You arn't quite sure when you became lost.
Too many twists in the forest.
Cold autumn winds blow the secrets of summers past into the depths of the forest.
Everything is cold, crisp, clean.
But something's missing.
The trees are bare already. Their branches hang grey and forelorn, their tortured limbs grasping at the passing breeze with skeletal fingers.
They looks wethered, old, and a thin layer of frost covers their greying bark. They look as though they have endured a thousand winters, and never felt the warm touch of the sun's rays.
What has happened here?
What's left of the dead gray leaves scattered across the loamy earth begin to crunchy mutely under the heave hooves of a large horse that starts to make its way towards you. It's a young stallion, but already his coat seems shabby with age, his mane and tail tangled from neglect.
He is as devoid of color as the gloomy forest that surrounds you. His coat is a dull grey, his mane only a few shades darker and his tail is darker still. Grey-black socks adorn his front legs, and on his cheeks, just beneath his eyes, spread a pair of flightless wings bareing only three feathers each.
But there is some color to him, you notice. His eyes. They're a soft, deep pink in color. How odd....
The stallion smiles at you, a little apologeticaly, but it does not touch his emotionless pink eyes. Are you lost? He questions after a moment of gazing at you.
You just nod your head mutely. The sad smile stays placed on the stallion's lips. I feel I must apologize. He says quietly, and nods to the forest around him. You see, my forest reflects my mood. I'm afraid it's been this grey for a long time. And easy to loose your way in.
The stallion sighs and you bite your lip, wondering if you should inquire.... Your curiosity gets the best of you and finally you ask the grey horse why he is so sad.
Again, he smiles, but there is a bitter hint to it now. That's a long story, I'm afraid. But, if you like.... I can tell you while I show you the way out.
You simply nod and, before you set off, you politely tell the strange stallion your name. He smiles once more and says My name is Luka.
