If you can think of any more "useless clues" that are of little help to someone without a clue what the answer is but are clever references to the answer or a witty way to misdirect the way to the answer while telling the truth (no lying allowed) THEN NeoMail me or you can email me via qazwiz AT gMail DOT com

(For those who have never heard of div, this scrolling box, and each of the other four to the left of this box, are created using the div tag.)(div stands for division)

So, just what is base? when you see "11" you say it is eleven.... but it is only what we call "eleven" (1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1) when you are talking base-10... in base eight (aka octal) it is what base ten calls nine, in base five it is worth just six.

in a nut-shell, the base of a number tells the multiplier of each succesively larger digit, (compaired to the multiplier of the previous digit)

in all bases, the first digit has a multiplier of one... in base ten the second digit(from the right) is ten times that, or TEN, then hundred(10x10) and thousand.... but base five they are one, five, twenty-five, one-hundred twenty-five, etc

The useless clues gave you a list of all the four-unique-digit four digit numbers with each numbers digits sorted. only one would return to the same four digits when the reverse of itself was subtracted from itself (7641 - 1467 = 6174). Since TNT said it was the reverse the Lenny paid for submitting 4716

  • I romed all over Neopia until the Uni kicked me in my kiester.
  • Don't NeoMail me about my Spellchecker but if you have a good syntax checker I'm all ears

the key to my clue was the word romed, a spellchecker would claim it should be roameed but as spelled is how it should be.... a syntax checker would see that it should be spelled Romed since it is based on Rome, for Roman Numerals... the uni stomps once for each letter in the roman numerals, so thirty-three is "XXXIII" for the answer Six (or 6)

the following was based on the size being perfect for a dot matrix 5x7 with a single column seperating each of the three letters

I have narrowed it down to four neopets but still don't know which is correct. Just need the key so I figured out the key and it made letters no higher than five and that is wrong of course.... it is NOT Koi, Kau, Ixi or Uni. it is smaller than that.

I consider this puzzle "Borderline Nothingness" since the entire outside frame was empty

Oh, you darken the prime numbers and the word "buzz" appears

the hint I liked the most... (not my original idea but...) is... Lights, Camera.... ACTION!!!because they appear on the avtion page of games

will help if you you like peanuts then you will like TNT's peanut butter TNT's peanut butter is "SKIPPY" alluding to the skipped the apple jacks game so you needed to skip the other sponsored game too

ignoring sponsored games is a good thing most of the time since they can be added or subtracted at anytime, as the sponsors contract and desires dictate.

advert attack is game #204, so skipping sponsored games, the next two game numbers on type ACTION, are 799 and 131 alphabetically

  • there is always a trick(self explanitory)
  • the trick will tell you if you should submit a plural or singular(what was left over?)
  • as you circle or strikeout the words, speak them out loud(to orate is to SAY)
  • What was that tagline Tom Kennedy uttered for twelve years?
    A: "It's not what you SAY that counts...
    It's what you don't say!!!
  • square square or prime?
    mathamitacally 16 is the square of a square and 17 is prime
    this alludes to whether you find 16 words or 17 words...

    I really drove this one into the ground with the following:
  • Pretend you're a busy little spelling Buzz
    Mama Buzz gives you a plate of letters to spell
    What does she say?
  1. I want you to use all the letters on your plate
  2. There are illiterate kids in Africa who would love to have those letters
  3. You are going to sit there until you have spelled with all your letters, young Buzz
  4. You're such a picky speller, but you have to spell
  5. You go straight to the hive without your spelling
  6. ALL THE ABOVE


now for the punchline of the preceding list
  • submitting before you have all the words can affect your score DRASTICALLY
    specifically, if you didn't get the 17th word from the unused letters, you had a better than even chance to submit the plural "codestones" instead of "codestone"... the final (17th) word
  • don't worry, you're not the only one to submit the plural :(

    the useless clues given this week were:

    1. Kunta Kinte was too well rounded
    2. a well divided list will get the answer
    3. Has anyone seen Jeeves?
    and their explanation follows:
    1. KK=fromROOTS and TOOrounded=should be square
    2. if you divide first number into fifth you get the square root of two
      If you divide second number into the sixth you get the square root of three
      If you divide the third into the seventh you get two
      (latteral thinking will see two equals square root of four)
      so the fourth divided into the missing eighth number will equal the square root of five
    3. (elsewhere, I also asked "has anybody seen my butler?")
      In hind sight I should have said... "Ask my butler for help
      then the "anyone seen Jeeves" would tie in to "Ask Jeeves", original name of Ask.com
      if you google the numbers you get a lot of hits on an answer site... there are a bunch of wrong answers, and one person went through and called each questioner a cheater from neopets.... but the answer was there and backed up by the explanation after this list

    Set them out like this :

    It's the 332 / 664 which is the giveaway. Watch this :-

    408 * sqrt(2) = 576.9991 . . .

    the trick of this puzzle was "remove eight letters"

    the eight letters wasn't 8 letters, (like A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H for instance) but rather the literal letters given (E+I+G+H+T+L+E+T+T+E+R+S)

    rearrange the other ten for POLARCHUCK able to be found in my list of petpets that I finally included (last line "so I lied" is because I said elsewhere that I couldn't add a list needed for that weeks puzzle, I actually can, but I won't if it attracts too much attention to the answer being included... since I had been saying I was going to add a petpet list for the last eight months, it's appearance was announced well before the Lenny...

    the Lenny stated that they regularly met somewhere in Faerieland ("...their favorite place in...") this should have set bells off... because they didn't say where! just that it is somewhere in Faerieland. Also they didn't say what species walked in the door the sixth and eighth times... DING, DING, DING!!!!

    well, you need to find that place that they meet... and if you don't know anything about Faerieland you need to know the two places that aren't labeled on the maps(actually three but the portal to Altador is more obvious than the Hidden Tower and the abandoned Grundo plushie...

    well, the Tower is a wash... but when you click on that poor abandoned plushie, you are told the name of the location is:

    The Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity

    and the Lenny lists the arriver's at that location as:

    a Techo, a Draik, a Meerca, a Blumaroo, a Gelert. The sixth Pteri had gained a level, ??????? And the eighth Pteri had gotten stronger.

    look at the initial letters of each... the first five are TDMBG,

    but you say "Level and Strength don't start with P... (the sixth and eighth initials)"... and you are right... but since the lab ray only changes one attribute at a time, their species is still (P)etri

    thus the seventh turned into a species that starts with the letter "O" and the winner is... *drum roll*

    Given that we already know what represents the digits zero, one, and nine...
    so the answer of the multiplication (I will call it ABC x LM) is 90LM
    Just explain how to figure our what digit is C in my example here (and of course it will thus prove what digit is represented by 8 in the Lenny) without trying any of the combinations, we now know it has to be six, just explain why we knew so while only knowing what digits were really one, zero, and nine

    the answer is:

    the key is to first look at the addition. You have four digits added to four digits getting a five digit answer...
    That first digit of the five digit answer MUST be one! nothing else it could be.

    Now look at the multiplication problem. the competition was to explain what the last digit of the top number was.... and why it had to be that.
    The key here is the fact that two digits are multiplied by that three digit number and the last two digits of the answer are the same as the two digits. This means that one less than the three digit number and the answer would have been a four digit number ending with a double zero (a multiple of one hundred)(if we had further worked the addition to discover the first two digits of the answer were 90 then we know this "one less" multiplication would come to 9000)

    The only way this could happen is if "one less than the three digit number" were to end in a zero or a five.
    (further the "one less than the three digit number" is evenly divisible into 9000)

    well, we already know that one is not the last digit of the three digit number so "one less than the three digit number" cannot be zero, thus it must be five making the last digit of the three digit number a six.

    I heard there was a very good poem on the boards that I wish I had seen there so I could quote it and give credit... someone told me later the jist of it, pretty much it said to explore and give more attention to the last than the first...

    what it meant was to look at the explore page, below the flash map, and to click on the blurbs there, last one first... then look at the last word (just before the flash/or/html picture of the area) this would be the first word in the Lenny's list... last word of the next to last one clicked, was the second, etc....

    the Larry clue would be aparent to anyone who does the reveal image game for the movie "the Wild"... Larry is the name of the idiot snake

    the subject forbidden refers to the three subjects that you are not allowed to talk about, I will call them: the S-WORD (a three letter word ending in "ex"); the Po-WORD (we in the USA have elections for them); and the R-WORD

    R-WORD includes a Book that starts with the letter "B" (ends with "ible") and is our higher power's words to us. this Tells of the time a snake lied to Eve and thus all the R-WORD references

    so how did you get the answer?

    The title and the puzzle type and even the last useless clue, all pointed to the fact that the way to get the answer was in the past answers. this is puzzle 185, so "a couple of weeks ago" was puzzle 183. that was the week I had a list of all pets and a number value for each (use the parentheses number since that is the correct one if two are there)

    You will note that the mentioned pets all went with all the other pets that had the same number as they did... the Grarrl is a lone number as is the Tuskaninny so even Tuskaninny would rather go alone than go with the Grarrl!

    and though it had a math element to it, the math had been done two weeks earlier! and had been posted to this site ever since!

    The puzzle was an easy read from bottom left corner to top right corner reading the dexter lines going left to right restarting each dexter line at the bottom right. so easy that it is hard to give a clue that wouldn't give away the answer.

    the only problem that some people had never heard of the perfectly flat rock quary... (shame on you for not helping to save altador) but this is help with the lenny page not the altador instruction page so I did give some help with this picture seen after I said no clues today: WELL, maybe ONE hint!  ^_^

    the letters were just like the crypto-quotes you see in the newspaper, each letter represented a different letter but same for all occurrences.

    the most common word in the English language is the word "THE" and that happened to be the sixth and ninth words... the only repeated word in the puzzle. with that you could guess the first word was How, one of the question words and the only one that I know of that starts with an "H" (you had that from "tHe") there was also a three letter word ending with "E" as the fourth word. since "ARE" is another common three letter word I put it in there and that gave "HOW -A?- " followed by " -TAR- ARE O? THE" with the question marks as the same letter. OF OH ON OR are the common two letter words starting with "O" and HOW usually is followed by an indefinite quantity word such as often, much, soon, MANY !!!! I also saw that HOW MANY "?TAR?" ARE ON THE - A - - - ?HO- sounded like "stars" when I read it and that made the ?HO- either SHOW or SHOP and the top hat allowed me to pull out a rabbit at the MAGIC SHOP since I was pretty sure the last two words were NEOPIA CENTRAL from there it all fell into place. Too bad I only counted the whole stars... I sent 8 but Lenny paid for ten. the list of "USLESS CLUES" that I gave were as follows (though I had to remove four that hinted at eight being the answer)The first one refers to the list of query words given above (in the GOT A LIST? box)

    1. This is not a clue but this is not the first clue
    2. This is a magical puzzle.
    3. This is the third clue in this list
    4. All Starry-eyed Lenny enthusiasts will have no trouble with this puzzle.
    5. These clues are designed to only be useful if you are already on the right track.
    6. The question mark at the end of the puzzle should bring to mind a list of words to look for because at least one of them WILL be in the answer and most likely the first word. my list has eleven words in it (and growing) and six of them have three letters. (pointing to the word HOW)
    7. In the English language, the language use by The Lenny, the most popular word the spoken language uses is the noun predecessor that the Australians and the British throw away when they put the kids in the ambulance to the Hospital. (could I have been more obvious that the word THE occurs eleven times and referring to the English's propensity of saying "Go to Hospital" )
    8. if there were a clue in the freebies, it would be the first.(tells you first clue is after freebies, it's in the "got a list?" box)
    9. Hiding a tree in a forest is a great way to confuse people so ignore all these hints until you know the answer then come back and get a chuckle reading the clues. (there wer4e hints but hard to spot when there are so many obscure references)

    it is sets of letter pairs. the first two pairs are the second and third letters of the pets to cross the desert and the third pair, if there, are the second and third letters of the pet to take the umbrella back.

    to clarify I will use the minutes to cross to identify each.

    first 4 and 8 cross... it doesn't matter which returns
    then 20 and 16 cross... and the other returns the umbrella
    so 4 and 8 again cross the desert

    crossing times are 8 + 20 + 8 and return times are 4 + 8
    8+20+8+4+8=48

    When the puzzle was put up it asked, among other questions, the number of bat wings in HAUNTED fairgrounds. then they changed this over the weekend to read DESERTED fairgrounds.

    This changed the answer you get. Since there is no haunted fairgrounds in Neopia, the answer to that question is zero. And since you multiply, the full answer would be zero.

    after the change you need the other numbers too.

    also the puzzle asked for the number of boats, and there are six rowboats, but they included the sailing ships in their ten answer. show me a ship captain who allows you to call his vessel a boat and I'll show you a rummy who is dead drunk.
