Welcome to JoJo's Library ![]() It is just an average day in Neopia. The sun is shining, the Turmaculus is sleeping, the price of paint brushes is inflating (again) and the Meepits are...meeping. You are taking a walk down an average sidewalk riddled with cracks and weeds when all of a sudden an old brick building catches your eye. As you turn onto a dainty path leading towards the building through a hectic garden, you notice ivy crawling up the walls and beautiful details in the decorative windows. A sign above a hefty oak door marks the entrance and you hesitantly raise your fist to tap lightly upon the door. There is a shuffling movement behind it and with an ominous creak it glides open. A figure stands in the shadows of a dusty room and you are just about ready to turn tail and run back to continue on your walk when all of a sudden- OHAIOHAI! :3 A squat and squishy looking Plushie Cybunny is squinting her eyes in the sunlight, one paw over her brow. A playful, welcoming grin lights up her face yet you can't help noticing a faint trace of weariness and tragedy. You shrug it off and greet the Cybunny back. It's nice to meet you! I'm JoJo. Would you like to take a look around my library? The Cybunny is so happy and earnest looking you can't help but accept the offer and bracing yourself, you step into the room. Shelves overflowing with books fill most of the vicinity, and in the corner a fireplace and a cushy-looking chair rest, the imprint of the last behind to occupy the seat indented into the pillow. A steaming cup of tea is sitting on a windowsill and everywhere you look scrolls and tomes and novels are vying for attention. In her paw JoJo is holding a copy of Natural Wonders of Neopia: Shenkuu and as you take a closer look around the room you can see many artifacts and Shenkuu-inspired souvenirs: a paper lamp, a pair of chopsticks, a dragon mask, a small airship model. As you penetrate the room further, you notice the grassy aroma of green tea coming from the mug on the sill. JoJo looks at you expectantly.Have a seat, make yourself comfortable. Would you like some tea? A fortune cookie? Some rice? She ushers you into the armchair and busies herself with filling a china plate with dumplings, rice with soy sauce and ginger chicken. A single fortune cookie is added to the mix, a pair of elaborate ebony chopsticks, a small sphere of wasabi and a hunk of what looks like raw fish. Or a wet sock. She turns to you with another bright smile and hands you the plate. Then she pulls up a stool, sits down and placidly sips her tea. A few quiet minutes later, the mug is drained and she looks ready to speak.Welcome to my library. I have lots of stuff here to look at. My books are not for sale, but I can lend you some if you'd like, as long as you keep them in good condition. I also serve as an unofficial tour guide to Shenkuu, my second home. If you have some time, why don't you stay and listen to my story? I'd love to tell it to you and maybe I can help you plan a vacation! You smile slowly and lean back into the chair. "All right," you agree. "I'd love to stay but just one thing...Mmhmm...? ..."Can I have another dumpling?" JoJo looks at your now empty plate, an amused smile playing across her lips. You grin back sheepishly. Even the fish was good!Well...all right. After that you have to listen okay? I promise it'll be worth it! You eagerly gobble up another dumpling and then sighing contentedly you wiggle around a little in the chair, making yourself as comfortable as possible. And then...you listen. History
I grew up in the Kingdom of Imagination. It is the dimension where all the different characters from books used to live. My parents were the king and queen, making me a princess. I loved reading from a young age, and it always amused me to hear of all sorts of Neopian "legends" when really, the very characters were living before my eyes. My best friend was Maggie the Meerca, Ishtar the Fire Nimmo gave me feng shui lessons and the Snow Aisha kept me company when I ventured into the Northlands.
I wasn't expecting anything to go wrong in my pristine life. I guess I thought that because books always have happy endings, mine would too. Unfortunately, I was gravely mistaken.
We didn't notice until it was too late. The Kingdom of Imagination had once been vibrant and colourful and lively, but slowly it had turned a little bit wearier day by day, a little more grayer.
The day of my thirteenth birthday, my parents organized a huge banquet for me in the ballroom. The kingdom seemed to pour all of its energy into the party, one last time. There were tons of presents, a huge dinner and my favourite orchestra. Oh and the people! All our loyal subjects came out to help celebrate, from the highest, grandest duke, to the lowliest serf, they were all there and they were all smiling and happy and enjoying the celebration. The festival was decorated by faeries, with beautiful lights and figurines. It was perfection.
And then, just as my huge cake made its grand entrance, the lights went off. People screamed, everyone was confused and then, a strange green smoke filled the room, turning everything it touched into concrete. An evil Kyrii sorcerer had been planning the demise of the kingdom for a decade at least, ever since he had been banished from court. He killed my father and mother and he was going after me too, but I escaped through a hidden portal in the pages of a book.
Nobody knew where the portal went. Faeries had created it for me years and years ago when an ancient crone had prophesied the events of my thirteenth birthday. My parents hadn't believed it, but they had an escape route made to be safe. They didn't tell me because they didn't want me to spend my whole life fearful and anxious.
The faerie magic wasn't strong enough to pick a specific destination through the portal. I had a good chance of making it somewhere safe, but I also had a good chance of ending up in an even worse situation.
Thankfully, I found my way to Neopia. I came up in the Rainbow Pool with a poof of pink smoke and that's where my owner, Lindsey found me. You'll hear more about her later.
I was really sad and depressed for a little while after I was introduced to my new family. I appreciated the effort they all made to make me feel welcome and loved but I was still very quiet and reserved. As the days passed I learned to trust them and I became more open with them. Now it almost seems as if it were all a dream...but I know it's not true.
I still miss my friends and family. I've stumbled upon books with characters that I knew back in the kingdom. Sometimes it makes my heart ache so much to know that I cannot be with them anymore. But for now, I am content. My only goal is to find the book that contains my parents and me. I can't help but wish that if only I could find that book, I could find a way to get back to the kingdom. To save my subjects from their concrete imprisonment. And even if that doesn't work, at least maybe, I can be close to them. Even touching their words on a page in some forgotten novel would give me a little bit of comfort. A little bit of rest. I'm not complaining, I love it here in Neopia, in my library.
But I love my family too. And I want them back.
