Hello and welcome to Karma, a competition site run by me, Esme. Karma is the belief that if you do good things from which you do not benefit, good things will happen to you in return, and if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you. So what are you waiting for? Go out, be yourself, and maybe some good karma will come your way.
Karma opened on February 11th, 2012, which means that the site is 14 months old.

Competitions

At Karma, there is a Site of the Month (SOTM), Button of the Month (BOTM), Icon of the Month (IOTM), Banner of the Month (BAOTM), Signature of the Month (SIOTM), Customization of the Month (COTM), Art of the Month (AOTM), Layout of the Month (LOTM), and Glitter of the Month (GOTM) competitions. This is a people's vote competition site. I have no input to who wins, as long as you follow my rules and aren't disqualified. All that I hope is that you have fun and enjoy the site!

Please note: Karma's competitions are purely for fun and, apart from graphics, prizes are not awarded.

Rules

Yes, you have to read the rules. They may be boring, but they're also important. Don't worry, I don't think this will take long. Just give 'em a thorough read through, and you'll be fine.

Entering Rules

You do not need a site to enter graphic competitions, but I do need somewhere to pick it up.

You may not force people to vote for you. You may ask people to vote for the site/graphic that they think is best.

Your graphic must be your own work. That means no bases from a resource site. You may have layouts, buttons etc. from other sites for your site, however.

You may not enter the competitions if you placed first in the last competition. You may enter if you simply participated, though.

You may enter in as many competitions as you desire, and you may enter the SOTM with multiple sites.

All entries must follow all the rules of neopets. That means no profanity, rudeness, etc. Where it says pencil on the form, put "le crayon" so I know that you have read the rules.

While entered in the SOTM, you must link back to Karma.

When entering the SOTM, your site must have added some new content in the past month. For example, a premade layout site must have added one new layout in the past month.

When entering the COTM, you may either dress up your pet with wearables you own, or use an offsite program to customize a pet.

Voting Rules

You may vote for up to two sites in the SOTM and one graphic in all other competitions.

Only vote for the graphic/site that you think is best. Do not be pressured into voting for a certain thing.

Voting lasts for a week, or until a tie is broken. Where it says pen on the form, put "le stylo" so that I know that you have read the rules.

Competitors may vote, and they may vote for themselves if they so desire.

SOTM SOTM means Site of the Month. Competitors enter any type of site. There are no restrictions as long as your site is on Neopets and has no stolen content.

BOTM BOTM means Button of the Month. Competitors will make buttons and submit them. An image will be given, but animations, text and anything else are up to the competitors.
Entering: 3/5 entrants

IOTM IOTM means icon of the month. Competitors will make icons and submit them. An image will be given, but text, textures and anything else are up to the competitors.
Entering: 0/5 entrants

BAOTM BAOTM means Banner of the Month. Competitors will make banners and submit them. An image will be given, but text, effects and anything else are up to the competitor.
Entering: 2/5 entrants

SIOTM SIOTM means Signature of the Month, as in a neoboard signature. Competitors will make original signatures, take screenshots of them and submit those. A theme will be given, but you are free to experiment with fonts, symbols, text, and anything else however you like. There is a NB pen and a non-NB pen category.

COTM COTM means Customization of the Month. Competitors will dress up their neopets and submit an image of them. A theme will be given, but pet and wearables are up to the competitors. Just like in the Customization Spotlight, there are both NC and NP categories.

AOTM AOTM means art of the month. Competitors will make a piece of art and submit it. What to draw will be given, but details, medium and anything else are up to the competitors.

LOTM LOTM means Layout of the Month. Competitors will make a layout, put the layout up, and submit the link. A theme and type of layout (petpage, userlookup etc.) will be given, but everything else is up to the competitors.

GOTM GOTM means Glitter of the Month. Competitors will make a glittery image. A vague outline of what to glitter (e.g. any colour of Bori) will be given, but where you glitter, the speed of the glitter, and everything else is up to you.

Affiliates and Listers

I have a couple of policies involving affiliates and listers, both of which I find important. You can read them both below.

Removal Policy

If I have removed you as an affiliate, there is a reason. I generally remove sites that have not been updated for three or more weeks, unless I know that they normally do monthly updates. I also remove affiliates who are not linking back to Karma. The latter is also true for directories, but not the former. There are lots of great directories that are now closed, but are still popular and visited regularly.

Addition Policy

It does not matter if your directory is old or new, I would like to be listed! You can drop me a neomail, or find one of my boards, and just ask if I would like to be listed. I am also willing to fill out any forms that there may be. The same goes for affiliates. I will affiliate Karma with any type of site, as long as it has quality content. Please do not be afraid to ask! I try to be as welcoming as I can to people with all types of sites. As a last note, I always link back to directories.

These policies don't fit in any other categories, but they're still important.

Review Policy

I am not the type of person who requests a bunch of reviews all at once. I have only requested five reviews during my time managing Karma (one review site was closed afterwards). While I do love getting opinions on Karma, I really don't think it's necessary to request multiple reviews at once. When it has been a long time since my last review, I may request one or even two. However, I know that reviews are a lot of work, and I might feel just a tad offended if someone requested another review at the same time or almost directly after mine if I were to review a site. But, as I mentioned above, I do love getting opinions, so if you have one, post it on a board or neomail it to me! Just please don't ask me on a board or through a neomail whether or not I would like to be reviewed at your site. If I want a review, I will request it!

Ranking Policy

There are a number of reasons why I rank some sites rather than others. One is how often they are updated. You can bet your britches that I'll rank a decent-quality request site updated almost daily higher than a high-quality request site updated hardly ever. Another is professionalism. Do you insult the intelligence of your visitors when they don't read your rules, or do you kindly remind them to read them? Finally, there is the obvious quality of the site.

I have used all of these graphics for a time. They are retired due to lack of use, or if they are no longer visually pleasing to me. If the graphic has a textarea beneath it, you may still use it if you so wish! If not, please refrain from using the graphic.

The Joy of Giving

THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED
Many families celebrate holidays around this season. Most families who do celebrate have traditions that revolve around these holidays. Traditions can be heartwarming, familiar, or downright wacky.
But this event isn't about that.
No, this event is here to connect the site community. The goal of this event is to connect as many people as possible, simply through a love of giving. Give a gift, and make someone smile. Maybe it'll have you smiling, too.

Instructions

This is a fairly simple event. To participate, simply neomail me the form to the right. In it, include up to five graphics or other things that you would like to receive for your site. I will then create a page anchored to this one that contains your wishlist. Site owners who wish to give will then browse the wishlists, making graphics etc. for a few people they select. They will then neomail both this person and me. I will cross the wish that the site owner granted off the list. Once the graphic is complete, the site owner who granted the wish will neomail me again, and I will put the graphic on the recipient's wishlist page for pickup.
Please note that no neopoints or items will be given out, as that is against the rules of Neopets.

The Spotlight, a SOTM site created by Remy, is Karma's sister site. Though this site is relatively new, it is a neat, fun, and overall wonderful site. If you're looking for another SOTM to enter, I would highly recommend The Spotlight!
