POTIONS HELP

Ok, let's clear up a few things:

1. property value = the current value for your relevant property, in each ingredient

example:

Relevant property: Conjuring Target value: +42 +/- 5

This means that the property value should be somewhere between (42-5) and (42+5) in order to get the potion right. So,in this case, you should get a property value between 37 and 47.

In more mathematical terms:

If you have:

Target value: +a +/- b

then you must get a value between (a-b) and (a+b). OTHERWISE THE POTION WON'T WORK!!!

2. How to figure out the mass and property value when you have more than one ingredient:

It's easy to split the total mass between the ingredients, but always double-check before going further!

example:

Composite #2:

Quantity: 25 grams

Relevant property: Enchantment

Target value: +89 +/- 5

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 10 grams of any one basic ingredient.

Ok... notice the last comment... the one about not having more than 10 grams of each ingredient you use. Disobey Sophie's rule and... guess what... THE POTION WON'T WORK!!!

Now, you have to get 25 grams from at least 3 ingredients. You can have four if you like! For instance, you can have 10 g of Bumroot, 10 grams of Leafy Slorgblossom and 5 g of Sharpgrass.

10+10+5=25

other choices:

7+8+10=25

8+8+9=25

7+9+9=25

if you use 4 ingredients:

10+10+2+3=25

8+8+4+9=25

and so on...you get the picture!!

Now for the complicated part- knowing what the final property value for your composite will be!

You need to average the property values, considering the mass of each ingredient.

example:

bumroot=42 and you have 10 g of bumroot

baggus pulp=15 and you have 5 g of baggus pulp

sharpgrass=-6 and you have 10 g of sharpgrass

property value= (42*10+15*5+(-6)*10)/25 = 17.4

So, you have to multiply the property value for each ingredient by its mass, and then add them all together. This sum you have to divide by the total mass of your ingredients... Voila! Now check if you are in the range that Sophie wanted! If you're not, keep medling with the values, burning, soaking and so on until that formula gives you the right result!

Pay attention if you have 4 or more ingredients, because my example is just for 3 ingredients!

cool tip: if you took equal quantities from each ingredient (like for the third potion, when you get 3 grams of each) then simply add all the property values and divide that sum by the number of ingredients(and not their total mass)! yup, no multiplying here! the formula is still ok, but i'm a lazy person! (big grin)

3. combining the ingredients

Now you have the correct ingredients and teh right values- you just have to combine them! This is in professer_boo's guide as well but not many people read it,for some odd reason! I didn't at first...:

-on one of your ingredients click "create new composite

-a bowl of colorful stuff appears...click on it!

-does it have a little red arrow under it after you clicked? ok! no? click until it does!

-now click "combine" on another ingredient you wish to add

-repeat for other ingredients if necessary

4. ONLY THROW THE COMPOSITES IN WHEN YOU HAVE ALL OF THEM!!! NOT ONE AT A TIME!!

Well I think this is it! Professer_boo and the_cenial_one will explain the rest!

I thank both of them and all the OLDPD members that always help me with plot steps!
