Love at first sight, or not.
Mocha brushed her fur, for the third time today. She was nervous, excited too, but nervous. Today was the day she would finally meet her king! She took one last look in the mirror, adjusted her dress, and headed out to the carriage that would bring her to her new home. Mocha was headed to Monikam palace, where her new king Plushsavoir would be waiting. The faeries had told her he was a strong, and brave king. All the way to the palace, she tried to imagine what he might look like.
The carriage came to a hault, and the palace was in full view. It was absolutely beautiful! Mocha slowly made her way to the front gate. Her knees shook violently, threatening to give out below her. Suddenly, the gates began to open, and a friendly face greeted her.
Hello there! My name is Karimbu. I'm the head guard here at the palace. You must be the new queen, Mochacchino, right? Mocha nodded. She wanted to be friendly, but her voice surely would have given away how nervous she was. Karimbu bowed, and she smiled at him sweetly. Karimbu motioned toward the front door. Come, I'll walk you to the throne room. The king is waiting to meet you. Karimbu grinned at her. Don't worry Mrs. Mocha, King plush is nervous too. Mocha grinned. She was definitely nervous, but she hadn't realized it was so obvious.
Karimbu brought her to the throne room door, and excused himself. Mocha took one last deep breath, before pushing the door open. This was it. She peered into the room. Stained glass windows showered the room with colored light. It was stunning. Two thrones sat in the middle of the room. Both empty. Confused, Mocha turned to leave. Suddenly, someone pounced at her from behind a curtain. They knocked her to the ground, and laughed. Mocha looked up, terrified. Playful eyes, stared back at her. Pretty good tackle huh? You didn't even see me coming! Plushsavoir grinned from ear to ear. For the first time since arriving at the palace, mocha spoke. Do you have ANY idea who I am? I'm the new queen! You just knocked the new queen right off her feet! I'm here to meet the king. Do you know where he is? Plushsavoir smiled. You're looking at him! You can call me Plush. You must be Mocha? Mocha stared at him in disbelief. You've got to be kidding me!
Plush scrunched up his face playfully.
Lighten up Mocha, frowning like that will give you wrinkles!
Plush laughed as Mocha sighed and stormed out of the palace to the gardens. Mocha was furious. This was definitely not the brave and strong king that the faeries had promised. Plushsavoir was nothing more than an overgrown cub!
Mocha wandered the gardens for what felt like forever. Eventually, she came across a small enclosure. There were 2 adorable baby ixis inside. She was watching them play, when a voice rang out. Hi! You must be the new queen, Mocha! The name's Farhmer. He reached out to shake her paw. He motioned toward the ixis. I was told you liked them? These two are brand new, just for you. I've named the little one Onnir_ The other doesn't have a name yet. Any ideas? Mocha stared at the tiny, brightly colored ixi. I think we should call her Raedience. Farhmer smiled. Raedience, that is Perfect! The king will love it. Mocha sighed. While watching the ixis play, she'd nearly forgotten about the king. Don't even get me started about the king! Is he always such a...silly furball? Mocha kicked at the dirt, holding back tears. Finally Farhmer spoke.
That there king is a playful fellow. I am sure he meant no harm. Sir plush can be a tad unconventional at times. He is harmless though, and really a kind fellow. The faeries always choose royal pairs for a reason Mrs. Mocha. Some day, I'm sure you will love him. Mocha sighed, she didn't think so.
Plush sighed. He couldn't believe his new queen had just stormed out on him. He was only trying to play! He had a feeling Mocha was not going to be much fun. Plush made his way down the hall, and into the kitchen. Karimbu was standing there. Hello sir, how did the meeting go? Still nervous? Plush groaned. She hates me Karimbu. I wanted to show her how much fun we could have. I didn't know she would be so uptight. This queen is mean Karimbu. Does she really have to stay?
Karimbu laughed. The faeries sent her to help you rule the kingdom Plush. Whether you like it or not, she is here to stay. She seemed quite sweet when I spoke to her. I think in time, the two of you will learn to love each other. Plush groaned, he definitely didn't think so.
Mocha woke up early to the sound of weewoos singing outside. She'd only been at the palace for a few days, and she was excited to explore more of the palace gardens. With any luck, her new king, Plush, would still be asleep. She crept down the hall, careful to avoid the squeaky floor board she'd discovered the day before. If she could just sneak out the back door, she wouldn't have to face the king until breakfast. Hopefully he would think she was still asleep.
Mocha opened the back door quietly, and came face to face with Plush. You're up early Mocha. Sneaking out the back door huh? You can't avoid me forever you know. Plush grinned. He knew Mocha wasn't terribly fond of him. He couldn't help but poke some fun at her. Mocha smiled back. I'm going to do some big kid stuff Plush, you wouldn't understand it. Plush laughed. So, you do have a sense of humor! I was just heading over to the pond to do some fishing, you want to come? Maybe we could try this introductions thing again? Mocha smiled, maybe he wasn't as bad as she thought. She really wanted to see her ixis though. Maybe after breakfast? I promised Farhmer I would help with the ixis today. Plush chuckled. You do realize you're the queen, right? Farhmer is paid well to look after the livestock. He'll take care of em. Mocha sighed. That probably did sound ridiculous. I really do like the ixis Plush, I want to see them. I'll fish with you though, after breakfast. Plush grinned and ran off toward the pond. He yelled over his shoulder. I'm going to hold you to that Mocha! See you at breakfast!
Mocha walked over to where the ixi enclosure was. The gate was open, and the ixis were gone. Muddy hoof prints led her in the right direction. She found them in the meadow, playing with Farhmer. She smiled as she watched from a distance. Finally, some time alone to think. She had barely lied down in the grass, when something hit the back of her head. She quickly picked up the tiny stone, and threw it into the woods behind her. It had to be Plush. As she stood up to go find him, another stone hit her back. Then another, and another. Mocha ducked under a tree and watched as hundreds of tiny stones fell from the sky. She shook her head, she must still be asleep!
Mocha could see Farhmer struggling to lead the smaller ixi to the enclosure. She ran toward Raedience. She had to get her to safety. She was only feet away, when something strange fell in the spot where Raedience was standing. It was blue. A blue dust that shimmered and glowed, much like the water on a sunny day. It was very pretty. When the dust cleared, Mocha was stunned. Her little ixi was still in the same spot, but it was...different. Raedience had turned into some sort of aquatic type creature. She had gills, and fins. As mocha stared in disbelief, she came to the realization that the ixi couldn't breathe. She ran to Raedience, and scooped her up.
Mocha took off on a mad run toward the pond. Stones continued to fall, but she didn't care. She tossed the ixi into the water, hoping it might be able to breathe there. It did look like a fish after all. She crouched down near the water, trying to peer in. She couldn't see a thing. Suddenly she was shoved hard in the other direction. When she looked up, there was another strange cloud. This time it was purple, and black, swirling in a way that made her uneasy. It was falling into the pond, right where she had been standing. She stood staring at the water, shocked and confused. Plush snapped her out of her daze. Let's go Mocha, Now! Get to the palace! She wasn't going to argue. Mocha ran as fast as she ever had toward the palace doors.
Karimbu greeted them at the front door. Sir Plush, Mrs. Mocha, you're alright! Thank goodness!
Mocha wasn't feeling nearly as relieved.
What in the world is going on out there Plush? Plush looked out at his gardens with eyes wide. There was rubble everywhere. The trees and the plants looked different. Clouds of strange coloured dust hovered over the rubble. Honestly Mocha, I have no idea. Karimbu, is everyone alright? Karimbu nodded and led them to the vault, where everyone was safe.
Everyone was afraid, and confused. Karimbu was the first to speak.
Call me crazy Sir Plush, but I think I know what this is. This...stuff, It's falling from above us. The only thing above us is Faerieland. I think Faerieland, and all of its magic is falling on our kingdom. Karimbu spoke calmly, but the look on his face was clearly panic. Plush thought this over for a minute, Karimbu was right. There was definitely some sort of magic at play here. He quickly glanced through the room, looking for the palace wizard. Where is Ryuu? We're going to need his help. The room fell silent, nobody looked up. Finally Karimbu answered. He's in the throne room sir, but he isn't well. He's been mumbling to himself, rocking in the corner like a madman. He's been going on and on about falling magic, and spells, and something called an Xandra. It's nearly impossible to make out what he's saying, but his rambling did help me to figure out what was happening. Plush struggled to keep calm. Ryuu was their only hope. Nobody else at the palace knew anything about...wait. Lucieni! Where is Lucieni? We may not have Ryuu, but we do have his apprentice!
Lucieni stepped forward, clearly nervous. His voice was shaking. Plush, sir, I have no idea how to fix this. I am only an apprentice, and a beginner at that! I have nowhere near the magic needed to put Faerieland back into the sky! I don't think all the faeries combined have that much power. Plush sighed. He had a feeling it wouldn't be that simple. Alright, so we can't fix Faerieland. Can we fix our kingdom? Or the palace gardens? Lucieni scrunched his face I'm afraid cleaning faerie magic isn't nearly as simple as mopping it up. I can clear the clouds of faerie dust. The plants and trees however, are going to be a problem. I haven't studied plant magic sir. I have a friend though, Roezzi. She lives in a near by kingdom. She may be able to help if you can bring her to the palace. She knows everything there is to know about plant life. Unfortunately her magic is about equal to mine, she's an apprentice, like myself. Together we may be able to sort this out, but it's going to take some time. Plush nodded. Karimbu, please find Roezzi, and be careful! Nobody else is to step outside until they return.
