Thank you for taking the time to look at my Battledome guide. This guide is meant to be an introduction to the neopian battledome simple enough to be easy to understand yet detailed enough so that after reading through this guide, one will have a very good understanding of the battledome.
Well, all things begin small as will this guide. Here are the humble beginnings of my guide to that battledome. It's not perfect yet and I'll be constantly improving it, but if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Feel free to neomail me if you have any suggestions. I hope you enjoy my guide.
I haven't been able to update this much lately, but with the school year almost over, I should be able to spend some time on it soon. I can't wait for summer vacation.
May 24 - I made new newbie BD sets. The old examples were out of date. Since then, some better, cheaper weapons have come out.
Are you new to the BD? Don't any idea what it's about and want to get into it? That's all right. We all had to start at the beginning. The battledome is a place on neopets where pets can battle each other. The 2 player battledome where two neopians can battle each other and the 1 player battledome is where you can battle against a computer controlled opponent.
There are many factors to how well you do in the battledome. These factors include your pets stats, abilities, weapons, and how you use them. This guide will go into detail about each of these areas.
Don't want to read it all? That's fine, you can get started now. Just buy one of these battle sets, equip them to your pet, and you can get to battling. Just remember to come back here when you're ready to learn more. There are many factors to how well you do in the battledome. These factors include your pets stats, abilities, weapons, and how you use them.
First things first, get you pet a BD set. One of the sets below should suit you well. Once you've bought the set of your choice, equip the weapons to your pet.
Are you ready to get into the battledome! Try your hand against some of these challengers. Some are more difficult then others. The Pant Devil is the first Defenders of Neopia mission and the Ghost Lupe and Kasuki Lu give you avatars.
Your pet has 3 stats that are important to the battledome. Hit points(also known as endurance), strength, and defence. Movement and intelligence are unimportant in the battledome*. Hit points are your pets health. When your hit points reach zero, you lose. Of course, the more hit points you have, the better. You strength determines how much damage you can do with your weapons. The higher your strength, the more damage you'll do. You defence determines how much damage you can defend against with your shields. The higher your defence, the more damage you'll defend.
* Recently, some weapons have been released that have movement or intelligence requirements. Only TNT knows what will come of these weapons.
Strength and defence work in boosts. Instead of increasing gradually, the ammount of damage you can deal or defend increases in what are commonly called boosts.
Strength boosts are very important in the battledome. The ammount of damage you can do is directly dependent upon you strength boost. The amount of damage does not increase smoothly. Instead, it increases at different intervals commonly called "boosts." A pet will do the same amount of damage at 125 strength as they will with 199 strength. As soon as that pet had 200 strength, it will do more damage.
To find out the amount of damage you will do (measured in hp), take the number of icons times the multiplier for your strength boost. This will give you your base damage.
These boosts also work for defence. Take the Leaf Shield as an example. It defends 5 icons of earth, 5 water, and 3 physical. What that means is that is someone does 20 damage of earth to you and you use the Leaf Shield and you have the 85 defence boost (2.5), you will block 12.5 damage (5 x 2.5).
Training is of course very important in the battledome. The better your pet's stats are, the better you'll do in the battledome. The more hp you have, the longer you'll last in the battledome; the more strength you have, the more damage you can do; and the more defence you have, the better you can block attacks. There are many ways you can change the stats of your pet and all are listed below.
There are three training schools in Neopia, Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy, the mystery island training school, and the Secret Ninja Training School. In exchange for raising the stats of your pets, you muct pay dubloons or codestones depending upon where you go.

The chef will ask you for three or 4 food items. Bring them in time and you might get a stat increase. You can also win other prizes such as np or items, but stats are usually the best prize. The chance of getting a usefull stat is about 1/3. Of those, about twice as many points will go to hp as strength, defence, or level. These stats are also randomly distrubuted between your pets. So, these quests are best if you only have one pet.
Take the cost of training devided by 3 and devided by the number of pets you have to give you an approximation of about how much it's worth it to pay for kitchen quests. If the items are too expensive, don't do the quests.
You can do quests one after another if you complete them, but you'll have to wait for the time to run out before you can do another one if you choose not to do a quest. You can do a maximum of 10 quests a day. These include all type of quests on neopets as well as random faerie quests. It's a good idea to do as many kitchen quests as possible every day. If it's late in the day and you've only done 2 quests all day, you might want to pay more for a quest if it lets you do more.

Once you collect all 9 pieces of the labratory map, you will be granted access to the lab ray where you can zap one of your pets each day for free. The lab ray can change your pet's species, color, give stats, and take stats. Over all, it gives more stats than it takes, but they're a bit lopsided. If you don't codestone train to supliment the lab and other meathods of training, defence will fall far behind and you'll get far more hp than other stats.
While having more hp than strength isn't necessarily a bad thing, if you ever want to train via the training schools, you'll probably have to train lots of levels first and you'll probably end up in a higher training level, so you'll have to pay more.
Given the current price of the lab map, it's still a decent investment, but it will take quite a while before it will pay off in training, but for high level pets, this is one of the only ways that they can train.

Faerie quests are randome events around neopets where one of the faeries will ask you to retrive an item for you. This is made more difficult because you are not allowed to use the shop wizard while you're on a quest. You can go to a Quest Shop or ask for someone to find shops for you that have the item you need. Then, go to the Faerie Quest page with the item to recieve your reward or to refuse the quest if you really don't want to do it. If you do turn down the quest. Make sure to return to the quest page later to make youself eligibly for quests again.
Each faerie gives you different rewards. If the quests are more expensive than the rewards, you might want to turn them down, but personally, I think that doing quests increases the chance of getting more.

Neggs are by far the most expensive way to train, but they are the only high level pets can really train once they get past the level 250 other than quests and the lab. Or at least they used to be. With the new training school released, they are once again, the expensive alternative if you want stats fast. However, for the upper levels of the ninja training school. Neggs still may be a good option.
All you have to do is feed your pet these oh so expensive treats and you get more stats. Note: Only certain neggs give stats.
There are a few other ways you can get stats in neopia.
You use one ability each round of the BD. Every pet has the basic abilities such as attack and defend. Most pets also have species abilities which differ for each species. There are also special faerie abilities that you gain by blessing your pet with bottled faeries and can do many things for you in the BD such as heal your pet.
Every pet has these abilities all the time with the exception of Berserk which is gained when you pet reaches level 50. They increase or decrease both the damage your pet does and the damage your opponent's pet does. They affect both pets.
Here's a list of usefull faerie abilities. I know it's a bit ulgy. It'll get better later.
There are countless weapons in neopia that your pets can use. You have the most freedom in choosing weapons then you do in other areas. There are only a handful of good faerie abilities, but there are tons of good weapons. Some costing up to millions of neopoints. You'll spend most of your NP on weapons. You can equip 8 items to your pet at a time and you can use two of them each round of a battle.
I haven't yet decided what will come of this section of my guide. Someday in the future, I'll make something of it.
As the Training school's techo says, "I am afraid that is the limit of my teaching, they must go elsewhere for guidance." Here are some links to where you can learn more.
Do you have a BD guide? Is it not here? Should it be? Send abreev8 a neomail and you're guide might be added.
