Hello guest.
Thanks for visiting my new Stock Market Guide. I know when I first discovered the Stock Market I wasn't sure what to buy or how long to hold on to shares before selling, so I decided to create this guide to help others who feel the same.
On this page:
I don't have a lot of experience in the Stock Market but I've read other guides, watched the stock market and talked to people on the message board and I know the general facts. This guide is really just the basics but hopefully it will explain clearly what you need to know.
My guide isn't as 'fancy' as some of the others I've seen, but I wanted to keep it simple. (And I don't know much about HTML!!!) However, you will find links to the stock market and other guides etc to help you even more.
For my dailies guide click here.

Where is the Stock Market?
The Stock Market can be found in the Games Room under 'Board Games' or 'Luck/Chance'. There is also a link on the Neopets homepage - click on 'Neodaq index' below the news flash box.
Or you can click here.
Why should I invest in the stock market?
The Stock Market is a great opportunity to make neopoints. Plus you can have fun at the same time!
How do I buy stocks / shares?
You can only buy stocks that are trading at 15np or above. This is to keep the market balanced. You are only allowed to buy up to 1000 shares each day, though you may purchase as many shares as you like below this number.
When you are on the main Stock Market page you can click on 'Buy' and enter the Ticker Symbol of the company you would like to buy shares in. Click here to go there now.
You can also click on Find Stocks and choose from a list of companies. All you have to do is click on the blue Ticker Symbol and then the name of the company. Enter the number of shares you would like to buy - make sure you have enough neopoints on hand!

What is a Ticker Symbol?
A Ticker Symbol is simply an abbreviation of the company name - this is what they are usually known by on the Stock Tips Message Board.
What does 'volume' mean?
This is the number of shares that have been bought and sold in a single day.
What does 'Open' mean?
This is the price of the stock at the start of the day. The start of a new day is 12.00am NST.
What does 'curr' mean?
This is the current price of a particular stock.
Your portfolio shows you (from left to right):
At the bottom of your portfolio there is a line which will look something like this example:
Totals: 5000 75,000 60,000 -10.00%
This shows (from left to right):
The total number of shares you have bought (5000)
The total number of neopoints you spent to purchase to shares.
The current market value - the number of neopoints you would get if you sold all of you shares.
The last number shows the total profit or loss you have made in a percentage.
There is currently no way to 'organise' your portfolio.
You should always buy stock at 15-16nps a share. You can choose which company you want to invest in - there isn't one that is better than the others - but buy at 15-16nps a share!
You can buy as many shares as you like, however you should aim to buy 1000 every day. This means that your profit will be greater.
Go to your portfolio and you will see a small arrow next to the logo of each company. Click on the arrow next to the company where you want to sell your shares. Type the number of shares you want to sell into the box on the right, underneath 'Sell' then click 'Sell Shares'.
No, you can sell as many shares as you want at any time. However, each time you sell shares, Nigel the Chia will charge you 20np commision but that's not a lot so you don't have to worry.
Firstly, NEVER SELL AT A LOSS! You should be aiming to sell when your stocks have reached at least +100%, but there is no set time when you should sell. It really depends on whether you are happy with the profit you have made. If you are then you can sell but if you're hoping to make a lot more neopoints then hold on for a bit longer before selling.
Wait. You'll hear a lot of people say that patience is the key thing when investing in the stock market and they're absolutely right. You just have to wait until the price goes up again.
The Stock Market is completely random and no one knows what will happen with the stocks. So if anyone tells you (especially Nigel the Chia) to buy a certain stock because they hear it's about to do well then don't listen!
Stock prices change every half hour (.28am/pm and .58am/pm NST) but not every stock changes on every occasion. Stocks will change at different times.
You can check your portfolio and your stocks whenever you want and as often as you like.
Always try to invest in as many stocks as possible - diversify. It creates a stable portfolio so that when some stocks are doing badly hopefully the others will be doing well.
13 stocks have gone bankrupt in the past and the last was in 2004. The rumour is that neopets no longer has stocks that go bankrupt because it makes people mad and causes too much 'uproar' from the result. So you don't have to worry about stocks going bankrupt.
No. In a real stock market, if everyone bought one type of stock then that would go up in value. This is not the case in the neopian stock market. People used to have guilds that would use this method so they could sell their stocks and make a profit but neopets caught on and changed the system - so don't try it!
No. They don't influence each other at all. They are totally different.
It really depends what you buy and sell at and how many shares you have. When buying shares you want to diversify as much as possible. One day you might buy 1000 shares in NATN. The next day buy shares in a different company, TAG for example. And so on until you have shares in as many companies as you can - only buy at 15-17nps. When selling you want to try and sell at +100% or more but as long as you're happy with the profit you've made then you can sell when you want.
So to answer the question: There is no answer! It depends on how you play the stock market.
Play games, sell items in your shop to make a profit, collect your monthly freebies! Also, if you have 15,000np then you have enough to invest in 1000 shares at 15np a share. If you keep the stocks and sell high you'll make a profit! I suggest you read a guide on how to make a lot of neopoints if you're still unsure on what to do.
