March's Book

The Book Thief

By: Markus Zusak

It's just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery...

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

What is Book Club?

A Page Turner was created because we love books! And we thought "Why not actually read a book?". So voila, Book Club was created.

How often do you read a book?

One book is chosen each month for the guild to read. We will notify everyone of the book chosen a few weeks before the next month starts so you will have a chance to find it.

How do I recommend a book for Book Club?

If you have found a book that you would like to recommend for Book Club, neomail Nichole. If you would like for us to read a series, please recommend the first book of the series.

Am I required to read the book?

No, reading the Book Club book is completely optional. Book Club is merely to recommend new reading material. It also helps expose people to books they may not normally have picked up. Additionally it gives the guild members a topic for discussion.

Any other questions?

Just neomail Nichole to get any additional questions answered.
