This stock guide will remain up, but my other petpages will not.
The three guidelines, you may ask? Well, simply put, there's Buying, Selling, and Patience.
First, though, two things: When people talk about their 'ports', they're referencing their portfolio. You can only view your port through the main stockmarket page. Now, I'm gonna drop a link to the stock market, and you'll have to catch it...it's around here somewhere...found it!...ready?...here goes...LINK!
Quick tip: Buy 1000 shares everyday of something at 15-17 neopoints per share
Why this works: Ever heard of "buy low, sell high?" That's this. Buy at 15-17 (the number under the column labeled "CURR" when you look up all the stocks). A good link for viewing all the cheap stocks is the bargain stocks page. Click this link, go to the URL bar on your browser, and type in "&bargain=true" at the end without the quotes. Then, if you're on a computer that you wouldn't mind other people seeing you play neopets on, then bookmark that link. It's really useful for beginnings.
And yes, you are able to get 15,000 neopoints per day. Believe me, tons of people do. Ask around for game guides, or find a few that you like. It's not hard; it could even be fun!
Don't forget to diversify! Buy your shares in several different stocks, so you can see many profits with more stocks. And it's sort of a mini achievement to have bought all 43 stocks at a low price.
Quick tip: Sell when you feel comfortable letting go, but always at least at 30. Never sell at a loss.
Why this works: Well, think about it. If you buy at 15-17, then to double your money, you'd have to wait until your stock hits 30-34. Your 15,000 investment has now doubled and made you able to invest for two more days without slaving (er, playing) through any games!
The logistics (big word, I know, even for me) for selling are easy. Just click on the gray arrow to the left of the stock's icon, enter how many shares you want to sell, scroll to the bottom of your port, and hit "Sell Shares". Easy!
And yes, never sell at a loss. This is the only way to lose neopoints in the stock market.
Quick Tip: NEVER LOSE HOPE
Why this works: All stocks WILL rise. I've been playing for five years, and I've sold some of every single one of the forty-three stocks that are in circulation. You will have to wait for awhile. It'll be annoying at first, maybe even frustrating, seeing stocks go down. The next best thing I can tell you is that you should NOT check your port more than two or three times every day. Less if possible. Let's face reality
oh god, not reality! - You've got a life to get to, you don't need to stress over fake money in a fake stock market. Just be patient with your port, and you'll see profits. I won't lie, it may take a month or so before you start getting any good neopoints back. Maybe earlier, maybe not. Just be patient. I can't stress this enough.
Q: I got a random event telling me to buy a stock. Should I?
From Nigel? His advice, at least 75% of the time, is bogus. It's all random stocks he picks (that aren't bankrupt, of course). Just stick with the guidelines and you should be fine.
Q: Are there any other good guides for more information or reference?
A: Well, since you obviously don't believe what I have typed ಠ_ಠ ...the petpage on stepchild9, silvercyanide, and dogooderneoneo are really good. Just copy one of those names and replace "funwes" in the URL bar at the top of your browser and it'll direct you to those pages!
Q: What's "hyperstocking"?
A: Buying tons and tons of a single stock. I'm not an expert on it since it works just as well as buying at 15 and selling at around 60. Honestly, if you hyperstock, you'll see huge profits in large intervals of time. If you diversify, you'll see many smaller, yet more satisfying profits over shorter time periods. I'm sure you'd like that satisfaction. I know I do.
Q: Increment selling?
A: That's not a question
Q: Okay, FINE. What's increment selling?
A: Much better! It's a very intelligent selling strategy. You sell some at a specific selling point, then more if the stock gets higher, then more if it gets higher, etc etc. Personally I follow something like this, but it's more like a "I sell when I want, when it reaches something around ### strategy.
Q: What about the avatar?
A: To get it, invest 1 million neopoints into the market. Yes, yes, you can just buy expensive stuff to get the avatar faster, but what if the stocks go down? It may be years before they go up to where you're gonna see a profit. If they ever get up to those levels. You're going to have one of two situations: You'll have a lot of neopoints tied up in the market for a long time, or you're going to sell at a loss. Odds are, you'll take selling at a loss. With the strategy listed above, you won't be losing anything and you'll get the avatar in a little over two months (67 days at most). And you'll already have a portfolio that'll be building up nicely!
Q: Does buying increase the price of a stock?
A: No. When JCK, a now bankrupt stock, was still in business, some stock guild decided for their entire guild to buy up lots of JCK in order for it to rise up to somewhere in the 700s in no time at all. Then they all sold it, bankrupting it. Thus, TNT made the stock market a bit more random and unpredictable. So now, stocks fluctuate however they want.
Q: OMG! My stock is at 6! Will it go bankrupt?!
A: No. You know why? (stupid question. of course you don't, otherwise you wouldn't be asking me) A stock hasn't bankrupted since JCK, at least five years ago, so why should it now? All stocks go to 6 at some point in their career, and all have been there at least once ever since I started playing in late 2005. The odds are heavily against it so much, that it is safe to say that no stock will bankrupt. I know, I know, I might eat my words someday. But believe me, unless you have a stock guide of your own, chances are that I'm losing more neopoints than you are. So you'd get your just desserts, you factoring hectopascal.
Q: Why is 15 the lowest I can buy?
A: TNT set a limit awhile back before even I started playing the stocks. My guess (I'm not 100% sure on this, but more like 80%) is that TNT thinks that it's more exciting of a game if you see red figures instead of just green green green all the time.
Q: What about any other questions I might have (ie, what do the Vol, Cur, and other columns mean)?
A: Try looking at the Neopets Help page on the stocks, reading other guides, or just neomailing me! If you're nice and put a smilie in your mail, I'll probably respond nicely. If you type in all caps or are a general jerk, I probably won't respond with a nice answer (if I respond at all).
Q: What's with all the talk about secret stocks?
A: I can't tell you. They're secret. If I told you, then everybody would know, and it wouldn't be a secret anymore.
Q: Heyyyy...you put "Part A, 2, and III"!
A: WHAT OF IT?!
A1: Steak Sauce
