HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT

Screenshots are fairly popular now and quite a few people want to learn how to do them. This tutorial uses the simplest programs that most people have. Follow it and you should have yourself a screenshot page :]

1. Go to the page that you want to take a screenshot of).

2. On your keyboard, press "Print Screen" (the button to the right of F12).

3. Open up MS Paint (or whichever graphics program that you prefer to use)

4. Go to edit and then paste.

5. If you get a pop up box that asks if you would like the bitmap enlarged, click on yes (MS Paint only).

6. Now you can either leave it as it is or crop the image to get rid or some of the excess parts. (If you do not know how to crop, then read the tutorial below this one) It is suggested that you either crop or resize the image since photobucket will automatically resize images over 250K.

7. When you are done, go to file and then select save as. Save the image as a new image (must be a .jpg extention!)

You can also add text, images, etc to your screenshot before you save. It's all you.

PUTTING THE IMAGE ON YOUR PETPAGE

I know a lot of people are wondering just how to get that image from their computer onto the web. It's rather simple. For this tutorial, I'll be using http://www.photobucket.com. They are an excellect image host provided that your images aren't too large. You might want to crop your image to just whatever you want to show people to save space, bandwidth, and loading time.

1. Create an account at http://www.photobucket.com if you do not already have one.

2. Once you have an account created, log into your account using the username and pw that you chose.

3. Now, where is says "Add Picture", click on the button that says "Browse".

4. Find the file on your computer and double click on it. The file address should show up in the blank text area between Add Picture and Browse.

5. Click on "Submit".

6. Scroll down the page a bit and you should see your image within a box. Below your image, there is an area that says "Tag".

7. Copy and paste that entire row into the area where you want your screenshot to show up on your petpage or wherever you want to put the image (ie: userlookup, another webpage, shop, etc).

Note: If you cannot see the rows that say url, tag, and IMG...go to "Account Options", which is the first green button at the top, and make sure you have "display url, display tag, and display IMG" marked as yes rather than no.

Note: If you do not wish to use photobucket or do not wish to wait to create an account, try the freewebs tutorial.

All done. If you did everything right, you now have a screenshot. Congrats~

The tutorials below are optional but you might consider using them for a cleaner/more organized page or if you aren't sure on how to do something in the tutorials above.

CROPPING IN MS PAINT

Cropping an image in MS Paint can be kind of confusing but it isn't complicated once you know how to.

1. Open the image you want to crop.

2. Click on the selection tool. It looks like this:

3. Drag your mouse across the image so that you have a selection around the area that you want to keep (meaning that the area which you want to save the image as has a selection around it)

4. Right click using your mouse and select "cut

5. Go to file and then new. Click no on the pop up unless you want to save your current image.

6. Go to edit and then paste and the area of the image which you selected should now appear.

7. If you need to, resize the white area to fit your image by clicking and dragging on the little black boxes located in various positions around the box.

(Please neomail me if there is an easier way to do this)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

RESIZING IN PHOTOBUCKET

If your images are too large, you can resize them using an option at photobucket.com and it's quite easy.

1. Upload the image.
2. Down below where your uploaded images shop up, click on "edit" above the image that you want to resize.

3. Go down to "Resize Picture".

4. Click on the one that you want to use. Usually 75% or 50% will be enough. 25% might be a bit too small.

5. Click on the resize button and it will automatically be resized.

Note: You cannot enlarge a picture. You'll have to reupload your image if you want a larger version.

Note: I wouldn't recommend doing this since your resized version won't look very nice. It's a better idea to just crop what you don't need. You can still use this if you like, of course.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Alternatives

Below are some alternative ways you can use to edit and host screenies/other images. I find photobucket to be the easiest but you may of course choose to use these methods.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Using freewebs as a host

1. Create an account at -blocked- if you don't already have an account.

2. Once you have an account created, log into your account using the username and pw that you chose.

3. Once you are logged in, you should see a toolbar on the left called "Member Tools". Click on "Site Manager".

4. Now click on "Upload a file".

5. Click on "browse" and find the image that you had previously saved on your computer. Click on the image file, select "open" and then "submit". You now have the file uploaded.

6. At the bottom is a list of all of your uploaded files. Click on the image file that you just uploaded. It should open up in a new -blocked- Copy and paste this image code:

Where it says url.jpg, copy and paste the url of your image and replace that with the url.

7. Place the url code wherever you want the image to appear.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How come my image shows up really small on my petpage?
A: If you are using photobucket, your image must have a .jpg or .gif extension or else it will automatically be resized. Re-save the image with a .jpg extension and it will fix that problem.
