Updates

October 17 guild sweep
Linking back to Nite Time is now optional; half link-sweep thanks to Private Detective.

October 8 +6 guilds
Jenessa's Directory has closed, so there is one more affiliate spot open. Cleared most of my updates.

October 2 +2 affiliates
Now affiliated with Useful and Evaliel directories. Due to my inactivity, I've also requested a link sweep from Private Detective.

September 25 -2 affiliates
I'm tentatively looking for affiliates. I'll still be slow at replying, but still feel free to neomail me if you have an awesome site.

September 24 +7 guilds
The semi-hiatus still stands, but I'll be checking in at regular intervals to add guilds, and maybe do a sweep.

September 6 +3 guilds
This will probably be my last update for a while as I've just started school, but I'm ranked 3rd at iSite!

Featured Guild

The 24th Hunger Games stands out from all the other roleplays centered around this fandom. Considering its creative plot and its dedication, the 24th Humger Games is sure to become successful very soon.

Nite Time is on an indefinite mini-hiatus. I really need to focus on schoolwork, which means I really don't have the time to update this directory as often as I'd like to. I'll come online whenever I can, but I have no idea when or how frequent that will be. I'll still be adding guilds, and possibly updating, but reviews are closed and I won't be doing anything major with this site until things slow down. I apologize for any inconveniences.

Continue to home?
Space, the final frontier... You stumble blindly through a dense forest on some unknown planet, tripping on abnormally-colored roots and dodging low-hanging branches, glowing with otherworldly moss. Strange, alien sounds seem to follow you, silenced only by the war cry of your pursuer, who you can hear crashing through the undergrowth just steps behind you.

A tentacle-like vine snaps out at you, as if it were alive, and you start to fall. You aren't used to the increased gravity on this planet, so all escape seems possible once you hit the ground. Out of nowhere, a huge spaceship materializes in front of you, making your enemy stop in their tracks.

From the underbelly of the ship, a ramp slides out, and a small figure appears, silhouetted against the bright light from inside. "Welcome aboard the Nite Time, guest. You will never have to worry about searching for a guild again."

Hello, I'm Luna, the owner of the Nite Time Guild Directory. We have been around since June 2009, and our goal has always been the same, to provide you with the widest possible selection of guilds. I created this page not only for free advertising, but also as a reference for all the guildless souls out there. We also offer many guild-related extras, for those in a guild or not. Best wishes on finding your perfect guild!

Rules

If I tell you that your guild has been listed, adding my link-back button is optional, but greatly appreciated.

If your guild becomes/is currently private, then the guild homepage link will not suffice, because only members can see it. Please instead provide me with a link to whichever page you want potential members to see. If I cannot find it on my own, I will have to remove your guild.

Please fill out the form completely; if you have questions about anything, don't be afraid to ask. Be sure to check out the FAQ to see if your question is answered there.

The Form

Guilds Listed: 159
To send in an application, fill out the following form and send it to Luna by clicking on the envelope.

An Explanation;; (search Nite Time's guild jargon section for any terms you are unsure about)

Guild Name: I want your guild's full name here, as it appears on your userlookup, symbols and all; no nicknames. This is because the Neopets search engine needs the name word for word in order to come up with the correct guild; in case your provided link is broken.
Theme: I just need enough information here to place your guild in one of our current categories, as well as any other specifications you may have. If you'd like to be extra specific, do something like: Nite Time's Category here; other info here. An example would be: Humanoid Roleplay; dark gifted
Private/Public: Pretty self-explanatory. Three possible categories: Private, Public, or Semi-private.
Link: If your guild is private, do not link to the guild homepage. A Website, or Application page would be more useful. If your guild is public, but you may go private, a Website link would make it easier for me.
Literacy: Three possible answers here: Literate, Semi-literate, or None. Please do not specify if you allow smilies or if you are "relaxed literate."

    Sister Site

Deep Space Guilds run by Vio
A wonderfully organized directory with a great theme (Star Trek FTW!!). Commander Vio and I are old friends, and her directories have been my sisters since Nite Time started. If you don't find a guild you like here, I'm certain you'll find one at Deep Space Guilds.

The review will be done section-by-section. I will write through the perspective of a potential member, pointing out what stands out to me. My style has no score, and will focus only on the things that I think need to be improved.

    Guild Homepage
My first impression; this might include comments on your layout, organization, welcome message, colors, and possibly links to sites with resources I recommend for your guild. This section will not be included for private guilds.

    Website/Other Page
Here, I will go through an additional page your guild has to offer, most likely the Website. I will comment on the content, layout, spelling and grammar, and anything else I feel needs to be addressed.

    Final Comments
Any praise for your guild will go here, as well as a summary of your review and what I feel you need to focus on most to improve.

    The Reviews

Note: In my experience, guilds tend to be short-lived, or go under multiple revamps in very short periods of time. To keep Nite Time less cluttered, and to avoid storing unnecessary advice that no longer applies to a guild, I do not have a portfolio for my reviews. I suggest saving your review somewhere if you plan on re-reading it, I apologize in advance for any inconvenience!

    Guild Homepage
I've been stalking the HPGC and 93 recently, so my first impressions are a bit muddled, but the new layout certainly helps. I haven't gotten my Pottermore email yet, but I can kind of tell by the style of the drawings (not to mention the disclaimer) it's based off of Pottermore. The image you've chosen is very detailed, which means you shouldn't have to add a bunch of textures to make it appealing to the eye. The little ink splatter and the very subtle light texture I see at the top right is just perfect.

The first problem I see is the text. After reading a bit, I notice that the text you've chosen to incorporate into the image is from a Hogwarts acceptance letter. That's fitting enough, considering the Pottermore theme. My question is, why the sentence about the brooms is the biggest and right above your guild's name? It's very distracting, for one, being so close to the name, and doesn't strike me as the most important piece of text you could have chosen. A more suitable substitute could be "We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

The things that bother me about all the scattered text are the color, the opacity, and the font. Why choose the green? It looks very out of place among all the warmer browns and oranges. The same goes for your main text in the welcome textbox. The Lunch Box has some wonderful color palettes that I think would be better replacement colors for the text. The Haunted Woods, Tyrannia, and Autumn templates especially.

Because your layout is very image-heavy, you really need to be careful about overwhelming a visitor. A good way to avoid this is by using brushes; text or basic images instead of textures. Some examples can be found at Nienke's Resources. It seems as though you've tried to creative your own kind of brushes, but the variety of different fonts you've used takes away from the "Pottermore" atmosphere the layout creates, and makes everything just look a bit messy.

I suggest using a more script-like font, such as Binetruy Script or Aerofoil, both found on Dafont. The green doesn't help with their distracting qualities, but something you can do to help that is simply lower the opacity. A site that utilizes brushes well is Buttoness. They keep a consistent, script-like font throughout, and the text on the picture itself has very low opacity, so it doesn't take away from the content or image itself.

    Website
When I see your website, the first thing that sticks out to me is the Neopets toolbar, just visible right above the pictures of Lily and Snape. You can easily remove this toolbar by inserting this code into your style sheet:

Because your layout does include tables, you'll have to insert the following code when you use them if you decide to get rid of the Neopets header:

More information about these hide codes can be found here, and more information about tables can be found here. You can always neomail me for clarification on the above information as well.

Your main headers are rather large and overpowering, but they are also very plain. I suggest changing the color of the text slightly, making the font size smaller, and adding a small border below it. My suggested replacement for your h1 code is below:

I love how you've incorporated humor into your welcome message, as well as how you've given your guild something unique that helps it stand out from all the other ones these days; you focus on the books. In your introduction, it seems you've bolded and italicized random words. While this does make your introduction more colorful, it sounds funny when I read it in my head. I suggest you bold or italicize the emphasized words in each sentence, instead of the names as well.

On the topic of the books, I am guessing this makes it harder for you all to find images to use as bases for a layout, as the pictures not from the movies are mostly fanart. This brings me to another topic; credit. If you drew those images of Snape and Lily yourself, then say so in the credits. If it was drawn by someone on deviantArt, then put their dA username in the credits. I know you aren't claiming that those images are yours, but you really should credit the ones who took the time to draw the fanart you're using in your layout.

When I go to your rules page, the age limit really jumps out at me. I hadn't noticed any mention of an age limit before, so it came as kind of a surprise. Perhaps you should mention your age limit sometime before your rules section, so someone under 16 doesn't join by accident because they didn't read the rules. This may happen even more often than you'd think, because you've put the links to the application and the first years guide before the rules page.

Your activity level requirements also seem kind of harsh. The sorting makes sense, but posting more than ten things two days after you've joined sounds like an invitation for spam messages. If you're that serious about your members staying active, you could change that sentence to something just as imposing, but less specific, such as: "We expect you to be an active participant in 93 from the moment you join."

As a side note, your "Pottermore" link is broken. All the other links look fine.

    Final Comments
93 Diagon Alley is a nice refreshing change from all the movie-based images you see on Harry Potter layouts these days. You've given your guild a way to stand out, which makes it stick in the minds of potential members even more. I love your casual tone in your messages as well, and the Starkid quotes are perfectly scattered to be funny to those who've seen their plays, and still make sense to those who haven't.

While your images and layouts aren't the most elaborate or appealing I've seen, they're very functional, and your abundant and well-established content make up for it. I see great things in 93's future, keep up the good work!
    Best wishes,
    Luna

    About Luna

If you didn't know already, my name is Luna, and I am female. I live on the East Coast, which puts me three hours ahead of NST. I am a dancer, actress, horseback rider, writer, and novice coder and singer. My obsessions shift very easily.

When I'm not on Neopets, I'm probably at school or at rehearsal for a school play. Occasionally I'll have a life and go to dance, riding lessons, and, if I really have a lot of spare time, I'll write fanfiction.

When I am on Neopets, I'm either working on this directory, or... well, I guess that's it. I do love roleplaying my pets, and occasionally animals or fantasy people. I am still learning how to use PSE, and while I can code blog layouts, that's about as far as my CSS skills go.

I was inspired to create Nite Time when I got tired of having to type out all my advertisements for my guilds on all my accounts. Then, I remembered how difficult it can be to go guild hunting; sometimes the members of your dream guilds aren't on Neopets when you are, and sometimes the guild boards are just so slow. So, I decided to make a directory for guilds. My Gnorbu, nite_time, had an open petpage, so I decided to name the directory after the host.

    FAQ

    Will you list my guild?
I'd love to! I list all types of guilds; all you have to do is follow Neopets' rules. Go to the application page to send in your guild.

    Can you review my guild?
I do offer mini-guild reviews here at Nite Time to analyze a guild's first impression. Be sure to read the rules, and request only when requests are open!

Why don't you mark guilds you would recommend?
Having lots of experience in guilds myself, I know not to judge a guild by its graphics or layouts, but I still do. I'm also more partial to roleplaying guilds than Neo-Related ones, so while a guild may appeal to me, it may not appeal to someone older who wants a more chat-based guild. In short, I'm biased and I know it. If you want my recommendations, check out the guild genre quiz; I give one recommended guild in each category underneath the results.

Do you make your own layouts?
Most of the time, no. And when I do, they don't stay up for long. Photoshop is cool, but it really annoys me when something doesn't work, and I don't know a lot about it.

Can you make me a guild layout?
Most likely no. My schedule is busy enough as it is. But if you want to shoot me a neomail and ask, go for it. I can really only code blog layouts, nothing fancy, and I'm much better with fantasy themes.

    Will you join/co-own my guild?
I've been in so many guilds on Neopets, but right now I really just want to focus on my schoolwork, and this directory. I've considered joining a guild just over the summer, or just during a break, but I just don't have the time right now.

I just started a guild directory, want to be affiliates?
I will normally come to you if I want to be affiliated with your site, solely for the reason that so many guild directories are springing up lately, then just closing down. If I reject you, don't take it personally.

Your question not answered here? Send me a neomail!

    Reviewing Credentials

    Strengths
I've been in a vast number of many different guilds of many different themes all across the board. I've also owned and co-owned quite a number of those.
I visit the public guild boards regularly, so I'm well accustomed and up-to-date on the drama, current gossip sites, and new guilds.
I have a pretty good knowledge of HTML and CSS, so I can fix simple coding issues your guild may have. I also have PSE, so I can recolor backgrounds and take colors from an image if need be.
I know of many guides, tutorials, and resource sites that I would be more than happy to recommend to someone in need of advice that I don't have much experience with.

    Weaknesses
My coding skills aren't the best, so there's no guarantee I can offer the perfect fix. I do, however, know CSS guides and layout request sites, if I think they may help your situation.
My experience in guilds is rather limited in the Neo-Related and themeless guild departments; I have much more knowledge of roleplay guilds.
While I have read the Warriors series, the Harry Potter series, and the Hunger Games, I don't have much knowledge of any other fandom guilds trending at the moment. The same goes for most video gaming guilds and fashion-themed guilds; I do have some knowledge of Asian culture (mainly music), but not much.

    7. Which of the following words would someone use to describe you?

    d) Random. Or cheese.

If you chose mostly As, you should join an avatar or Neo-Related guild. You are a very successful Neopian, and you have all the reason to be very proud of your accomplishments. Tou need an environment where everyone else is just as addicted *ahem* determined as you are.
Your recommended guild is The Neo Project

If you chose mostly Bs, you should join an artistic guild. You have great talent in the world of the arts, which is a skill in high demand in the Neopian community. Such guilds are rather elite societies perfect for people of such creative upbringing as yourself.
    Your recommended guild is Reverie

If you chose mostly Cs, you should join a humanoid or animal roleplay guild. You enjoy writing and making up characters, and maybe you want an escape from your own life. By practicing with different genres and literacy, your skills will continue to develop.
    Your recommended guild is Xohlia

If you chose mostly Ds, you should join a themeless or Miscellaneous guild. You are as random as life, and just a little bit evil. You make up the largest percentage of Neopians. You need a guild just as distracted and... oh, look, someone dropped their cookie! *noms* What was I talking about again?
Your recommended guild is The Master Plan

    What's in a Name?

You have the most amazing idea for a guild, a bunch of prejoiners and a few other ownies who are just as excited as you are. But wait! What are you going to name your superawesome amazing guild?

You may say, Who's going to look at the name of the guild anyway? Does it matter? The short answer to this is yes.

The long answer is what I am going to attempt to provide you with in this section. First, you need to consider the name itself. This is a step-by-step process of finding out what kind of name you want. A Neo-Related guild isn't going to have the same name as a fantasy roleplaying guild.

This is where the process branches off. If you have a themeless of Neo-Related guild, it's a much more detailed process, and you have all the creative license you want. For roleplaying guilds, the guidelines are more strict, but the names can be easier to come up with.

    Themeless Guilds

So, think about what you want your name to convey. Should it be mysterious, elegant, forbidding, welcoming, or just silly?

A good guideline here is to take something simple-sounding, like a concept or an object. Usually one word is good enough; make sure it's easy to remember, and sparks interest in a potential member.

Let's take Constellation as an example. This could be used for a space sub-theme, and it's pretty neutral-sounding.

The whole thing is pretty much up to you. The following are some ideas that you're welcome to use. Just remember to let me know if you do, so I can take the name off the list.

    Abnormal
    Ageless
    Agenda
    Antagonist
    Anticipation
    Ammorphic
    Apostrophe

    Themed Guilds

You all have it much easier. If you have an art guild, name it something to do with art, like Pallet. If you have a fashion guild, your best bet would be something in French, like Allure. This gives potential members an idea of what your guild's theme is.

For roleplaying guilds, there's a new trend going on to name your guild something in Latin, like Tyrannus Ruina. While this could be a great idea for something catchy, but if you make it too long the name could be hard to memorize. Latin-sounding names also tend to spark curiosity in potential members.

You could also do it the old-fashioned way, and use a catchphrase from your series. Using Harry Potter as an example, most guilds have names based on spells, like Alohomora, or maybe even the name of a shop, like Ollivander's. Again, the reason for this is to give potential members an idea of what the guild's theme is. It could also be a great opportunity for a sub-theme, to make your guild stand out.

The following are some ideas that you're welcome to use. Just remember to let me know if you do, so I can take the name off the list.

    Anfractus Sequor (Winding Trail)
    Beneath the Lights
    Code Red (any color/#)
    Conspiracy
    Decrypted
    Dissuo Veritas (Undo Reality)
    El Monte (The Mountains)
Ends de Tempore (Ends of Time)
    Everything Else
    Every Revolution
    Excludi Libero (Barred Freedom)
    Fracta Celatum (Broken Promise)
    (The) Garden of Time
    Heartstring
    Hieroglyphics

    Dos-and-Donts

Once you have your superawesomeamazing name, here are a few simple rules to typing it out.

Do make the name less than 15 characters, or relatively short
So potential members can remember the name easily
Do make the name original, but not too crazy
To make the name memorable, but not enough to scare people away
Do get the other owners/members' approval!
If your other owners don't agree, it could cause an argument. Also, tell the members the guild's name so they can start making graphics and layouts. You can always change the name later on, but you'll have to make new graphics.

    Avoid unnecessary characters like ^, ~, ;, !, etc.
If a potential member tries to search your guild on the Neopets search engine, they'll have to remember all those symbols in order for your guild to show up
Don't capitalize and uncapitalize letters lIkE THiS
Same as above; plus it just makes your guild look unprofessional
Stay away from adding in words like "fun", "guild", "Neopets", etc.
This goes with making your name memorable; if it sounds cheesy, a potential member is not likely to remember it

    A Possible Roadblock

Now, you have the best name ever. All that's left to do is type it in and... WHAT?!? All that work and your genius name is taken?

In this case, you have two options. The first is to find a different name altogether. The second is to add simple spaces to your genius name.

There is definitely some controversy about this. If you add spaces either in front or after your name, it barely shows up on your userlookup, or the actual guild itself. The drawback is, if someone searches for your guild on the Neopets search engine, it won't come up, because of the spaces. If you're planning on making your guild private, then this won't be a problem because private guilds can't be searched.

If you want to add a symbol to the end of your name, I suggest either a period (.) or possibly a trademark (™), to avoid looking obnoxious. Some people do find this makes your guild name look more professional, and some others may scoff and turn away because of it.
