{My tragic storey}
Adelinia was my first mate. For a few years we were happy just to be together. Then my first son was born, I felt a new responsibility overcome me and I was determined to provide for my growing family. After Lykaios, my first born, Adelinia was blessed with another. We were never short on love for our sons but food was always scarce. Most nights our pups went hungry and Adelinia and I slowly starved. Soon I was forced to travel far beyond our territory in search of food. For miles I trekked in unknown land, looking for the food I hoped to find. I couldn't return with the thought of frailer. I couldn't come back empty handed. Before I left I had noticed Adelinia's tired weak frame. She only had a few days left if she didn't eat something. My pups didn't fare any better. I was desperate and would do anything to get it. To my luck, I had found some but another was already there. A large male feasted with hungry jaws, he horked it down as though it would be his last meal. Since I hadn't eaten in some time, my bulk was shortened with hunger. I was weaker and this male would surely tare me apart without challenge.
The past hours were a blur to me. The last thing I could remember was the attack and the blood I tasted in my mouth, most of that blood was mine. I lay inside an abandon cave, my paw clutching the small hunk of meat that was cold from the exposure to the winter winds. I couldn't keep my eyes open and I finally fell asleep from exhaustion. While I slept the wind had picked up and a storm blew outside. I was safe in the cave, sheltered from the unforgiving winds. Shortly after morning broke and I was still asleep. I didn't awake until some time in the afternoon. The cave entrance was blocked with a wall of icy snow. I awoke with frustration and panic. I ran at the wall and started to dig. It was like clawing at a thick block of ice. I had to get home but the ice would not move. I rammed my body against the large mass, nothing moved. I tried once more with more strength as blood fell from my shoulder "No!?" I said in disbelief. I rammed again and it still didn't move "No! no! no!" I shouted as I slammed myself against the wall repeatedly. It was doing no good to me and family if I didn't return alive. My head swam while the blood dripped from my open shoulder. I had to get out and began digging at the ice again. With a slow progress, I managed to make a small hole in the wall with a few cracks here and there. My energy was slowly draining and I had one last chance to escape before would give up. I picked up the meat slab and backing up, prepared to ram the wall to attempt to make the hole bigger. I brought up every once of courage and ran head on towards my fate.
At first I thought I wouldn't break through and then to my amazement I broke out of my icy prison. My face was badly cut up and my other shoulder was now torn and blood flowed freely. I fell onto the snow letting the blood drain. I would have laid there until all my blood had left me. Then the image of my mate stood before me, Altar in mouth and Lykaios patting beside her. Her eyes looked upon me with forgiving and grieving. Those eyes, those warming eyes that gave me the strength to rise. The world spun and with that I coughed out a spew of blood. I searched for the dropped meat and picked it up in my jaws. With out hesitation I sped towards my home. I did not look back and ran without rest. I reached home at nightfall and a wave of relief washed over me. I approached where my family slept, holding the food I risked my life for. I barked slightly to let them know I had returned. At this I thought my pups would rush out to greet me but they did not. As I neared something felt wrong. I dropped the meat and rushed towards the underbrush. "Adelinia?" I saw three small forms, all were covered with snow. Running to the largest, I moved the snow off who I knew was Adelinia. Frozen was my family, died of cold and with them my life. I lay with them for the rest of the night and grief heavy on my heart. All that I had done, in the end, meant nothingâ?¦.
