Post.

5 Second Rule : Once you buy something in a shop, you aren't allowed to buy something else from that shop for five seconds. if you try to buy something before that 5 seconds is up, you will get a page with a sad chia on it that says you need to wait. This is a rule installed by the Neopets Team to let others have a chance to buy things too.

HPD : stands for Half Price Day. On the third day of every month, all shops (with the exception of the Hidden Tower, Little Nippers, the Igloo, etc.) price all of their items at half the price that they normally would. These days are great for making lots of profit, but shops tend to get crowded and items get bought faster than normal.

(( Buying Items )) _________________________
When you go into a shop, there will be pictures of all the items that you can buy in that shop at the time. If you'd like to buy one, simply click on the image. You will get a little popup window that asks if you are sure you'd like to buy it, press the enter key on your keyboard to say yes quickly! Don't bother trying to click on the "yes" button with your mouse, you might get beaten to buying the item. Once you press enter, you will be brought to a page that has a little number box in it and a picture below it with a neopet in it. Quickly type in the little box the price you are going to pay for the item and then even more quickly click on the neopet in the picture below to buy the item. You MUST click on the neopet in the picture or you cannot buy the item.

For tips on typing in the number, see the 'haggling strategies' section below.

(( Beginners )) _________________________
Now that you know all the basics, lets get down to actually restocking! First off is choosing a shop. Now, since you're a beginner, you'll want to try out the easier shops before moving on to harder ones (: I usually suggest to new restockers to try out one of these shops: bookshop, food shop, pharmacy, and snowfoods. These shops aren't too fast and you can usually make a pretty nice little profit in them.

To see what things are good to buy in these shops, take a look in the colum on the right. The shop ID #s are the numbers that show up at the end of the shop's URL. They are specific to that shop, so you can always find the same one!

Once you have chosen a shop to restock at, make sure you have enough neopoints out. Also study up on what items you should go for. Under each shop name in the column on the right, there are things listed that are good profit. Make sure you have an idea of what to go for :) if you think you're ready, start refreshing.

For some restocking 'tips', check the tips section below.

(( Haggling Strategies )) _________________________
Haggling fast is the key to restocking things that are worth a lot! If you can't haggle quickly, you may end up missing items - and we don't want that to happen :( so, here are some strategies to faster haggling that you may want to try out...

Stock Price: 12,059 NP ( for number row haggles )
Good Haggles: 12312, 12323, 12123
Okay Haggles: 11222, 12121, 12333
Bad Haggles: 11111, 12222

Most of the time, 'three finger' haggles are the fastest. What are these? They are haggles where you enter in a haggle number that has three different digits, like 12321. It really depends on the person though, because I know of a few great two and one finger hagglers... however, I myself use three finger haggles like many of my other restocker friends. For me, it is much faster to alternate my fingers from 1 to 2 to 3 than to have to count three 1's to get 111. I'd experiment around with this if you are new to it (:

Also, a good thing to remember is that you DON'T have to enter the exact asking price of an item! If the shopkeeper is asking for 990 neopoints, you can usually haggle 888, 999, or 898 and still get the item without a fuss; however, be careful! Some shopkeepers get picky and will not accept haggles that are on the low side. Try to haggle as close to the exact number as you can. Like for an item that is 58,677 in a shop, try haggling something like 58567. That should get you the item without a problem.

(( Tips )) _________________________

Five Second Rule: Yep, one of the most annoying things for restockers is this rule. If you buy something and try to buy another thing in that shop before your five seconds is up, you will be brought to a page that says so... Get rid of this? You can't really, but a fast way to get past it is to refresh that page until your 5 seconds is up. Usually pressing the F5 button in Internet Explorer browsers works, but just a simple click of the refresh button should bring you right to the haggle page! Yay =D

The Popup Window There is no way to get rid of this feature, but there is a fast way to get through it and onto the haggle page quicker. Don't bother using your mouse when it pops up. Clicking the "Yes, I would like to purchase..." button is slow and takes accuracy and more time that necessary. Just use the enter key on the keyboard to automatically press "yes" when the window comes up (: now that's faster!

Scrolling to the Bottom As you may know, some profitable items tend to stock at the bottom of the shop. Well, instead of scrolling with your mouse on the scrollbar, you can just press the spacebar in most browsers! This is quite handy because it involves no extra clicking and in one press of a button it can save you some time when your shop restocks all the good stuff. If this doesn't work for you, there is always the 'page down' and 'end' button on Mac keyboards that does the same thing. Check it out sometime.

Refreshing Too Much or Too Little? I've been asked more than once, "How many times do you refresh per second?". My answer is usually ... once every two seconds, with breaks here and there. I usually refresh once every two seconds for about 5 refreshes, stop and look at the boards for about 10 seconds, and then resume. You will get banned much quicker if you do not take frequent, short stops in your refreshing routine. Its been proven. Try chatting on the boards a little while you rs, it helps me quite a bit.

A Good Number of Shops This one's a bit tricky. If you're pretty new to rsing, 2-3 is the max that you should try. Get familiar with your shops, know their items well, etc. For intermediate restockers, 3-5 is a good recommended amount (: though, it all depends on what shops you are in and how much attention you want to pay to each of your shops. For advanced/experienced restockers, I recommend anywhere from 3-7 shops in your lineup. Why so big of a difference? Many, like myself, restock in shops that require closer attention to catch the restocks... such as Magic. If you have magic in your lineup, you probably only want a few other shops, so as to not miss a Magic restock while looking at your other shops. Once you're experienced, you'll just kind of 'know' how to adjust your lineup in this fashion.

Turning Off Java and -disallowed_word-? This has been a questionable topic for restockers for quite a while, but the Neopets Team has cleared this up recently. You may NOT turn Java and -disallowed_word- off. If you do, you will either get a neomail from the Neopets Team or be frozen... they have people checking this out on their staff, so be careful and play fair by the new rule. Tis set in stone now.

Blocking Ads with an AdBlocker? This, more recently, has been cleared up by the Neopets Team in their editorial. For those of you who didn't catch their spiel on AdBlocking, here's the rundown. You may... but be wise about it. If it seems like it could give you an unfair advantage whilst playing the game, it probably is - which thus means you are breaking the site rules. Adblockers are /not/ considered programs, as TNT explained. In Firefox, an ever-popular browser for restockers these days, AdBlocker Plus is simply a browser add-on filter. Just be wise about using this feature to restock ~ its legal to use, within reason :)

Fastest Browsers There is quite a bit of talk about Mozilla Firefox being the fastest free browser ~ however, its performance is different for everyone. Despite that, its one of the faster browsers. Safari (Mac only) has had some good reports in the page loading department, as well as Opera. Particularly slow browsers for most are Internet Explorer and Netscape. Firefox and Opera are both available to be downloaded for free - so, why not try upgrading if you haven't already?

Enhancing/Utilizing My Browser For Speed? There are quite a few things you can do. I'll list some of the /legal/ things that you can do to speed up your browser. There ARE ways to speed up your browser that are against the Neopets rules, so do be sure to use some common sense.

For one, you can start by clearing your cache. For most browsers, this option is under your preferences. You can also change your "remember pages for _ days" to a fewer amount of days, so your browser doesn't have to store so many urls. This is also under your browser preferences. While you restock, it is quite handy to use your browser's 'tabs' option (Firefox, Internet Explorer 6, etc. have this feature). You can use this to your benefit, by having one shop in each tab, then hit 'refresh all' and scan through them for the valuable items. Many restockers use this method. You can also enhance your browser's page loading/refreshing speed by attaching add-ons such as AdBlockers (and for Firefox users, the Faster Fox add-on).
