- Being immortal
I didn't exactly get the best start in life. I wound up inside a garbage can shortly after I was born, so I guess my birth parents didn't want me. Or they probably thought I was dead, one or the other. But could you believe it? I was thrown away like a piece of trash.
Fortunately for me, this was back in the days before trash compactors, so I survived my trip to the garbage dump unscathed. But I wasn't out of the woods yet. I was an infant who couldn't fend for herself. I needed someone to care for me.
And to make matters worse, I was then surrounded by a flock of vullards. And one of them swooped down and started to peck at me. I bleated for help, even though it was useless. Nobody would hear me.
But somebody did.
A brown lupe showed up and pounced upon the vullards. The carnivorous birds flew about in a squawking flurry of feathers and gleaming white teeth. After the dust settled, the brown lupe had two limp, lifeless vullards in his jaws. He then walked under a shady tree so that he could eat his catch without being bothered.
I was amazed. That lupe just saved my life! I then followed him under the tree, but he simply looked at me and said "What do you want?"
I wanted to express how gratefull I was, but I didn't know how to talk. I was still just a baby, after all. So I just nuzzled him. But he just pushed me away and said "Leave me alone."
I looked at him longingly, but he just ignored me and continued eating his lunch. After he was finished, he picked up the other dead vullard and headed off towards the woods. I was right behind him every step of the way.
When he realised that I was following him, he growled and said "I don't know what you want, but if it's this bird, you're not getting any! I caught this for my mate. She's waiting for me in the woods. She can't hunt for herself right now because she's taking care of our puppies. So scram! Go on, shoo!"
But when he saw that I wasn't going to leave, the lupe groaned and said "Fine. I'll take you with me, if that's what you want. I don't see why, though." He then tossed me onto his back and continued on his way home.
As he walked through the woods, the lupe muttered to himself "I don't see why this fawn likes me so much. I'm a lupe, so I could easily kill and eat her. Maybe she's too young to understand that..."
Eventually, he reached his destination: a small cave. We were then greeted by an dark-colored lupess and two small puppies.
The lupess noticed me and asked "Mark, is that an ixi?" Mark then answered "Oh, her? She showed up after I caught this bird. She wouldn't leave me alone so I decided to take her with me. What do you think we should do with her?"
She thoght it over, then answered "Why don't we keep her until we find out where she belongs? What do you think, children?"
The two puppies barked in agreement.
But Mark and his mate, Jovi, never found my real parents. So they decided to raise me as their own. They treated me as if I were their own kind, because they hadn't the slightest clue on how to raise an ixi fawn. I even got to go on hunting trips with them and their two pups, Patch and Sammy.
My lupe family named me Ix, which is short for Ixi, of course. And since I was raised as one of their own, I actually thought I was a lupe. Until one day...
He wanted to introduce Rhonda to his family, so they went to our cave in the woods. But as soon as Rhonda saw me, she bared her teeth and leapt towards me. I was confused. Why was she attacking me as though I were her prey?
."Rhonda, stop!" Patch cried out. "This is my sister, Ix!" Puzzled, Rhonda asked him "Sister? But she's an ixi. How can she be your sister?"
I was so confused. Afterwards, Mark and Jovi told me about how I was found as a young fawn and how they decided to keep me and raise me.
When I finally learned the truth, I decided to go find a herd of ixi. I found one, but I only stayed with them for a couple of days. Since I was raised by lupes, I didn't fit in well with normal ixi, so I went back home.
After that, Patch decided to leave Meridell with Rhonda when she went back to Mystery Island. They were in love, after all.
At around that time, I became fascinated (or maybe obsessed) with faeries. Soon I began to like them so much that I even wanted to be one. I heard that there was someone who could grant my wish, but if I had known the consequences, I probably would have had second thoughts.
Have you ever heard of Nesulli? If you haven't, then that's good. She is Illusen's twin sister, but she's more wicked than her more famous sibling. She said that she could grant my wish, but at a price.
."I don't care what it is! Just hit me!" I shouted. I got my wish. I became a faerie, complete with leaf-shaped wings. But there was, of course, a price. I didn't know it at the time, but I had become immortal.
Pets that have been painted faerie by means of a paint brush aren't true faeries, so they're not immortal like I am. So if you're saving up for a paint brush, keep that in mind.
I began to suspect something was up while I was heading home. A hunter took aim at me and fired his gun. This would have killed any other ixi. But seconds after I was hit, I got up and ran off as if I was never shot.
