Cheryl's (Secret) Invent Feeding Guide for Mewbies

Thanks to Montse for the l-a-y-o-u-t ;) Last updated January 8, 2010.

Introduction

Already read the other guides but just can't seem to feed because you think you're too slow? Well, if you still have some patience, this guide is for you, grasshopper!

This is a guide about invent feeding. The two biggest pros to invent feeding are a high success rate if one of your foods comes out (for me, probably at least 75% of the time) and you buy all of your foods before hand so you're not paying more than you have to (especially if you're like me: a stingy restocker without SSW XD). The biggest cons are that you have to buy your foods beforehand, and your foods don't always come up, so you won't feed every main, and you could be waiting for a while. That is why patience is necessary, but you will eventually get one using this method, and meanwhile you're not spending extra nps. Also, I know that a lot of mewbies have trouble with the refreshing part, so this is good practice for that...once you get the hang of refreshing, the more advanced methods i.e. SDB and wiz feeding become easier.

P.S. The reason this is a secret guide is because invent feeders always pwn me and I'd rather there be no more invent feeders than necessary. ;)

Choosing an Invent

There are 2300+ foods currently that kads could ask for. So how to choose? There are 2 foodlists at the end of this guide: one is grouped by words in common, and the other is grouped by the kind of food (Merifoods, Faerie, etc.). I refer to both of these lists...thanks to Cathy and Toni for keeping them up!

I start with Cathy's list of grouped foods. Basically, I scan the list for a group that has between 15 to 55 foods in it, then I pick one that I like. Today, I picked the "spicy" group because I accidentally ate a giant lump of wasabi stuck to my sushi last night. Also, I like smaller groups because other people are not as likely to choose the same invent, though I know lots of people have succeeded with "cheese", which is a giant group. If you pick a group that has more than 50 items, you should only choose 50 of those items. If you keep more than that in your invent, it's called overstuffing or OS'ing. While not strictly against the rules, it's rumoured that some people in the past have been frozen for it. It's also lame because real kadninjas feed legitimately - just remember that it is a game and if you take an unfair advantage you're taking it waaay too seriously.

Anyway, back to "spicy". Yikes! There's an expensive item in that group: Spicy Kau Burger. I'm stingy so I ain't buying it. Spicy Taco Pizza sounds gross and costs more than the 2,500nps I like to spend for one food so I'm not buying that one either. I put all these foods in my SDB so I can be sure that I got all the foods I was going to buy. Oops, some of the items are "spice" instead of "spicy", so I search for "spic" in my SDB. And yay, I got 15 foods (17 in the group minus the 2 I'm not buying), see in this pic?

Now what, I still have room for 35 foods in my invent! I look at Toni's foodlist and get all the Kreludor foods (that are within my price limit) and for the room that's left a few Space station foods. Woot 50 items and my invent is ready to go!

Preparing for a Refresh

So now you're almost ready for a refresh. Of course, that means you know when the next refresh is...There's a time system, and there's something about 7 minutes or other (I'll explain below;). There's a Times and Lists ("T/L") board on the games chat that gives you the time, see in this pic:
Photobucket

The last post with the time is the next refresh time, a.k.a. "main". The times refer to the minutes, so if it says "main @ :40" and it's 8:15pm NST (see the clock under "logout"?), that means there's a POSSIBLE refresh at 8:40:20, i.e. 20 seconds into the minute Please note some of the other guides have not been updated, the kads used to refresh right on the minute, but that is no longer the case. That's only a possible time, so it may not refresh, or "go"; then we use the phrase "main pending" to list the next possible time, which will be 7 minutes away. Main can "pend" a few times until it "goes". Once main goes, there's at least a 28 minute gap before the next main. "Minis" are when only one or a few kads refresh and happen after an unbuyable has been fed more than 7 minutes after main. For a more detailed explanation of times, please refer to the link in the introductory post of the T/L board.

Yay! Now we know when the next main is, we can head over to the Kadoatery. I have a tab or window just for the Kadoatery so I can just click on it right before refresh time. At the Kadoatery, you want to open up the search bar (Ctrl + F). I'm not sure how it works on other browsers, but I assume it's similar. I type in "spic" before the refresh. I circled it in magenta below. The yellow circle shows the neo clock, the one you'll follow at refresh time.

Feeding time!

A few seconds before main time, I press F5 to make sure my neo clock is not lagging. Also, I hover my pointer at the "next" button on my search bar. Since June 2009, the kads have been refreshing between :20 and :30 past the minute, so I keep pounding F5 until the kads refresh or until 35 seconds past the minute just to be safe.

If the kads refresh, if the site is laggy, only two or three kads may appear - in that case I press F5 again. I want to see that there's at least two rows of kads (by seeing the row on the top, and the outlines in the second row). Ideally, all or most of the 20 kads will have loaded. If you are trying to check quickly how many kads have loaded, you can press the space bar.

If I feel like enough kads have loaded, I click on the "next" button. If there is a kad that wants a food with "spic", my search function will highlight it. Then I quickly click on the kad! Look, I got one!! I was expecting to wait for 4 or 5 mains, but I was lucky this time and I only waited 2 mains:

If nothing came up, I would then scan the rest of the kads very quickly to see if they wanted a Kreludor food or one of the Space foods that I had. But none came up in my first main, and I didn't have to for my second main. By the way, being able to scan quickly is another useful skill for SDB/wiz feeding ;). It's useful for SDB feeding because you want to be sure it's an item you have, it's also useful for wiz feeding because you don't want to be stuck with an unbuyable item.

And Hoorah! Hopefully this guide helps you with beginning to feed! Like I said before, once you get the hang of refreshing, you can take a couple of items out of your invent and try SDB or wiz feeding. I would suggest keeping some kind of invent, though, and most feeders use a combination of invent and/or SDB and/or wiz feeding. As a final tip, I find it is a lot easier to feed after 10pm NST on weekdays. If you fail, don't lose patience because there is always next main, and GLF!!
