HALOTHNE: The Marked Eyrie

THE INTRO

Er...hello. I'm sorry you have to see me like this. I guess that's what I get for trusting...Pirates. Now I've been stuck on this deserted Island for who knows HOW long. You don't know how crazy that can make an Eyrie.

*She gives you an evil grin as she preens her metallic feathers*

The weather and elements have definitely taken their toll on me, but the experience has been welcomed. It's also made me stronger...much stronger than I'd ever imagined possible.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Halothne...or Anchor if you desire. Anchor was my nickname among my co-workers at the Golden Dubloon. But that was before I met...them. Actually, if you have a moment...let me start from the beginning.

A POOR WAITRESS

I walked into the Golden Dubloon thinking today would be the day! Today one of the Pirates passing through would ask me to join them on their treasure quests! I entered the restaurant, went back into the kitchen and picked up a wooden spoon, imagining it as my sword. I jumped around pretending I was battling evil Pirates who were after my treasure. The others in the kitchen stared at me, but I didn't care. I was a Pirate at heart! Suddenly the cooks' cackling at me stopped and they were silent. I felt breathing behind me and gulped.

-ANCHOR!- my manager yelled. -Quit yer goofin' around! Ye got customers waitin.' Now git out there!-

-Yes, sir...- I replied putting down the spoon. The honest truth? I wasn't a Pirate...and I was a girl. What respectable Pirate would bring a GIRL onto his ship unless they were related to him? None that I know of. I longed to be like Captain Shallowe, one of the most decorated and aloof pirates ever to sail Neopias seas. The reality? I was nothing more than a waitress at the Golden Dubloon. The only reason I have a Pirate sounding nickname is because of the weird anchor marking on my shoulder...it's been there forever. Today was unfortunately just like any other day...I go to work, go home, and dream that the next day would be different...better. No harm in dreaming, right?

SHALLOWE AND DAHBBU

I expected today to be ordinary and boring...same as any other day. I had no idea what was about to go down...my life would be changed forever. I stepped out of the kitchen with my notepad to take orders and stopped in my tracks. There was a GORGEOUS Pink Draik in our restaurant! She was playing cards with a few others and had more gold rings and bracelets than I'd ever seen in my life! She was a Pirate, I was almost sure of it! But...a girl? I couldn't believe my eyes.

-That's Captain Shallowe, about as deceptive as Pirates come! She's at YOUR table, Anchor. I'm steering clear of this one,- one of my co-workers whispered to me.

THAT was the infamous Captain Shallowe? One of the most legendary of all Neopian Pirates was...a girl?? That raised my hopes and I became overly curious about my possible future as a treasure hunting Pirate.

I approached their table to take her order...and of course ask her a few questions if she'd be willing to answer. She stood up staring at me....

-Well, aren't YOU a cute little Eyrie,- she said.

She began walking circles around me...still staring. I could hear her jewels jingling as she walked. Suddenly she stopped, grabbed my paw, and dragged me into a secluded corner.

-Where did you get that marking on your shoulder?- she whispered harshly. I gulped...feeling myself become uneasy.

-T-t-the a-anchor?- I asked quite nervously. -I-I-I've had it forever, Miss S-Shallowe.- She rubbed her eyes and stared again.

-It can't be...you're just an old Pirate's tale! You're in great danger if you stay here, dear. You ever hear of a Pirate named Dahbbu? He's been lookin' for an Eyrie with a mark like that. You're coming with me!-

Shallowe dragged me out of the Golden Dubloon and that was the last I ever saw of it.

On the way to her ship, she told me why exactly Dahbbu was looking for me. He's apparently very superstitious according to Shallowe. He'd had a vision of an immortal Eyrie with an anchor marking unlike any other. This Eyrie was to be his downfall...the only one able to defeat the most unforgiving Pirate on the seas. Of course Dahbbu didn't want that. Shallowe told me that Dahbbu and herself were arch enemies...almost constantly in battle for control of the ocean and its treasures. Ever since she'd heard of his vision, she'd been trying to find the Eyrie with the anchor...to protect them...for they would become a Pirate legend like she was. She'd always imagined me as a strong and powerful force...not a simple waitress. I couldn't believe the situation either. How was I going to defeat Dahbbu? This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I wished I was a Pirate...in fact, this was far from it.

We approached her ship and boarded. I had no idea where she was taking me, or even if she could be trusted. This was Shallowe...one of the most deceiving Pirates EVER! And I really didn't know what to believe about her saying I was immortal. I was JUST a waitress.

We were greeted by quite a shock on the ship. A large Pirate Lutari stood before us and blocked the stairs to the helm.

-Dahbbu!- Shallowe hissed. She quickly turned to me. -Run, young one!-

-Not so fast! I knew I'd eventually find you...the marked Eyrie. Whatever she's told you is a lie. She's the one after ye, and ye walked right into her trap. I'm here to prevent what she's planning,- he explained as he walked towards me. Shallowe was also approaching me, trying to counter everything Dahbbu was saying. I saw Dahbbu whisper something to one of his crewmen and the next thing I remember is waking up on this deserted Island watching the ship sail into the distance.

I've been training myself for the day I meet them again. I WILL be ready to confront them. I don't know who I am, or if I'm really immortal...but I won't be the same Eyrie they remember. One, or both of them wanted me gone, and I will find out the truth.

I began to feel different after training myself for a while. My claws had become almost like indestructible steel, as had my beak. My feathers turned metallic purple and black and acted as a sturdy shield keeping my safe. No matter what I did to test my new barriers, nothing could harm me. Smiling with an evil grin, and eyes that now possessed a haunting red glow...I knew the stories of the indestructible Eyrie were true. I WAS her...the marked Eyrie. I would get revenge on those Pirates. No one deceives and maroons Halothne...especially not now. They gave me courage to become what I truly am. Now they will be forced to deal with the consequences.
