june 5, 2011 - farewell

Hello, I'm tourane, and I want to take a moment to apologize for the lack of updates. I will not be continuing this blog for ACVI. I will be the first to admit that the Altador Cup is my favorite part of Neopets, and Yooyuball is my favorite part of the AC. Yet, with all the changes to Yooyuball this year, I simply cannot get into the spirit of the Cup.

Now, I'm not an expert gamer, and I don't pretend to be. In fact, I consistently scored 9 goals per game in old YYB, so you can tell I'm not very good at all. Nevertheless, I could always pull off a win in old YYB. This year, I find myself struggling just to pull off a draw. It's very discouraging to say the least.

But I will be completely honest---more than blaming new YYB, I blame the fact that my interests simply lie elsewhere. I am hard at work on a webcomic---and if all goes according to plan, it will launch on June 30 of this year! All my time and energy is being spent on this comic, and I feel like I have found my dreams at last. My whole life has led up to this, and I couldn't be more grateful.

But I would be remiss if I didn't say how much that being on Neopets has helped me. I've learned so much by writing this blog and coding this pet page, and I thank all of you who have followed me and supported me. If you ever stumble upon my webcomic out in the real world, I invite you to say "hello." You will always be welcome in my little corner of the world, and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.

may 17, 2011 - sweet misery

Hello, I'm Verren Golvate, and I believe it is that special time of year again---the countdown to our most beloved Altador Cup! I've heard rumors that ACVI will be the most exciting tournament yet---

---but *ahem* you'll have to excuse me if I completely disagree.

I hate to be a downer, especially in my first article this season. But the secret, my dear readers, is that tournaments are like birthdays. They do not get more exciting as the years go by. Instead of getting better, they really just change. As you celebrate more and more birthdays, what tends to happen is that you grow to like the cake part more than the icing part. Thus, all those battles when you were little about who got the big rose flower on their slice seem immensely beside the point, and you never thought that would be the case, not ever!

One day, you may find that you don't even eat cake on your birthday. Me personally, I've never been one for cake anyway. Not even when I was a kid. The best use for cake, in my opinion, is smashing it into someone's face during a food fight. Or altering the ingredients to play a practical joke. You can talk to Tormo Frein---I'm sure he'd agree with me. According to this year's news reports, Frein is quite the prankster when it comes to the kitchen.

That said, Darigan Citadel will never be able to compete with my hometown on that score. After all, we here in *ahem* world-that-shall-not-be-named ... well, we pride ourselves on playing with our food.
