Where to begin it was all so long ago. . . This story is much to long to tell from the begining. But where else to start. . . Along the beaten path that we call life there are many things that happen to all along the way. Weather good or bad, do I know why? No, through my long years I have yet to discover the true meaning in life. I once heard that life is short live it to the fullest. How untrue that is. . . at least for me. Dont mind me I shall stop rambling now and go on with the story. For that is why you are here is it not?
And so I begin . . .
3,000 years ago . . . .
I was once a great pharoh of both upper and lower Egypt, oh so long ago. I had many freinds but none were as loyal to me as Ezkayban both my beloved freind and trusted high priest.
Theres a thing with the high priests of the great castles, they always have folklore and secrets that only they know. It is passed down from one high priest to another and only they know about them. Even a pharoh such as myself had never been told. But Ezkay being my childhood freind trusted me with 'the' secret. He told me everything about it. What is the secret you ask. . . Why of course it is the Elixir of Everlasting Life. He told me that only one other had used it, not on themselves but on fruit trees and wheat. It had been founded by mistake and should never ever be used. Oh but I longed for it, how I wanted it. . . Like any other mortal I feared death, yes I feared it like no other.
Ezkay had been foolish in telling me about the potion, telling me that it did exist and that it was hidden somewhere, and that he even knew of its resting place. My hunger for it grew all the more fearce as he continued telling me of it. And when I demanded to see it he did not try to sway me, didnt try to stop me. He led me right to it, for all his loyalty he did not have the power of will or mind to say the simple word "No". And so . . . now my tale begins to unfold itself. Taking you through twists and turns, revealing to you what you never imagined possible . . . .
He took me outside of the palace and we wound our way down the twisting pathways. Bright eyed and eager I followed him as he took me outside my great city, bringing me forth to the great tombs. I stared forward at him, could this possibly be where the elixir was hidden. What gastly fool would put it here, where the robbers could get to it.
He came to a stop right before an old burial chamber and opened the door and led me inside. I looked around but didnt have enough time as he began padding forward and I was forced to follow, deep within the dark catatombs of the dreadful place. The deeper we went the more ghastly it seemed to me. He took me through what he began calling 'the secret passage ways'. Finally he stopped, and I looked up trying to figure out just why we had stopped. There I found myself at two large great wooden doors, their burgundy shimmered in the darkness, as I looked closer at the doors I could see that they were inlayed with silver and gold, which sparkled making the darkness not seem so forbidding.
Ezkay turned to me beseechingly as I tried to shove past him. He shoved me against once of the sandy walls 'What you see here you must not take it! You must not drink it! Swear it to me!' he cried.
I ignored him and shoved him off of myself. Turning toward the doors I threw them open, finding myself in a quiet chamber. I stood there in the open doorway, my almond eyes searching the room. The chamber was lighted and it took my eyes a while to ajust to the scene I now beheld. I looked up, staring stupidly at a small window above the chamber, the window of course was opened and the sunlight was streaming in through it. Long streamers of dust flowed down and I followed the almost sparkling streamers, much like that of a ever flowing and changing waterfall. I blinked as I found myself staring at a single flask. I looked around, there was nothing else in the room. Just the single dusty flask resting steadily on a small table of sorts. I padded toward it, its dull tan color seemingly never changed as I drew ever closer.
Ezkay padded behind me sullenly his deep brown eyes downcast and full of sorrow and what seemed to be regret. I stopped at the bottle before me, the surface of it covered completely in a thick layer of gray and brown dust. I lifted the potion gently from its perch, it was almost as light as a feather. I turned a hard look at Ezkay, but my eyes softened as I saw his sullen look, I spoke in a soothing tone to him and reassured him that it would all be okay.
I lifted the bottle to get a better look at it then uncorking it I peered inside, a milkish white substance was within. But it wasnt exactly milk white, it was translucent and yet it had a variety of other colors mingled in it as well. The swirled and shimmered endlessly in the substance.
I lifted the neck of the bottle to my lips and took a long deep gulp of it. I set the flask down where it had rested before. Suddenly a great wave of pain swept through me, causing me to double over in complete agony. I was dimly aware of Ezkay backing away from me, but I did not seem to care. The pain came again, now in great pulses that seemed endless as they tore through my body. I fell to the sandy ground, landing with a dull thud. I shut my almond eyes against the pain as it continued to roll its way through me.
The pain it was ending, I let out a rattling gasp as I realized this and shuddered noticably. I opened my eyes and rose to my feet, and turned to find Ezkay staring at me in complete terror. I pulled away from him as I saw his look. Ye Gods what has happened to me was all I could think of as Ezkay looked at me. I turned away from him, not wanting to see his shocked and horrified gaze, and I as well did not want him to see the hurt that was inside my eyes as well. I didnt want any other to know about the elixer for fear they might try to take it from me, I also did not want anyone to know what had happened to me. Ye Gods what was I saying! This would mean that the innocent would die, this means that my beloved freind Ezkay would die!
But I knew what must happen and what must be done. I turned back toward him and lunged at him, knowing only that it was for the best. I sank my teeth into Ezkay's soft fleshy neck, and as I felt him go limp in my hold I let go, tears streaming down my muzzle. I whispered silently into his deaf ears, 'I'm sorry my dear freind.' With that I turned away and walked up to the flask which held the elixer and picked it up once again.
But I turned back to Ezkay knowing that the more I stayed here the more hurt I would suffer. So I walked up to Ezkay and reached down for the belt of potions he always carried with him. There I found 4 small empty jars, much smaller than the flask. And I poured some of the elixer into each. Knowing only that I must protect it, and see to it that no-one else would be condemed as I was. I slipped the four small jars into the belt and slipped the belt over my neck. I looked one last time at Ezkay and padded out into the empty corridors once again.
I shut the wooden doors behind me and began to pad out, but stopped as my eyes came to rest on a mirror, hanging on the side of the corridor. I looked at it and stepped up to see my profile more clearly in its smooth suface. I was stunned by this. My once beautifully almond eyes were now stunningly blue like the overcast sky, my once slim body was now hard and masculain, and my fur. My had it changed, it had once been a dull brown mixed with sandy textures. But now my face was that of dark gray sand, but just beyond my now masked face the rest of my body was a shiney copper color.
I blinked it couldnt be. . . I wept aloud then my cries that would never be heard. I had killed my beloved Ezkay for nothing, what I thought was best wasnt. I realized this, Ezkay was loyal but it seemed that for all my intelect I was not rational. There it seems that . . .
