Guild FAQ

Purpose

First of all, our purpose is a bit different from any other guild you might have already encountered. We don't encourage going against TNT's rules, so we don't have official giveaways, contests, or competitions. Our purpose is simply to bring people together and give them a friendly place to make friends and chat. Bashes and randomly thrown items are just a bonus. We're also a literate guild, so you won't see any chatspeak here! There are specific rules to make sure that everyone follows this! However, if English isn't your first language, of course we'll make allowances. Just let us know before you join!

Application

So, if you want to join Redux, you'll have to fill out this application. I mean, it's quite simple really, no requirements except that you write at least a full sentence for each answer, the more literate the answer the better the chance you'll get into Redux! And it's only six questions. Just think how little of a number six would seem if you only got six M&M's, right? Once you complete this application, you can neomail it to either tenmakenji (Vinny), fortunecookiegirl (Cookie), wufei_the_destroyer (Damien) or lilianya (Nana Lili/Mandee), and we'll reply as soon as we can. If you don't receive a reply within 24 hours, feel free to send your application to another person! I would recommend sending applications to Cookie, Damien, or Nana Lili/Mandee first, as Vinny is usually unable to be on Neopets every day.

1. What's your name, and what would you like us to call you?
2. Pancakes or waffles?
3. Why do you want to join Redux?
4. What is your dream neopet?
5. What do you think about Meepits?
6. How could you cope with our posting rule (3 sentences or more per post)?

That's all! Remember, when you're done, neomail your completed application to either tenmakenji (Vinny), fortunecookiegirl (Cookie), wufei_the_destroyer (Damien), or lilianya (Mandee).

Neomail Vinny . Neomail Cookie . Neomail Damien . Neomail Nana Lili/Mandee

Frequently Asked Questions

What does your layout look like?
Well, here's the thing. In April of 2008, one of Vinny's dear friends, Lori, left the GC community, leaving behind a wish of a place where guilds were not judged on quality of layouts but quality of content and member relations. To uphold this dream, the layout of Redux is now, until further notice, only CSS. I can assure you that the CSS is quality, but since the colors change rather quickly and often, a preview will not be provided. ;D Sorry~

Where can I find the webbie or other essential pages?
Well, let me give you a few links that you might want to investigate further!

Webbie . Activities Page . Teams Page . Chat Rules . Newspaper
Library . Corners . Adoption Agency . Speak Llamaish

There are a lot of other pages linked to from the webbie as well, so be sure to check it out!

What happened to the original guild, (MixedNeo)?
(MixedNeo) as it was created over a year ago, is still in existance, hosted by my old main, vinny4969m. It will remain there as a monument to our triumphs and a reminder of our mistakes, but is not accepting members.

Why is the guild private?
The guild is private to uphold our standard of literacy. If the guild were public, anyone could join, from any corner of Neopia, with any views about literacy. Being a private guild allows us to screen through the applications and invite those who we feel would fit with the guild.

Why do you have a three-sentence rule?
The guild has a three sentence rule NOT to cause any new members to be uncomfortable and to feel restricted in their posting, but to encourage longer posts all around. Longer posts allow for deeper conversation, which in turn leads to deeper relationships between guild members. Redux strives to keep a family-like atmosphere, and this rule is part of what makes us uniquely close.

If bashes are against TNT's rules, why does the guild allow them?
Well, where I can see the reasons behind forbidding raffles and contests in a guild, I don't truly see the logic behind banning bashes from a guild's features. A gathering of the members at the same time surely couldn't harm anyone the way a scam-raffle could.

History of the Guild

Over a year ago, I (Vinny) was looking for another dimension to my Neopian life, and I decided to find that in co-leadership of a guild. In the beginning, I wasn't anywhere near being the head of the leadership. There were five other founders and all of their names have been lost in my memory (besides lakewood_high, the true leader of the operation). Before Thursday of the same week we created it, however, everyone but myself had abandoned the guild, leaving the ownership of (MixedNeo) completely to me.

At first, I was intimidated, being all by myself, but I decided I'd keep the guild going on my own. Searches for co-owners and council members led me to many great members and leaders, peaking at over fifty members at one point. Layouts progressed from the very simple one that lakewood_high first made, to the other side of simple, our current all CSS layout. The guild's also gone through many changes concerning TNT's rules about contests, bashes, competitions, and prizes. In the very beginning, I spent all my neopoints on providing prizes for my members. Wishes (one up to a million neopoints) were granted through our guild-only wishing well. There was even a raffle in the very beginning, and bashes were frequent occurances.

As time went on, however, I realized that to keep the guild safe, I would have to let go of our reliance on prizes. I also grew fed up with members that continued to chat speak, or those that joined simply to get items. After many renovations, including the day that the guild went private, I came to adopt a set of requirements. It didn't seem to help the guild flower though, and along with my business because of school, the guild seemed to falter and came close to dying. I wouldn't give up though, because as long as there were members in the guild that still cared about keeping the guild alive, I'd keep it running.

It was then that I made the killing decision to the original (MixedNeo), when I decided to have the guild forums off Neopets. We attempted to recruit some new members, but no one seemed to be sticking. When Derek brought up the idea that we could perhaps start anew, with the same purpose and dedicated members, but leave behind our past mistakes, I immediately knew that in order to save (MixedNeo), that's what I would have to do. So, after much work on refining what features we had, building up a new guild, and ensuring everything was as perfect as it could be, Redux was opened, this time to the PUBLIC.

On October 20th, 2008, Redux was made private due to requests of the members. Our application was put up on the page at that time and we have required potential members to fill it out and neomail it in, in order to obtain an invitation to Redux.

Some of the highlights of the guild since that point have been our guild plot, where a horribly hurt pet terrorized two little zafaras at the rainbow pool and we learned why the Fountain Faerie created art galleries all over Neopia. She was also adamant about encouraging self-expression in guilds and it was with the completion of the plot that we planned to introduce our corner feature. Corners are places for members to write about themselves and anything else they wish to display. These pages represent their position and home in the guild, since we've often spoken about how we all live in our own corners of the guild.

Corners were officially introduced after we returned from our first Guild Camping Trip. During that trip, we had IMMENSE amounts of fun as we decorated our sleeping bags, went on a hike through the Haunted Woods, completing activities as we walked, and we ended with Ghost Stories around the campfire and a guild-sponsored donation to the Money Tree.

And we're still going.

The Future of Redux

There are /so/ many plans in the works for this amazing guild. I've fallen more in love with the members every day, and so I can't do enough for them. Our BASE year anniversary is fast approaching and I can't wait to share this special moment with the guild. Of course we've been going for over two and half years altogether, but it's really special to be able to know that this new attempt has been successful for over a year and that none of it could have been possible without the love of the members.
