complaints and more

Before I continue, I want to say that a lot (not all, but a lot) of users are angry at TNT and snarkie for not giving hints toward the avatar. It's a secret avatar. It has to be unlocked. Deal with it. If we stopped focusing on who said what when, we'd focus on the aspect of getting the actual avatar. The only thing TNT has remotely given us is that it's not related to the source code. Well, duh. If you stick the theory that it has something to do with Chef Bonju at Culinary Concoctions in Shenkuu, you wouldn't be worried about trying to find the answer in the source code. Someone would have gotten it by now if it was in the source code. There's my rant. Now onto what actually matters...

the theory

That's from August 8, 2006's news on Blumaroo Day. Notice how the avatar obviously is taken from the Culinary Concoctions page.

See?

And the background is the same color as the liquid in his magical cooking vessel, which I will refer to as MCV from this point on.

Now onto a recap of some potential clues, provided with some wonderful graphics from the comic located here. For such a short story, it sure mentioned food a lot. ;) Maybe the avatar has nothing to do with the food in the plot, but since we have nothing else to learn about Bonju by, this will have to do. We learn about his food, we learn about him, we can possibly solve the avatar.

Chapter 1:

Notice the food...

Again, notice the food.. Is that fish and rice? Note that anchovies have the same bright blue color as the food in the panel.

Is that spaghetti? :o

Yep, everyone looks pleased. For now.

Notice the part about the supplies going away.

Chapter 2:

Again, notice the food..

Maybe battledome items should be used in the MCV?

Chapter 3 (and probably one of the most important ones, as told by Chef Bonju himself):

Notice the food on the table. Looks like some sort of sauces.

Chef Bonju = very proud

I wonder what the pink kougra is holding in her hand...

Note the use of glorious.

Note the use of extra-clean. Chef Bonju = cleaning addict. :o

Now's the perfect time for an interlude..

Bonju Stamp's description says: Bonju is also very talented at cleaning. No way, you don't say. ;)

Something to carve with"? So, he can carve things. Maybe?

Chapter 4:

Liquid that they're drinking looks almost like the one in the MCV.

Anchovy Casserole?

Chapter 5:

More food.. o_O

From keeping drowsy? Hearty? ??

Note the mention of roots and herbs. Could they be eating that as well?

Chapter 6 (what really happened):

Again, the mention of glorious.

A crate with food in it! Looks like apples, maybe?

Bonju has a short fuse, that's for sure.

Okay, that's all from the plot comic.

The Culinary Concoctions page says this:
Hmmm. You seem to recall something about a magical cooking po...
Referring to the Cooking Pot on Mystery Island.

Now if any of you are familiar with that Cooking Pot, you'll know that crazy combinations of two or three items give you a completely different item sometimes. Let's see some examples..

Asparagus can be made by taking Magic Potion plus Sunflower Seeds. Never expected that, did you?

Hot Chocolate can be made by taking Hot Soup plus Chocolate Milkshake. Soup, now you have to admit that's pretty weird.

BBQ Porkwich can be made by taking Bread plus Fungus Pizza.

And no, taking any of these things and trying them in the MCV does not work. The MCV does not equal the Cooking Pot like that.

If the avatar is obtained through the MCV, specific items are needed. Just like for the Cooking Pot. If this is assumed, then we can safely say that we cannot use any items released after the chef bonju avatar.

Thanks to the neoitems database, I can say that items past page 392 (set to id # and all items) should not work.

I checked the old news pages to see official item release dates though for the following items: Deep Fried Vegetables, Fried Potato Balls, Sand Squash, Sand Grapes, Jelly Onion_ Jelly Peach, Wondrous Weaponry items, (!!!! important to note) Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Negg Noodles, Ice Cream Dumplings, Fruit and Vegetable Hand Roll, Chocolate Soup, Chocolate Spaghetti, Chocolate Apple, Chocolate Turkey, Fruit Taffy, Dark Tea, Lavender Mushroom Tea, Poogle Sushi, faerie apples, nut trail mixes, Sketch Eggs, peanut butter foods, Ant Stew, butterscotch / cherry / marshmallow / coffee milkshakes, Eyrie Sushi, Eyrie Gumbo, gummy dices, Primordial Stew, Gravel Cereal, Cheery Tomato Soup Bowl, Split Pea Soup Bowl, Corn Chowder Soup Bowl, Harvest Soup Bowl, pteri sphagetti item, (!!!! important to note) Lotus Leaves, Soothing Stones, Black Cherry Tea, Dried Mushrooms, anything neovian basically, (!!!! important to note) onigiris_ fruit baskets, mint / orange borovan items, durian food items

Now for items in 2007 that should not work: gnorbu / wool food items, aisha sundaes, buzz honey items, meatloaf / veggieloaf items, neggdrop / sweet sour / negg noodle / cheesy onion noodle soups, squid food, etc.

You get the picture. The most important things to note are that the only shenkuu food items that were released before the chef bonju avatar are:

Green Tea Custard, Bluchard Root, Purplum Buns, Artichoke Dumplings, Whomp Berry Noodles, Tigerbuggle Sushi, Tentacle Rice, Sushi Platter, Starberry Satay, Urchin Suprise, Mint Rolls, and Squibble Berry Salad.

Out of all of those items, Bluchard Root matches well, with a description: "Though very brightly coloured, this veggie is bland and best used in stews.

The only Remarkable Restoratives items that were released before the chef bonju avatar are:

Finely Ground Bean Powder, White Squid Root, Clay and Leaf Paste, Brilliant Draik Flower, Crumble Fungus, Steaming Green Tea, Cobrall Root, and Dried Prampet Leaves.

Crumble Fungus has an interesting description: "Keep your Neopet a bit quieter with these fungi.

Anger Management for Navigators mentions Chef Bonju's meals tasting of cardboard. And that could point to Bud Bud usage. But what if it's a red herring? The book was given out in the Advent Calendar, AFTER the avatar was released. Could it still be a clue? ;|
