So you want to learn how to play?
Keyquest may seem complicated at first, but once you learn a few simple strategies you will be winning most of your games in no time! But it's also important to keep in mind: "The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray." Many times the only difference between winning and losing a game of Keyquest is luck or computer speed. However, with this guide you will hopefully be able to even out the odds a little bit. ;-) While the Tutorial provided by TNT will teach you how to play, this guide will give you a competitive edge!

NOTE: This guide is for two-player five keys games. Even if you lose a game, you will still get a silver key for a five-key game, which can at leat nab you a codestone or two.

The Starting Homes
Photobucket Before the game begins, each player rolls the dice. The player who rolls the highest number gets to go first and chooses the starting neohome of his/her choice. Why is this an advantage? Here's the thing: Not all of the neohomes are equal! Choose wisely. Most experienced players, you may have noticed, will go for the faerie house (bottom left). The second best choice is the regular neohome (bottom right). These two offer the quickest routes to all of the keys.

The Faerie Home The Normal Home
Starting from the Faerie home, go for the keys in this order: white, green, red, then blue. You will have to get the yellow key by winning a game or cleverly using a powerup. Starting from the Normal home, go for the keys in this order: blue, yellow, green, red. You will have to get the white key by winning a game or using a powerup.
NOTE: After receiving the blue key, you must use the teleporter.

MINIGAMES!
keyy NOVA MATCHER
One of my least favorite minigmes, primarily because usually the player with the faster computer will win. In this minigame, you must match the novas as quickly as possible. My best advice is to just start fast.
SPYDER SCARE
The point of this game is to collect as may pieces of machinery as you can in the time allowed. The Spyder's eyes point which way he will jump down and grab the machinery. At the bottom, there are light blue and purple glowing orbs. The light blue ones will speed your Spyder up, and the purple ones will freeze your opponent!
PETPETPET SNARE
This is another minigame in which a fast computer will really come in handy. Try to circle the "target bugs" with your mouse as fast as you can. The target bug is the bug in the upper right corner of the screen. You cannot snare any bugs other than the target. The target will change after one species is entirely captured.
FAERIE LABYRINTH
Try to finish the maze before your opponent. Break through wooden barriers by clicking on them rapidly with your mouse. A fast computer definitly helps.
DARING DIG
Try to collect as many gems as you can and reach the bottom within the time limit. You will receive a few extra points for reaching the finish line first, but doing so is by no means a garunteed win.

Alignments
Each character has an alignment (earth, air, water, fire). If you go to your trophy case and click on your active character, a box will pop and tell you the alignment. There are alignment squares all over the board - if you land on a square that matches the alignment of your character, you will get a super-power-up! If you have a loaded gummy die, it is well worth using it to land on your alignment square. But if you have a water alignment and you land on a fire square, watch out! You could get sent back to your home square or lose a power-up!
