There is no going back, no mystical switch to rewrite the past.
There is only the future, dark and grim as it may be.
However, there are memories which exist, haunting us of the past which we have lost.
It is not forgotten.
It is never forgotten.
Instead, it lurks forever in the deepest realms of the mind...

I still remember the last happy summer.

It is slightly image heavy.

Forward Notes The narrator to this petpage, being the normal text, is meant to be read in a deep, soothing male voice which makes the reader begin to feel rather calm... Meanwhile, the italicized green text comes from within Jenny's mind, occurring at random times. They may not seem to always make sense. The journals in the purple boxes are from yet another point of view, perhaps Olly or maybe you. Do not worry if you become slightly confused... how much sanity can there possibly be on the page of an insane pet?

4th day, Month of Sleeping So it begins. I have heard many stories about this particular Jenny-being, and they have intrigued me. After all, if I am to find the truth about that painful day, it is necessary for me to find the sole surviving witness to that event. Or, at least, I do believe that she had survived.

5th day, Month of Sleeping After rereading all of the documents related to the topic at hand, I have come to the conclusion that finding Jenny will not be an easy task. I began packing for the upcoming journey, all the while knowing that there is no way to prepare for all of the challenges may encounter. If she happens to remain among the living, then it is only because her intelligence allowed for it.

6th day, Month of Sleeping I bought ferry tickets to Maraqua today. After rereading Lanzer's journals, I decided that Jenny may be hiding in what he referred to as his Ocean Paradise. According to his description, it is a rather wild region in an underwater cave complex. Seems ideal.

8th day, Month of Sleeping Ferry left today. Of course, I am on it. I cannot help but wonder how this Jenny character is doing, and, more importantly, what she is thinking. If only I could understand this, I would be one step closer to finding her.

10th day, Month of Sleeping I have arrived. And so the search begins. One question haunts me... Who is Jenny?

I still remember his laugh. Lanzer's.
He had a very pretty laugh, rather short but nonetheless pleasing.
It was the laugh you would do anything, absolutely anything, to hear again.
I miss that laugh.

the innocent

Name Jenovia
Alias Jen, Jenny

Species Shoy Nymph
Gender Female
Birthday 23rd day of the Month of Storing
Age Adolescent (estimated at 17), but she was a mere child when the Tragedy occurred.
Paint Unconverted Darigan Shoyru

Personality Jenny was once a social little thing, but that was in Lanzer's time. She used to laugh and smile like the rest of them, enjoying life's simple pleasures. Like most young children, her dreams were filled with blissful futures for both herself and her loved ones. This was, of course, until the Tragedy. After this traumatic event, Jenny fled. She lost all faith in others, thus leaving herself secluded from society. Depression overtook her as memories of better days nearly faded into oblivion until only mere remnants of them remained. However, these remnants were enough to torture poor Jenny's already corrupted soul into a state of utter despair until, at last, her mind crushed under the pressure. She now exists as an empty shell, with nothing but long forgotten memories left.
Mental Status Quite insane.

Likes The sound of poetry, flowers, being surrounded by large bodies of water, chilly morning breezes, peppermints, and the color ciel.
Loathes Cinnamon, loud noises, bees, shades of blue other than ciel or cobalt, icky fosters, and any drinks that even remotely taste like Pepsi.

Design Concept Jenny's personality is loosely inspired by the character Norma Restarick in Agatha Christie's Poirot Novel titled The Third Girl. This is where the Last Happy Summer theme originated.

Backstory Like very few Shoy Nymphs, Jenny was a twin. However, because Shoy Nymphs tend to care for only one child at a time, she was abandoned and left to die at the base of a willow tree when she was only a newborn. By a sheer luck and coincidence, a young krawk boy of nobility happened to be frolicking by only moments later and found her. This was Lanzer. He brought her home with him, almost as if he had found a new pet, and asked if she could stay. His parents, though horrified at the superstitions about these little beings, decided to allow for it, thinking that the infant would die quickly under Lanzer's care. She did not. Instead, Lanzer ensured that Jenny, as he would dub her, was healthy and happy, treating her as his only sister. They were the closest of siblings... that is, up until the fateful day that the Tragedy forced them apart.

(hover to scroll)

Physique Like all Shoy Numphs, Jenny has a slightly rounded body with a tuft of soft fur protruding from the base of her nearly nonexistent neck, in a nearly white shade of light violet (#FBF0FC). The rest of her body is covered by smooth fur, ranging in color of various shades of lavender (#F9E8FB to E5D4E7). Her eyes lack eyelids, and happen to both be rather large. She has one tooth, located on her lower jaw. It is used primarily for tearing her food, whereas her rough gums are used for chewing. and a brilliant shade of bright green (#00FF00), also lacking cornea and pupils. Instead of using the typical system of vision, she sees the world by feeling the minuscule vibrations of the air (or water) around her, resulting in a complex system where she sees, hears, and feels instantaneously. Her eyes are the main center for this, but the ear-like formations on the top of her head serve a similar purpose. Beneath each eye are three markings of the same color, and on her forehead is a single horn. In actuality, every bright green marking on Jenny's body (face, flippers, feet, tail) is a spot which happens to be ultra-sensitive to waves, but, of course, not to the same degree as her eyes. On the contrary, the dark purple (#630460) markings (flippers, back, wings, tail, hip) are heat-sensitive, thus filling in any gaps which the green may have left and ensuring that she will still sense things which may be standing still. Jenny's front limbs, what most would consider arms, are actually flippers for the purpose of gliding in either air or water. Typically, they hang limply in front of her, but find strength when she is in the water. On the inner portions of each fin are three green markings and one purple in an almost paw-like formation. Her lower limbs, the so-called legs, are rather short and small for her size. Her feet are three-toed paws, with a small nail at the end of each. There is a green star-like marking on the inside of her feet. Jenny's tail is medium length and not too flexible. Last, but certainly not least, would be her wings. They happen to be perhaps the most interesting detail about her, seeing as they serve the triple purpose of wings, limbs, and hands. When she is not in flight or in the water, Jenny is able to roll up her wings into a sort of tube extending from her shoulder. She is then able to move each of the three so-called fingers slightly, in order to grasp onto objects. Furthermore, these makeshift arms are long enough to reach the ground when Jenny is in a crouching position, and thus can be used as a set of front legs. They happen to have the darker purple marks in several places, including on the outside portion of each finger and star-like shapes on the inner region.

Shoy Nymphs There has been a rather long and drawn out debate over the purpose of Shoy Nymphs. Despite how fascinating the topic may seem, the points brought up tend to be rather boring. Some people simply have the ability to do that. The main question is, however, whether Shoy Nymphs serve some greater purpose in the balance of life, the universe, and everything else. It was long been believed that they possessed magical powers, but alas, this has been disproved. They are, however, among the few species equipped fully for life in the air, on the ground, and in the water. So it is widely accepted that rather than having magic themselves, they represent some sort of balance. Of course, this might all just be the ramblings of rather nerdy scientists that need to go out into the world more often. Who knows. The point is that Shoy Nymphs may or may not be special, and that they have a tendency to abandon their young. Please ignore if that last point has not been covered and pretend that it was.

I still remember that laugh.
At least, I think that I do.
It is hard to,
But it is also impossible not to.

It was on the last happy day...

Trastella Up until the Tragedy, Trastella was actually a rather pleasant being - seemingly the perfect lady. She was likely to become Lanzer's wife if all went according to plan. Alas, it did not.

Laughter.

This was common, in the days before the Tragedy. Perhaps one of the most common sounds to be heard.

It just so happens that the day before the Tragedy was a rather happy day indeed, filled with even more laughter than usual. The mid-afternoon sun was warm while a cool breeze played with the green grass. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, their petals occasionally being caught in the weak breeze and carried.

Come here, Jenny, Lanzer called, the laughter from moments ago still strongly evident on his voice.

He lay on his back, resting on his favorite burgundy robe. His clothing was wet from the dip into the stream he had just taken, and thus clung to his skin. Beside him was his heart's love, Trastella, playfully slapping him whenever he would try to shake his blonde head to dry his hair. She, too, was laughing, as were the various others. The day was perfect.

Jenny floated over to Lanzer and landed in his lap. He wrapped his arms around her in a rather tight sibling embrace. He was, after all, the only family whom she had ever known after having been abandoned by the other Shoy Nymphs. She nuzzled his neck playfully, fully content with her situation in life. This was bliss.

After a while, Trastella sat up. We should go to the market, tomorrow, she said casually, Jenny could use a necklace or something of the sort.

Jenny hid her face in Lanzer's chest, trying to cover her blush. She had never been one to accept gifts, something which both Trastella and Lanzer knew well.

In response, Lanzer laughed his hearty laugh. Jenny would never be able to fully forget this moment.

14th day, Month of Sleeping I hadn't the slightest clue how much Maraquans celebrate Sloth Appreciation Day. No luck so far as to finding Jenny. Nobody knows of her whereabouts, or, at least, they all pretend not to.

15th day, Month of Sleeping S

29th day, Month of Sleeping I appear to have somehow angered the authorities. On the eve of the 15th day, just as I was sitting down to write my journal entry, two large skeiths barged into my temporary residence and dragged me out. I was arrested for Disturbing the Peace or something along those lines. Luckily, I managed to post bail earlier this morning. I am now leaving Maraqua, seeing as there is clearly nothing else to find here. Perhaps Kiko Lake will hold some answers?

31th day, Month of Sleeping I arrived in Kiko Lake and found a rather pleasant hut to rent for a while. The renters have promised me some peace and quiet as I continue my search.

1st day, Month of Awakening It rained today, a good sign. Rain symbolizes new hope. The natives here are friendlier, at least. I met with several Shoyrus, but they do not know of any Shoy Nymphs around. They said that there is a rumor about one hiding in the jungles, though. I am tempted to look into it.

3rd day, Month of Awakening I have packed all of the supplies which I deem necessary for my journey into the jungle. This will not be an easy endeavor.

4th day, Month of Awakening A storm came out of nowhere. The weather forecast promises rain now, for the rest of the week. However, I have no choice but to continue my quest.

It is raining now.

I like the rain.

Sometimes,

in the fiercest of rain,

I think of him,

and forget my pain.

7th day, Month of Awakening I found the oddest thing today - some sketches of shoyrus hanging on the wall. It appears that they are there to be taken by any visitor, but I dare not touch them yet.

8th day, Month of Awakening Curiosity got the better of me, my friend. I grabbed one off of the wall, and found a most curious mark behind it. There was a Shoy Nymph here recently. Could it be... Jenny? Can I really be this close?

9th day, Month of Awakening I looked around some more where I found the sketches. I believe that I found a passageway. I wonder what lies beyond it...

10th day, Month of Awakening The path leads nowhere. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. my hopes have been raised so high only to discover nothing and tumult back down. To make matters worse, the rains damaged my tent and ruined my supplies. I have no choice but to turn back now.

11th day, Month of Awakening At least the rains stopped. Clouds remain, yes, but thankfully there is no rain. This makes it bearable, but barely. In the distance, I see sunlight. There might be some hope for me to make it back by nightfall.

12th day, Month of Awakening Alas, I did not reach Kiko Lake last night. Apparently, I was going in the wrong direction. I am lost now, hopelessly lost. There are no tracks, and all of these trees look the same... With what little I have left, it will be a miracle if I make it out at all. Who even bothers hoping for miracles anymore?

13th day, Month of Awakening There will be no miracles. It is over, all over.

I remember it as if it were yesterday...
I feel as if it is my only memory.
I see these images every time I close my eyes.

I still cannot understand -

Why?

jenny's tragedy

What was the Tragedy?

This is a rather simple question, often asked by those unaware of the events which occurred on that fateful day. In reality, there are two separate tragedies which occurred; one as an inevitable result of the other. They are both referred to as the Tragedy primarily because of this reason, and also because many of those misfortunate enough to have been involved can tell them apart anyway. In a sense, these two events, one exactly a year after the first, are simply components of the same misfortune. The victims of the Tragedy are now resentful of the same forces which once held society together, specifically, one person.

Lanzer's definition of the Tragedy would differ from the others'. To him, the original Tragedy, the first one, was the cursing of Trastella. To the others, it was losing Lanzer.

To summarize a tale as long and complicated as the Tragedy is not a simple task. Jenny's place in this story is even odder. Though not Lanzer himself, would it have been possible for her to have prevented the second portion of the Tragedy? Could she have held society together?

There were no omens, no warnings of the terrible fates unfolding. The events may have been brewing for a while, but those involved were unaware.

The Tragedy began on a rather chilly evening in the Spring, when most Neopians in the region could be found snuggling up to a warm fireplace or furnace. This was an unexpected cold wave, so most of the warm winter blankets and clothing had already been put away. Jenny lay, asleep, near Lanzer as he read a book, a rather common situation. Lanzer was always reading, and, due to her species' inability to see, Jenny had a tendency to curl up by his side and nap during this procedure. Sometimes, he would read aloud to her, broadening her horizons. She enjoyed such times, but never demanded them. That night, both were simply too exhausted because of the extended sermon Lanzer had led earlier. Soon, they would turn in for the night.

An eerie mist somehow found its way through the cracks around the windows and the doors, the change of pressure awakening Jenny. She sat up and looked around, blinded by the particles of the mist. She felt Lanzer reach over and pull her over, closer to him.

What is happening? Jenny asked.

I'm not sure, Lanzer answered, frightened.

An ominous silence fell. The wild petpetpets outside stopped chirping, the wild avian petpets stopped singing, and the three heads of French - Lanzer's Hydruplit, stopped snoring. All was still; all was quiet. The thought of breaking this silence seemed far too frightening, as if there was a beast lurking about.

Unknown to the two Neopets in the room, events were unfolding in a deserted fairground at this very moment - Trastella, having decided to take a moonlight stroll, was taking a ride on the Carousel of Best Intentions… she was currently halfway through the process of transforming into the demon which she would become. This was Lanzer's Tragedy.

On the following morning, Trastella would be discovered to be missing. Lanzer, heartbroken, would set out on a journey to find her. This is the Tragedy - Lanzer choosing to leave his people to follow his love. His desertion of them would lead to the seeds of resentment being planted; eventually being nurtured into a profound hatred of everything that Lanzer had ever stood for. The peace he had established, the system of charity and goodwill, and everything else would collapse... leading, inevitably, to the second Tragedy.

The second Tragedy would occur a year later, when the common peasants would overthrow the few citizens trying to uphold what Lanzer had established. This would lead to the Count Van Dradx being transformed into a plushie, the jester Zy disappearing, and so forth. Stories for other times.

Perhaps, had Lanzer returned, this could have all been avoided. Alas, as Jenny knew, he was physically unable to. Death, after all, is a plausible excuse for not returning.

Jenny was misfortunate enough to be present at Lanzer's end. She was not the only one. Shortly after Lanzer had embarked on his quest to find Trastella, Jenny decided to go after him. She followed the minute traces he left with every breath, something that only Shoy Nymphs were attuned to. Alas, her small and weak body was too slow to catch up to him, at least, before the end. There are rumors that she could have reminded him of what he was leaving behind, seeing as she was his heart's second love. They claim that she could have forced him to turn back. No.

When, at last, she reached Lanzer, Jenny was already too late. She made it through the forest and to the cliff's edge just as Lanzer was lunging at Trastella. She saw the small plushie jump aside, and watched with horror as Lanzer found himself unable to stop mid-jump. He fell off of the side of the cliff face. The cliff was high. There was a wildfire at the base.

Had Lanzer somehow miraculously survived the fall, the fire would have killed him.

Jenny, horrified at how Trastella had not only allowed, but also planned, this maneuver, was torn. A little portion of her soul, her sanity, burrowed itself deep into her heart as the rest burned in an inferno thousands of times more devastating than the one which Lanzer had just fallen into. She flew up as high as her wings would take her and then let herself fall. Jenny landed in a stream, letting the current take her wherever it chose. She had not a care left in the world. Her intellect was, of course, untouched, but that was all that she had left - body and intelligence. No heart, no soul.

Jenoviais not dead, no. This is worse, much worse. She is now suffering from a fate much worse than death.

I wonder what they would say, if they knew...

14th day, Month of Awakening How ironic... The day of love, and yet there is nothing lovely here. I am still lost, hopelessly.

17th day, Month of Awakening A miracle occurred. Someone (or thing) left a package of food and supplies out on my path. I can keep going a little longer.

18th day, Month of Awakening I feel some new hope. A quote comes to mind, One has to be lost to find what cannot be found. I cannot quite remember where I had heard it before, but I feel like I may prove it to be true sometime soon.

23th day, Month of Awakening I have only been able to continue forward because of the items which are constantly being left in front of me. I think that there is somebody (or something) following me and occasionally darting ahead. I dare not get my hopes up that it may be Jenny.

Flowers...

I like flowers.
Lanzer used to give me them.
I think...
I cannot quite remember...

25th day, Month of Awakening What is this... snow?

I see snow.

It was snowing on that day.

For the first time in a while,

I think that I remember...

Can it be?

Is there hope after all?

I feel... different.
Something is changing.

I am scared.

26th day, Month of Awakening Luckily, there happened to be a blanket nearby... I wonder. Anyway, I see a paved road ahead. Hopefully, it will lead me back to Kiko Lake.

14th day, Month of Running What happened? I fell asleep, and... woke up sixteen days later. I do not understand. What is this madness? I am here, in the same place, but... something is different.

15th day, Month of Running The road leads to an abandoned hut. I still do not understand.

16th day, Month of Running This is it. Either I have found Jenny, or I have not. I do not have the strength to go on farther. Either she is in this hut, or she is not. Wish me luck.

What is this?

A rock.
The same rock.
Is it following me?

I see... a person.

These feelings...

I do not understand them.
