WELCOME guest to this guide to Count Von Roo's Deadly Dice! Hopefully you will find the answer to your questions about this high-stakes game.
Well of course you should know who the Count is right?! Count Von Roo or Von Roo as he's commonly called, is a vampire Blumaroo who lives in an old castle on the north side of Roo Island. According to the Neopedia, he was born in 200 BN and was a wanderer before settling on Roo Island. Like all true vampires, he spends a lot of time sleeping in his stone coffin in the basement of his castle and is known to have a rather nasty temper and a bite that should be avoided! (There's even a random event involving Von Roo biting your active pet). Von Roo is also listed in the Gallery of Evil (hmm I wonder why??) where it talks even more about his appetite and gives the advice of keeping your door shut at night! TOP
Now if you've ever visited Von Roo, you've probably seen this many many times: ![]() Does this guy EVER wake up? He certainly does, but only for an hour everyday (except for October 31st). And that one hour he's awake he offers to let you play Deadly Dice. What is Deadly Dice? It's a dice game offered by Von Roo during the times he's awake (12:00am-1:00am NST, all day on Halloween.). And for some Neopians it can be a deadly game. It plays similar to Dice-A-Roo but the stakes are a little higher. Instead of playing for neopoints, you're gambling your active pet's LEVELS. *insert dadadadaduh music here* TOP |
The rules for Deadly Dice are pretty simple. First off, your active pet MUST be over LEVEL 1 to play. Otherwise you'll be rejected by Von Roo and you'll get this message: ![]() If you meet that requirement, you'll see this image: ![]() There are two options at the bottom. One is to accept the challenge Von Roo offers and roll the dice. The other is to head back to Roo Island. If you decide that your pet's level is worth the risk (despite their complaints about playing), you can get one of three possible outcomes: 1: You Win 2: You Lose 3: You and Von Roo tie OUTCOME #1: WINNING You win if your die's face value is higher than Von Roo's (your die is the white one). If it is, you'll get something like this: ![]() You will gain one level for your active pet and will not have the option to roll again. OUTCOME #2: LOSING You lose if your die's face value is lower than Von Roo's. If you lose you'll get: ![]() You lose one level on your active pet and you will not have the option to roll again. OUTCOME #3: TIEING You tie if your die's face value is the same as Von Roo's. If you tie, you'll get: ![]() This is where you have a chance to roll again. However, the stakes will be doubled so your pet can win or lose 2 levels. There have been cases where people have tied over and over again and in each case the stakes are doubled (2. 4, 8, 16 etc), which can cause you to win or lose a lot of levels. Please also NOTE that you can only place Deadly Dice ONCE A DAY. TOP
So why play Deadly Dice? Most Neopians play for one reason: Count Von Roo gives out a pretty awesome avatar: It's probably my personal favorite. So how do you get it? First, when you start the game, you pet MUST be at LEVEL 3 OR OVER to qualify for the avatar. Second, you must get the option to tie and you must roll again and win against Von Roo. When you do win you'll get this: ![]() And congrats! You now have the Deadly Dice Avatar! BUT THERE IS A CATCH... You can LOSE the avatar. *gasp* HOW?? You can continue to play Deadly Dice after you've won the avatar. However, if you tie with Von Roo, decide to roll again, and lose to him, he'll take the avatar as well. You'd get this message: ![]() Similar to when you got the avatar only it will tell you you lost it. NOTE: When you lose the avatar, you don't get Von Roo as a Battledome challenger. That's a random event. (See FAQ question). BUT if you don't want to lose the avatar, I recommend that you either don't play Deadly Dice at all, or be very very careful not to accidently roll again in a tie. You'd be surprised how often the latter happens. TOP
Here are questions that are commonly asked for Deadly Dice: Q: When is Von Roo awake? A: 12:00am-1:00am NST Q: Is there any other time Von Roo's awake? A: There is ONE exception to his sleeping schedule. He's awake all day on October 31st (Halloween). Q: Are we allowed to play Deadly Dice on a side account? A: Yes you are allowed. Here are two editorial links that deal with this question: Third Question and First question Q: What's the link to Deadly Dice? A: Here Q: How many times can I play Deadly Dice? A: Once a day. Q: Is there any pattern to Deadly Dice or is it random? A: It's completely random. Q: But I've heard that if you *insert theory here* you'll always win against Von Roo! A: I've heard the theories and seen people try them (including rolling on an odd time number, when the seconds are at 55, when your pet level is at a certain number etc) and trust me, the game is RANDOM. There's a lot of things in Neopia that are random. Deadly Dice is yet another one. Q: Can you only win the avatar once? A: You can win or lose it multiple times. Q: You said people lose the avatar a lot? A: It's shocking but yes it happens a lot. A lot of people either forget they have the avatar (especially if they got the avatar just to add another number to their collection) or they're just going for the levels. Q: I tied and won but I didn't get the avatar! Why? A: First check to see that your active pet is LEVEL 3 or above. Otherwise you may already have the avatar. You can check under your preferences on the Neoboards. Q: I've been playing Deadly Dice for months and still no avatar!? A: It can be a while before you get the avatar, especially since the game is random. It took me 3 months to get it on my main account, but only 2 tries on my side account :/ So just keep at it! And when you do get it, you might want to stop playing since it took you so long to get it! Q: How do I get Von Roo as a Battledome Challenger? A: You get him as a Battledome challenger as a random event when he bites your pet. Q: Is Deadly Dice a good way to earn levels? A: I personally wouldn't recommend it. Since the game is random, you may end up losing more levels than gaining them. I've lost 8 levels in one go before... Q: My pet is only Level 1! How do I raise my pet's level so I can play? A: You can train your pet at either the Mystery Island Training School or the Swashbuckling Academy. Sometimes Coltzan at Coltzan's Shrine gives out levels. There's also the Laboratory (If you have the map to the lab ray) and you can get levels through random events. Q: Can pets at Level 3 get the avatar or does your pet have to be over Level 3? A: Pets who start the game at Level 3 can get the avatar. Q: Is Deadly Dice a good way to decrease my pet's level? A: Well it's definitely a lot more effective than the lab ray! I'd say yes. Q: Why would people want to DECREASE their pet's level!? A: Usually it's either so they can transfer a pet to a different account (if they're underaged) or so that their training cost lowers. Q: I have to stay up really late to play Deadly Dice. :( A: I'm sorry about that :( There's not much you can do about that except stay up late. Either that or wait for Halloween. Q: Aren't you the one who puts up the link for Deadly Dice every night? A: Well there's other people too but I generally try to put up the link every night. TOP
