*waves* Hullo, guest! And welcome to Duskaro's Data Bank!
Duskaro is a starry lil' Gnorbu that belongs to me, nikki_in_wonderland. Some of Duskaro's likes include helping people, helping the environment, classic rock/indie music, gardening, and drawing. His dislikes are fake people, stereotypes, war, and those little burrs that get stuck in his mane. He's a laid-back, courteous dude who just loves to help other Neopians with the site.
That's why this page was created. I was having a problem with saving up neopoints and keeping track of all my bookmarked sites and Duskaro pointed out that he had all this space not being used. So, we decided to search far and wide for the most useful tips, tricks, stories, and help pages on Neopets and put them all up here for myself and EVERYONE to use. That means you, too, guest!
I hope you enjoy the page and find your stay here very... helpful? Duskaro and I are always on the look out for new pages to add or to affiliate with, so if you have a page
you think should be in Duskaro's Data Bank, LET US KNOW! We're also always up for suggestions and new friends. So feel free
to drop us a line, any time!

Neopets is a free, online virtual pet community that boasts an estimated 40 million individual users from all over the world (and more like over 100 million registered/activated accounts). Not only are the members diverse in culture and location, but they're diverse in personality and age as well. Most people consider Neopets a "kids site", but the site was originally aimed toward college students. Less than half of the members are under 13 and a sizeable amount are even 18 and above. I've met quite a few people over 30 around the site. In short, Neopets attracts a wide array of individuals who form a rather fun, relatively peaceful environment.
What keeps all these people coming back? It's not that hard to see. There are dozens of worlds to explore and each have various plots and mysteries to figure out. There are numerous ways to change the appearance of your pet (clothing; paintbrushes; magical potions; other, more devious things...) And there are thousands and thousands of items for you to collect, feed your pet with, use to entertain your pet, etc... And all of those things can be obtained buy gaining the Neopain currency, neopoints.
To get neopoints you can play games which are often based on classic faves. Or you can also risk a little in the stock market. If you run a successful shop and save neopoints in the bank (where it'll collect interest), you'll be well on your way to makin' some gold! Plus you can randomly find free neopoints and items around the site
Besides all that, there are chat forums called the Neoboards, where you can talk with other members about various NEOPETS RELATED topics. Or clubs you can join called guilds that usually have some sort of central theme which is a common interest of the guild members. You can also participate in the Battledome by leveling up your pets and using equipment to fight against various foes. If you love all that and can't get enough, there's also a Neopets Premium service, which you must pay for with real world money, and it comes with all sorts of special benefits such as ads being removed and your own email service (not to mention some other spiffy stuff)
Overall, Neopets has a little something for everyone. This is because Neopets offers plenty of opportunity to give feedback and suggestions on the site. Use this to your advantage, guest, Neopets wants to do what it's members want to do. Content is constantly updated and new stuff is added nearly every day. Not to mention, if you feel a little lost, there are plenty of kind members who are willing to help along the way
Though over the years there have been complaints about glitches, content change, and "unfair freezings", people still keep coming to the site and have little or no
problems with the site. There are now rumors of Neopets making more gaming advances in the near future...

There are plenty of different places for you to explore around Neopets. They all have different inhabitants, things to look at, plots to figure out, and themed shops to look through. Here are the links to all the places accessable on the Neopian map and even a few that aren't (click map image for explore page)! Plus there's a short description for each area. Dare to explore! ;)
♦ Altador - Land of ancient, forgotten heroes and home to the Altador Cup!
♦ Brightvale - Known for it's dedication to wisdom and peace. Not to mention those pretty windows
♦ Faerieland - Hang around up in the clouds and maybe do a quest or two. Think you can find the Hidden Tower?
♦ Non-existant Jelly World - How many times do I have to tell you that Jelly World DOESN'T EXIST?! If it did, though, it'd totally hang out at this link ;)
♦ Kiko Lake - Underwater home to thousands of Kikos, come take a glass-bottom boat tour!
♦ Krawk Island - Tharr be pirates on that island...
♦ Kreludor - Neopia's moon. I wonder what's out there?
♦ Maraqua - New Maraqua was rebuilt better and stronger. Dine at it's fancy restaurant!
♦ Meridell - Visit the quaint kingdom of Meridell. See if you can cheer up King Skarl, yeah?
♦ Mystery Island - A beautiful, tropical island. Be kind to the natives and they may not eat you!
♦ Neovia - This once-cursed city has been restored by its inhabitants. Have a crumpet. Or three.
♦ Roo Island - Play lots of games and be merry on the Blumaroo's island of fun! Just watch out for some of its more *ahem* nocturnal inhabitants
♦ Shenkuu - A mystical city full of merchants in the high mountains of Altador.
♦ Terror Mountain - Brrr... It's cold up there. Enjoy your slushies!
♦ The Haunted Woods - It's not so bad here. If you adore all things spooky, vile, and gross...
♦ The Lost Desert - Wander the Lost Desert and maybe strike it rich! Visit Coltzan's Shrine for guidance

There are various pages all over Neopets that are aimed at helping you keep yourself and your account secure. They will help you prevent your account from being scammed and other important stuff. I suggest you read at least the first two or three. And also, please read the RULES section below to prevent your account from being frozen!

♦ Rose_Mist's Guide to Avoiding Scams/Being Frozen - Find out about scams and other things that might lose you items or your account
There's not much else I can say except for NEVER, EVER give your pw to ANYONE for ANY reason. TNT will NEVER ask for it and anyone who does is trying to scam you!! Similarly, never change your email to something someone else asks you to (they're asking you to change it to an email account they have access to so that they can gain your pw) Also be very wary of going to websites you don't know of (this is true on and off Neopets). They can have cookie grabbers or some other intrusive program embedded into them and gain access to your private information. So BE CAREFUL. This is why external links are not allowed on Neopets. Because too many times they were leading to fake login pages or cookie grabbers.
And remember, if it sounds to good to be true? It probably is...

I'd like to say that I do not speak for TNT. This is just another place for you to look at the rules and find all the right links you'll need. I do not have the final say in what is or isn't against the rules.
Disclaimer
1.) Neopets is a game, not a way to make money

Guides on How to Act:
♦ Don't feed the 'n00bs - Learn what a n00b is and how not to be one
♦ Neo-Nettiquette - Cultured's guide to Neopets culture
♦ How not to be a 'n00b - All about n00bs
The Big No-Nos:
Many of these will be seen in Rules & Security, but apparently they can't be said enough sometimes...
One of the very first things you should know is to NEVER EVER give your secret pw to ANYONE. TNT will never ask you for it. You should never tell anyone for any reason. If you do this and you are "scammed" and lose items or nps or pets, it is your own fault. Because this tip is constantly stated throughout the site by TNT and members alike.
Something else you shouldn't do is beg. This issue is addressed beautifully here: Don't feed the n00bs. Begging can be anything from saying "Omg please please please gimme a paintbrush!" to asking for "tips" or "donations". So as a general rule, don't ask for any items or neopoints or pets from anyone. There's no need to. Free stuff is handed out all over the site. And Neopets is a GAMING site. What's the point of getting on a site you don't want to do anything on for yourself? You can play just about ANY game and get at least 50 np, which is enough to buy a couple pieces of omelette for your pet. Or check them in a motel. And your pet CAN'T DIE! So there's no need to beg for food or healing items. Especially since you can go to the the Healing Springs every half hour and get your pets healed. So please, just don't do it... It's annoying, impolite, and just plain lame...
It is also against the rules to sell pets or sell/buy/trade/take/give accounts to other people. ANYONE involved can have their account frozen (this means that the account in question, the account's "seller" and anyone who tries to "buy" it) Usually when you see people talking about selling/trading their account, they're trying to scam you anyway. Begging, selling pets, and trading accounts in anyway are all reportable offenses and could result in you getting a warning or your account frozen (removed). You may also not sell any thing owned by neopets for "real world" money. This includes things like selling nps on real online auctions or trying to sell/claim any of the artwork/etc owned by Neopets Inc as yours.
Of course cheating of any kind is completely discouraged. Anyone caught cheating will have their account frozen. This is an online game site that requires little skill or time to get by on. If you have to cheat, what's the point? I mean, you can LITERALLY do anything on this site with a little patience and practice. To me, cheating on this site is like an adult beating up a little kid. What the heck is the point? But I digress. The point is, DON'T CHEAT. Cheating includes but is not limited to: getting someone else to play games for you, using any type of automated program to play games or buy items from shops, utilizing programs to access people's private information (email, pw, etc), or well... you should know what cheating is and if you have to ask whether something is cheating or not then you probably shouldn't do it. Or contact TNT, because they'll be able to tell you for sure. Again, anyone caught cheating runs the risk of getting their account frozen and even IP banned (meaning you can't just make another account and get back on).
Contests/wishboards/lotteries/etc with prizes on boards or in guilds are not allowed. This is because sometimes when these were created they were scams to get free stuff or to get people to buy overpriced items to get nothing in return.
ALSO, recently, I've been seeing a lot of young'uns (mostly females) offering up cell numbers on the boards. Not only is this against Neopets rules, it's INCREDIBLY unsafe and potentially harmful. You are not allowed to give out your full name/address/number or give a picture of yourself on Neopets for your own safety... You don't know who's out there on the internet or what their intentions are. So you need to be very prudent and thoughtful of what you're putting on ANY webpage, not just one on Neopets. You don't have to assume that everyone on the internet is a creepy weirdo. But you also don't have to assume they're all nice and have your best interests at heart O.o So, please, DO NOT POST EXTREMELY PERSONAL INFO on your lookup, on a petpage, on the boards, or ANYWHERE... even off Neopets. It's for your own good. And if you decide not to heed that advice, you'll only have yourself to blame if something untowardly happens. Be careful!
And one last, but still very important thing - STEALING people's work is reportable and can result in your account being frozen. And by this I mean artwork (BC pictures/adoptables/graphics/etc) or coding (lookups/petpages/etc). If you try to take credit for these things or do not give credit to those who deserve it, it is considered stealing and they can very EASILY report you for this. See proof here: xxgreyfultearz Code Stealing. Just don't do it. It's so rude...
Other Stuff to Keep in Mind:
ATTENTION: These are only my opinions (and opinions expressed by other members), so you won't be breaking any rules on Neopets by not adhering to them. It's just... common courtesy, I guess you could call it. Where as the "Big No Nos" ARE in the rules and all outright discouraged by TNT.
Please refrain from chatspeak. Most people (that I know of) on Neopets detest it. This includes TyPiNg LyKe DiS or omglolomg lyke this n u cant evin tale wut im sayin or ALL IN CAPS etc. I mean a little misspelling or "lol" every now and then is fine, just don't over do it. It's quite painful on the eyes, not to mention the brain...
I'd also like to point out that although you may have an ultra-awesome computer with high speed internet doesn't mean everyone does. What you pet on your webpages (on AND off Neopets) can greatly affect someone else's computer performance. It's important to keep this in mind because a lot of images/animation cluttering a page can really bog down a computer that's slow or has a dial-up connection (LIKE MINE! I have a cable modem and it's still really hard for me to open some pages when they're all cluttered because this computer is old...) Besides being inconsiderate, it's just not good design. Especially when most of the large, obnoxious, movity images I find in people's petpages/shops can be found in nearly every other shop or petpage. If you're going to waste my time, it should at least be for something semi-unique :{ (I hope to make a petpage dedicated to this subject someday :p)
Stuff You SHOULD Do:
DO be polite, DO act as intelligent as possible, DO be considerate to your fellow Neopians. Is being a nice person REALLY all that hard?
I don't think so. Just try to play nice, make friends, and have fun. That's what this site is about.

There are several themed chat boards for you to use on Neopets. There's one where you can talk about Battledome challenges and weapons, one where you can get all your Neopets questions answered, and even one to advertise your shop and trades.
Basically the most important thing to remember is that SPAMMING is bad. VERY BAD. If you spam up the boards by making a bunch of useless topics (or by making a bunch of useless posts in one topic) it "bumps down" the rest of boards that have valid, on-subject topics. And if you do this, people will be very angry at you and probably rip your head off. So just stay on topic.
If you wonder if something might be off topic, you probably shouldn't post it. Unless you want to go to the Newbie board. It's still against the rules to post non-Neopets related topics there, but the Newbie board usually has general off-topic posts. It also contains a bunch of annoying posts and annoying people. Not suggested for the faint of heart ;)
Also, KEEP IN MIND: GIVE PEOPLE TIME TO REPLY when posting on the boards. The boards move very fast. When a person posts a topic on the boards, it moves all the other topics down. So maybe your topic just isn't being seen right away. This doesn't mean type "bump" a million times. This means wait until the Neopets clock shows AT LEAST a minute from the time you posted the topic before bumping your post. Because of the way the boards work, spam is found to be EXTREMELY annoying. Because it literally takes away from other people enjoying the site boards to the fullest.
This also means the best way to get rid of spam on Neopets boards is to just report and ignore it. I know, I KNOW! I'm guilty of it, too. I do it more often than I should... You get frustrated at the spam so you post on the board to tell the person to shove off... Which is fine I guess, as long as you stay within the rules. But you have to remember that pretty much everyone else is going to do this too. Which then bumps the board up, which then takes up more space on the boards that people could've been using for Neopets related, on-topic subjects. Therefore, defeating your purpose... So, if you can help it, refrain from posting on spam boards. If you want to post on them, then put something useful - like WHY the post is spamming/breaking the rules. Not just yelling "REPORTED!" a bunch of times (this is actually 'against the rules', now, too). If you don't have anything better so say, then just report and MOVE ON. It works much better. That's a phrase to live by if you're having problems with a member anywhere on the site, just BLOCK, REPORT, MOVE ON
Other than that, just keep in mind General Etiquette, especially the stuff about not spamming/begging, and you should be fine...
I'M GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE HERE: PEOPLE, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE NEOPETS THEN STOP GOING TO THE BOARDS AND WHINING ABOUT IT. JUST LEAVE!
I am just simply amazed at how much the people who CHOOSE to use this FREE site whine when something changes. This is a website owned by people who run a BUSINESS.
It takes a lot to run a website of this size, probably more time and money than you could imagine. If you are unhappy with your services, then just leave. You didn't invest any money here, unless you got Premium.
In which case you shouldn't have bought a paid service from a website you're obviously so unhappy with. So please, do us and yourself a favor and just leave if you're bothered by the changes that bad. Or DON'T
leave. I don't care. Just don't come to the boards and whine about it. PLEASE. It doesn't accomplish anything but making people upset and taking away from more
legitimate board posts. So please, JUST STOP.
♦ Chat Preferences - Change your avatar here
Avatars are those cute little pictures next to your name on the Neoboards. There are default ones you have access to just by having an account. But then there are also secret ones which you can obtain by completing certain tasks/goals (some easier, some harder) around Neopets. There are many guides around Neopets and elsewhere that focus on secret avatars and how to get them.
I, personally, use Sunnyneo. A Neopets fansite (formerly known as mindlessinvalid) that's main focus is Neopets secret avatars and premade neoboard fonts to match with them. But they also have other Neopets help, too
Here are some other great avatar help pages

What is a Glitch?:
For the purposes of this section, a glitch is any malfunction or error within a computer program, system or, in this case, website...
Glitches are a common occurance on Neopets (as is the same with nearly any website, especially one with such a huge population). Usually these glitches happen when the site is being updated or fixed in some manner and most commonly results in a section of Neopets not working for a short period of time. Other glitches can be more extreme and can cause problems with users' items/nps/pets/etc (for instance, the recent 2006 glitch that caused banks/etc to be shut down for a week or the one that allowed people access to other users accounts)... But most of the time the glitches are mere annoyances and are cleared up (semi)quickly.
If something seems amiss with your account (and you have NO reason to suspect your account has been scammed) or a section of Neopets, it's most likely due to a glitch. If you notice something funny, report it to TNT and try to avoid whatever area of the site that seems to be effected.
Some Good Examples:
♦ ipokepeople's Dupe Day Page
(Tell me if you know of similar pages!)
What Should I Do if I Find a Glitch?:
The first thing to remember when Neopets starts glitching out is to be CALM and PATIENT. Don't freak out, run to Help Chat and post fifteen boards about how much you hate Neopets and how much you wish you could play this game or get into this section. Because you're not the only one dealing with it and spamming HC isn't going to help anything anyway... It's okay to go to Help Chat to figure out what's going on but use some common sense, people! If there is a significant glitch on the site other people are probably experiencing it too and there is probably already information about it circulating around. Look through the list of board topics to see if there might be something pertaining to your question (this should be practiced any time you're on a message board). If not then go ahead and ask something like "The bank's not working for me right now. Is anyone else experiencing this?" And you will probably be answered. Again, if you notice something's up just report it to TNT and then maybe lurk (watch) the boards to see if there's any other information...
The second thing to remember is that TNT are NOT magicians. They cannot blink their eyes and wiggle
their toes and fix everything that's going wrong with the site. It takes time to figure out where the glitch originated, what caused it, if anyone used it to cheat on the site, and how to go
about handling the repercussions. Neopets programmers cannot stay on 24 hours a day to keep the site in PERFECT running order at ALL times just so that you can buy a plushie or collect your bank interest.
Maybe that's stinky, but that's the way it works. And regardless of what you think of TNT or whether or not they have your best interests in heart, I really doubt they're sitting in some high tower somewhere,
evilly twiddling their fingers and laughing maniacally at your virtual misfortune. When they find out about the glitch, they don't just do nothing. They may not do EVERYTHING HUMANLY POSSIBLE, but
I really don't believe they do "nothing". Besides, I'm sure these people have lives outside Neopets and if you freak out that bad over TNT not being quicker with the site repairs then
maybe you need to have more of a life outside Neopets, too O.o

There are several ways to change the appearance of your neopets. You can paint them with paint brushes, zap them with the secret lab ray, transform them with morphing or transmogrifcation potions, by random events on the site (which may be good or bad), various magical items, and now, you can even dress your pets with clothing!
Paint Brushes:
Morphing Potions (searched for as 'COLOR' 'SPECIES' Morphing Potion) will change your pet into the color and species specified.
Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water can be won from Underwater Fishing. It will randomly change your pets a variety of colors... You can find more info on Bae's Flask Fiasco Page.
Mysterious Swirly Potion is also obtained from Underwater Fishing, it will change your pet into a random L.E. pet (Tonu, Koi, Kiko, and Cybunny are known changes).
Boochi is a deranged Baby Bruce who likes to randomly change other people's active pets into babies. If you don't want a particular pet to be changed baby, it's suggested to keep this pet off your active pet spot as much as possible while browsing the site...
Invisible is another random event. The text reads as "Oh no! Where on earth is [PET'S NAME HERE], you can't find her anywhere!!! Where on Neopia could she be?
Also, if your pet get's too angry (or hungry) it could change red. Similarly, if your pet gets too sad (or sick) it can turn blue. This could happen to any pet, active or not, so do try to keep
an eye on your pet's mood!
Neggs that change your pet's appearance can be found, but I know nothing of the effects. It's said that the Kaleideonegg has similar effects to the lab ray. The Plaid Negg may change your pet color randomly, but I'm not sure which colors are available. And the Vortex Negg could change your pet into one of the four basic colors
Magical Chia Pops can change your Chia into fruit/vegetable colors and other colors. Find them in Snow Foods, but remember, ONLY MAGICAL!
Other Foods can change your pets appearance, too. Editorial #170 suggests that feeding your Kiko or Jubjub a TON of Garlic could change them into Garlic pets.
Likewise, Editorial #180 suggests that eating a ton of chocolate could change Chias (and other applicable pets) chocolate. And supposedly you could acquire a glowing pet
by feeding it a ton of Glowing Jelly. Good luck with all that feeding ;)
You can buy wearable clothing EVERY NOW AND THEN with neopoints in Uni's Clothing, Prigpants & Swothy, Tailors, and some accessories in School Supplies, Neopian Gift Shop, and Toy Shop. You can now also find backgrounds at the new Mystical Surroundings shop. Of course you can find various wearable items in shops/trades, but they could be quite spendy. However, wearable items can also come from paint brushes (and possibly certain color/species changes from the lab ray, I'm not 100% sure). And, now, you can also buy wearable items from the NC Mall. But this requires that you (or an adult) set up a paypal account and buy Neocash with a real world credit card...

There are SEVERAL fairly easy ways to obtain neopoints all over the site. That is why no one should beg, there's no reason to. This section and the pages it links to are specifically devoted to making you more neopoints. If you try, you'll make them. Even if you have a slow computer or a slow connection or even if you're bad at the games you can still make plenty of neopoints. You just have to make an effort. Good luck! And don't forget to check out Duskaro's 30k a Day Guide!
Another very helpful tip is to get a Bank Account so that you're not as likely to lose neopoints (either from those greedy ghosts or a scam). This also enables you to collect a certain amount of interest that grows with the amount put in the account. This means the more points you put in the bank the more free neopoints you can collect each day. Just remember that you must collect this yourself EVERY day and that you have to collect it BEFORE you deposit/withdraw neopoints or else you won't be able to collect interest until the next day!

Create your shop and start stocking it with all the items you don't want want to keep (especially stuff you get for free/cheap, like Dailies or when Restocking.
VERY IMPORTANT: Be SURE to use the Shop Wiz to price your items. THE ESTIMATED PRICE IN THE POP UP WINDOW IS NOT THE PRICE! It could be far too low or far too high. Copy and paste the exact name of the item you want to sell and paste it in 'What are you looking for?', then change the 'Search Items' from Containing Phrase to Identical to my Phrase then hit Search. Glance at first few prices you see, but then you need to refresh. This is because Shop Wiz shows prices in groups based on the first character of member's usernames. To get a GOOD feel for the price, it's good to refresh at least three times. But one or two will do if you're not looking for the absolute lowest price. What I usually do is look up an item, refresh a couple times, and then price the item a handful of nps below that as long as it's more than what I paid for. For instance if the lowest price I come up after a few refreshes is 250 nps, then I put it at 200 maybe. Or if it's 1200, I might put it at 1100. Sometimes it's too high. Or maybe a little too low. But I sell items fairly quickly. And if it's not gone within 12-24 hours, I'll reduce the price by a little bit. Not that this is necessarily what you should do, it's just what I personally do.
Restocking:
Restocking is the process of buying items from the NEOPIAN shops (like the ones in Neopia Central, for example) and then selling them in your shop for profit. It takes time, patience, and if you really wanna be good at it, it takes a fast computer/internet connection. But it can make you TONS! And it's how many people on the site choose to make their neopoints. Personally, I don't have the patience for it, so I rarely do it. But here are a few pointers and then you can look at the different guides and find one that works for you...
Tips and Tricks
Your Stock Portfolio - See all your stocks or buy new ones
The Neopian Stock Market works much like the real world stock market. You pick a stock (that's worth at least 15 np), buy a certain amount of shares, and then hope your stock goes up. The market refreshes about every half hour but that doesn't mean your stock will have changed in that time. Investing in the stock market takes patience and a lot of neopoints. Most people seem to say that you should find the lowest stocks available for buying and then buy 1000 shares (the maximum you can buy a day). This means that you'd be spending at least 15k on 1000 shares. But if you let it sit and it grows even a little, that could mean a few thousand points profit for you for doing nearly nothing. You just have to know when to sell and when to wait. Most people suggest letting the stock collect at least 100% before selling. But you can sell whenever you feel comfortable with the gain the stock has made.
Tips and Tricks
♦ Buy LOW, Sell HIGH
♦ Check on your portfolio as often as possible. It could be up to 70% at one moment and it could've gone back down to 20% the next
