The forest you'd been walking in disappears from around you suddenly. The colors of brown and green that had made it up swirling and changing to the colors of someplace new... Now you find yourself in a vast, empty place with Asian characters falling and twirling in the air and bright green clouds floating around.
Ahead of you, a large wolf with pale green eyes, brown fur, and creamy markings stands, staring into the space. Noticing you he turns his head, cracking a soft smile. Hello, traveler... Welcome to my Dream Realm. He walks over and turns his head to one side, thinking. He's large, at least five feet at his shoulders. I am Lomahongva, the Keeper of Forests and Caves. Good day...
A Tale of Night and Day
story
Lomahongva lets out a very slight sigh and looks to the sky. Do you like stories? He asks, glancing at you with his pale green eyes. I could tell you mine if you like... But I warn you, it's a long, long tale.. He doesn't wait for an answer. Of course you like stories, every one does... Then, let me recount my tale, maybe you will find the tale of this Keeper interesting, perhaps?
As stories go, mine is pretty bland. It starts where it starts and ends where it ends... And when you live like I do, not much happens to make your life very interesting...
It all began a long time ago, before there was such a thing as 'man', and the world since untouched by pollution... A small pup was born to a small family of every day wolves. He had three older brothers, and two older sisters. This young pup was myself, of course, for I have no need to tell you a story of some one else. This pup, who was me, was called Lomahongva by his mother, though his father wanted him to be called Hikaru, but he was out voted by the others in the family- they already a Hikaru in their family, what need was there for a second? And so I was given my name: Lomahongva, a name which meant Beautiful Clouds Arising.
I and my other brothers and sisters and parents and pack lived on peacefully enough, year after year after year. We hunted together, laughed together, sang together, played together, slept together... It was a peaceful section of my life, and it lasted for a good ten or twenty years up until the time Man arrived on Earth. Not there is anything wrong with the Man of this day and age, but the Man of my childhood was a terrifying thing...
They came on the ever of my day of birth... We'd never seen such creatures such as these, and knew not that we should fear them, not until each and every one of us, with the exception of myself was captured. Luckily, I managed to escape, but I never saw my parents or family again.
Not long after this I met a most curious fellow. He asked all sorts of questions, all of which I answered promptly. What is your name? he asked, and I responded. Lomahongva., said I. Then the old fellow, a raccoon if I was any judge, scratched his chin and questioned us further. Where have you ventured from and where are you going? I answered him quick and true: Fur-less creatures had stolen my family, but I had escaped and was now just wandering, looking for my own home. Why is a home needed? Why not just wander? He asked, giving me a curious glance. I answered: Because, nothing is without a home. It's lonely having no where to call your own, no where that bears your scent, no where that is familiar and to be trapped in a world that is strange. It tips the balance of your being all out of wack not having a home. The old raccoon gave me a sly look and hopped down from the rock on which he sat. If I told you, I could give you a home... Would you accept? Regardless of the limits I told you of after you agreed? Slower than my other replies, I answered that I was willing.
The old raccoon cracked a grin, and waved his paws in the air. Then I will give you a home! You've already agreed... And now as a new found Keeper you cannot turn me down. He pointed at me, and then at Shiro. For you the forested mountain range of Suka... You are now a Keeper of your own Land, a being of power bound to where you live and bound to keeping the Balance of your Land.
Of course, I could make heads or tails of what the old raccoon said. Keepers? Lands? The mountains of Suka? What was this raccoon blabbering about? Was he just crazy? I didn't have time to think, or ask questions of the scraggly, old raccoon who had informed me of my fate for I quickly slipped into a deep, unwanted sleep...
When I awoke, I felt strange... And I wasn't where I had been when I had Slipped away. The place around me seemed to be a Shrine of some sort... Old, and worn... But it couldn't be that old, it was full of artifacts and carvings and paintings of a deer-like wolf that I could of sworn was me... But I didn't have horns, or those golden arc looking things above my neck or base of tail. Did I? I didn't before I'd fallen asleep. Tentatively, I swung my head back to look at my tail, finding- to my great shock- that I did indeed have a golden arc hovering above my tail with a green orb floating above it. I did my best to hook my paws over my head, and almost yelped as they touched against the tips of gold dusted tan horns, that certainly hadn't been there before! Wh-wha.. what? What... what... happened? I hadn't meant to say it out loud, but I had, and I was even more surprised when the old raccoon walked in through the doors of the shrine like place I found myself in.
The old animal gave me a grin. What happened is that you became a Keeper. I didn't understand him, and told him this quite clearly. I don't understand? A Keeper? What's a Keeper? Where am I? I was confused, and tired, and I really had no idea what was going on. But the raccoon just smiled at me sweetly. You'll figure it out all in good time I'm sure. For now... I can tell you where you are. You are in the forested mountain range of Suka, and where you are at is your own Shrine. You've been asleep a good few decades, you know... This shrine's grown old, but you haven't yet aged a day, and you never will. You are this land's Keeper, and I'm sure you'll figure everything out... For now, I'll take my leave. I am the Keeper of Creation and Imagination, if ever a time comes when you do need me, I am sure you will figure out the way to access my Dream Realm...
The old raccoon disappeared before I could pose him any question, and I have been here in this Land a Keeper for all the centuries since this happened... Ageless and everlasting, a kind and benevolent Keeper of the Land. The Keeper of Forests and Caves.
The Shrine of the Keeper of Forests and Caves
what is a keeper
Lomahongva puts his head down, as if bowing and regards you with his cool green eyes. I hope you enjoyed my tale, traveler... and I know you must be wondering, or at least I am hoping you are wondering, about what a 'Keeper' is... As I have mentioned that I was a Keeper several times, or more specifically that I was the Keeper of Forests and Caves. He sat back down after getting up to adjust the position he sat in, and glanced up at the sky, looking at the brilliant green clouds and the falling, twirling kanji.
I will tell you what a Keeper is, and I hope any curiosity will be satisfied... Once more he dipped his head, as if in thanks or as a bow, and began to speak.
A Keeper is a Spirit, though sometimes we are referred to as 'Gods' or some thing of the like. Each Keeper has its own land in which it lives and which it governs, and often cannot leave that land for more than a day or two, as the absence of the land's Keeper may lead to destruction, decay, or the tipping of the Balance.
Keepers exist to keep the Balance of their land, and each Keeper has different ways of assuring its land is functioning as it should, or of exercising its power. I keep the Balance of my Land by making sure the Sun Rises and Sets as it should, and leading it across the sky in the morning, and once more at night.
Every Keeper has a human or humanoid form, as well as the form of an animal... And each of these forms has three sub-forms, that change as the day passes. The names for the three sub-forms varies from Keeper to Keeper, depending on what they decide to call them. For me they are Sukai, Muuyaw, and Transition. The same names for my three 'sub' forms are the same for both me as an animal and me as a humanoid.
In addition to each Keeper having its own land, form, and powers, each Keeper has its own Title. Mine is the Keeper of Forests and Caves, and I once knew an ancient Keeper who said his title was the Keeper of Creation and Imagination. A lot of times our Titles are related to where we live or what we are interested in, though often they are cloudy and vague riddles related to how we govern our Land...
Well, I have talked on the subject of Keepers for long enough... I shall stop for now, and you should not hesitate to ask questions if any questions are left for you to ask. And if there are no questions, feel free to explore my Dream Realm... Lomahongva smiled, and shut his eyes for a brief moment, before looking off into the distance. For now he had nothing more to say; he'd given you permission to wander his Dream Realm, and now he was leaving you to it...

Shiro can be a little annoying at times. He never shuts up and always wears bright colors and in your face things. I don't think he ever grew out of being an awkward teen. But he's cool, he's nice and won't ever make fun of you or anything. He's also the closest thing I have to a brother nowadays, and for awhile he was a Keeper, but managed to force that duty one some one else. But, he won't tell me how he managed it, the little sneak.

We're not really family, but he was once a candidate to be a Keeper, though he turned down the offer to continue working on his inventions. I am not usually one to use insulting terms such as this... But he really is a big dorky, nerd. He's nice, so long as you don't hurt his pride or insult one of his inventions or robots. I haven't seen him in a good few years... I wonder how he's doing...

Ah... These two, I remember them. We're not related by blood, and we've only seen each other a few times, but I do see them as my sisters. The kind and shy Toturi and the loud-mouthed and rude Tutoyu... Twins, I believe they were... But, it's been ages since I've seen either of them...

good bye
Lomahongva looks up. Leaving already? Well... alright then, do visit me again. Flashing you a quick, lonely smile he goes back to looking at the sky, adding absent mindedly: Feel free to tell others to come and see me...
