Subscribing to Neopets Premium
Neopets Premium is a webpack full of exciting features for every Neopian! Neopets.com itself is a free gaming community but the Premium Webpack gives users an option to pay for an advertisement free Neopian atmosphere.

As of now there are three ways to sign up:

    1. Visit www.premium.neopets.com and choose the package that is right for you. If you have a moment, it would be considerate to use the next step first.

    2. Be invited by an existing premium user.
    Learn more about the referral program for existing users in the sections to follow.

    If you are serious about joining premium and understand the payment options, you may neomail one of the following premium users for a referral.

There are three options you may sign up for when registering for premium:


Each of these services comes with an initial 15-Day-Trial period. During this period you get a chance to experience all that premium has to offer free of charge! You will need to supply billing information before starting your trial period, as if you don't cancel your subscription, you will be automatically charged.

WARNING Neopets will not alert you when your trial period is up and will automatically bill your account. It is up to you to keep track of the time and cancel if you do not wish to continue.

Accepted Payment Methods!
There has been some confusion about the methods of payment that are currently accepted for premium service. As of right now, the following are the only ways in which to submit payments.

Major Credit Card

    VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover are all accepted.

    Also, your "debit" card that bears these logos can be entered in the same way.

    Remember: Credit card fraud is a crime! This includes the use of someone else's card (even a family member or parent) without their express permission. Never reveal your billing/credit information with any other Neopian, only submit this information through the Premium.Neopets.com secure server.


Paypal
    Neopets accepts payments through the services of Paypal, an online payment manager.

    Paypal accepts credit cards, bank transfers, and debit cards and more.

    Yes, you need an account with Paypal.com before you can use it to pay for your premium subscription.

    I recommend browsing the website to decide which form of payment is right for you.

    If you select Paypal as a billing option, Neopets will have a series of steps for you including logging into your paypal account (through a link they provide), and following the instructions as stated on PayPal pages. After you agree to PayPal Billing Agreement, you have to click Return To Merchant button in order to go back to our site and get your confirmation page.

    Clarification and Warning: Due to fraudulent activity of some not so nice Neopians, if you cancel your premium service during your trial period while you were signed up to pay via paypal you will loose both your paypal and EFT (see below) privileges for paying for premium.


Electronic Funds Transfer(EFT for USA only)
    An EFT transaction allows payers to have premium payments drawn directly from their bank accounts, eliminating the need to write checks.

    This form of payment automatically deducts the scheduled payments from your checking account as though it were an electronic "check", much like a "debit" card would work.

    At this time, EFT is available only to users currently living in the United States.

    You will need to provide two things for an EFT. Your bank account number, and a routing number, which can both be found at the bottom of each check in your checkbook.

Leto's Guide to Premium Neopets prides itself on having accurate, unbiased information about the Premium Service. It is not run by any member of the Neopets or Premium support team but has the support and praise of both. What is "neopets"?

    Your child will probably have a better, and more enthusiastic answer to this question but, in essence, Neopets.com is a virtual community. To quote the front page of neopets.com:

Neopets has many things to offer including over 160 games, trading, auctions, greetings, messaging, and much much more. Best of all, it's completely FREE!

Wait a minute! You said it was free! Whats this about my credit card then?

    The site of neopets.com is free and your child can continue to play as they always have without the Premium Neopets Webpack. The major benefit to subscribing to Premium is that it completely eliminates the paid advertisements around the site. Many parents feel that this is a safer environment, completely controlled by neopets, and without the interruption of paid messages with the possibility of misleading promises or pop up advertisements.

Is it safe to give Neopets my billing information?

    The Neopets Premium Service is handled by a communications company known as Velocity Services, Inc. (www.vsi.com). VSI helps to manage similar products for some of the world's largest consumer brands, media corporations, sports franchises, universities, entertainment entities, non-profit foundations and many others.

    Please only use this option as a last resort as the premium support receives a high volume of emails regarding various issues and, as canceling is a time sensitive issue, it's best to get an immediate reply with your confirmation number.

    • The last 4 digits of your credit card, checking account or paypal payment agreement whichever method of payment you chose.
    • Reason for cancellation

Note: After you cancel your subscription you will still remain a "premium member" with all the features that includes until the end of the trial period or month/year that you have already prepaid for.

Got a confirmation number, now what?
    Got a confirmation and wondering what to do with it? Write it down and keep it on file as a record of your cancellation. That way, if something gets messed up and you are still charged after the date you canceled you can dispute it and have evidence of your cancellation on hand.

Your Account after Canceling
After you cancel your Premium Service, you will still have use of it until it comes time for your rebill again. For example, if you cancel during your trial, you will still have use of the features until the 15 days are over. When you pay monthly or yearly, you are prepaying for that period of time and will keep use of it until it runs out.

What you'll keep without the service

    You will keep the Neomail Addict Avatar even after you quit premium and your subscription runs out.

    You will be able to keep any items and neopoints received during your premium service. This includes neopoint rewards and referral prize items.

    You will also be able to keep any alias or sub accounts that you created through the premium service, although they will also loose their premium access.

What you'll loose without the service
Loopholes...
    Some users are able to keep two premium features after their subscription runs out, but only on limited terms.

    The space faerie avatar and space faerie sidebar can be kept on an account if the user is actively using both of them at the time of cancellation For instance, if you are using the sidebar at the time your subscription runs out, it will not go away until you change it to something else.

    In this way, for now, you can keep using these two referral prizes, but if you ever switch to a different avatar or sidebar, you'll loose them without premium.

Resubscribing After Canceling
You've changed your mind about canceling? Wonderful! Resubscribing is a breeze and you'll find your premium account exactly as you left it.

Resubscribing if you've canceled but the service hasn't "run out

    If you've canceled your premium service but you haven't reached the end of the billing period yet, resubscribing is simple!

    Visit the upgrade page in your Premium User Admin and upgrade/downgrade to a different level of Premium Subscription.

    After you've done this, if you want to go back to the subscription you were at before, simply repeat the process to the level you prefer and you'll be back!

    Warning! Your billing method will automatically be charged if you upgrade your premium account (not so for downgrading) and the difference when you downgrade back to the subscription you had before will not be refunded to you. The difference will be applied to your next payment, credited to your premium account, but will not be refunded to your billing method.

.. if your subscription has already "run out

    You can contact Premium Technical Support for assistance or, much simpler, simply resign up at premium.neopets.com while logged into the account you want premium on.

.. if your premium was suspended by "rebill

    Rebill" means that when Premium attempted to bill your billing account, there was an error. This can mean anything from a glitch, or you got a new card with a new number, or insufficient funds. You have two options here:

    You can contact Premium Technical Support to change or update your billing information.

    You can also visit the upgrade page in your Premium User Admin and upgrade/downgrade to a different level of Premium Subscription as this is another way to update/change your billing account information.

Note that after you resubscribe to Neopets Premium, your Premium settings will be the same. Your portal preferences should be restored, any referrals you sent out will remain the same, as well as any referral prizes that you have earned. If you were a Charter member, your chat board status will be restored as well.

Starting Premium in a Nutshell
By popular demand, I have compiled a short and sweet guide for new premium users to get to know their new service. I've composed some tips, and suggestions for your benefit, I hope you find them useful.

First and foremost, review the # welcome email.

    When you first subscribe to neopets premium, you will receive an email from Neopets.com at your # neomail.com address. This email will thank you for subscribing to the premium service as well as alert you to your first billing date (after your 15 day free trial). Write this down! If you do not wish to continue with your service past the trial (in other words, do not want to be charged) you must cancel your subscription before the trial ends or to have the necessary funds ready for payment on this date. It is up to you to keep track of this day.

Secondly, get to know your user administration page.
    This is the very important page where you will manage all of your financial information as well as your premium account. Many users overlook this essential part of getting to know there service and find themselves frustrated and confused down the road.

    Do note that your premium "secret word" and your neopets "secret word" are separate and you can change either at any time without changing the other. I strongly recommend your changing your premium "secret word" to something different than your neopets "secret word" to protect your address and other private information in case the unfortunate event that someone gains access to your neopets.com account. This can be done right here on the user admin page.

    Familiarize yourself with this page. You can change your billing address, phone #, and payment method online through this resource. There are also links (along the top) for upgrading/downgrading your account, adding an alias and/or subaccounts. Get to know your user admin and you will be one step ahead of the game.

Thirdly, explore and customize your portal.
    Many of the premium features can be located here and its a nice way to personalize your premium experience. Choose from different color themes, top banners, and edit the entire layout of your portal including adding, reordering and subtracting modules. The best way to learn about your portal is to explore it, try things out and see what you like. For more information about how to customize your portal and what kinds of modules are available to you, click here.

Finally, introduce yourself on the premium neoboards.
    Many people's favorite feature of premium are the exclusive neoboards only for premium members! There are tons of friendly people just waiting to meet you so go ahead and socialize with your fellow premium members and maybe just make some wonderful neofriends!

    No, there are no "special rules" regarding premium or premium boards no matter what anyone tells you. However, spamming, begging and harassment are against the Neopets Terms and Conditions and are against the rules of every chat board and other aspect of the site. Besides, common courtesy and common sense make more friends than the lack of either.

The Portal.
Signing up for premium service allows you to access The Portal, a special webpage Neopets has assembled to make your life easier. The portal is your neopets premium hub and organizes anything you could possibly want right at your fingertips!

The portal includes: Customizable themes, quick links, a calendar, information on your active neopet, the current neopian weather in all lands, polls (like on the front page), a quick text-based version of Neopia's latest News/ Real World News/ The Neopian Times/ The Featured Game, your neofriends list including a feature that lets you view when your friends were last visiting neopets.com, your neopets webmail and neomail at your fingertips, a live ticking NEODAQ, site stats, a calculator, as well as a few real world tools including stocks, movie listings, directions, and more!

Super Shop Wiz

    A new feature in the Portal enables premium users to view the best prices in user shops all at once. Using the regular shop wizard often requires refreshing to view different shop groupings for low prices while this module lists every shop at one time, organized by price.

    To add the Super Wiz to your portal, read the customizing section below, the module option will be located under portal preferences / home page and entitled "Super Wiz". Once added, it will be located in the center of your portal, depending on the order you customize. To learn more about customizing your portal, read below.

    Restrictions?
    The Super Wiz is restrictive and database intensive so you probably will only be allowed to do a few searches a day using it. If premium users were allowed unlimited use of this feature, it would create too much of an advantage over the other players. So, we recommend using the regular Shop Wiz when searching for most items, and using the Super Wiz only when it is most important to you to find the lowest price. - Support

    Basically, you can be banned from using the Super Shop Wiz randomly but often sooner than using the regular wizard. Also, there are a few different types of items that you are unable to search for. These items include secret laboratory map pieces, paintbrushes (both neopet and petpet), transmogrification potions. If you attempt you will receive an error of Sorry, You are not allowed to search for "(particular item)" in the Super Wiz.

    Sniper Space
    Tired of waiting for the entire portal to load and the lag that this can sometimes cause? Launch your Super Shop Wizard into Sniper Space! Click the launch button at the bottom of your SSW module and the Sniper Space will popup in a new wind*w, allowing you to use the SSW to search shops and / or galleries without having to load the entire portal.

Customizing your portal

    Part of the fun of the Neopets Portal is the ability to customize it to fit your tastes! We will be working with the portal preferences pages which you can locate towards the top of your portal page.

  • Site Preferences
    • On the site preferences page in your portal preferences, you can edit which modules are displayed on the left and right hand sections of your portal page as well as the overall theme and color scheme.
      Add modules you think you might like to use, such as an items module, and remove modules that you don't need that are just cluttering your portal. You can reorder each module on the individual sides of your portal, switch sides and ad or remove modules until it's perfect.

  • Locale Information
    • The locale information page is where you can customize your portal based on where you live. It is automatically set up to the zip code and time zone of your billing address but you can changes this manually if you see fit.

      Time zone will affect your portal clock module (if you are using it) and you have the option to add a feature to check for international weather as well as edit the zip code for your My Weather module and your Movie module should you be using them. Again, you can add/remove/reorder your modules in the site preferences section of your portal preferences.

  • Home Page
    • This is where you are able to organize the main/center section of your portal page. Just like in site preferences, you can add/remove/reorder modules to suit your liking.

      This is how you can remove real world stocks (as well as all the other modules located in the center by default.

      You cannot, however, move one of the center modules to the left or the right and you can not add a left or right module to the center.

  • Calendar
    • If you are not using the Calender module (on the left or the right) then you have no real use for this page.

      The calendar preferences simply lets you add/remove/reorder the features shown in the calendar module including the calendar itself, the Word of the Day and This Day In History.

  • Current Events
    • The current events preferences appear to let you add/remove/reorder various current events modules.

Browsing Neopets Using Your Portal – Switch!

    There are now two ways for you to utilize your portal! You can visit it directly or use it as a "frame" to browse the Neopets.com site inside the portal itself!

    Switch to Portal Browsing

      To "switch" from browsing Neopets using the regular sidebar to browsing using your portal, you can simply click the spinning green and red arrows in the top right of your sidebar.

    Switch to Sidebar Browsing

      To switch back to browsing the side using your sidebar instead of the portal, click the same red and green arrows which can be found at the bottom left of your portal frame.

    Visiting the Portal Itself

      To visit your Neopets Portal as a stand alone hub, you can still click the portal link at the top right of your sidebar view or visit http://www.neopets.com/portal/. If you are browsing the site in the "portal frame" you can also click this button to view the stand alone portal.

      Note: If you are browsing using the portal as a frame and visit your stand alone portal, it will insert the middle row of modules into the frames. To view the original portal you have to switch back to browsing with the sidebar.

      Note that any customizations applied to the regular portal in regards to theme and color schemes will also be applied to your portal frame.

    Mod List / Make Default

      On both the left and right sides of your portal frame you will find a Mod List link and perhaps a Make Default link as well.

      Clicking the Mod List link enables you to literally modify what portal module you want displayed.

      In the left frame you can choose to display the following one at a time:

    • Clock
    • Neo Poll
    • Guilds
    • Favorites
    • Neopian Weather
    • Calculator
    • By selecting the "Make Default" link you are "locking in" the current module to be the default selection whenever you are using your portal for browsing.

      In the right frame you can choose to display one of the following at a time:

    • Your Neopet Info
    • My Items
    • Trades
    • Auctions
    • By selecting the "Make Default" link you are "locking in" the current module to be the default selection whenever you are using your portal for browsing.


Stealth!
Premium users have the option to turn their "Last Spotted" status to "stealth" -- thereby hiding when they were last online________________________.

To do this visit your portal page and find your neofriends module. This should be in the middle segment under the reference module on a default portal page.

Simply click the yellow at the bottom of your neofriends module for "invisible" or "Stealth!" status.
(some users might have stealth status without having been premium from the toolbar back during the bori promotion)


No Paid Advertisements!
One of my favorite features of the service, both the top banner ads and the bottom ads are completely removed from your Neopets experience! Cruise the site completely ad free :)


# Neopets Webmail!
You now have an email address off guest@neomail.com!
Cool huh? The email corresponds to the neopets user name that you signed up for premium with. Ie., mine would be reissue@neomail.com.

You can easily access your webmail simply by visiting # neomail.com.

Your webmail features:

To set up Parental Controls, click here. Remember to choose a secret word different from your child's account word so that they cannot access/change/remove the settings you choose.

To set up spam filters to protect your webmail click here.

Yes your webmail is unrestricted email just like any other, there are no filters or monitors screening the content so be careful.

Remember! Keep the email that you use for your neopets account secret! Using guest @neomail.com as your word retrieval email probably isn't the safest idea.

Add/Edit Email Signature

    When you send e-mail, your name will appear in the From field and your personalized signature in the bottom of the outgoing message. To add or edit your signature:
      Click the Options" tab in the main e-mail page
    • 1. Select "Add/Edit Default Email Signature" link:
    • 2. In the "From Name" field, type in the name you would like to show when sending an e-mail (i.e. Frank Sloth)
    • 3. In the "Signature" field, type in what you would like to have others see when they receive an e-mail.

Toolbar Options

    Your toolbar options panel can be found in three places:

    These will all take you to the same panel, open on different tabs.

    Tab One – General

      This tab is to help you customize the overall function of your toolbar.

      Select Language
      As of now the only two languages you are able to choose for your portal are English and Espanol (Spanish)

      URL Handling
      Have Email Links Use Neopets Webmail
      By having this box checked, the email button will direct you to neomail.com and your guest @neomail.com account (this is default)

      Shopping Redirect
      By keeping this checked you are keeping neopets FREE of annoying popups and banner ads.
      If anyone has more information re: Shopping Redirect, please contact reissue.

      Button Visibility
      Select which toolbar buttons you would like to be displayed in your Neopets toolbar and uncheck the ones you don't.
      You also have the option to Show / Hide the button labels on the toolbar itself.

      Default
      Careful! Clicking this default button (in the lower left of the screen) will reset any changes you have made to your toolbar and restore the default settings.

    Tab Two – Pop Up Blocker
      This tab is to help you customize the Pop-Up Blocker feature of your Neopets Toolbar.

      Enable / Disable
      You can select the Enable Pop-Up Blocker shield or the Disable Pop-Up Blocker shield using the radio buttons beside them.

      Preferences
      You can check whether you would like a sound, image and Pop-Up count to appear whenever the toolbar blocks an unwanted Pop-Up. You can have them all checked, none at all or pick and choose your favorites.

      Reset Count
      This button will reset the tally of the number of Pop-Ups your toolbar has blocked.

      Always Allow/Block Popups
      There are two sections towards the bottom of this panel which will allow you to specify which sites should always allow popups or which sites should never.
      The ADD button will allow you to add a website's URL, REMOVE will delete the selected URL from the list (if you have one added) and MODIFY will let you edit the URL you have selected.

      Careful! Clicking this default button (in the lower left of the screen) will reset any changes you have made to your toolbar and restore the default settings.

    Tab Three – My Favorites
      This tab is to help you customize the Favorites feature of your Neopets Toolbar.

      Add To My Favorites
      You can select whether you would like the Toolbar to automatically add links that you visit in Internet Explorer to your favorites menu or if you would like to add them each yourself. I suggest selecting Manually however Automatically is the default setting.
      If you select to add your favorites manually, an option of "Add to My Favorites" will appear on the favorites drop down menu. This will add the page that you are currently browsing in your Internet explorer wind*w to your favorites list (much like AOL).

      Favorites Clean-Up
      Check which category you would like to delete the Sites listed as favorites in and then click the "Clear List" button to clear the favorites listed in the categories you checked.

      Default
      Careful! Clicking this default button (in the lower left of the screen) will reset any changes you have made to your toolbar and restore the default settings.

Installation Problems?

    The source of the problem is either of three choices:

    1. You clicked "No" in the Security Dialogue box.

      If so, restart the installation process and click "Yes" in the Security Dialogue Box.
    2. You have Windows NT/2000/XP and do not have Administrative Privileges.
      Please log off your computer and login as Administrator, or contact your network administrator for help.
    3. Your Security Settings are too high.
      To change your settings,
      • Go to the IE menu
      • Click "View" or "Tools"
      • Select "Internet Options"
      • Select the "Security" tab
      • Change the Security to "Medium" or "Low"
      • Restart the install process

    Choose one of the following options:

      • Visit Settings - select Control Panel

Meet the infamous Tarla
Toolbar users have been delighted by the new addition of a friendly red ixi by the name of Tarla. You may recognize her from the Shop of Mystery on Terror Mountain.

When the alert button on their toolbar flashes, they can rush over and receive a wonderful rare item!

The times which Tarla is "in the building" are random throughout the day, although some days she won't appear at all. No one is sure when she'll sound the alert next, so keep an eye on your toolbar!

When Tarla is "in the building" with your presents, your Alert Button will flash yellow. This won't last long, and she will typically only give presents for 2-5 minutes each time so make sure you're quick!

SHH - Something Has Happened Events
As a premium user, you are eligible to receive SHH events through your neopets webmail. This is what is referred to as "double SHH"

The frequency of the webmail events seem to depend on portal usage. So the more you use your portal, the more webmail SHH you will receive :)

I keep my portal as my home page and visit it throughout the day.

These webmail SHH will appear as emails in your webmail inbox and will include a url. Clicking on the url will take you to your portal page where a standard "something has happened" image will await you. The neopoints and/or items will be automatically added to your account.

Webmail SHH Prizes: Neopoints ranging from 500-1500nps, random items (ie. Green Mouth Wash, Royal Oak Wood Cabinet,Colourful Xylophone) and sometimes codestones.

Note: Some people have been confused on how SHH events work, both in webmail and on neopets itself. SHH are random events meaning that they are not predictable. For each page view (on the portal for webmail shh and on the neopets site for regular shh) you stand a chance of having a SHH event. The more page views, then, the more chances of having a SHH.

Alias Accounts!
The account you signed up for premium with is your 'main premium account,' however you are allowed one alias account for a gallery or other side account that you do not earn neopoints on.

Your alias account will have the same perks as your "main" premium account (ie. portal/no ads/board access etc).
Note: Emails sent to youralias@neomail.com will be forwarded to your main premium inbox. You will not receive SHH or scratchcards for your alias.

Yes, using the alias feature is free of charge and included in all of the premium neopets packages. If you cancel your premium subscription your alias account will automatically cancel as well.

Careful! Neopets allows you to have extra accounts but only ONE that you are allowed to play games and earn neopoints on. Your alias account is no exception to this rule.

Giving your alias account to a different user.

    Just don't do it. Alias accounts were never designed to be 'stand alone' premium accounts and in most cases the webmail may not function and webmail SHH and scratchcards do not arrive/work properly.

    If you want to add a family member/friend to premium read on about sub-accounts or the referral program.

    If you have already given your alias to a family member's account, don't worry. You will not be frozen for giving the alias account away. Just like with regular neopets, you'll only get in trouble if TNT suspects you using multiple accounts to gain an advantage.

    If you have other neopets users sharing a computer, linked by alias or not, be safe and clear your cache / Internet history between accounts.

Having Problems using an existing account?

    It is possible that your "secret word" is too long! While its a great idea to have a long, complicated word for Neopets, the alias form appears to "cut off" after a certain number of characters.

    To fix this, change that account's word here to something shorter (under seven characters) temporarily and try again. Remember to go back and change it to something secure that you will remember when you are done!

Dial-Up "Sub" Accounts!
For approximately double the price of one premium account, any user can sign up for Premium Dial Up Service, whether or not they connect using a dial up modem or not. This service enables the user to add up to five "sub accounts" in addition to your alias. Very convenient for larger families, each sub account works just like a stand alone premium account complete with webmail, scratchcards and SHH webmail.

Using the Referral Program
Most of us know that premium neopets will be open to the public in only a matter of time. We are simply beta testers of a service that while hopefully generate enough revenue to keep the site going and free for everyone who chooses to play for free.

As a step in that direction, neopets has enabled a referral program, giving veteran premium members 20 referral spots so that they might invite friends or other users to join in the premium experience without having to wait for an opening.

Who can refer?

    The Referral Program is now open to all paid users.

Deleting referrals

    You now have the ability to delete a referral that has not signed up for the trial after 7 days, IF you have used up all 20 of your referrals.

    To delete referrals, visit the reward status page. Click the delete link next to the name. You can only delete one at a time as you need all 20 referrals to be used before the option becomes available

    If one of your referrals decides not to continue the Neopets Premium Web Pack Service after testing the 14 day free trial you are automatically able regain their referral place. Note, this is only if they signed up for the free trial period.

It can be difficult and frustrating to find users to refer to premium neopets as the market is relatively flooded with users hoping to earn referral prizes. Here are a few tips to remember when trying to refer:

Believe in what you're selling

    This can make such an important difference. You are essentially "selling" premium and users can certainly tell if you enjoy your premium service.

Who should/can subscribe to dial up premium?

    Anyone can subscribe to the dialup service regardless of how your computer connects to the Internet Cable Internet users can subscribe just as easily as those who connect through their phone line. Inversely, if you do use your phoneline to connect your computer to the Internet, you do not have to subscribe to the dial up service and can, if you prefer, sign up for the basic webpack. Also, it is important to note that subscribing to Premium Dialup will not cancel your existing connection service (aol, netzero, etc) nor will it impair or alter the service in anyway. You do not have to use Neopets to connect to the Internet, even if you pay for the Dial Up plan and are perfectly capable of keeping your existing ISP while being a premium dialup member. There is a program available for you to download if you do wish to connect to the Internet through this service but we'll talk more about that later.

    So who should take advantage of Premium Dialup Service? Families with more than one member who plays neopets and wants premium service to take advantage of subaccounts feature should defiantly subscribe. Users who would like to use the Neopets Dialup Program with accelerator to connect to the Internet should also subscribe to the dialup service.

    Only users of the United States and Canada will be able to use the included software to connect to the Internet using their phoneline.

Premium Dial Up vs Premium Webpack.

    There are more differences besides the price between the webpack and dialup premium services.

    Both subscriptions enable a user to access the portal, webmail, premium chat boards, etc. Both come with a 15 day free trial however, if you upgrade/downgrade your account, the trial is not included – you only get one! Essentially, the Dialup Premium service is the basic premium webpack plus a few extras.

    Premium Dialup includes all that the webpack has to offer (essentially this entire petpage) plus the use of up to five subaccounts which act as stand alone premium accounts for large families. Premium Dialup Users are also entitled to download and use the Premium Dialup Software † Accelerator to connect to the Internet This is a fast, reliable connection which includes parental controls, popup blockers, and virus filtering plus is estimated to run up to 5 times faster than regular dialup.

Accelerator?

    Your Premium Dialup Software as an added feature which they call the "accelerator" Using this software and service to connect your computer to the Internet via your telephone line can speed up your connection up to 5 times the speed without the accelerator This feature can only be used when connecting through a phone line using the Premium Dialup Software paired with the dialup subscription.

    How does this work? Essentially, Internet traffic goes through the Dialup Software, which runs in the background on your computer. It sends page requests to the premium proxy servers, that perform sophisticated compression and implement additional technologies, resulting in significant browsing speed increase.

Dialup Software Downloading and Troubleshooting

    If you are a Premium Dialup Subscriber, you can download your dialup software here. Be sure to read the email and dialup disclaimers and terms of service!

    After downloading the software, launch the program. There should be a star icon labeled "Neopets Dial-Up" on your desktop/taskbar. Loading the program should take you to the Neopets Dialup Wizard.

    Select if you an existing Dialup User or not and click next. Here you will fill in your location name and the software will help you choose matching access numbers. The connection service is only available in the US and Canada. Once you have at least one access number selected you will be asked to inform the program of any special numbers or extensions to dial in order to access an outside line. If you have any questions, ask a parent/guardian or a computer savvy friend/coworker. Once the wizard is completed you should be able to log on through the log in screen which will appear when loading the program from now on. Be sure your phone cables are attached securely to your computer and that you have an active line for it to dial out of.
    Your username to log into the Dialup Program would be guest @neomail.com.

Secret Words

    I strongly recommend that you change your premium "secret word" after activating the service. You can change the word here without changing your neopets word. This can be important if your Neopets.com account is scammed to protect your billing and other personal information from the intruder until you regain access to your account.

Free" Premium / Alias Scams
    Some users choose to exploit the premium service in an effort to scam others. They might offer to "add" your account to their existing premium service as an alias or a subaccount. They might also claim to want to pay for a premium account as a "gift." Do not fall for these scams! Never give out your secret word to anyone under any circumstances! Regardless of what anyone offers you or tells you, your word is the key to your account and it it is up to you to keep it secret and safe!

Email Safety
    It is very important to keep the email that you use for your secret word retrieval secret! Many email services (including your premium webmail) have systems established in order to help you retrieve lost words and access the account. This can be abused by scammers who might have extracted the necessary information in a casual conversation without your noticing.

    Just remember to keep your email safe and confidential to protect your account! If you are a premium member than your neopets webmail is not a secret so it is in your best interest not to use this as your Neopets.com email for word retrieval.

What to do if your Premium Account is Frozen!
IMPORTANT! Premium Neopets users are held to the same rules and terms of use as every other Neopets user. There are no special breaks, allowances or exceptions when it comes to rules. If you break a rule, you will be frozen. If you are frozen for breaking a rule, you will not get your account back. Everyone on neopets must abide by them, no excuses or exceptions.

Billing

    If your premium account is frozen, it is your responsibility to cancel the service before you are billed again. It will not cancel automatically. Click here for more information on canceling or simply call 1877NEOPIAN and speak to a live rep.

    If you want to put a premium subscription on a different account, simply sign up again or tell the representative on the phone that you would like to do so after you cancel.

There was a mistake! I didn't break a rule!

    Sometimes the Neopets Team makes mistakes, takes information out of context or misconstrues a situation. In these instances, you have an opportunity to look into the reason for your frozen account and have the situation reviewed. There is no gaurantee that you will have your account unfrozen.

    Submit an Inquiry

      Log in by entering the user name of your frozen account as well as the word that you used to log into Premium (not necessarily Neopets.com unless they were the same)

      Once logged in, you will be asked to enter some basic information to verify that you are the owner of the account in question. This information includes Username, Email address (and any others associated with the above account), Disowned Pets, Created Pets, Equipped Items, Neofriends, Birth date on the account, and any additional information.

      When you submit your inquiry you will receive this message: Thank you. Your message has been sent. Please submit only one inquiry per frozen account.

      Take their word for it and do not submit more than one inquiry about your frozen account. All you can do now is wait while they review your account and the reason it was frozen. There is no gaurantee you will have your account unfrozen. The best of luck to you!

    Refunds?

      The Neopets Premium Terms of Service State:
        provider reserves the right to cancel Service for any reason without prior notice. Pre-paid service is non-refundable. Provider will not refund any shipping or handling fees. Cancellations are defined as a cancellation of the automatic renewal of the account and are not a termination of any prepaid period." (....)

        Fees for any setup, shipping and handling, and monthly or annual service charges placed by Provider are non-refundable. (.....)

        Provider may, at its sole discretion, allow for a pro-rated refund of unused annual service fees after the collection of a cancellation fee.

      So what does this mean? You can try to contact Premium Support regarding a refund but more likely than not one will not be awarded. They will review the case and make a decision based upon whatever factors they see fit. Best of luck to you.

Q. I canceled my subscription, why am I still a premium member?

    You will retain the benefits of a premium member until the end of your prepaid period (month/year) or until the end of your free trial period. At this point your service will shut off completely.

Q. How do you add your dailys to the portal?

    In your portal preferences add the favorites module to the left or right side of your portal. After updating, visit your portal and click the "add favorite" button found on your favorites module. Add whichever links you like including dailys for easy access :)

Q. Where is marshmellow world?

    A. This was a joke. Someone recolored jelly world and pulled off an elaborate hoax. There is no marshmellow world, premium members do not have their own special land to visit. If someone claims that it exists, they are lying to you :x

Q. What is the "boss button" and where do I find it?

    A. The boss button is a cute new feature of your portal. If you click the lower right hand corner or upper right hand corner of your portal, it should switch into "work mode" to be used in case you are playing neopets at work and your boss happens to walk by. If you want to switch back just click the lower/upper right again. Do note that this was mainly designed as a joke and don't be surprised if you are "found out" for playing neopets on the job even with this feature in place.

Q. Is the premium server secure? Is it safe to put your credit information out there?

    A. As with anything else, put your credit information out at your own risk. However, neopets has taken every precaution to make sure that your payment information and other personal information you provide is kept confidential and safe.

Q. If I refer someone to neopets premium but they delete the neomail, must I resend?

    A. No resending is necessary. Direct them to premium.neopets.com and they will be able to view the page with your referral even without clicking the link in the neomail.

Q. Do premium users get to change their yellow neopets sidebar?

    A. Not unless they have unlocked a sidebar through neopets. You have to unlock all the existing ones just like everyone else. There is an exclusive Premium Sidebar which is only available through the referral program and has to be unlocked.

Q. Can premium users play flash games and send scores unlimited times per day (vs the 3) / is the 1000 neopoint prize limit removed?

    A. I'm afraid not. Premium users have to abide by the same gaming rules and restrictions as regular neopets users.

Q. Where is the user admin?

Q. Do dial-up users have to get the Dial-Up service?

    A. Not at all! The dial up service is simply for users who want to use the neopets program to connect to the Internet using their phone line instead of AOL, NetZero or their current provider. Learn more here.

Q. Is it true that premium members can change the interests in their lookups to whatever they want?

    A. No this is not a premium feature. However, if you want to change what your interests say in your lookup you can using CSS (premium or not) Code can be found at tineneohelp.com

Q. Why don't you add screenshots to this page?

    A. As it stands, the page is not image heavy and loads pretty quickly on most computers and even dialup. I want people to be able to access the information easily and quickly and not be bogged down with graphics.

Q. You won't add me to the referral list! Why??

    Updating this page (because if its size) is a very tedious process and doing so takes a lot of time. I'm busy in real life and on neopets and I just had to stop adding names for my own sanity. Unfortunately, the petpage I used to link to here must have given up after feeling the same way. If you know of a petpage that lists users looking to use their premium referrals, please neomail reissues.

Q. How long has premium neopets been around?

    A. I am not entirely sure but I believe since May of 04, first billing in June of 04. I have been a member since October 04.

Q. Do you have to have the portal window open to receive Premium benefits?

    A. No. All portal usage affects are your webmail SHH events and that is based on how many page views you get on your portal and how much you use it, not how long the window has been opened.

Q. It's Friday and the Space Faerie Scratchcard is missing!

Q. Do you get a lot more random events? It said twice as likely, but I still haven't had even one.

    A. By twice as many random events they are referring to the SHH that you now receive in your webmail :) Learn more about that further up the page, under SHH.

Q. I referred someone to premium neopets but the page says that "beta testing is full"? What do we do?

    A. Have this user clear their cache and temporary Internet files and try again :)

Q. Can I copy / reuse / reproduce any part of this petpage for my petpage / fan site / newsletter / etc?

    I have received this question quite a few times and my answer is always the same. No. If you wish to reference the information contained on this page please do so by linking using one of our banners, one of your own, or just a text link. "Credit" simply doesn't suffice in my opinion. Why give someone only part of the information when you can link them to a more vast and searchable resource that (hopefully) will answer all of their questions? To make this very very clear, do not reproduce Leto's petpage in part or in full.

Q. I seem to remember reading we had a time limit of 8 hours in one day of playing neopets. Is that true?

    A. Not at all! There are no restrictions placed upon a users neopets account because of premium service.

    However, premium neopets dial up service will disconnect your active Internet connection (nothing to do with neopets.com) after 5 hours of consecutive usage and you must wait at least one minute before reconnecting.

    Also, neopets dial up terms of service states:
    In order to make the Service available fairly to all Users, Provider reserves the right to suspend usage for the duration of the pay period if User exceeds Provider's usage standards. Usage standards are defined as less than an average of 8 hours a day for an 8 day period. If User's account exceeds these usage standards it will be suspended for the duration of User's current pay period and be reactivated upon the next regular successful rebilling.
    Again, this has nothing to do with your neopets account only an active connection using the dialing software provided by neopets high speed dial up.

Q. How do you know the date of your next billing cycle?

    A. If you still have the initial email that neopets sent to your webmail account upon joining premium, they should inform you of the next billing date. If not and you have not yet been billed, count to the 15th day of your trial period and expect to be billed on this day if you have not canceled. If you have already been billed at least once, check your credit card/paypal statement to see which date your rebill date will be, it will be billed from VELOCITY SERVICES and will repeat on the same day each month.

Q. I'm planning on canceling premium, but I have referred users who are in their 15 day free trial period. Will they be able to continue?

    A. Yes. If you referred them to premium service they now have their own accounts that are not contingent on you remaining with the subscription. However, you will not receive your referral prizes if you are not a premium member at the time they are to be awarded.

Q. What do I do if someone I referred is under thirteen and can't sign up without parental permission?

    A. The new sign-up form has been introduced. You can finally sign up your under 13 kids as long as they have the parental permission form on file. The new form should also help out quite a bit with International sign-ups that now have increased flexibility with address, zip, and city inputs.

Q. When I use links in my portal, they open up into a new window, is there anyway to change this?

    A. There sure is :) Visit this page (or click the portal preferences link in your portal) There is now an option that says "Links open a new page?" Simply click "yes" or "no" followed by the "save" button.
