[Another day]

Kahlidah, come here." The voice of my mother echoed in the little room where I was sitting. I'm better not to make her wait; she's the kind to yell at you at for anything that you could do wrong. I still took the time to clean up the mess I just caused, by attempting to sew a new tunic, the one I was currently wearing being too small for my ever growing body. "Hey, Kah, I'm not kidding, it's really important, quit fooling around and go outside now." It must be an emergency, if she actually told me to stop cleaning up after me, for once that I was doing what she is asking me. I stood up and ran outside. "Eh, Ma ? What's going on ?" My mother was paler than usual. She tried to avoid my insisting sight by nervously fiddling a finger in her long cooper hair. The worse is that she tried to don't lay her eyes on me, like if something was wrong with me. "Darling, please, could you go outside, and go pick some fish for dinner. I have something important to do right now, and I can't go. We're awaiting important visit tonight." Oh well. I had way better to do than fishing, but I think there is no way to change her mind. I also didn't want to make her feel worse; she seemed already quite worried. While I stepped out of our little house, I wondered who this "visitor" could be. We're in a quite small village, isolated on the shores of Arma Islands. We're not from an important bloodline, or have important responsibilities and powers down here. From what I recall, the only time I saw my mom nervous like that about a foreigner is when a knight from Selis, the great Capital, stopped here for giving out the King's orders and resting, for continuing his journey the next day. Since it made a long time we had a visit like this, I bet they'll send another one for giving us some news, and my mom has been chosen to welcome his in our humble abode. I looked away. Far, on the other side of this sea, the mainland was here, an ocean of plains covered by dancing grass, where some mountains may torn the land and touch the sky, offering the greatest of the views to the resident of the cities, who lies in the walls of rock. I sometimes wish I could live here, and live a normal life, instead of being stuck here in a forgotten village, but I've heard the life conditions up there were pretty much miserable. But at least, they have food... My stomach agreed by a violent growl, that made me quit my daydreaming. I ran toward the beach, trying to ignore the pain hunger made me go through. It made a while since I've eaten something else than fade fish, coconut, leaves, and occasionally, dry, rotten bread. Lately, the earth is less fertile than it used to be, and we're all struggling to find something else to eat. Maybe it is linked by the lack of storms lately, and the growing temperature due do the harsh sun.
