sensationalist; a blog

introduction.

meet the real cass!

Hey y'all! Sensationalist, a division of Soroptimist Directory, is my newest endeavor: a fantastically simple blog of whatever captures my fancy! It'll be chock-full of all the media I'm consuming (TV shows, movies, music, etc.), a bit of what's going on in my life, and even some site news if I have any. I'll try to blog as often as possible, considering I got great feedback about starting it, so you'll always be in the loop. Enjoy! The newest blog is always on top. Feedback is also always welcomed!

general bio.

about the blogger

So you want to know more about me, huh? Well my name is Cass, and I've been on Neopets for a total of about 8-9 years, though only four years with my latest accounts. I live in the USA and I only speak English (lol), though I took French in high school and hope to really learn it eventually. My hobbies include reading, watching TV, text-messaging, and, of course, sitemaking! I've been making sites for five years now (my milestones include hosting a successful off-Neo pixel site called Silver Dreams as well as being asked to work for SunnyNeo, though I was too busy to do so) and at one point had 20 sites across 5 accounts. I've owned almost all the types of sits, from graphics to SOTM to review sites to dailies, though directories are my passion. :)

Likes and Dislikes:
Books: My favorite books include Harry Potter, Eragon, Twilight (yes, indeed, though I'm no diehard fan), and City of Bones. Really the only genre I read is fantasy, though there are some fiction books that I enjoy, like those written by Simone Elkeles. I also really love nonfiction history and linguistics books, as I would classify myself as a history nerd. Also, I really hate classics and Shakespeare because I find them boring and the language often difficult to understand without a translation, hehe.

TV: I love to watch TV! I watch it all online_ though, so it can fit it into my schedule whenever I have time and so I don't have to fuss around with a real TV. My favorite shows include Leverage, Bones, Glee, Psych, Rizzoli&Isles, Criminal Minds, White Collar, Castle, Community, and Revenge. I'm mostly into crime dramas and comedies, and most of the shows I just listed are really quite funny even if they're not billed as a comedy. I'm always willing to try new shows (I'm currently catching up on Modern Family), though if they're boring after two or three episodes, I'll usually stop watching.

Music: My favorite artists are One Republic, Rihanna, The Fray, The Script, One Direction, and Beyonce. Mostly I like upbeat/pop songs and lots of slower, meaningful songs as well. I greatly dislike rap and country, and I mostly like rock, R&B, pop, and alternative.

Movies: My favorite movies include Get Smart, The A-Team, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wild Target, Phantom of the Opera, Prince of Persia, Sherlock Holmes, The Mummy, and Tangled. I really like action/adventure or comedy; scary movies I absolutely can't stand; and dramas are okay, depending on the story.

Is there anything else you'd like to know about me? Let me know!

#8. smells like school spirit.

friday, february 10, 2012

I think a weekly Friday or Saturday post sounds really awesome. (: Let's see...this was a quick week for me, goodness! It seemed all I was doing was waking up, school-school-school, then getting home, sleeping, and then repeating the cycle. I'm so glad it's Friday, like all you Rebecca Black fans out there! Haha, people still can't resist singing "Friday" on Fridays. Instant classic.

So there are two bits of news this week: One, my friend got me a book stamp for my birthday (very early), and it says "From the Library Of My name. It's super-cute, and I just need to buy an ink pad so I can start stamping. ^-^

Also, today I went to my school's basketball game not because I have school spirit (my school's awful, lol) but because my friends and I would get extra credit for doing so. x) It really wasn't that bad, I thought - basketball is one of the few sports I actually understand, and anything done with your best friends (and food! I bought funnel cake :D) is always fun. So it's a win-win situation, really. :)

This weekend I am positively swamped with homework and projects (eugh, I hate projects!), so I'll be keeping off Neo as much as possible, other than to update. I can't wait for my birthday, which is only two and a half weeks away! :DD

Media List:
Books: Hahahahaha...

TV: Of course, there's a whole week's worth of TV to talk about! I'll just touch upon the highlights: This week's Alcatraz was crazy since a guard instead of an inmate showed up, and there were lots of ties to Rebecca's own grandfather and uncle, so it was reeeallyy awesome! Castle is finally back, and I loved the 40's-linked-to-modern-day murder mystery. The love story was also adorable. :) Finally, a new episode of Glee! Ricky Martin was amazing, and I liked the episode on the whole, even the Spanish songs. The new episodes of Revenge and Nikita were as suspenseful and amazing as always - stakes keep getting upped every episode, and the shows are decadently addicting!

Music: I'm stuck on Hinder's "Lips of an Angel", since it's a song from quite a few years ago but is still great. :) Other songs include "Party All Night (Sleep All Day)" by Sean Kingston and "Young, Wild, and Free" by Wiz Khalifa ft. Snoop Dogg.

Movies: I FINALLY watched Rise of the Planet... last weekend! It was pretty good, though nothing really noteworthy. Just an ape revolution. Nothing memorable. I also watched Sherlock Holmes, one of my favorite movies, and it was just as funny and intricate as always. This weekend I've got No Strings Attached and Friends With Benefits, which are basically the same movie, which is why I ordered them together - to compare. I think Friends is going to be better, but we'll see! :D

#7. good streak.

friday, february 3, 2012

Hey, folks! Aiee, it's Friday, how exciting! There's just no feeling quite like the excitement of knowing you have time off from school, no matter how brief, lol. I actually had a good week, topped off with really easy/chill classes these past few days and lots of good food courtesy of my mama! :)

Also, remember how I got that new laptop at the beginning of my blogging times? Its screen is on the smallish size for maximum portability, so my dad bought me a super-big monitor to hook my laptop up to so I don't "tire my eyes" looking at a "small screen" for so long (my dad's words, lol - I have no problem with my new screen, but the big monitor is surely a plus for watching TV and movies!). My dad also disapproved of my old-fashioned corded mouse, so he got me a wireless one that matches my new monitor in color! (A kind of dark plum color.) How cool is that? Additionally (man, I'm just swimming in tech news today!) I got my new headphones today (in pink) and my external DVD drive for my laptop, which is one of those super-thin ones that don't have any room for DVDs.

What else? There's been the tiniest bit of drama among my friends, which is the biggest thing for me because I literally never have drama! One of my good friends from last year kind of ditched me and another friend for some new friends...I've never been ditched before. D: Oh my. New topic...

Ahh, Valentine's Day is coming up soon! My best friend's bf is in other state, so she asked me to be her valentine and we'll be exchanging chocolates on that day. :) Are y'all doing anything special for V-Day?

Also, my birthday's February 27 (yes, the very end of the month, hehe) and I couldn't be more excited! I just hate how people never want to tell you what they got you for your birthday! I always have to tell people what I got them; I hate surprises, hehe.

Media List:
Books: Still no new books?! Shame.

TV: Whoohoo! Just a little bit of TV to update y'all on: Up All Night, a wonderfully funny comedy about a couple raising their first kid, was on; I love Will Arnett! There's also The Finder, which is shaping up to be one of my favorite shows! It's so quirky and hilarious, I just love it. And, awesomely, Nikita is back after its winter hiatus, and its new episode upped the stakes like nothing else! Nikita, about a rouge spy seeking to overthrow her old underground assassin government agency, is super-suspenseful, interesting, fast-paced, and intricate. It's, in a nutshell, the bomb.

Music: I'm still wholeheartedly obsessed with Glee's cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal", but let's move on to something new, shall we? I heard the acoustic version of Katy Perry's The One That Got Away on Pandora (the best personalized radio ever!) and it was lovely. :)

Movies: Yay! The Vow is coming out this Friday! :D I'm going to watch Rise of the Planet... as well as Sherlock Holmes and Hoodwinked 2 this weekend (hopefully). I know I'm too old for Hoodwinked 2, but the first one cracked me and my brother UP (it was so hilarious!) so we're tapping into the little kids inside of us for it.

#6. jumping around.

wednesday, february 1, 2012

So we meet again, guest! I'm sorry for limiting my blog post days, but there's not much you can do when (a) your life consists mainly of school and homework, so not much happens, and (b) you're awfully busy! I'm sure y'all understand.

So let's jump into the first news bit of the day! My new case for my new phone came in today a few days early! This is wonderful because I had an awful rubbery case before that had too much friction against everything and was hard to simply slide into my pocket. My new cover is just like the one I had on my *stolen* phone: translucent grey flexible plastic, only now it has a geometric pattern of diamonds on the back. I know what you may be thinking - grey, really? Well, my dad ordered the first one for me, so I didn't have any input. For my second, I wanted the exact same case, but it wasn't available, so I get the one closest to it. Yay! :D

Other news: The spring-like weather here continues! Remember that it's now the beginning of February, the midst of winter here, and last February we had so much snow we had a week off of school! It seems, though, this year we won't have any snow with all this seventy-degree weather all over the place...

What else is up? Hmm...Nothing, actually. On to the Media List!

Media List:
Books: I haven't read anything at all in the past week, but as a few friends have been talking about it again - I *highly* recommend the ever-popular Hunger Games trilogy if you haven't already read them! The movie's coming out in March, and, as I said before, I couldn't be more excited! :D

TV: There were some good TV shows on between now and my last blog on Friday. Let's break it down by day:
--Sunday: Once Upon a Time (wonderful as always; I loved how it focused on the genie/Sydney and that his story involved both the Evil Queen and Snow White!) and House of Lies (I officially like this funny show!).
--Monday: Alcatraz was just as great as it's been! I highly recommend this new mind-bogglingly-mysterious and awesome show!
--Tuesday: Ah, finally! We have a new episode of Glee (more about it under the 'music' section)! There were three other shows on tonight, but I didn't get a chance to watch them until today, so:
--Wednesday: Whoohoo! The new episode of Jane by Design was almost nail-biting (haha), White Collar was refreshing as it focused more on Peter's wife Elizabeth and her good instincts, and Ringer is finally back for the latter half of its long first season after going on hiatus in November! Ringer is as crazily suspenseful as always, though sometimes I tire of the suspense and wish Siobhan would just reveal her dastardly convoluted plot already! Haha.

Music: My newest obsession is Glee's cover of "Smooth Criminal" (Santana and Sebastian, who is totally cute) that was on the Michael Jackson tribute episode Tuesday night. The song is amazing, and much better than MJ's original, in my opinion. I also loved to watch the tension between Santana and Sebastian during the song and to hear Sebastian sing, which I don't recall hearing before. Yay! On a side note, my only gripe about Tuesday's Glee was that the cute Irish guy didn't have any speaking parts! Oh no. :/

Movies: Ah! I still haven't watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes (I plan to this weekend), though I watched Glee: The Concert Movie twice last weekend and it was awesome! I love Glee, can you tell? Lol. My sister also bought me Sherlock Holmes (the first one; one of my ultimate favorites!) for my birthday (February 27; early, I know), so I'll be watching that for the like sixth time this weekend. In other movie news, The Vow is coming out next week (eek!) AND I saw the trailer for a new Valentine's Day movie, This Means War, about two CIA agents who find out they've been dating the same girl! Haha, it looks funny. :)

#5. the power of friendship.

friday, january 27, 2012

Hey, y'all! It's been a while, eh? I thought I would be able to blog during the week, but with all my schoolwork and my late updating hours (okay, my fault), it's kind of hard sometimes. I'll try to do my best, though!

So. News. My phone replacement (for my phone that got stolen last Fridy) came in a day early on Thursday! How awesome is that? :D My mom tricked me and said it hadn't come and wouldn't come for a bit, which kind made me sad, though with my memory being so bad I'd already forgotten when I got home and found my brand-new phone! My mom said she'd wanted to surprise me, lol. I never knew she was such a convincing liar. xD

In other news, I've had a good enough week. I've had lots of good times with my close friends, which just makes you feel all warm inside, right? I'm lucky in that I live a drama-free life, and all I do with my friends is joke and laugh and have a good time. Goodness, I do love it. Note: I'll be at a friend's house for the latter half of tomorrow, so I'll update during the day and then come back Sunday morning.

Media List:
Books: I haven't been reading much besides my Roman Empire reference book which is, as I mentioned before, quite fascinating.

TV: There wasn't much TV since my last post...there was a new episode of Criminal Minds, which I found kind of jumbled and confusing rather than rightfully creepy. The preview pilot of Touch also aired on Wednesday, and it really was wonderfully mysterious! It's a brain-bender, for sure, and I highly recommend it. :) Lastly, there was a new episode of The Finder on last night, and I loved it! As you might know, The Finder is made by the creator of Bones, my favorite show, and I especially love the creator's wonderful, thorough characterization of all the series regulars!

Music: I'm currently listening to Rihanna's "Do Ya Thang" (my music's on shuffle, lol) from her new album. I love shuffling through music and discovering songs you downloaded and forgot to listen to! Haha.

Movies: I watched Glee: the Concert today, and it was good! I mean, it was just a combination of live-performed Glee songs by its cast and some stories of people who were "helped" or "changed" by the show. I kind of wished that they performed some new songs, rather than all ones that had already been done on the show, but eh, it was still good. Probably better in person though, lol.

#4. happiness.

tuesday, january 24, 2012

Even better news than yesterday - my new phone's coming in on Friday! :D I don't know if you can tell, but I'm ecstatic! Lol.

Today was a really good day, I think, mostly just because I had a good time laughing with and talking to my friends. Because that's the only reason we go to school, right? For friends? At least I do.

In other news, it started raining buckets here, which is a nice change from the indecisive cold/warm thing going on. (Storms! Whoohoo!) I'm also switching between my new and old laptop to get used to the new, and I already miss my old laptop, lol. But hey, we can't always stick to what's comfortable.

You know, every day I have at least a bit of homework, but I always look at it and I'm like "forget that" and I don't do it. Luckily, we have about a 50min lunch, which is when most people actually do their homework. Haha!

These super-late-night updates of Soroptimist and then Sensationalist are kind of cutting into my sleep time. xD I'll try to be earlier tomorrow.

Media List:
Books: Awesome! My Concise Dictionary of English Etymology book that I've been wanting for ages came in today! Color me excited! If you love etymology, the study of word origins, this book is for you.

TV: White Collar was on tonight, and it was fantastic! Jane by Design, a new show that's like Nickelodeon's True Jackson, VP in concept, was on but I was taking a nap and missed it. (Tomorrow, then.) Jane by Design is funny, suspenseful, and interesting, and it's good chick-TV, hehe.

Music: You know that feeling when you listen to a song you already had in your library and rediscover how much you love it? Lol, I had that with Next 2 You by Chris Brown ft. Justin Bieber.

Movies: Ah, no new movie news today, but the next movie coming in from Netflix for me is Rise of the Planet of the Apes (ah, who doesn't love Tom Felton? I mean, really), so I'll talk about that once I've watched it.

#3. nouveau.

monday, january 23, 2012

Ahhhh, good news, y'all. My new laptop came in today, and it's all nice and sleek and small. I love it! Also, I ordered my new phone (same as before) so it should be here next week. How exciting is that?!

In other news...everyone at school was talking about prom today, but I'm so not a partier and am totally not going, lol. It was also sixty degrees again today - and, again, this is the middle of winter! There goes hoping for snow...

Today was a boring old Monday just full of my new laptop and thoughts of my new phone, haha. When I finally get my new phone, I can rest easy! It will not leave my sight. x)

Thanks to all of my readers and the positive feedback I've received about my blog! Keep on reading and enjoying. :)

Media List:
Books: Ack! I just realized that I forgot to add this category in the Media List. xD Well, I haven't been reading much lately - just a reference book on the Roman Empire that is proving to be quite fascinating. ^_^

TV: Whoop whoop! Castle and Alcatraz were on tonight (wonderful as always) and I finished House of Lies from last night. It's actually shaping up to be quite a funny show, so I'll stick with it. Let me know what you think of the shows!

Music: I'm now wholeheartedly addicted to Taylor Swift's "Safe and Sound", which is on the Hunger Games soundtrack. I love me some Hunger Games!

Movies: Let's talk about the Hunger Games, shall we? I absolutely loved all the books, and the movie looks to be amazing. I absolutely love Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class) and the trailer proves to be pretty awesome. So check it out, even if you haven't read the books! It's going to be epic.

#2. puppy love.

sunday, january 22, 2012

Of course, it's a Sunday, so nothing's really going on. It was 70 degrees outside (it's the middle of winter here!) so I played with my two dogs for a while because they're just too cute for words, you know? :)

Oh, tomorrow I'm getting my new laptop, so I don't know how its setup will affect my updating my sites. Just a heads up.

Lastly, I have a boatload of homework today because I didn't do any yesterday. Last week was terrible even without the sweet finish of getting my phone stolen, and I needed a break.

Today on the menu is just cleaning my room and tackling my homework. I can't wait for summer! ;D

Oh, and lots of thanks to Cheese for the gift button. ^_^ Sensationalist has gotten nearly 100 views in not even a full day, which I think is a good win considering this is a blog, of all things, that was only advertised in Soroptimist's updates. Thanks for your support, y'all! And if there's anything you'd like me to blog about (especially Neo-related), let me know!

Media List:
TV: Yay, it's Sunday! Once Upon a Time comes on tonight, and I love that show (not just because I love fairy tales, lol, but because the story has so much mystery you just must keeping watching!). House of Lies is on tonight as well, and I'm not sure how much I like it. It's quite vulgar, though funny, so we'll see how long I can stand it, hehe. (House of Lies stars Kristen Bell from When in Rome and Don Cheadle from Ocean's Eleven.)

Music: Rihanna's newest album Talk That Talk is mostly wonderful, I think. My favorite songs from it are "Talk That Talk" and "Farewell."

Movies: Oh, goodness. I watched two movies last night: Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Next Three Days. The former was funny and sweet, though Steve Carrell and Emma Stone's characters grated on my nerves at the beginning. And who doesn't love some Ryan Gosling? Haha. I'd recommend CSL. As for The Next Three Days (starring Russell Crow), on the other hand...it was awful. I got through the first half and I was like "Oh god, I just want to know what happens already!" So I stopped watching the movie and looked up the rest of the plot on Wikipedia, hehe. If you like "tense thrillers" that aren't thrilling for the first hour, then this one's for you.

#1. phoneless.

saturday, january 21, 2012

Awful news. Yesterday, my amazing phone (the Samsung Galaxy S II, not even four months old) was stolen out of my schoolbag (pickpocketed, really) and nearly ruined my day. Note that this phone is, on contract, $200, and I paid for half of it, not to mention its case. D: We couldn't track my phone because the thief turned it off, so in a few days I'll be buying the same phone off-contract (and is going to be $400-500, unfortunately) and NOT lose it this time.

In other news, yesterday I went to see my school's production of The Fantasticks, which is essentially a Romeo and Juliet-story musical comedy. I loved it! :)

So I had a good day yesterday, despite the whole phone thing. My family kept making fun of me whenever I asked to use their phones (they have the same ones as I did); they'd always say "No, you're going to lose it." I told them they hurt my feelings, lol.

Nothing's really up this weekend - just homework (blah). Since none of my shows air on Saturdays, I'll just be catching up on Modern Family (I'm still on the first season).

Media List:
TV: Lots of it this week! Leverage ended its latest season on Sunday, the pilot of Alcatraz was amazing and oh-so-mysterious, people are getting married left and right in Glee, White Collar came back for the second half of its season, and Revenge ended its season as well.

Music: I'm currently obsessed with Taylor Swift's "Enchanted", as it's the theme song of the upcoming film The Vow (more about that below). Other songs include "Marry the Night" by Lady Gaga and "Why Can't I?" by Liz Phair.

Movies: The Vow, which is coming out on Feb 10, is a romantic drama about a soul-mate couple that's nearly broken up when they get into a car accident and the girl (Rachel McAdams) loses all her memories of the last few years and thus of her husband (Channing Tatum). Now the husband has to make his wife fall in love with him again while battling his wife's ex-fiance, who his wife thinks she is marrying (since the last things she remembers are of being engaged to him, not her husband). I'm not usually a fan of such movies, but it looks to be one of the most adorable movies ever (definitely a chick flick, lol) and I'm going to see it for my birthday, on Feb 27.
