Welcome writers new and old! Whether you read the Neopian Times regularly, enjoy writing or simply want the avatar, The Neo Project is here to help.
A new Neopian Times issue is released approximated every week, usually on a Friday. If you are hoping to achieve both avatars anytime soon, now is the opportune time. The NT Star avatar is only given out for publications in every 50th issue and June 24th is the time to beat! If you start writing now and keep at it for the next seven weeks, your chances are much better of being published than if you'd whipped something together at the last minute.
Obviously, writing can be a daunting task--it requires planning, creativity and a lot of time and dedication. But never fear! Our challenges are designed to break down the basic elements of writing an article, comic or story and make them fun, interesting and easy for you to write! By the time you're finished here, you'll have several different ideas and directions to pursue and we'll be here to help you every step of the way.
If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.
You can fix anything but a blank page.
It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.
Dance like there's nobody watching, love like you'll never be hurt, and sing like there's nobody listening.

Day One
Pretend the guild is a big house where everyone lives and co-exists together. Post your excerpt on the guild message boards and use what you know about the other members to feature them as a character in your story. Allow other members to edit and critique your work--pay attention to their suggestions (however silly or serious they may be). You may choose to name people in the guild directly, use characters based on their personalities or make up characters entirely. Your post can also be as short or as long as you like.
*NOTE This challenge is meant to be creative, funny, subjective to the writer, and completely made up--please do not take any offense to your particular role in a story.
As your first attempt at writing, this challenge is supposed to be full of mistakes and, to a degree, somewhat difficult. DON'T PANIC. It's okay if the words don't come easily, or if you don't like what you've written--just write down whatever comes to mind, even if it seems silly or "not very good."
The rest of the challenges will work on fixing all your problem areas, step by step. By the end of the month, writing 3-5 paragraphs will be a breeze, we promise!
Writer's Tip: Learn to take criticism gracefully and constructively--not everyone will like what you write, and that's okay. Use what they give you to improve your work, and forget the rest.
Day Two
Every good story needs characters that are interesting, fun to read about and relatable to the reader. The following questions may help you to get in your character's shoes--you don't have to answer all of them, just write down whatever comes to mind:
1) What are your character's vices/ flaws? It doesn't have to be anything too drastic--maybe they're a compulsive shopper, a chocoholic or an altador cup fanatic.
2) What are your character's pet peeves? Do they use correct grammar? Do they obsess over clean floors?
3) What were they like as a child?
4) Where do they live? What kind of environment are they used to?
5) What is their job/ profession?
6) What are their talents? What are their fears?
7) Physical appearance. How does he/she dress? What sort of physique do they have? Tall, short, skinny, plump?
Jot down several possibilities--you can come up with several characters, if you like. Feel free to write several scenes to help you get in character, or simply discuss your character on the message boards. You might find it helpful t interact/ roleplay with other characters in order to better understand your character's motives--don't be afraid to branch out and get creative!
* Please submit a general description of your character, include as many or as little detail as you like. You may choose to answer all the questions and come up with an in-depth paragraph about your character, or sum them up in a single sentence--it's up to you.
Day Three
Now that you have a character in mind, picture his or her occupation (or make one up) and write a scene about him/her in their daily living. Before you start writing, jot down a list of the basic aspects of the job, any problems that may come up, etc.
If you're having trouble, feel free to pick a neopian character already out there, and write a scene in their shoes.
Article Idea: If this challenge is something you're having fun with, you might keep going and turn it into an article: "A Day In The Life Of..." or "My Life As A..." Talk about the daily grind of a job and how they cope.
Day Four
Think of something on Neopets you know a lot about, enjoy or do well. Gaming, art, shopping, chatting on the message boards--it doesn't have to be flashy or brilliant, just something you're comfortable with.
Come up with an idea for an article involving ten things--ten reasons, ten items, ten tips, "ten ways to enjoy..." or "ten things you need to know about..."
Jot down these ten main points in list form, don't worry about writing the article yet. Post the list on the guild boards and just see where it takes you--if you feel you can elaborate at that point, feel free to continue on. However, all that needs to be submitted to complete the challenge is the list.
Day Five
If you've had a story in mind, now is the time to plan! It's important to break down the essential parts of your story before you begin writing, to have a direction and know what you're writing towards.
So, one way to do this is to write a short synopsis--or summary--of your story before you begin writing. Answer the following:
1. The character's name
2. The character's motivation (what does he/she want abstractly?)
3. The character's goal (what does he/she want concretely?)
4. The character's conflict (what prevents him/her from reaching this goal?)
5. The character's epiphany (what will he/she learn, how will he/she change?
When you have those answered, write a one-sentence summary of the character's storyline. For example, "A mad scientist travels back in time to..."
Writer's Tip: It's okay to make mistakes! Don't worry about getting all the facts right the first time around--if you get stuck, skip it and come back to it later.
Day Six
Write a one-paragraph summary of the character's storyline (under 500 words) describing the story setup, major disasters and an ending. Post it on the guild message boards for feedback.
* This can be as little as five sentences. (One for the setup/ backdrop of the story, three for each disaster and one for the ending.)
If you like, work on a character synopsis for each of the characters in your story, what role they play and how they contribute. Keep in mind their own motivations, goals and conflicts.
Day Seven
Write down 10 adjectives that describe yourself.
Then, without using any of them, write or tell about something that happened in the past that demonstrates one or more of these traits. Show the audience how your actions embodied this quality or fact about yourself, without telling the them what it is.
Day Eight
Congratulations on completing week one of the NT Challenge! Today is the day to catch up on any challenges you may have missed and take a day to regroup.
Now that you have the beginnings of an article, story or short story, you may want to start setting a personal goal of how many words to write each day. Ideally, you'll want to reach a daily goal of 500 words or more. That means in 2-3 days, finishing an article or short story. In a month--if you write consistently--you could finish a complete series.
500 words may seems a little daunting at first, but you can do it! Don't worry about editing out mistakes--just get the important points down and keep the words coming.
Writer's Tip: If you don't like what you've written, you can always edit it later or throw it out. Don't worry if it doesn't come out like you want it to the first time around--it's important to eliminate the bad ideas to get to the good ones.
Day Nine
Pick a character to interview. Come up with a list of creative questions to ask them and do your best to predict how they would respond.
* You may use your own made up character to interview, or use a Neopian character.
Day Ten
Think about what you want your writing to say--what's important to you? What do you believe strongly in? Choose a theme/ "moral of the story" and describe how your characters' actions reflect this theme.
Day Eleven
Pick a Neopian land and find a place that interests you. Then, in 100 words or less, describe that place in detail.
* Consider the five senses: taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight
Day Twelve
Every story surrounds some sort of conflict. Come up with three major conflicts (internal and external) for a short story, a series, a comic or an article and explain how they are resolved.
Article: outline a problem and explain to the reader how this problem can be solved
Short story/series: identify the three major conflicts in the story, and how they all contribute to the climax of the story
Comic: what is a problem/trouble/difficulty you might have in Neopia and how is it solved, in an amusing/ironic way?
Day Thirteen
Search the Neopian Times for a short story/series/article/comic and copy and paste a short excerpt (leave a credit back to the original author) that inspires you, and why.
You may choose to comment about the things that the author does well, the things you would like to improve in your own writing and any questions/struggles you've had with writing so far.
* OPTIONAL: Neomail your comments/questions to the author and post their reply on the boards.
Day Fourteen
Pick your object. (Rock, paintbrush, neopoints, avatars, nail polish, hat, etc.)
Once you have an object in mind, list several problems or complications that may arise through its use/function/existence.
Think of your personal experiences with this item and your feelings towards it.
Come up with a possible storyline involving the object--outline the conflict and resolution and post your ideas for feedback.
Day Fifteen
Another Sunday of rest! Focus on staying dedicated and writing a set amount of words per day--determination and hard work will win out in the end!
Day Sixteen
Using your object from Day Fourteen, come up with a comic idea involved a "before" and "after" scene.
Your object should be used in a way that creates some sort of change. You may choose to write a description of the "before" and "after" panel, or--depending on how inspired you are by this challenge--come up with a creative interpretation. (Meaning: if your comic takes on a different direction, that is completely okay.)
Day Seventeen
What does your appearance say about you? A good description touches on a few key points--something that contributes to the overall theme or message--without simply stating them in list form.
Go back to Challenge Seven and read over the ten words you used to describe yourself. Then, use your description to convey these qualities.
Show the reader what you mean, without simply telling them what these qualities are. Your description should be in narrative form--like you are seeing yourself from a distance, as a stranger.
Day Eighteen
Browse all the challenges and submissions posted here so far and pick one from another member that you feel you can contribute to--describe what you liked, what you feel could be improved, and any other comments/suggestions that may be helpful.
Day Nineteen
Write at least ten lines of dialogue between two or more characters. Use what they are saying to communicate information about their personalities and what's happening between them. What does the dialogue reveal about each character?
Day Twenty
By this time, you should have a few ideas and bits of writing that could be used for an article, short story, comic or series. Pick your best idea and stick with it--sit down and write without interruption, and don't stop until you have at least 500 words written down.
*If you struggle with this challenge or find it too difficult to complete, write down what you feel frustrated with, what you think your story/article is lacking, etc. and share it on the guild boards.
Day Twenty One
What's something that you feel very strongly/passionately about? Think about something that inspires, frustrates, saddens or interests you and outline several key points. Or something completely random--it's up to you. However, please do your best to translate this topic to a Neopets-related realm.
The purpose of this challenge is to persuade the audience to agree with your viewpoint--do your best to support your argument, even if it's totally ridiculous!
Maybe you need a little inspiration?
Day Twenty Two
As always, Sundays are a day off from challenges. Write whatever you feel like writing today, or take a break!
Day Twenty Three
For the last week of the NT challenge, your task is to complete an article, short story or several parts of a series.
Count how many words you write each day. You may choose to post your writing on the guild boards, save them on a petpage or simply neomail the number of words you've written to me (sunny_forever).
The person who writes the most will receive the most points and the win.
Day Twenty Four
Count how many words you write each day. You may choose to post your writing on the guild boards, save them on a petpage or simply neomail the number of words you've written to me (sunny_forever).
Day Twenty Five
Count how many words you write each day. You may choose to post your writing on the guild boards, save them on a petpage or simply neomail the number of words you've written to me (sunny_forever).
Day Twenty Six
Count how many words you write each day. You may choose to post your writing on the guild boards, save them on a petpage or simply neomail the number of words you've written to me (sunny_forever).
Day Twenty Seven

Day Twenty Eight
Count how many words you write each day. You may choose to post your writing on the guild boards, save them on a petpage or simply neomail the number of words you've written to me (sunny_forever).
Day Twenty Nine
No challenge on Sundays! Take this time to catch up on any writing challenges you've missed!
Day Thirty
Pick your least favorite challenge and explain why you didn't like it. List any improvements for the future Writing Challenge and includes any/all comments.
Day Thirty One
No challenge for today! Work on honing your best piece of writing this month--submit it to the NT once it's finished!
* You may want to wait until a later date to submit, if you're working towards the 50th issue avatar. c;
Day One
| Sunny | Heather |
I slumped back in my office chair, sneakers propped on the mahogany desk, sipping a strawberry banana smoothie. Claire swept through the double glass doors, heels clicking on the marble flooring, then stopped cold at the squishing noise that came from underneath her shoe. Oh, ew," she wrinkled her nose, lifting her foot and peering underneath, to spot the glob of bubblegum stuck to her new strappy heels. "Sunny, honestly. Don't you think it's time you started organizing this place?" I peered around the room. Post-it notes lined the walls, tacked wherever was handy, a stack of applications spilled over the inbox and stray papers and uncapped pens littered what free space was left. Several books, including the lastest copy of "So You Think You Want To Be A Guild Leader," lay open across my desk. What's wrong with it?" I said, digging through a drawer for a Kleenex. A handful of pens and paperclips tumbled to the floor. She took the tissue I held out and scraped off the gum in disgust, tossing it into an overflowing trashcan. Anyway, your eight o'clock is here." She handed me a few folders, cast the file cabinet--brand new, never used--a pointed look on her way out. I shut the book, picked up the folders and followed her down the hallway. Engraved nameplates of each staff member flashed on my way by, until I reached the conference room at the end. Claire, Ally and Heather were all seated, sipping morning coffee. At the far end sat our newest new applicant, a young girl in a simple yellow dress. Good morning, Cassie" I said, glancing down at the file. I sat in one of the big, cushioned chairs and folded my hands on the table. So, tell us about yourself. |
I opened the door to my room and saw that the mailbox hanging on the front of my door had new slips of paper sticking out the top. Papers in hand, I headed down the hallway of our house. Good morning Claire," I said seeing her frantically hitting the buttons of an arcade game in the gaming room. Hi Heather. Only 10,000 more to go and that trophy is mine," Claire replied, careful to not look up from her game. Way to go! I'll meet you later for a game of Key Quest," I responded. Continuing down the hallway, I passed Laurell's room and saw that she was introducing some petpets to Liv to see which one she'd like to have for her own. I love the one on the right," I called as I continued down the hall. Reaching the kitchen, I poured a glass of milk and saw Space sitting at the table with a pile of paper, markers, and other assorted supplies. Awesome new fonts Space," I said, leaving the kitchen and continuing down the hallway with the papers I'd grabbed from my mailbox in my pocket. Finally, I arrived at the backdoor of our house, turned the handle, and entered our back yard. I walked down a dirt path, surrounded by vibrant green trees, and arrived at the Wishing Well. Taking the papers from my mailbox out of my pocket, I dropped them into the Well, knowing that the TNP Wishing Faerie would look them over later. I turned and headed back down the path and back into the house. The newest applicant will be here any minute," Sunny called as soon as she saw me walk through the door. Never a dull moment here," I thought to myself with a smile on my face. |

A young lenny shuffled out of her neohome, a pack slung across her back. She hurried down to the docks of Roo Island, eager to get to the mainland. As Neopia Central came into sight, she started getting anxious. She was the first one off the boat, and she plunged into the throng of pets and petpets gawking about. Some had never seen the place before; others were there about their weekly shopping. The lenny ignored them all. She headed straight for the big building. The halloween lenny stepped inside under a large sign that read 'GUILD HEADQUARTERS'. As the lenny raced for the house where her guild was and stepped into the bright room. Purple-and-orange striped paper decorated the walls. A variety of doors with fancily-lettered signs on them were scattered throughout the hall. A mutant kacheek pushed her way out of a door just in front of the lenny. Kitty!" The kacheek exclaimed. "Good to see you! We haven't talked in a while. I know, Tiff." Kitty replied apologetically. "But I'm in a rush. And then the lenny was off again. She turned into a room on her left. Inside, Ally was talking to Laurell and Heather. The MSPP's hands waved wildly as she explained something to the shadow krawk and white gruslen in front of her. Kitty just passed them by and opened yet another door that was marked "MEMBER OFFICE". There she collapsed into a chair and slipped off her pack. As she shuffled through the papers inside, someone peeked into the room. Hey Kitty, working on your portfolio?" A friendly voice inquired. I definitely need to update it, Claire." The lenny replied with a smile at the blue usul. "You staff members are lucky you have your own offices. I like the common office area!" Claire protested, waving her hand around at the room. It was very tidy and neutral, black chairs with grey tables and cabinets. "Besides, it's a lot cleaner than my office. At that Kitty had to laugh. Claire left with a smile as the lenny turned to work on her portfolio. |
From afar the building looked deserted, bricks crumbled as it loomed over the grounds that surrounded it, intimidating all those who had yet to step inside. You hesitate with your hand raised to knock the door, considering turning back without letting anyone know that you're here, but then the choice is swiftly taken from you as the door is flung open and you come face to face with a pair of wide eyes, and a slightly manic looking girl. Heyyy! You must be the new member right? I'm Claire! So how did you find us? Is that your portfolio?" She indicates the folder you're clutching in your hands. You open your mouth to reply but before you can get a word out she resumed talking. "Well we must show you around, there's so much to see! She carries on rambling without pausing to take a breath and you follow her silently, taking in your surroundings. As you pass a large window at the back of the house you notice the garden, which is empty apart from one tree sat firmly in the middle. A tree with people hiding in the leaves? Claire pauses long enough to notice the direction you're looking. Oh don't mind them, that's just The Lurker Tree, they'll pop in later and you can meet them then. Anyway- Claire was cut off from saying further when another voice greets you from a nearby doorway. I can take it from here Claire, go back to your games." Claire hesitates for a second before giving you a quick wave and running off up the stairs. "I'm Ally, it's good to meet you. Don't mind Claire, she gets a little uh... hyper, when she's had too much caffeine, she'll appear more normal later." You were about to respond before being cut off by yet another voice as someone else joins the pair of you. Claire never appears normal, but she may be slightly easier to understand when she calms down and stops obsessing over those games. I'm Laurell by the way. You heading to meet Sunny? You glance at Ally for confirmation, you really had no clue where you were off to, but seem to recall hearing Claire mention something about a Sunny, so that was probably right. Together you walk over to a large door covered in post-it notes and various little doodles, you tilt your head to one side trying to understand the mad scribbles but can't seem to make any sense of it, before you can give it any more thought Ally nudges you towards the door. After you," She gestures to the door and you open it, eyes widening in surprise at what you see inside. |

15 minutes ago, I was getting butterflies as I stood in front of TNP House. 15 minutes later... I was locked inside a closet. Do you really want to know how it happened? The residence I was standing in front of was nothing short of SPECTACULAR--but let's get straight to the point. Who knew a place three stories high, with a bright yellow facade and a beautifully paved walkway would be a /house of horrors/. Maybe I'm exaggerating... but you decide for yourself. Just as I'm about to knock on the door, it opens. This girl with orange and brown glasses introduces herself excitedly before showing me off to my room upstairs. So far, so good. Everything's going smoothly. That is... until I step on something sharp and basically leap 2 feet in the air, holding my left foot in agony. This sock, this FLYING SOCK, I kid you not, has decided that raining objects from the sky is the order of the day. Appearing by my side suddenly as I try to take cover is a different girl with an umbrella. Only... she can't keep it still, as if she's under some curse that has her constantly flailing. I duck as she's about to hit me with the umbrella, which leads to a box of beads flying out of the hands of another person who just walked in around the corner. Let me tell you, hopping on one foot with beads all over the floor does not lead to happy endings. I found myself falling down a flight of stairs, the colors of pure madness flashing before my sight, and then... darkness. No, actually... I wish it was darkness. These tiny, beady eyes were staring at me, straight into my soul, unblinking. My heart quickens a pace as voices filter through the crack in the door. I've just locked my closet up! We can leave for dinner now! You know no one's going to steal your usuki dolls right? Well, what about my full costume? Oookay... What have I got myself into? |
The small cottage lay right in front of my eyes, its light blue shutters and bright yellow front door making everything around it seem more alive and friendly. A perfect garden was off to my left, a collection of assorted vegetables lined up in neat little rows, whilst on my right was a sparkling blue pond. Rose!" I smiled warmly at a Poogle who was dangling her legs in the pond, reading what looked like the last Harry Potter for the thousandth time. She barely even glanced up at me from her book, which was no surprise. I continued on up the stone pathway that lead to the front door, and just as I was about to place my hand on the doorknob, out came a Draik who was most certainly in a rush. Hey Laurell!" I called as she sprinted off around the corner, waving briefly at me as she disappeared in a blur of colours. Sighing, I entered through the open door, immediately greeted by the sweet smell of freashly baked cookies. I walked down the hall, peeking inside each room as I went past it. Sunny was busy at her desk, no doubt creating some amazing masterpiece again, as usual. I decided not to bother her, and proceeded to the next door. On it, in beautiful handwriting, read the name SPACE. I opened the door ajar, only to find Space also at her desk, with it equally as cluttered. Nice new fonts, Space," I whispered before shutting the door after me. I entered the kitchen slowly, for it was absolutely covered in flour, and chocolate chips were scattered all over the wooden floor. A Cybunny stood behind the counter inspecting a batch of perfectly golden cookies — flour was smudged all over her face and her baking apron was smeared with cookie dough. Tiff! Would you like to try a cookie?" she asked, smiling brightly and holding out the tray to me. Thanks, Kitty," I said, taking one cautiously. I took a bite, my teeth sinking into the warm cookie, and grinned. "They are amazing! Kitty seemed pleased, and set to work on another batch, mumbling all the time about how much butter to use, how long to bake them for ... Ah, Heather!" I ran outside towards a Gnorbu who was lounging beneath the sun, a tropical smoothie in one hand. "How was your day? |
Day Two
| Soleil - Sunny | Sparks - Kitty |
Cautious, fearful. After being kicked out of the Neopian Orphanage, she is forced to constantly worry about life's basic necessities--food, clothing and shelter. Likes to have coffee in the morning (cheapest thing on the menu). Outstanding taste for food--has a creative flair for flavor combinations. Fears failure. Tallish, slender, pretty. |
Youngest in her family. Intelligent, but slow. Extremely entergetic and incredibly kind. Trusts easily, occasionally rebellious. Dislikes being spoken down to, despises unfairness. Outdoorsy, often played from dawn to sunset on the beaches and forests of Roo Island. Comes from a small family setting with regularity, rules, and a constant schedual. She would probably learn to cope well with a different environment over time. Spends her days wandering neopia with Drea, her best friend. Sometimes she is also accompanied by some of her older cousins Lily and Hissa. Incredible imagination, spends the majority of her time dreaming up stories and games for herself and Drea. Her other major skill is her intelligence--she's hard to fool and yet at the same time refuses to be turned cold by the world. Her fears are few, but also powerful. She fears that she will one day put her trust in the wrong person. She fears and stresses over friends who she has grown away from, or friends who she is close to who she fears will someday leave her. Beautiful in a subtle, exotic sort of way, though she denies it herself. She has a heart-shaped face, wide angular eyes, a button nose and full lips. In height she is 5'3", average for her age, and has a slender build. Her skin is soft lavender, her eyes dark. Her hair is long and wild, a rich shade of purple that matches the designs on her wings. She cannot fly fast or for long periods of time; her wings are not fully developed yet. Prefers to wear red or black and almost always has her hair put up under a cap. She doesn't like long dresses or make-up, and dislikes the color pink. |
| Liv - Laurell | Deleroe - Tiff |
Daydreams often, can be rather flakey. She lives in her imagination, rather than in reality. She was close with her mother and very inventive, always pretending to explore the world on some grand adventure. Her story takes place in an almost, but not quite, medieval-esque town where she owns a small shop. A few miles away from the town is a small apple orchard that was passed down to her when her mother passed away. Several workers she's known since birth are employed there. The orchard is where she lives and feels most at home. She runs a small bakery, with all the citizens oogling her specialty, apple pie. Has the uncanny ability of bringing inanimate objects to life, such as her chocolate creations or the leaves of her apple trees. She hasn't yet formed any concrete fears, but that soon changes when someone makes a fateful visit to the orchard that sends her spiraling on that adventure she's always been searching for... Of course, adventures aren't always what they're cracked up to be. With an average height and build, she has a full face that's usually wearing a dreamy, far-off look and framed with mid-length brown curls.
Her eye color is a dark teal, though rather unremarkable. |
She's obsessed with all things colourful--especially rainbows. Often rather quiet and doesn't like to speak in front of crowds. Cannot stand rude and irresponsible people, for she is the complete opposite, and wishes everyone would be like her: quiet, independant and very patient. She also dislikes it when people speak out of turn, or interupt her whilst she's speaking. As a child, Deleroe always knew she was "different" than the other Gnorbus her age. They all stuck together, played silly games and ran around all day through the meadow, whereas Deleroe was so much quieter and sensible: an angel, her mother used to say. Right now, Deleroe lives in North Meadow, so she can visit her mother regularly. She is definitely most used to a friendly, happy environment, though she knows that there are horrible things out there in the world, and hates that there is. Deleroe is a gardener, for that is exactly what she's always wished to be ever since she was only young. She tends to most plants and flowers in North Meadow, watering and weeding the gardens whenever they need it. She's also more than willing to help out with any odd job any of the other Gnorbu's might need a hand with, and always volunteers for such things. She is an excellent gardener and is pretty amazing at writing, too. She fears death, and that's mostly all. Deleroe is short and rather small for her age, and has very brightly coloured eyes. |
| Cayl - Claire | Smedsrud - Heather |
Arrogance is most certainly his greatest flaw and has almost been his downfall on more than one occasion. He dislikes anything dirty, messy or out of order. He's a very organised person and finds it the best way to go about his life, after all in his line of work disorganisation can be fatal, and gets incredibly irritated when put in to a situation where things are not organised how he would like. He was incredibly petulant as a child, a trait that has remained with him well in to adult-hood. He travels around a lot due to his profession, however whenever he needs a place to stay he favours small rooms on the ground floor, so that he can make a hasty exit if necessary. Also quick access to where ever his car is parked is always a must. He cares very little about the décor as long as the room is clean. He is a sorcerer and assassin and is often hired to take out other magic users. He occasionally takes on more legal jobs translating ancient magical texts and enchanting objects, but these have become fewer and fewer as word about his fighting skills has spread. His greatest skill is his solo battling ability, there are very few people who can win a fair fight against him. Unfortunately very few people fight fairly against him, but he's usually quick thinking enough to work around that. His greatest fear is being caught by The Council, a group of Sorcerers that attempt to maintain order in the magical world, though often fail at it. His fear doesn't come from them beating him and taking him in to custody, but the fact that he used to be a part of that very organisation and doesn't wish to have to battle those who once fought alongside him. At just under 5'2" he is seen as being incredibly short, but this often gives him an advantage, not only do many of his opponents underestimate him, it has also allowed him to incorporate different gymnastic moves in to his fighting style which gives him an added element of surprise which is often enough to give him the upper hand in a tricky situation. He is fairly skinny, but his muscles are well toned from daily workouts, he can't afford to slack when it comes to his fitness. He often wears fairly tight clothes with no accessories, loose materials can get in the way at the most awkward moments when fighting. However his clothes are loose enough that he can hide several weapons underneath them. His hair is long, going down to his lower back, and is kept loosely tied back. |
Smedsrud is a perfectionist and will re-do something over and over until it's "just right." She can also be impatient and emotional at times. Her pet peeves include bad grammar, rudeness, people who don't seem to listen, and having long nails. Smedsrud was like a little adult when she was a child. She was always mature and "grown-up" for her age. She had impeccable manners along with a desire to lead and be the best at everything she did. Smedsrud lives in a little woodland cottage in the middle of the woods. She enjoys the solitude that the woods offer while still being close enough to the city to be near others when she desires. Smedsrud is a designer and author. Her primary job is designing jewelry, but she's also an author, writing and publishing books in her spare time as more of a hobby than a profession. Smedsrud is talented at nearly everything she sets out to accomplish, because she gives everything 100% being the perfectionist that she is. However, she's especially talented at designing items for her line, writing, and interacting with animals. Smedsrud is fearful of not meeting or exceeding her own standards. She's also afraid of bugs, snakes, enclosed spaces, and heights. Smedsrud is delicate with very feminine, dainty features. She's white in color with brown eyes and a hair color that changes with her mood - varying from red to brown. She wears beautiful dresses to compliment her hair color.

Day Three

Doctor, I think you should come take a look at this," I whispered urgently, drawing the curtains shut behind me.
After ten years as a nurse, I though I'd seen just about everything everything. Jitters that would make your teeth clack, Grumbles that
could shake the earth and Neomites so bad, they made /my/ fur itch. But this...this was just something else.
The doctor looked up from a short, stubby-looking Kau, her belly round and protruding from a bad case of bloating.
"Be with you in a minute, nurse." He scribbled something on a clipboard, handing the lady a prescription of flat-u-less tablets.
Behind me, my patient groaned and let out something of a strangled cough.
"Doctor," I pleaded, glancing back at the curtain.
"Take those twice a day." He reminded the woman, rising to see her out. "Four stomachs is a lot for one tablet to handle. |
The sun was slowly rising over the mountains, and the sky was so far positively cloudless; a perfect day for gardening. Deleroe was up
early, as always, preparing her work tools for the day--a watering can, various plant seeds, and several different sized spades. She wore a
wide-brimmed hat and all her tools were slotted in to their labelled places on her toolbelt. Smiling widely, she set off for another
enjoyable day at work.
"Morning, Deleroe," her boss greeted her at the shed, where all employees were to meet before bein assigned their days' work. "Hm, let's see
..." the old Gnorbu scratched his balding head, peering down at a piece of paper intently. "Today I'd like you to work on the sunflowers
just outside the entrance into North Meadow, alright?"
Deleroe nodded, grabbing her usual pair of green gardening gloves from a shelf in the shed and pulling them on. She nodded politely at the
Gnorbu and strolled over towards the entrance to North Meadow, stopping briefly to pick a lone dandelion: she blew on it softly, and watched
as it floated off into the air, carried by the gentle Spring breeze. Spring was Deleroe's favourite time of year--though in North Meadow
flowers and plants of all types grew all year round, in Spring they grew best. More brighter and bigger, and anyone could tell that.

The door swung open for the 100th time that morning and Cayl allowed his glance to briefly flick up from his vantage point before looking
back at his coffee. He'd been sat in the coffee shop for the better part of three hours now waiting for his mark to show up.
There was only so much caffeine he could drink before he started getting jittery so he'd been making the one cup last those three hours and
it was now totally unappealing to him. If his mark didn't show up soon he was going to have to vacate the coffee shop, he'd already noticed
a few pointed glances from the staff here, and try again another day.
The bell over the door rang again and his eyes swept up once more, only this time they stayed locked on the newcomer for a fraction longer,
before casually looking around the room once more.
He was here, and it was time to get to work. |
8am, the alarm blares it's obnoxious screech only inches away from my head. The sun peeks through the tan curtains that cover the window of my bedroom. Yawning and stretching my arms above my head, I swing my legs over the side of the bed, walk across the room, and pull the curtains to the side to allow the sun to fill the room. So much to do today. No time to be lazy this morning.
I open my closet, choosing the deep autumn-colored dress with its beautiful yellow, brown, and orange. It's my favorite dress, complimenting my short, sassy red hair so nicely. Out of bed, check. Dressed, check.
Leaving my bedroom, I walk down the spiral stairway to my workshop below. The best part of being a designer and author? I work at home. Two years ago, when my designs really took off, I decided to open my own shop in the basement of my own home. Convenient to say the least.
Switching the blaring red sign on the front door from closed to open, I walk over to my desk and look over what I need to get done for the day. Checking my inbox, I come across a message from my supplier saying that my shipment is backordered and will arrive a week late. Tossing a notebook across the room in frustration, I sigh out of desperation, and head over to my work area.
Looking over the trays and trays of beads and various other jewelry supplies, I close my eyes and begin to envision the perfect design. A few seconds later, I open them and start to lay out a design on the tray in front of me. A few minutes later, something just isn't right. While it may look great to everyone else, I just know it isn't perfect yet. Tearing it all apart, I start from scratch in hopes of a better result the second time around. After putting together the second attempt at the perfect design, I still don't love it. What is wrong with it? Switching a few beads around, a smile spreads across the length of my face. This is it - perfection.
Several hours later, I decide to close up shop. Switching the sign on the front door of my shop back to closed with a note of when I'll return, I head back up the spiral staircase and to the kitchen to warm up some leftovers. Pulling a notebook and pencil out of my bag, I continue to work on writing my latest novel while I eat my warmed over dinner. On top of being a jewelry designer, I'm a best-selling author as more of a hobby than a profession. I've been working on my latest novel for months now, writing and re-writing until every last sentence is absolute perfection.
Finally, I head back into the bedroom where I began my day. Placing my autumn-colored dress in the hamper, I change into my babaa pajamas. Drawing the tan curtain closed once again, I crawl under the warm covers of my bed and close my eyes, knowing that I'll do it all again tomorrow.

I was having one of those dreams--you know, the kind where you know you're dreaming but you don't try to wake up.
I was flying, and I mean flying. Not like I really fly, gliding over lakes and ponds with Drea. I was full-on moving my wings, pushing myself through the air in a way I knew I would never be able to actually do anytime soon. Not only was I really flying, I was going fast and gaining altitude quickly.
I was flying towards the sun. Only when I glanced up at it did I realize that I wasn't actually trying to fly to the sun--my goal was much closer and to the side. I couldn't quite make out what it was, but I did see the outline in the air. It looked like...a city.
Out of nowhere a gust of wind siezed me and started throwing me around violently. I tossed and turned miserably, then my eyes flashed open.
In a second I'd jumped out of bed into a crouch on the foor, making sure I was really awake, that it really had been a dream, that I was myself still.
Sparks?" The warm, familiar voice sounded scared.
Sorry Drea." I eased up from my crouch and peeked at my brother. His hazel eyes were wide, his paw still outstretched where he'd been shaking me awake. I'd been told I was a deep sleeper, and this was the more dignified way of waking me. On days when she was fed up, Kitty would simply yank away the sheets and flick on the light before stalking out. It was those days that I knew to control my usual snarky tone.
I felt an arm around my shoulders, jolting me to the present. "It's okay." Drea said. I could tell just by his voice that he was smiling. We were like that now, incredibly close, even though it was barely a year since he'd come home with us. I pulled out from under his arm and shooed him out my room so I could change out of my pajamas.
I skipped down the stairs a few minutes later in my black jeans and DC t-shirt. My high ponytail bounced with my skipping. Drea was smiling up at me from the bottom of the staircase.
Kitty says we can go shopping with Hissa today." He announced, his eyes twinkling. I let out a squeal of joy and started hurrying down. I dashed for the door, grabbing his arm and pulling him out behind me.
We half-ran, half-flew down to the docks. Drea simply tossed the wocky behind the both a few shiny neopoints and jumped in. I followed. The poogle manning the boat started rowing us away from our lovely little island. We didn't talk much on the way to the mainland; we hardly ever do. Mostly Drea and I just sit and watch the morning sun and the water.
As soon as we bumped on the shores Drea jumped out again, towing me behind him. We hurried through the crowds to our usual meeting spot, the rainbow pool. As Hissa came into sight, his camoflauge fur touseled, I spotted a shadow by the side of the pool. By this time Drea's hold on my arm had lessened, and as he sprinted to catch up to Hissa, I slipped away in the direction of the shadow, the shadow that would end up changing everything I knew...

Ten tips for beautiful coding
1) Organization; If it's not neat and organized it looks sloppy. 2) Easy to acess; Make it easier to use for the person using the coding and whoever looks at it. 3) Easy to read; Make your fonts easy to read and don't clash colors, it strains people's eyes and makes them want to close the -blocked- 4) Clean coding; make your coding clean. Don't have five different headers if you only need two. Delete things if they aren't necessary to the rest of the layout. 5) Have graphics; Even if you just have places for neopets images, a few well-chosen pictures can make a difference. 6) Keep track of filter changes; if the filters get changed re-code what you have. 7) Be original; try designing things in a way you haven't seen before. Being creative and different is what people want in coding. 8) Contrast; Headers of different colors that go from left to right can be really appealing. Although it's not a good idea to have bright color contrasts, try contrasts in alignment. 9) Have a color scheme; Don't just throw whatever color you want on your layout, create a color scheme. Three to six colors is a good number to have. 10) Make sure it's all-acessable; You or your friends should always check your layouts in different browsers, because some browsers show layouts a lot differently (ESPECIALLY IE). |
Ten Tips to Creating the Perfect Look For Your Pet
1. Brainstorm the look Before doing anything else, think about what message you want your pet to send through their look. Is your pet a warrior, princess, bookworm, farmer, etc.? Your pet's customization should reflect their personality. 2. Choose the method(s) Do you want to use neocash items, neopoint items, paint brush clothes, or a combination of those? You'll save yourself time later by deciding that up front. 3. Research items Find items within your chosen method(s) that reflect the message you're trying to convey through your customization. For example, if your pet is warrior, find all the wearable swords. 4. Eliminate items Immediately eliminate the items that you don't like. Even if your pet is a princess, if you really don't like the dress, eliminate it now. 5. Research values Before getting too attached to a choice, research the value. You may love the item, but if it costs 1 million neopoints, you may not be willing to spend that much for a single piece of the total look. As you do this, eliminate all the items that are too valuable for what you're willing to spend. 6. Ask opinions If you're stuck and unable to decide between items, ask opinions. For example, if you can't decide which background works best for your bookworm, ask a neofriend or turn to the neoboards and ask for opinions. 7. Finalize your choices It's time to finalize your choices for your pet's customization. Choose the specific items you're going to use. 8. Gather the items Purchase all the items you need for your pet's customization. If you don't have enough neopoints yet, figure out how much you need and start saving. 9. Put it all together Now that you've finalized your choices and gathered all the items you need, it's time to put it all together on your pet. 10. Take a step back Check out the look you've created for your pet. Does it send the message you set out to send? Does your princess look like a princess or does she look more like a warrior? If the look matches the message, well done. If not, you can either adjust your pet's personality to match the new look or else start back at step one. |

10 Ways to Flail
1. There's the basic flail, which is the easiest type of flail to perform, and can be mastered by anyoneee, even those who have never flailed before. 2. The intermediate flail, which entails a little practice, and a little more technique. 3. The master flail, which can only be done by the greatest of flailers. Few have yet to reach this level of flail. 4. The certified flail, which is basically any type of flail, except you went to some classes (Flail History, Flail the Conqueror, Flail 201, etc) to get your Flail Certificate. 5. The flail with a coconut. 6. The ninja flail. "Right now. She's flailing. You just don't know it." 7. The epic flail, commonly confused with epic fail, though many agree both are rather similar. 8. The jump and flail, which gets the most attention, reveals the most angst and frustration, and also is commonly used in dance competitions. 9. The haiku and flail Which is a strange thing indeed People tend to stare. 10. The flail of doom, which is catastrophic. It infects all those in the vicinity like a sort of contagious virus, forcing them to flail one at a time in the creation of a sort of flail-wave. *flails* |
Ten Tips for Creating Your Pets Character
1. Plan. Just make a list of simple key notes; things like "evil", "Haunted Woods", "super powers", etc. to give you a rough idea of what your character will be like. Also listing their likes and dislikes can help a lot, too. 2. Rough draft. It's always good to just do a really rough copy (no adjectives or anything) of what your character is like--quite a lot of people do the name/alias/age/ family /likes/dislikes kind of think, which can be useful. 3. Think about their past. What were they like when they were younger? You don't need to put all about their past on their character page or anything, but once you have the past sorted out, it's usually so much easier to go from there. 4. Sketch them. Even if you're a terrible artist like me, sketching your pet out so you know what they look like will help you a lot when it comes to describing them. You don't have to show anyone your sketch, of course, it's just there to help you! 5. Start getting deeper. Let's say you have decided it would be cool if your pets had superpowers; don't just say, "oh, yeah, she can fly!", because that sounds silly. It's perfectly fine if your pet can fly, but was he/she born with the ability? Or how did they become able to fly? All these details are important! Make sure you are detailed. 6. Details, details, details! You need to begin to list things like their occupation, where they live, a paragraph about their personality, and so forth. So really, you need to start getting more personal, I suppose. 7. What they are currently doing. It's rather boring if your pet has a super happy life, no problems, everything's fine--it just doesn't make for an intereting storyline or character. Have you ever read a book where there's aboslutely no problem at all? Most likely not. Perhaps your pet is on a super secret mission, they have to run their very own kingdom all alone, or they are on the run. Let your imagination go wild! 8. This tip is sort of an extension from the above--start planning your story for your pet. Start with keywords, then get detailed, and finally even more detailed, until you end up with something that will make an interesting story. 9. Be unique! Often you see lots of character that are, more or less, similar. You should know whether your idea is cliché or not. ;D 10. Finally, you will begin writing everything out, for the final copy. Make your writing descriptive and detailed, so it will be much more interesting to read. With everything you have planned, you should be able to end up with something amazing! And remember: your idea may not come so easily. Just start writing down keywords, and don't be afraid to experiment. C: |

Deleroe will have to find some way to get to Faerieland (to hopefully become Fyora's very own gardener), and because she's not a Faerie, it will be quite hard--how else do you get to Faerieland? And then when she finally does find a way, with the help of a few other Neopets, unfortunately they refuse to let her in to Faerieland. So she must then find a way to sneak in, and considering the amount of guards Fyora ordered to make sure no-one managed to get in (she'd been extra careful since the whole turned-to-stone thing), it will be even harder. In the end, though, she will eventually find a way to get in. But then she still needs to achieve what she went there for ...

Together, they storm the kingdom by night. After an intense duel between Ezulla and her sister, Ezulla overthrows her, and takes her place as the new ruler.

My story is set in faerieland. A faerie named Soleil "ages out" of the orphanage and is forced to live on her own--she takes up residence in an old abandoned house and gets a job at a local restaurant (which has notoriously bad food and is in need of a good chef). She helps get the restaurant back on its feet and as its popularity grows, also gains the envy of a fellow coworker, who then tries to sabotage her. Said coworker discovers her precarious living quarters--blackmails her--and exposes this fact publicly. The ending is still in progress.

Patient, caring, funny, snappy, fragile, crazy, obsessive, delusional, unique, leader, friendly.
Okay so imma take something that happened in real life this Thursday. This girl asked me to get water with her in PE and she started crying because she felt /really/ sick but knew her parents would be mad if she called to go home. Now, I don't even like this girl, but I hate seeing people cry. I advised her to just tell our PE teacher and go home. She said that our teacher didn't care and probably wouldn't let her go (which is absolutely true, but that's another story). But luckily, our principle was out there with our PE teacher and I knew she would listen. So the girl got to go home and everything was okay. (: |

On the Neocash boards on day, I ran across someone who was desperately seeking a Tower Princess Wig. The wig is buyable in the Mall for 150 NC, but the person had never bought NC before and was unable to buy any in the future. They had an entire customization planned out for their as well as a personality and the wig was the missing piece of it all. The person created a board on the NC boards offering to trade one of the free NC items she'd collected over the past while for the wig. Sadly, most people weren't very nice to her. I noticed that I had a few extra wigs and a box to be able to send one, so I neomailed her and offered to gift her a wig if she'd like. She excitedly accepted and couldn't seem to thank me enough. It was a great experience to know that someone seemingly small for me really made a big impact for someone else. |

Hard working, goal-oriented, serious/focused, perfectionistic, anxious, cheap, self conscious, emotional/ sensitive, determined, trusting.
I'd spent countless hours running in the dark, frigid mornings and the sweaty summer days. Struggled through the mud and rain and boundless hills. I'd washed my share of bloody socks and soggy running gear, spent long, exhausted hours soaking in ice-filled bathtubs. But nothing I'd trained in had prepared me for the complete fatigue of running the past 24 miles--or the two I still had left to go. My watch blinked over five hours' time, but for all I knew it could have been days. My body and mind seemed to be in a total disconnect--theoretically, walking should have brought some sort of relief. But it didn't seem to matter--running, walking, crawling or otherwise, the aching numbness persisted. I slowed to a crooked hobble to grab dual cups of water and Gatorade, careful not to choke it back in one gulp. As I jogged tenderly past the station, a crew of men pulled out another mile marker. When the 26 mile marker came into view, I could have cried. Whether it was for the miles I'd ran, or the ones I had left to go, I'll never be sure. My team came running out to meet me and cheer me to the finish. ."Where's the finish line?" was all I could huff out. "How much farther?" No one answered, busy laughing and talking in the excited buzz of post-run endorphins. My shoes beat into the pavement. Out of pure and primal instinct, I could have strangled the closest person for an answer. How much farther could .2 miles /be/? And then, there is was. A big banner of hope, flapping in the wind. Surprisingly renewed, I pushed ahead into a sprint, could hear the blood pounding furiously in my ears. With one last deep gasping breath, I flew through the finish. Swaying slightly on trembling legs, I glanced back. It had taken me 6 hours and 22 minutes. But I made it. |
Friendly, crazy, hard-working, patient, creative, intelligent, energetic, loyal, sensitive, caring.
I was alone, waiting silently at the train stop for the train, that was at least forty-five minutes late. I listened to the tap-tap of the rain on the roof of the tin shelter I was huddled beneath, and the water rushing quickly down the gutter. It was dark and cold--my hair was wet and sticking to my face and neck, my wet hair creating little streams of water that ran down my arm. Out of boredom, I tapped aimlessly on the side of the shelter with my finger, creating a loud noise that echoed around me. I tapped my foot on the concrete in an almost nonexistent puddle, which made a tiny splashing sound. This, paired with the rain that was still pounding down, was like my own little nature band: the rain, the tapping, the splashing. It kept me occupied for a few minutes, until finally the blaring lights of the train halted right before me, and the door opened. I smiled foolishly to myself, and gladly boarded the train ... |

Thoughtful. Dreamer. Grounded. Merry. Reserved. Creative. Perfectionist. Inquisitive. Jokester. Fickle.
The world breathes differently during the night. You can hear it. It's more calm, more quiet. That is, until something comes rumbling by, and makes a stop at a bus sign. A girl appears and heads east, more as if through habit than with purpose. Her eyes are locked towards the stars as her feet make their way down the street. The night is perfect and she can't help but smile. Light flecks of snow are falling and the air is nothing more than slightly cool, but she tugs her jacket around her tighter, in case through some strange affliction she can't feel the cold. When she reaches the corner, her eyes stray to the field across, out of reach of the street lamps' light pollution. There's a pause, where she can cross the road towards it, where more bright stars will come out of hiding and outshine any beauty on ground--but she doesn't cross. Instead, she turns the corner and walks on, letting the chance pass by. It's an almost sad decision, but she knows that the next day the same choice will be placed in front of her and that one day, something, some change, will push her into the endless field of stars.

Day Nine
| Heather | Tiff |
Me: What was your reaction when your sister banished you from the kingdom?
Ezulla: I was completely shocked. I didn't know she had it in her to be so ruthless especially to her own sister.
Me: Where did she banish you to?
Ezulla: She sent me to an army camp knowing that I'd be enlisted in the ongoing war and would most likely lose my life.
Me: Can you tell me about your experience in the army camp?
Ezulla: It was grueling. The masters showed no mercy to the new recruits. From the minute you arrived, you were separated into groups based upon the likelihood that you would be successful in the war. I was immediately placed in the lowest ranked group and was not expected to survive the first battle.
Me: What was your reaction to receiving such a low rank?
Ezulla: It only fueled my desire to prove myself to the masters, my sister, my kingdom, and myself. While I admit it would have been easier to hide in the shadows and try to blend in, I fought to stand out. In a matter of weeks, I climbed from the lowest rank to second highest rank.
Me: What happened after you reached the second highest rank?
Ezulla: That's when I decided that I could handle taking back the kingdom. I sought out my sister, but unfortunately lost to her.
Me: A lot of people would have quit at that point. What made you kept going?
Ezulla: My kingdom and my people. They needed me. They needed a ruler that would have their best interests at heart rather than one who sought only her only desires and power. I knew I couldn't give up on them in their darkest hour.
Me: So, what did you do next?
Ezulla: I searched for a secret training ground where I could practice my dueling skills and teach others to fight like warriors. Then, I snuck through the woods by night to find rebels who'd be banished from the kingdom by my sister and recruited them to join my army. We spent several weeks preparing for battle.
Me: What was it like having a secret army?
Ezulla: Challenging. A lot of the recruits were people that the army camp masters would have turned away, seeing them as unfit. I saw them as a challenge and believed in what they offer.
Me: Could you tell me about the battle?
Ezulla: We stormed the kingdom by night when they would be at their weakest. My army fought off my sister's guards while I snuck up to her chambers. I wanted to duel her myself. She was shocked when I opened the door to her room. To this day, I know it was because she never expected to see me again. She was enraged to see me and screamed a confession at me; it was her who caused the devastating event that started the war and made us lose our father. Both of our tempers rose and we fought a long, intense duel. I admit, it was closer than I would have liked, but in the end, I won and claimed the throne.
Me: What was your reaction to finding out that your sister caused the event?
Ezulla: Sorrow. I'd spent months being so angry at her for what she'd done to me, banishing me into the army camp like that. But, at this point, I just felt sorry for her and how broken she had become.
Me: What ended up happening to your sister?
Ezulla: I didn't have it in me to banish her like she'd done to me despite that she deserved it. Instead, I enprisoned her with the hopes that someday my counsel will be able to rehabilitate her.
Me: What if your sister never changes her ways?
Ezulla: Then she'll spend the remainder of her days as my prisoner, but I still will not banish her.
Me: What will become of your kingdom now that your are the ruler?
Ezulla: A time of peace and prosperity.

Interview With Deleroe:
Me: *clears throat* So, your a gardener?
Deleroe: Yes! I've wanted to be one ever since I was only a young Gnorbu, and luckily not many other people were interested in the job, so I got it.
Me: Why did you want to become a gardener?
Deleroe: I think the main reason I wanted to become one is because I simply love nature, and have always wanted to have a job that has to do with being outdoors. I know it sounds corny, but sometimes it's like I have a "connection" with plants ...
Me: What is your goal/ambition in life?
Deleroe: Oh, that's easy! I've always wanted to be Fyora's very own gardener. Have you seen the plants and flowers in Faerieland? They are positively ginormous!
Me: Really? I'll have to have a look next time I visit! Who is your inspiration or who do you look up to?
Deleroe: I think there are a lot of great Gnorbus out there, but my main inspiration would be my mother. She's so hardworking, yet she enjoys life, and that's what I love best about her.
Me: Did you have to do any training to become a gardener?
Deleroe: I had to do a three month course, and I had so much reading to do to learn about all the different types of plants and flowers in Neopia. There is many!
Me: How do you plan to achieve your goal
Deleroe: Firstly I have to find some way to get to Faerieland, since you pretty much /have/ to be a Faerie to even get there in the first place. But once I've figured that out, I guess I'll just go with the flow, maybe try and make myself more well-known. I don't want to rush into things. I might open my own stall (I'm quite good at creating natural medicines and all that with plants) for a bit to get some money, too.
Me: Alright, thank you for your time! |
| Kitty | Sunny |
&&What is your biggest goal in life?
Right now my biggest goal is to work hard at being a good sister to Drea, Cheik and even Tria, and to keep out of trouble.
&&Who do you wish you knew better?
I wish I knew Tria better. She's my only sister, but I don't feel like I know her at all. I feel like we should be close, the only girls in Kitty's family, but we constantly fight and disagree with each other.
&&How is your family--do you like them, argue a lot, what?
Kitty is the head of the family and keeps us from falling apart, destroying the house, or drowning in the sea, but she usually isn't around very much. Cheik is the one who supervises me and Drea (unless he's working). Tria stays in her room or in bed and doesn't really talk to us. Drea is the family member I'm closest to; we're almost always together, whether working, playing, or even just walking. I'm also very close to our cousins, who come over often.
&&What do you like to do?
My favorite thing to do is explore. I love flying beside the ocean or running down the beach. Me and Drea look around the forest a lot too, but only when Cheik is with us; Kitty insists it's dangerous.
&&What are you scared of?
I'm most scared of (and don't tell him this) Drea leaving our family. He was adopted and sometimes I can tell he's thinking about something else, maybe someplace else. I don't think he'd want to return to the pound, but he was such close friends with the girl there, Jessica... or if he wants to go to a newer, better home..
&&What are you passionate about?
I love to fly. Flying is what I do every day, what I think about in the quiet moments, what I dream about at night. Ever since Kitty painted me, me and Drea have flown all the time.

My interview with my character, Soleil
Me: Tell me about your childhood. Soleil: Well...I was raised an orphan, at the Faerieland orphanage. I spent most of my time working in the kitchen, preparing meals. Me: Tell me about your passion for cooking. Soleil: I've always seemed to have a real taste for food--knowing which ingredients to add, what really makes a dish stand out. I had an excellent teacher. Me: What is your biggest fear, now that you're on your own? Soleil: Mostly, I'm afraid that I won't be able to earn a living cooking. It's a low-end job and I don't have any work experience outside of the orphanage. I want people to like my food, and I want to be a successful chef. Me: What are your dreams for the future? Soleil: I want to open my own restaurant someday--something upscale, with great service and local ingredients. Me: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Soleil: I wish I hadn't wasted so much time, feeling unsure of myself. You can't have any reservations in this career--you've got to believe in yourself and your ability, and not be afraid to take chances. |

Rita, with as much pride as posh, looked into her reflection in the glass of a small shop off the beaten track. The face of a very young aisha looked back at her, full of dignity. She fixed the collar of her white shirt and stretched out her back so she was standing perfectly straight before she walking into The Reading Corner. She was a reporter of the school newspaper, and she was going to get the best interview of year. Now if only the shop looked less dingy...
Upon noticing that no one was behind the counter, Rita made a somewhat obvious ahem like she was should have been greeted at the door. A yellow kacheek popped his head out from behind one of the narrow aisles with a sheepish look.
ˮOh... hi! I wasn't expecting you till later...ˮ
ˮYou said 4 o'clock. Well... after school,ˮ she added reluctantly, noting his confusion.
ˮOkay, well, uh... there's a table at the back here...ˮ he said, talking her behind a door.
She looked around the back room, unimpressed, but curtly nodded, to the kacheek's relief.
ˮIt'll do.ˮ
---
Rita: So you work here?
Hama: Well... sorta, I mean my dad owns the shop. Sometimes I do things... here and there... and I guess that could be called working... here... um...
Rita: Right. How long has this establishment been up?
Hama: Establishment? Oh, you mean the shop? Uh... I don't really know, maybe for like... 12 years... I just know it was here since I was born... I think...
Rita: Is this a thing you do...?
Hama: Huh?
Rita: The rambling? Nevermind. Was it hard growing up here?
Hama: What do you mean? At the book store? Well I didn't really... though I did help a lot... and often... but--
Rita: I see. So it was difficult.
Hama: I never said--
Rita: Was it always hard labour? Hulling around heavy books?
Hama: I don't know what you mea-- ahhh!
Rita: You just twitched when the light flickered. You don't feel safe here, do you? You've been brought up to fear the very place you're enslaved! You--
---
Rita, disregarding the dumbfounded kacheek she left behind in the shop, smiled a satisfied grin at what was going to be the best story yet.

Day Ten
| Heather | Kitty |
Ezulla's story has two themes. The first theme is good conquers evil. In the story, Ezulla has a pure heart and wants what's best for the
people in her kingdom as well as what's best for her. When her evil sister banishes her, takes the throne, and causes great pain to the
kingdom, this fuels Ezulla's desire to do the right thing no matter the cost. The second theme is you can achieve anything if you only dare
to give it a try. Ezulla was not expected to survive the first battle. She was not a warrior by definition. She struggled, put in hours and
hours of training, and gave everything she had to become a warrior and take back her kingdom.
|
The moral of Spark's story is basically about kindness to others. Sparks ended up with all her troubles because she was rude to an old beggar. If she'd been kinder, she wouldn't have had the dreams in the first place. Another bit of the moral is to believe in yourself. It was only when Sparks believed she could get to the city of her dreams that she was able to. The other moral is to not be prideful. It was her pride that caused Sparks to be rude in the first place, and it was her pride that made it difficult for her to go and fix her problems. |
| Tiff | Sunny |
The moral of the story is kind of that everyone should be included, I suppose; Deleroe isn't allowed to enter into Faerieland simply because
she isn't a Faerie. But there is also a positive "never give up" message in it, too, as Deleroe never gives up on her one major dream.
"Don't be afraid to dream big" could possibly be a little message in the story, too.
|
The theme of my story comes in two parts: you have to work hard for what you believe in (nothing good is achieved without the effort) and to never give up. My character Soleil prevails through many difficulties and, despite her circumstances, learns to overcome and make a a name for herself. |
| Laurell | |
The theme of Hama's story is finding courage in the unknown. I want to have his overcoming fear of the dark be a parallel to the more broad situation he faces in the world. I think it's a theme everyone can relate to in some way. Hama tries to get over his fear through silly ways that have been recommended to him or that he's heard about, but in the end he finds solace through words from an important person in his life. He eventually starts believing in himself and learns that this was the only way he could get past his fear. I don't want it to be an overly sappy story or anything, but a humorous, whimsical one that has a sort of universal undertone.

Day Eleven
| Heather | Tiff |
From a distance, Shenkuu is filled with the deep greens of the grass and trees, bright blues from the flowing streams that lead to crashing
waterfalls, and pale red-browns from the temples and shops that are placed all over the land. Looking closer, there are wooden bridges that
cross over those flowing streams, beautiful pink cherry blossom trees and royal purple jacaranda trees along with the deep green trees.
Leaves fall freely from the trees, swaying back and forth before touching the ground. Flags stand guard at the entrance of each shop and
temple, welcoming visitors to come inside. |
The story is in Faerieland--the most beautiful place in all of Neopia, with amazing ponds, waterfalls and flowers absolutely everywhere. It
smells strongly of assorted flowers, and within the city, there are so many exotic smells: faerie treats and sweet-smelling natural
perfumes, just to name a few. You can almost always hear bluebirds singing softly during daytime, or at night-time the buzz of tiny little
glowing faeries can be heard throughout the whole land; an almost silent, soothing sound. If you open your mouth for more than a few
seconds, you will be able to taste something sugary melting on your tongue. This is known as faerie dust, and it floats around in the air
aimlessly, drifting with the wind. The colours in Faerieland are truly breathtaking, enough to blow your mind.
|
| Kitty | Sunny |
|
You step tentatively into the teacup-shaped house. The wooden door closes softly behind you as your eyes adjust. You're in what appears to be a rather festive office; blue and yellow walls, a large red desk covered with files, and a few green chairs in a corner. You blink at the brightness and go straight to your file, marked 'DARIGANKAT'. You pull out a few papers and look at your building history, checking prices. After a few minutes you stuff the papers back into the red folder and hurry back outside to be on your way.
|
Faerieland was best known for its secrets--ranging from the sleek palace walls to the darker corners of Jhudora's bluff. It boasted magnificent roaring waterfalls, dotted with quaint cottages and entwined with well-worn cobbled roads. The air smelled distinctly of ripe apples and blooming flowers. Through a faint mist and a dust of magic, the bubbling streams, a flutter of wings and a cheerful warble of laughter forever lingers.
|
| Laurell | |
|
The Golden Dubloon, Krawk Island
Darkness and silence surrounds you, but you're pulled towards a fuzzy light and the sound of noise far off in the distance. Getting closer to this place, the smell of rum and ale engulf your senses and the raucous laughter emanating from every open window allows you to understand that you're in front of a tavern. Its wooden walls look like they're about to topple over with the rest of the place, but somehow they hold. You're not sure if you should enter, but the life of the place is almost welcoming... I mean, other than the fact that a neopian just got thrown out of a window, glass shattering on the ground, and now several other people are being tossed out after him to joyous whoops and hurrahs.

Day Twelve
| Tiff | Heather |
1. Deleroe can't get into Faerieland — She simply isn't a Faerie, and there is really no other way. But then she meets a wizard, who is very
powerful indeed, and with his help, she manages to reach Faerieland, though it is very difficult. The moment she sets foot on land, she
collapses for exhaustion.
2. The guards won't let her in through the gates — Something about her not being allowed in for security reasons (Fyora has been extra-safe
since Faerieland was turned to stone), which Deleroe finds to be totally unfair. What could a small little Gnorbu like herself possibly do?
But, thanks to her rather small size, she manages to sneak through a gap in the fencing where there are no guards keeping watch.
3. She isn't allowed in the castle — How can she achieve her dream of becoming Fyora's personal gardener if she isn't even allowed in the
castle to speak to her? Eventually, Deleroe manages to trick the guards (something that is extremely hard to do) by telling them that she is
there to offer a deal to the queen, and so she is let in.
|
1. No idea how to create a look for my pet.
Solution: Start with thinking of the theme for your pet. Do they have a personality? Their look should be a reflection of their personality.
2. What I want for customization costs too many neopoints or is worth too much value in neocash.
Solution: There are always cheaper alternatives to the more expensive items. Research around and you'll find an alternative in no time.
3. I'm undecided between two items for one area of my pet's look.
Solution: Don't be afraid to ask for opinions. Ask a neofriend, your guild, the boards, etc.
|
| Kitty | Sunny |
Problem one: Sparks is cursed with dreams of a city
Contributes: By starting the conflict. Sparks can't get rest because of the dreams and sometimes is so afraid of them she can't get to sleep at all. She becomes exhaused and irritable and wants to just figure out what the city means.
Problem two: The dreams don't stop at the city
Contributes: Even once she reaches the city the dreams still plauge her. She knows she needs to stop them soon, but she still doesn't know how to.
Problem three: Actually stopping the dreams
Contributes: The climax of the story is when Sparks confronts the old beggar to ask for her peaceful dreams back. She has an internal conflict because she wants the dreams to stop but doesn't want to apologize to the beggar.

1) Soleil has no home and is living in poverty--her biggest fear is failure
2) Soleil is very talented and helps a restaurant gain popularity quickly, which also puts her under scrutiny and makes her the envy of others 3) A fellow coworker continually tries to sabotage her success--spoils her cooking, steals her recipes, etc. Blackmails and humiliates her. 4) It is found out that she's living in an abandoned house, which goes to the royal courts to determine whether or not she is allowed to stay |
| Laurell | |
Article: A reporter is trying to find out the answers to mysterious questions in neopia, but everyone either has no idea or is good at keeping secrets. In the end, he has to accept that there are no answers...
Short Story/series: Hama is afraid of the dark, and therefore afraid of the unknown in his life. Each night he works up the courage to face these fears and finally overcomes them.
Comic: The trouble is a cloud neopet who lives in the windy, rolling hills. He always gets picked up by the air currents and gets caught up in the sky. The resolution? Tying weights to himself! x)

Day Thirteen

This is a short excerpt written by punctuation_ninja in this short story: http://www.neopets.com/ntimes /index.phtml?section=447953&week=384 . I really love it. :3 The carriage moved out of sight, and I turned from the -blocked- Sitting on the table of my kitchen was the simple vase which held the bunch of tulips. Their colour had gone completely now, and they sagged, limp and depressed, decaying even as I watched them. I couldn't bring myself to throw them out, though. They were a last reminder of the sweetest friend I had ever had. Firstly, it inspires me because it's written amazingly well and the use of language is great. It's quite simply written, in a good way, and I love how you learn pretty much all the most important things about the characters in such a short piece of writing. There's also the tulips, and I love how the author has mentioned them at the start, then again at the end; the way they did that was perfect. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't really suggest too much to the author. |
Article: Neopoint Wearables You Should Own - But Don't
Author: agedbeauty and sinistrous
Link: http://www.neopets.com/ ntimes/index.phtml?section=514341&week=491 This article tells neopians about 10 neopoint wearables that are great to own and customize with. Not only do they look great, but they could really compete with some of the neocash items in terms of how nice they are. For example, the first item they name is the Moon and Stars Background, which is a personal favorite of mine. Here's what they say about it: At around 50 NP a piece, there really aren't many backgrounds cheaper than this – once Key Quest started giving it out as a prize for key redemption, it's become incredibly common... and yet rarely used. That's a shame; this is actually a very lovely background, and many pets – particularly bluer faeries such as Lennies – look quite pretty on it." This article inspires me for a few reasons. First, I think it's really helpful. It highlights some neopoint wearables that are often overlooked. Second, I'm wanting to write an NT article about wearables. The style of writing they used and they way they approached the article pushes me to work towards writing my own article. And finally, it's inspiring. They were published in the NT for their wearable article, and hopefully I will be too. |
| Kitty | Sunny |
|
Took me a while to pick because my favorite NT author ever (vanessa1357924680) has written so many things. I really like her series stories because they're interesting and have a good plot and are the kind of longer stories with twists where characters can develope and where everything all fits in together. My favorites series by her is Roomies 4;
The potion's teacher sighed. 'There's a theory that stored away in our brains is a hard copy of everything we've experienced in our lives: memories, dreams, events... even ones that we can't physically recall anymore. This means that even if a spell is blocking out a certain memory, the memory is still there deep within our minds. The Rememorandum Potion allows us the option of traveling into our memories and re-watching what took place, meaning that we can almost travel back in time and see what caused Mrs. Pierce to turn out the way she has. If we can figure out the cause, then maybe we can better diagnose a way for us to end this conflict peacefully. Jhudora snorted skeptically, but Jesc was intrigued. 'I say we go for it,' she said with a nod. 'I mean, what have we got to lose?' Mr. Sully reddened, as if he hadn't anticipated on anyone actually going for his idea so soon. 'Er, actually," the Wocky mumbled, sounding slightly embarrassed, 'there are a few... er, complications. First of all, it's a two person operation. One faerie has to travel inside the other person's mind to witness the memory, meaning the two involved must be able to trust each other completely. And secondly, there is a chance for things to go wrong, such as two people being trapped inside the same body... forever. Sounds fun,' Jhudora said sarcastically, but Mr. Sully was staring straight at her, his eyes locking onto her intently as if he was attempting some sort of silent communication. 'Umm... Mr. Creepy, can you stop looking at me like that? A favorite quote from a favorite series by a favorite author. ^^ |
Just How Smooth Was the Altador Cup? is my favorite article by iamskot.
http://www.neopets.com/ ntimes/index.phtml?section=236852&week=247 I thought of it in light of the Altador Cup season. It's creative, funny, inspiring and entertaining to read. My favorite quotes include: 16) In an alarming turn of events, a Haunted Woods tent exploded. Brightvale members admitted that "aiming that Wand of Reality over there hadn't been the greatest idea." 20) Some meepits ate some cheese. Many would have overlooked this event, but ask anyone on the boards, meepits and cheese can only result in disastrous consequences. 25) It began to rain mortogs. In such a catastrophic event, many fans tried to kiss them, expecting a neopoint prize... |

Herdygerdy is my all time favorite Neopian Times writer. I love all of his series. They're so easy to read because they're written so well, are interesting, and incorporate humour. Since there are so many, I randomly picked one. Here's an excerpt from it:
He rested himself against the stone face of the mountain to catch his breath. The stitch in his side took full hold, and he found himself unable to move as the air barely touched his lungs before being heaved back out. As his body recovered from the run, Oscar told himself that there must be easier jobs. He'd heard of people whose only responsibility was cleaning the Hall of Heroes in Altador, or spinning the tombola on Mystery Island. How he longed for a job where no one tried to kill or imprison you.
I think this paragraph alone does so much. The author is able to describe the physical ailment of running with such ease without it being overdone prose. There's purpose behind every sentence, constantly moving the story forward. This is something I struggle with. I often have extraneous bits of writing floating about when I want to be to the point.
|
Day Fourteen
| Tiff | Heather |
The object I've chosen is a snowball. Firstly, one problem is, of course, that they can only be used once. They also tend to melt in warmer
weather, so you have to keep them cold. They don't usually cause much damage, either, since they are simply frozen water. But, still, they
do come in handy sometimes, as long as you make sure you wear some gloves when holding them (they can be very, very icy!).
As for a storyline for a comic (haha, wish I could draw ...) I was thinking of doing a talking snowball or something. xD I haven't really
thought of anything else thus far, but I'll have a think about it.
|
Item: Neopoints
Several Problems: Not having enough of them, going on a spending spree when you should be saving, wasting neopoints gambling on the new highroller wheel, and having them stolen through random events.
Personal Experiences/Feelings: Neopoints are a necessary part of Neopets, but I never seem to have enough of them to get what I want. Therefore, I end up having to save them for a long time. But, sometimes the temptation to risk them is too much and I spend them on things like the new highroller wheel. I lost 75k on it yesterday.
Possible Storyline:
Conflict - Not having enough neopoints.
Resolution - Play games, Key Quest, Habitarium, learn to restock, invest in stocks, and try to snipe items to resell.
Conflict - Going on a spending spree.
Resolution - Hide your neopoints from yourself. Put them in the bank and forget they exist if possible.
Conflict - Wasting neopoints gambling on the new highroller wheel.
Resolution - Just don't. Pretty simple. Unless you have 100k to lose, avoid the temptation to spin the wheel.
Conflict - Having them stolen through random events.
Resolution - Put your neopoints in the bank. They're safe from random events there.
|
| Kitty | Sunny |
My idea for a comic is abouttt books! How they always go poof when you read them. So let's say we have a neopet who's just sitting there reading a book and they close it because they want to come back and finish it later, but no! Instead they get covered in a cloud of purple smoke and there's no more book. Now, If only I could draw... Dx
|
Object: waffles
Problems: Sticky, messy/possibly dangerous (waffle pan), unhealthy Theme: "waffling: to talk foolishly or without purpose" Conflict: Two characters--one is very uptight/formal/lecturing, the other is very carefree and impulsive Character One walks in on character two just sitting down to eat a plate of waffles and begins to describe the unhealthy quality of waffles, rambling into the ingredients, etc. Character Two, during this speech, is attempting to grab the plate of waffles, held out of reach by character one Character One ends with "after hearing this pros and cons, I hope that you will use this information to make the logical, constructive and responsible decision towards your breakfast choices." Character Two looks bored and impassive, and promptly shoves in a mouthful of waffles. (Character One looks exasperated.) |
| Laurell | |
The object I've decided to pick is a codestone.
What exactly does the techo master do with these rocks? Where does he keep all of them? Is he some kind of collector? Why are there markings on them? Why does he even accept STONES as payment? Is it a learn-a-deep-meaningful-zen-lesson thing? Why can they be found all over the place? O__o
A possible storyline could basically revolve around finding the answers to these questions and having no idea where to start. The character would meet a few people and experience strange occurrences as the story progresses. I don't see there being an answer in the end, but rather a resolution in the acceptance of the strange mysteries of the neoworld.
|
Day Sixteen
| Tiff | Heather |
I've never really done comics before, but I think this will be fun. :3
A young Blue Chomby will be featured throughout the comic, and he absolutely loves playing with snowballs. At the beginning, he tries to hit someone with a snowball in the Lost Desert, but because of the heat, it simply melts into water on the sand. The Chomby is very disappointed, because he had wanted to begin a snowball fight; he's rather silly sometimes, I might add. Anyway, further towards the end, I think he'll begin to realise what's wrong: the weather's too hot, of course. So he travels to Terror Mountain and begins a snowball fight. :3
|
Before: A young, inexperienced Shoyru hears about the news of the new highroller wheel from her friends. She goes to the bank, withdrawals 100,000 neopoints, and heads over to the wheel for a spin.
After: The wheel lands on 25,000 neopoints, so the Shoyru loses 75,000 neopoints. Disappointed, the young Shoyru walks away from the wheel. On her way home, a random event happens that takes her other 25,000 neopoints.
|
| Sunny | Laurell |
|
Before: A large plate of waffles sits on the kitchen table.
Character One and Two sit down with their respective breakfast choices--one being a healthy yogurt, the other being a plate of waffles. Character One (being health conscious and responsible) takes it upon herself to switch out the waffles with a bowl of oatmeal and an apple. Character Two walks back in, sits down and begins quietly and un-confrontationally eating oatmeal. Character One, satisfied, begins drinking smoothie. Character Two says, "You know that yogurt has whole fat milk and 25 grams of sugar." Character One chokes on yogurt, Character Two cheerfully continues eating. |
First panel: A rock on a desk or some sort of surface.
Second panel: An inquisitive neopian face looking straight at you (or rather, where the rock would be.)
Third panel: That same rock all dressed up in a certain theme that would relate to the neopian before.
I think I could do like a series of these and have it become a moderately lame, amusing thing... (AKA why I haven't ever tried to submit a comic, my humour is probably horribleee... although I do really like this idea of mine xD)

Day Seventeen
| Tiff | Heather |
The girl was tall, with long blond hair that fell down way past her shoulders and big, bright hazel eyes. She was wearing a bow in her hair, clipping back a few loose strands, and she held several thick books tightly against her chest as she walked along the pavement. She had a slight skip in her step, as though she were excited for something, and her wide smile was enough to make anyone feel happy no matter what mood they were in. She stopped briefly to pick a gorgeous red rose in her free hand, and then continued onwards_ twirling it absentmindedly in her fingers, inhaling the intoxicating smell happily. She seemed to fill the air around her with an aura of friendliness, and you could almost see the brightness radiating off of her. She would easily stand out amongst any crowd, any day.
|
The sun shines brightly across her pale white face, touching her thoughtful, dark brown eyes and leaving behind a shiny twinkle. The way the color of her shoulder-length hair matches her eyes perfectly is almost haunting. She stands just a little over five feet tall in height, wearing faded blue jeans and a black shirt with little white buttons at the top. As a breeze blows through the air, she reaches her left hand up to her face to brush her hair back. She wears two white rings on her left ring finger, and a delicate, beaded bracelet adorns her wrist. |
| Sunny | Kitty |
Sitting under a shaded tree, eating an apple, sat a girl hunched over a book wearing a plain t-shirt, sunglasses and cargo pants. Her brow furrowed as she wrote meticulously in a notebook with neat, color-coded print.
Her sun-bleached hair was pulled into a sloppy ponytail and she wore no makeup or jewelry. Ignoring the loud chatter of a group of girls passing by, she adjusted the song choice on her Ipod and finished off a bottle of water. As the time for her next class approached, she stuffed the book into a backpack, swung it over her shoulder and, ignoring an incoming call from her phone, walked briskly towards the adjacent building. |
You're sitting on the bench by the fountain as usual, eating your tigersquash sandwich, when someone catches your eye.
It's a girl-- she looks young, but you can't be sure. Her height conflicts with the innocent -disallowed_word- vanessa1357924680) has written so many things. I really like her series stories because they're interesting and have a good plot and are the kind of longer stories with twists where characters can develope and where everything all fits in together. My favorites series by her is Roomies 4;
'I mean, what have we got to lose?'
Mr.

A girl walks by, head down, and you wonder if it's a lack of confidence or if she's mortally afraid of eye contact. A cup of coffee, a Styrofoam container that no doubt houses food, and loose paper are flailing in her overly full hands. Perhaps she needs to concentrate on not dropping anything in this juggling act of hers, you're not quite sure. The look on her face reads annoyance and the fact that she desperately wants to escape the masses to the empty hallway on the other side that no one uses. You notice her silky, black hair in a messy bun and a casual outfit of flats and skinnies, seemingly like she didn't have much time that morning for anything complicated. And in a moment she's gone and you'll remember nothing about her because of how quickly and unremarkably she passed by.

Day Eighteen
| Tiff | Heather |
Okay, I decided to review Heather's Day Three scene. (: I don't have much to suggst, since it's amazing, but here is my review! ...
Firstly, I think maybe this sentence is missing a word at the end: "I open my closet, choosing the deep autumn-colored dress with its beautiful yellow, brown, and orange". I think it would perhaps flow better if you added the word 'colors' to the end. Or perhaps another word, like 'shades' or something. I really love the style you've written it in--every writer has a different style, and yours is quite unique, I love it. ^^ In such a short piece of writing, you've told the reader a lot through descriptive language, which is great. Overall, I don't have many suggestions at all, and I really enjoyed reading your writing. Amazing job, Heather.
|
(I chose to review Tiff's day 11 challenge.)
I really enjoyed your description of Faerieland. If I'd never played Neopets or seen Faerieland before, I'd know exactly what it looks like from your description. Your description is really vivid, and I like that you incorporate scents and tastes into the description too. I thought that was really creative since most descriptions seem to be based solely on sights.
The only advice I have is to go more into detail about some things if you write this into a story. What do the flowers look like? What do they smell like? What are the colors in Faerieland like?
I'd love to read more if you do decide to write a story sometime.

I chose to review Tiff's scene from Day One.
Firstly, I really love how she chose to represent each person as a Neopets character--I thought that was very creative. c: Descriptively, it was written very well with pertinent and interesting details. I also like the natural progression of moving through the guild, it kept it interesting to read as the main character made their way from room to room. As criticism, I would suggest trying to get rid of some of the repetitiveness of "I entered..." which is used twice. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading it and would like to have read more! A few more details, a bit more dialogue maybe, but overall well written. c: |
I liked Laurell's Day One challenge because it had humor, it was short and to the point, and involved all different guild members. I also liked the order she used for it, which was a bit chaotic--it matched the story itself. Nice job Laurell. (:

I remember being able to read through your piece so quickly, or at least it felt quick, not because it was short or uncomplicated, but because it was easy to get absorbed into. I think you did really well with the dialogue. It alone was able to convey the situation and also give a sense of the two characters. I also love how the conversation ended, with the person with the light coming in and then leaving again. Awesome stuff. I think this part: "Thaltun said dreamily, thinking of ways they could try--but he was so frightened that he couldn't think of one single thing" could be improved upon to sound better and be more clear. I also would suggest maybe trying to mix things up and describing voices differently instead of using the same formula of "Thaltun said dreamily," "Tucazin answered glumly," or "The Gnorbu sighed loudly." You really mix up most of it already, but lessening those intstances I mentioned would make it even better. All in all, interesting read and by the end of it, I wanted to know more!

Day Nineteen
| Tiff | Heather |
A tall Lupe stood timidly in the darkness; floppy hair tinted blue falling over his scared eyes.
"Are you ... an experiment, too?" he asked, his eyes glinting with fear.
"Yes," a wise-looking Gnorbu replied calmly, forcing a half-smile on his face to try and reassure to Lupe. "My name's Tucazin."
"Oh, um, I'm Thaltun," the Lupe replied, coming out of the darkness a bit. "Do you know what they're doing to us here? And where exactly are we?"
The Gnorbu sighed loudly. "I haven't a clue what they are trying to accomplish, but there is one thing I do know: they aren't the good guys. Prodding us with needles all day ... well, it's just not normal.
"As for where we are, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that either," he shook his head sadly.
"We could escape," Thaltun said dreamily, thinking of ways they could try--but he was so frightened that he couldn't think of one single thing.
"I wish. I truly wish we could."
"Can you remember anything from your past?" Thaltun asked after a few minutes of silence.
"It's all a bit of a blur, actually," Tucazin answered glumly. "I do remember that my parents owned a chocolate shop. I used to work there. Every now and again I also get random pieces of information that pop into my head, and I always wonder if perhaps the memory loss might be wearing off ..."
"All I can remember is that I was a king. My parents disappeared when I was younger, and they were—"
"SILENCE!" a booming voiced cut him off abruptly, and then a bright light came shining in through the separate cages they were locked in. "Experiments are not permitted to talk at all."
And then there was darkness once more. |
Sister: "Ezulla?! How on earth did you...? What did you...?"
Ezulla: "You didn't really think it would be that easy to get rid of me did you? In the 20 years you've known me, grown up with me even, you should have known that I wouldn't allow any evil to fall upon the kingdom and its people."
Sister: "You just don't get it, do you? I had a vision. I had plans. Neither included you or our pathetic father."
Ezulla: "Our father was not pathetic. He was a great man and a great king to the people. He was kind and compassionate. If he had any flaws, it would be that he was kind to a fault, which was probably the reason that event destroyed the kingdom."
Sister: "How dare you give our father credit for the event? Didn't he ever teach you to give credit where credit is due? I was the one who caused the event, and it was the best decision of my life. It was all a part of my greater plan."
Ezulla: "How could you?! That event devastated the kingdom and cost our father his life not to mention all the other countless lives lost. All so you could sit on the throne and play queen? You're the one who's pathetic, not our father."

Okay, try this one."
Ayden sat at the counter, surrounded by plates showcasing a variety of desserts. He bit down on a scoop of chocolate mouse, chewing contemplatively. It's good." He smiled, setting his spoon down. You say that about all of them." Soleil sighed, exasperated, and slumped into the chair next to him. And it's true about all of them," he said earnestly, setting a hand on her shoulder. "I think you're stressing too much over this." This is for royalty," Soleil pointed out. "Hundreds of faeries will be tasting my desserts. Famous faeries." And hundreds of famous faeries will enjoy every bite. They're really good, Soleil. Stop worrying." She was up again, stacking the empty plates and pacing with nervous energy. There will be reporters, the royal family, the queen herself." She fiddled with a loose string on her apron, worrying the material between her fingers. She looked up at Ayden, frowning slightly. What if they don't like it?" she said in a near whisper. Ayden dipped a finger back into the bowl of mouse, licked it greedily and smiled. They will." |
I jumped on my adversary, pinning him quickly to the ground.
You're too slow, Drea!" I complained, watching him squirm, trying to free himself. He pushed up heavily and I tumbled off.
You're too light, little sister." He purred back, shaking out his dusty fur.
Not my fault you're so fat." I muttered grumpily.
Not my fault you're so little." He retorted. His words were harsh, but his smile was warm. I couldn't help but smile back.
One day I'm gonna be able to flatten you!" I purred at him.
Not likely.
Well then I'll just get Tria to do it for me." I was triumphant.
Cheater.
...Pretty much, yeah."

Liv beamed as a smartly dressed lenny entered the bakery. Upon seeing her smile, he tipped his top hat politely in response, but was unable to hide the agitated look on his features.
ˮLooking for anything in particular?ˮ
ˮWell...ˮ the Lenny hesitated, ˮJust something nice for a friend.ˮ
Liv smiled. She knew what this was about.
ˮWhat's she like, this friend?ˮ
ˮUm... I... we just met...ˮ he said, scratching his head slightly in worry.
Looking for cues from the lenny's face, Liv inquired slowly, ˮShe's... sweet, yes?ˮ
He nodded, perhaps more to himself than to her.
ˮProbably likes something soft, with a good outer crust...ˮ she smiled as she watched the lenny's eyes follow the paper bag she was placing goods into.
ˮSounds like a couple of blueberry tarts would be a nice mid-afternoon snack for the both of you.ˮ
Agreeing, the lenny began fumbling in his pocket for change. ˮThank you,ˮ he finally managed to say, with a look in his eyes that meant it, as the two exchanged what they were holding.
Liv grinned as he gratefully took the pastries and left, but just as he opened the door onto the street, she called out ˮDon't be so nervous! I'm sure she likes you!ˮ
He turned sheepishly, and tipped his hat off to Liv before he was off again.
Mortimus Caldaviae. He would come in every Tuesday thereafter for blueberry tarts.

Ezulla's Story: Part One
From a distance, Shenkuu is filled with the deep greens of the grass and trees, bright blues from the flowing streams that lead to crashing waterfalls, and pale red-browns from the temples and shops that are placed all over the land. Looking closer, there are wooden bridges that cross over those flowing streams, beautifully pink cherry blossom trees, and royal purple jacaranda trees along with the vibrant green trees. Leaves fall freely from the trees, swaying back and forth before touching down to the ground or skimming across the water. At the top of the highest lush green hill stood a palace that could be seen from anywhere in Shenkuu. It was pale red-brown in color with a faded blue canopy over the entrance. It may not sound like much, but it was truly a sight to behold for those who have had the pleasure of seeing it.
Shenkuu is a place of a beauty, prosperity, peace, and tranquility. It's governed by a royal family - Balzar the
King, Caza the Princess and eldest daughter, and Ezulla the Princess and youngest daughter. Balzar is a kind and gentle ruler, and he is beloved by his people. He has kept Shenkuu vibrant with life, full of peace, and a comfortable place to live for the past few decades.
At least, that's what life used to be like in Shenkuu. Tragedy took the land by surprise in the form of a horrifying curse. Nobody knows who or what cast that curse or even why they would do such a thing, but it put an end to the life everyone knew. War broke out between Shenkuu and their once neighboring alliance, Gallion. Balzar perished in
the curse, along with several others who were never found. Caza seized the opportunity to take over the throne, immediately banishing Ezulla away from the palace and sending her into the army camp, expecting her to become
another casuality of the war. This is where the story truly begins.
Ezulla, a young and determined Kacheek, stood on the platform at the army camp site. Her short black hair swayed in the wind as the army masters looked over their newest recruits. She had never been so uncomfortable in her life.
Upon arriving at the camp, she was immediately forced into a back room for a "make over." They took her beautiful, long black hair and cut it short and took away her silk cherry blossom dress, replacing it with a warrior shirt, skirt, boots, and bracers. Now, she was made to stand on a platform and wait her turn to be sorted into a rank. From what she understood, there were 5 ranks; the best rank was 1 and the worst was 5. If you were placed in rank 5, the masters saw you as worthy to become one of them someday. If you were placed in rank 1, the masters saw you as so weak, they did not expect you to survive the first battle and therefore, they would not waste much of their precious training time on you. One by one, all the others in front of Ezulla was given their ranks. Finally, it was Ezulla's turn to hear her fate.
"Ezulla, rank 5. Report to the tent on your right immediately," one of the masters stated, motioning to a small black tent.
"But sir, with all due respect, I disagree. I'm capable of more than you give me credit for," Ezulla pledded. She knew that being a rank 5 would mean she would not receive the proper weapons, training, or time from her masters.
"Prove it," the master replied as he looked to the masters on each side of him and laughed.
Ezulla stepped off the platform, toward the masters, and was handed a sword. Granted, she'd never had any training before, but she thought it seemed simple enough. All you really had to do was keep a hold of your sword and not let
your opponent get a good shot in. One of the masters stepped forward and immediately began to duel her. It happened so fast that Ezulla didn't even know how she had wound up face first on the dirt. The masters were laughing so hard that one of them fell to the ground roaring with laughter. Completely humiliated, Ezulla pulled herself off the ground and walked over to the tent she was assigned to. As she made her way over, she swore that she'd prove herself worthy to her masters, her sister, her kingdom, and herself no matter what it took.

The morning sky was a brilliant blue, and only a few wispy clouds could be spotted: it was an average day in North Meadow, where the only true season was spring throughout the whole year. Brilliantly coloured flowers of all shades of the rainbow were almost everywhere, and had to be maintained daily to make sure they didn't completely take over the land (if given the opportunity, they most definitely would). Deleroe was one of many gardeners in North Meadow—though she was by far the best, and everyone knew it. She simply had a way with flowers and plants of all kinds, and some joked that she could "talk" to them, though it was the silliest thought.
"Deleroe! Ah, early as always," an old Gnorbu smiled down at her as she entered through a white gate into the Gardening Center. He was tall and very wise-looking, with a wide-brim hat on and a gardening fork in one hand.
"Good morning, Lucas," Deleroe nodded politely at her boss. "It's a lovely day, isn't it?"
"As always," Lucas grinned. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Uh, well, I was wondering if I could … maybe take a week or so off from work? I know it's quite sudden, and I do apologise, but I'm sure that I could get someone else to take ov —"
"Of course, Deleroe. I was beginning to think you'd never ask. And that would be quite worrying—it's rather unhealthy to never have any time off from work. Just tell me how long you'll be gone, and I'm sure I'll be able to get someone to fill in for you easy," Lucas said kindly.
"Thank you so much!" now it was Deleroe's turn to grin widely. "The thing is, though, I'm not too certain how long I'll be away. Two weeks at the most. I'll keep in contact with you, of course, to let you know exactly when I will be back."
"All right. Well, have fun during your time off," Lucas tipped his hat slightly before turning away and heading back up to the green shed that held all the gardening equipment.
Deleroe could only smile even wider: perhaps now she could finally make what she'd been wishing for come true.
Once she'd packed up all her belongings—pollen from several different flowers (in case there was any need for her to create a potion), her favourite book, some spare clothing, assorted gardening tools, a torch and a few other necessities—she set off in the muggy heat towards the gate leading out of North Meadow. Ten minutes later, she arrived. The gate looked magical, with flowers and vines twisting around shiny metal bars, and the words "North Meadow" written in fancy handwriting in the middle.
"Hello. My name is Deleroe; high-ranked gardener of North Meadow. I'm taking roughly a week or two off work to, hopefully, accomplish my dream," Deleroe said.
"And where might you be off to?" the older of the two Guards spoke up, raising one eyebrow curiously. Both Guards held tall, powerful staffs that were wrapped in leaves and flowers; they were only ever assigned to Guards, and there use was mostly unknown.
"Faerieland," Deleroe replied simply. Both the guards laughed.
"Only Faeries can get up to Faerieland, I'm afraid," the other Guard explained.
Deleroe was shattered; she'd never known that, never been told that by anyone. "Well, I'll find some way, you'll see," she stood up straighter now, not wanting them to see how disappointed she was.
"All right, off you go," the Guards both smashed the ends of their staffs on the ground, hard, and the gate slowly opened.
Deleroe thanked them, and headed off into North Wood. She knew she could do this, and she hadn't been lying: she would find some way to get to Faerieland, no matter how hard it would be.

FAERIELAND WAS FULL OF SECRETS.
Ranging from the sleek palace walls to the darker corners of Jhudora's Bluff, there was plenty of the mysterious and the unknown. It boasted magnificent roaring waterfalls, dotted with quaint cottages along well-worn cobbled roads and the air smelled distinctly of ripe apples and flowers in full bloom.
One of those mysteries, Soleil discovered, was an old abandoned house nestled discreetly in a valley on the outskirts of the city. Surrounded by thick, towering trees, it was nearly obscured from view. A small creek bubbled pleasantly nearby and critters chirped gleefully in the fresh air.
The house itself was in shambles, confined by a weathered, sagging picket fence. Cobwebs and grime clung to every window, many of them sporting cracked and broken glass. The roof was missing large patches of shingles and the paint was peeling off the battered shutters. Overgrown weeds had invaded the front lawn and tangled through the fence.
Tired, feet aching from a long day of walking, Soleil pushed through the creaking gate and crept quietly forward to stand in the doorway. Or what was left of it.
A few leaves skittered through a hinge-less opening, swirling down hallway where a small
pile of dirt and dust had collected. The house was dark, empty.
She stood there for a moment, debating. No one had lived here for years, surely no one would know if she spent the night here. It was wrong, she knew. But where else did she have to go?
Resigned, she inched along the dark hallway, leaves crunching underneath her sneakers. She felt along the wall for a light switch. When she found one and tried flicking it on and off, nothing happened.
She edged into the first room, which should have been a kitchen. Instead, there were a few counters, a rusted sink and several worn cabinets. The wood flooring was scarred and stained.
She continued through the house, which was suprisingly open. One room opened into the next until she had made a full circle. Satisfied that it was indeed vacant, she peered outside to survey the backyard.
A tangled heap of foliage, half dead and rotting, seemed to have taken over the lawn. She stepped out onto the deck and trampled her way through a foot-high mass of weeds, pushing through an overgrown, vine-like plant that hung from a tarnished silver arbor, nearly walking into the pond. Moss and lilypads made it nearly impossible to tell is was even there, except for the stench that wafted up form it that had stopped her. The sole survivors--a pair of large apple trees--stood drooping in the corner of the yard, supporting a hammock that was draped between them.
Exhausted, she pulled the thin blanket out of her bag and settled into the wide hammock. She listened to a shuffling sound of something moving in the tall grass, the wind that made an eerie howl through the cracks of the fence and willed herself to sleep.

Day Twenty One

Dear TNT,
I'd like to address the current prices in the NC Mall. As a former self-proclaimed NC-addict, I really enjoy the creativity and customization that NC items offer to users. However, I believe that the current prices in the NC Mall are a little too steep for users. I'd like to outline the reasons as to why I believe this and why it would be benefit both users and TNT to lower the prices.
Currently in the NC Mall, to purchase a full outfit for your pet could easily cost a user 750 NC. If you're a user in the United States, that's the equivalent of spending $7.50, which is more than the price of a meal. If you really love the NC Mall, you likely play Jubjub Power Bounce and purchase capsules. Jubjub Power Bounce tokens cost 900 NC for a 10-pack and capsules cost between 100-1000 NC depending on the capsule. For me, spending $9-10 for a chance to get an item or two that I like is just too much. I could easily purchase multiple meals or a new shirt for that amount of money.
It would benefit both users and TNT to lower the current prices in the NC Mall. It would benefit users, because they would get more for their money and overall be happier about their NC purchases. For example, I would be much more likely to purchase a 10-pack of Jubjub Power Bounce tokens for 450 NC than I would for 900 NC. I really believe that $4.50 is a much more reasonable price than $9.00 for 10 plays. It's a purchase I can feel good about rather than feeling guilty about it. It would benefit TNT, because I believe that more users would purchase NC and purchase even more NC if the items were priced lower. When TNT had a 50% off sale in the Mall a while back, the NC board exploded with users thanking TNT and announcing their NC purchases. If TNT were to permanently reduce the prices in the Mall by 50%, I believe that people would purchase NC more often and purchase more NC at a time, because they'd feel better about what they were getting for their money.
In conclusion, I really enjoy the creativity and customization that NC items offer to users. However, I believe that the current prices in the NC Mall are a little too steep for users. I believe that if TNT lowered the prices in the Mall by 50% permanently, it would increase their sales as well as make users feel better about their purchases.
Sincerely,
Heather (painted_dreams87)

Recently, something that has been really annoying me is the amount of people who have begun to judge people by their accounts/pets/how many trophies they have, et cetera. Sometimes I'll be simply lurking a board, and there will be someone who doesn't have any unconverted pets and doesn't look too rich, and everyone ignores them. Even though they are willing to chat, and seem like a very nice person, people just pretend they aren't there. But then, someone with a whole account full of Draiks and Krawks and unconverteds comes along, and straight away everyone starts talking to them. No one cares whether or not they are actually a nice person; they have an outstanding account, and so that's all that matters. I believe this is a completely wrong way to judge people, because just because someone isn't rolling in millions of Neopoints, that doesn't mean they aren't a nice person. I've talked to many people who don't have Draiks/UCs/Krawks, but still, they put effort into their account and pets; and they are truly amazing people. I'm not saying that people with expensive pets aren't nice, just that no-one should be judged by their account, as that is an extremely inaccurate way to tell if someone if worth talking to or not. (:

Dear Guildless Neopians and Guild Leaders of Neopia,
As a guild leader, one thing that annoys me more than anything is non-Neopets related guilds, for several reasons.
To begin, this is a Neopets site, and therefore poorly equipped to accommodate interests on things such as Harry Potter and Twilight. There are hundreds of other fansites on the web, all of which do a much better job of covering all aspects of fandom. If you're looking for a place to discuss these things, you're much better off visiting one of these sights than trying to create a guild for it on Neopets. As, most importantly, this would be against Neopets Terms and Conditions. Secondly, it's just flat annoying. These types of fads and passing trends are overrated and unappreciated by a large population of Neopets players--Neopets is an interest we can all agree on, that's why we're here. Please leave all your vampire and broomstick obsessions at the door, and quit disturbing the peace for those of us trying to escape the wonderful world of wizardry. Lastly, nobody likes Twilight. If they say they do, they're really just lying to themselves. Thank you. Sincerely, Your Fellow Neopian |
That was the day where day everything would change. I knew it when I woke up in the morning. Today is special I thought. Today will be different.
Then I got doubtful. The day started out like it usually did--Me waking up, eating hurriedly and then trotting out the door to the studio in Neopia Central.
I decided to work on my paintings, and as I searched for my oil paints the first change occured. I was always the first person at work; today there was someone else there.
She was a pretty shadow usul, wearing an old T-shirt and sweats, just like me. Her hair was pulled back and she had no jewlery--nothing that could cause problems with her painting.
Hello there." She greeted me with a smile. I muttered a greeting back and turned to my painting.
A few hours into my Shenkuu landscape I took my usual break for lunch. The others working in the studio, who had slowly trickled in while I was busy, were talking animatedly about lunch plans. No one bothered to include me in the conversation, and that didn't bother me any more than usual. I was a bit shocked when the usul tapped my arm to get my attention.
Where are you having lunch?" She asked in a friendly sort of way. She was new, after all, so I supposed that she wasn't making fun of me, she just didn't know how things always went here.
The pizzeria." I answered automatically.
Mind if I tag along?" She asked. "I don't feel like taking the ferry to Brightvale with the others." I just shrugged. So we went over to the little pizzeria and ate in a silence that slowly grew more and more awkward. I wanted to talk to her, but was scared of annoying her.
You're quiet." She commented as we started on our way back.
There's not usually anyone for me to talk to." I told her. She made a face and looked down.
Rude of them not to talk to you at all," She muttered. "Considering you see them every day.
I don't mind." I told her, but I could tell she didn't believe me.
As I continued my painting and she worked on her own, I thought about this kind stranger. How she'd changed my bland day so drastically. I frowned at my painting for a long time without really seeing it. Then a gentle hand on my shoulder brought me back to the present.
You okay?" She asked in a soft voice. I nodded. "I have something to show you.
She clapped a hand over my eyes and tugged me over to her station. With a flourish she pulled her hand away. I stared in shock at her painting. It was me. Me, frowning at my landscape and looking misty-eyed. I felt a smile break out on my face.
You like it?" She asked anxiously.
I love it." I whispered.
Then you can have it. It's yours." She declared. I started to protest but she cut me off. "No, really. I made it for you.
Thank you." I told her quietly.
I couldn't stand to see you all alone there. If you try to be more social I'll try to become a better friend. Deal?
I smiled wider a the word friend. "Deal." I promised her. And I made the handshake that ended up changing who I am.

I never really understood the kind of arguments that break out the neoboards sometimes over what I find to be really silly reasons. And there's a difference between the just for fun troll boards, the discussion and debate boards, and the just plain useless argumentative boards (which can all mix in together sometimes, I admit, but you can tell the difference often times). But in these useless argumentative boards, I just don't understand why no one can find a middle ground or why no one actually reads anyone else's comments from the other side of the argument. Usually posts with complete sense get ignored and only the worse points get picked up. It goes even go so far as to attack other people on a totally unrelated standpoint. There are definitely people just trying to ampt up the chaos, and other people become overly defensive. People are blinded to their own viewpoints and usually it gets no where. The uselessness of it bothers me.

My least favorite challenge was Day 14 "Create a comic using an inanimate object." It was my least favorite, because I struggled to come up with ideas for it so it was the most difficult for me. But, it did help me in my way of thinking for if I ever decide to make a comic for the NT. I thought you did an awesome job of coming up with ideas for the challenges and they were really helpful to me. I plan to re-do the character/short story ones for all my permanent pets over time, because they were so helpful. For my Day 31 Challenge, I am continuing to work on Ezulla's story constantly adding to it and editing it. I try to work on it at least every other day. I will submit it or something else to the NT when I have finished.

My least favorite challenge was the "Conduct an Interview" challenge...because for some reason, it seemed to give me the most trouble and was the one I finished last. Though this was probably due to over-thinking, I just didn't enjoy it.

I disliked the challenge where we chose a theme and tried to portray it, because I don't like theme writing. I think when you write somtimes a theme will come out but writing for a theme sometimes makes stories seem really contrived. But I got over it and did the challenge anyways, and actually liked what I came up with.

Hmmm... my least favorite challenge was probably Day 21, only because although I could see it's use, I couldn't really think of anything I could write about that would really pertain to the narrative stories I plan to enter into the NT one day. For future writing challenges, I suggest maybe putting more focus on getting an article/story/series/comic done through more of the month, rather than towards the end, with some exercises to get get you thinking in the beginning? Despite saying that, I really did like all the little challenges and think they really helped through my thoughts and just writing for writing's sake. Plus I think you did a great job hosting it, Sunny (:
