Your pets becoming ILL is bad for many reasons.
When pets become ill, their happiness level will drop immediately, approximately half-way
and will not maintain above the happy/content level until your pet has been cured.
If your Neopet is allowed to stay ill for too long, it's happiness level will continue to drop until it's at the lowest level.
Having a pet who's mood is unhappy or lower,
invites the random event that will literally change pet color to blue in color
(or: If pet's mood is 'angry' color will change to red).
A permanent color change UNLESS you repaint your pet!

Neopets that are ill cannot fight in the Battledome either.

Unhappy/Angry pets are less likely to get good Random Events while you're exploring Neopia (playing on the site).

~ DISEASES: Medicine & Cures ~
There are three different forms of medicine to choose from when healing your pet.
The "instant cure medicine" from the Neopian Pharmacy will heal your pet immediately upon giving pet the necessary cure.

The "Lost Desert Cures" are from the Emergency Supplies shop, these are cheaper than those from the Neopian Pharmacy, but also lower quality. Lower quality means that you may need to give your pet several 'doses of the medicine' before your pet is cured.

A new medicine shop has opened in Shenkuu and is called Remarkable Restoratives. How effective are these medicines is still unconfirmed.

Lost Desert & Shenkuu Cures may or may not work
or how many doses are needed to completely cure pet,
has yet to be properly confirmed.

~ Good To Know ~ HINT: There are other methods of curing your pets, too! Be sure to check out the section titled Alternative HEAL Options for possibly cheaper (FREE?) alternative methods of curing your pet. Did You Know... If your pet is low on HitPoints, if you feed it a non-gross food item (one it will like!) ie: omelettes, it will heal your pet up to 1/10th of it's HitPoint Value. For example if your pet's Hit Points is 0/30 and you feed it, pet will gain 1/10th HitPoints, 3/30! For more info on healing HitPoints, see Healing Potions, Elixirs & Revivers

Boiled Bagguss	Lost Desert Cure: r87 [Rare] If you boil a Bagguss for long enough you can get a magical thick goop.	Crumble Fungus	Shenkuu Cure: r82 [Uncommon] Keep your Neopet a bit quieter with these fungi.	Elixir of the Sun	Lost Desert Cure: r89 [Rare] This glowing yellow liquid may heal your Neopet somewhat.
Erisim Unguent	Lost Desert Cure: r79 [Uncommon] This magical unguent has strange healing properties.	Finely Ground Bean Powder	Shenkuu Cure: r85 [Rare] If your Neopet seems to be seeing green spots this powder might help it feel better...	Sandy Creme	Lost Desert Cure: r87 [Rare] If your Neopet is broken out in a strange lumpiness, this creme might do the trick.
Ummagine Juice	Lost Desert Cure: r79 [Uncommon] A healthy juice that can make your Neopet feel much better.	White Squid Root	Shenkuu Cure: r87 [Rare] Your Neopet may not want to eat, but this root is quite refreshing.	Dried Black Mushrooms	Shenkuu Cure: r58 [Rare] Eating a few of these mushrooms might keep Neopets from bumping into so many things.

~Alternative HEAL Options ~

By far, the cheapest option to cure your pet is by visitng Water Faerie at her Healing Springs in Faerieland.
There is a possibility that Water Faerie may heal your pet for FREE!
You are allowed to visit the Healing Springs once every 30 minutes, you must have your ill pet as your active pet!

~WARNING~
Don't fall for the scam "help my pet is sick & I'm poor"!
Direct them to "Healing Springs" and this page.
Odds are they'll be heading to Healing Springs after scamming others of free medicine items!
Do report them to TNT 'for scamming/begging' ~ which is a freezible offense.

Cooling Ointment - r98	Fully Heal! This ointment is rumoured to cure all ailments and restore you to full health. Brightvale Potions, available at: Royal Potionery
	Fully Heal! Feeding your pet a *Yellow Healthshroom* will heal your pet from any disease. It will also heal your pet 15 hitpoints. DON'T USE IT! Much better/cheaper alternatives.
Is your needed cure too expensive? Try one of these 'full heal' options! limited to following species
	GHOST pet ~ Fully Heal! Feeding a GHOST pet *Magic Ghost Marshmallows* will restore all hitpoints and heal from any disease.
	Pteri ~ Fully Heal! Feed your Pteri any *worm or grub* item, pet will be bloated & healed from any disease.
	Kau ~ Fully Heal! Feed your Kau any *milk* item, pet will be bloated & healed from any disease.

HINT: check current cost of needed cure BEFORE
applying method to change pet's disease to
ensure needed cure won't be MORE expensive!

Your pet cannot be 'bloated' if you wish to feed your pet.

PLUS there is the possibility that you'll need

	*Floppy Tongue* Feed your pet a *Poisonous Lollypop, pet will come down with Floppy Tongue.* NOTE: doesn't seem to change an illness, only gives HEALTHY pet 'Floppy Tongue'. Item is cheap so it merits trying! Please neomail me IF it changes ILLNESS 4 U!
	*Blurred Vision* Feed pet the *Glowing Jelly, pet will come down with Blurred Vision.* Your pet MAY turn to the color: *Glowing* if feed Glowing Jelly... too many times? NOTE: it appears that either effect (color change or illness) are very random. *WARNING* You may not want to try this as an alternative illness option, if you do not want pet to be changed to GLOWING in color!
	Blurred Vision possibility Use Malice Potion either gives your pet the disease Blurry Eyes, heals your pet 3hp or does nothing. DON'T USE IT! Much better alternatives.
	*Random Disease* Feed your pet a *Ferocious Negg, pet will come down with a random disease ~ rumored to be Sneezles,* but your pet will also gain 2 to 4 strength points. DON'T USE IT! Much better/cheaper alternatives.
	*Random Disease?* if you feed your pet a *Wicked Negg* your pet *may* come down with a random disease, but your pet *may* also increase speed. DON'T USE IT! Much better/cheaper alternatives.

	Kyrii: Itchy Scratchies If you feed Kyrii pet any *apple* item, pet will come down with Itchy Scratchies.
	Quiggle: Neezles If you feed Quiggle pet any *cream* item, pet will come down with Neezles.
	Skeith: Neezles If you feed Skeith pet any *cheese* item, pet will come down with Neezles.
	Tonu: Neezles If you feed Tonu pet any *negg* item, pet will come down with Neezles.

Something Has Happened!	*Changes Pet's Color* (Petname) doesn't look very happy. In fact, (s)he looks downright Blue. Maybe a toy would help. *NOTE:* No it won't ~ it's a permanent change, unless you repaint. *WARNING:* do NOT let your pet's mood get too unhappy!
Something Has Happened!	*Changes Pet's Color* (Petname) looks very angry. In fact, (s)he looks downright Red in the face! *NOTE:* haven't found this SHH event for accurate wording, but if pet receives this one, it's a permanent change, unless you repaint. *WARNING:* do NOT let your pet's mood get too angry!
Something Has Happened! Can't See Me! HaHaHa	*Changes Pet's Color* Oh no! Where on earth is (petname), you cant find him anywhere!!! Where on Neopia could he be? *NOTE:* if pet receives this random event, it permanently changes to invisible, unless you repaint. *Exception:* you'll not receive this event if ACTIVE pet cannot be painted invisible.
Something Has Happened!	*Changes Pet's Color* A torrent of multi-coloured water falls from the sky and DRENCHES petname!!! You hear evil cackling from the sky... *NOTE:* if pet receives this random event, it permanently changes (unless you repaint) into a different (totally random) color.
Something Has Happened!	*Changes Pet's Color (or not)* Oh no! Boochi fires his ray gun and turns (petname) into a Baby!!! OR Boochi fires his ray gun at (petname), but thankfully he misses! *NOTE:* If your ACTIVE pet cannot be painted baby, you will automatically get the second event.
Something Has Happened!	ALL Pets Hitpoints Healed The Ghost Lupe growls and suddenly all your Neopets are healed back to max hit points!
Something Has Happened!	*Loss of Hitpoints* Count Von Roo appears in a puff of smoke and bites (petname) on the neck! Ouch! *NOTE:* This random event gives you Count Von Roo as a Battledome Challenger.
Something Has Happened!	ALL Pets become ILL Hubrid Nox stares at you, and his eyes glow. All your Neopets have come down with a bad case of (Name of Disease)!!! *NOTE:* he will make all of your pets sick, with the same disease.
Something Has Happened!	*Pet becomes ILL* (Petname) has suddenly come down with a bad case of (Name of Disease)!!! *NOTE:* not necessarily your active neopet, it could be any of your pets that will be affected.
Something Has Happened! (not correct image)	*Pet becomes ILL* The Darkest Faerie appears and decides to give one of your pets a disease. What did you ever do to her?! You'd better go check on your pets to see what happened. *NOTE:* not necessarily your active neopet, it could be any of your pets that will be affected.
Something Has Happened!	*Stat Increase* (Petname) has suddenly gained a level!!! OR (Petname) has got stronger!!! *NOTE:* two different random events that can increase the stats of your pet.
Secret Laboratory Ray	*Various Possible Changes* Once Per Day By collecting all nine pieces of the 'Secret Laboratory Map' pieces & attaching to your account HERE you gain access to the Lab Ray. NOTE: zapping with Lab Ray randomly does one of the following: change pet's color, species, gender, one of it's stats or nothing. For more details click HERE ~&~ HERE.
Lab Ray Scientist	*Possible Gender Change* RARE Battledome Opponent If you've gained access to the Secret Lab Ray (see notes above), refresh the page where you choose which pet to zap (before zapping) until you get the Lab Ray Scientist as a challenger & fight him in the battledome. Battling the Scientist, may cause your pet to change gender, depending upon if he makes a move that says: Lab Ray Scientist has just changed you from Male to Female!!! (or vice versa) NOTE: Withdraw from battle once you achieve the desired gender change so as not to risk another change (revert back)!
Strange Potion - r99	*Change Pet's Gender* One use only. Feed your pet this potion will change your pet's gender. Due to rarity, very expensive ~ is it worth it for a one-use-only item? May be best to have access to Secret Laboratory Ray. See "Secret Laboratory Ray" & "Lab Ray Scientist" (above) for other options of changing gender.

The fastest way to make Pet's Mood Levels drop
is to keep looking at the Quick Reference Page while
any one or more of these have been done to your pet:
pet is sick; starving; low hit points;
play with broken toys repeatedly;
feed it gross foods or foods it dislikes; etc.

Have been receiving various reports that moods are not dropping when pets have illness. This change appears to have happened when TNT changed the Quick Reference page layout. It is unsure if this intended or a glitch. Be aware, TNT may "fix" this in the future, so do continue being attentive to your ill pet's mood levels.

Chocolate Chia	*Change Chia's Color* Chocolate Food Item: The Neopian Times Issue 180 Q: How can you get the chocolate chia? Can you only get it by the lab ray, or is there a special way to get it like there is for the garlic pets? - Elm811 A: It involves owning a Chia and feeding it a whole load of chocolate. It is super rare though and you may just end up with a rather overweight Chia at the end of the day.
Pea Chia Pop - r99 & other Magical Chia Pops Pea Chia	*Change Chia's Color* Must be used on a CHIA pet to work! Not all Chia Pops will change a Chia's color (see list below) but Chia Pops, Lab Ray & Fountain Faerie Quests are the only methods of obtaining a Fruit or Vegetable Chia. The Neopian Times Issue 297 Q: Hi TNT! insert "you rock" comments here I've heard this a lot on the boards and stuff, so I would just like to clear it up. Say you have a Chia, whom you feed gooseberries every day. Will it eventually turn into a gooseberry Chia? Thanks. ~kaitlynmoo A: No, the only way to change your Chia to gooseberry (aside from the Lab Ray) is to feed it a Gooseberry Chia pop. Remember, Chia pops only work on Chias! Feeding it to any other type of Neopet just makes it a real expensive meal! Example: If your pet is painted PLUSHIE, you'll hope to get ANY LE species EXCEPT the Lutari. All other LE species will keep your plushie color, Lutari will become a random basic color. (example statement true as 1/08 ~ may wish to confirm)
Mutox Syrup - r130	*Change Pet to a MUTANT GRUNDO* One use only. This item will transform any pet into a MUTANT GRUNDO. The Neopian Times Week 41 Q: I got Mutox Syrup from the Brain Tree when I completed a quest, what does this do? Is it like a transmogrification potion for Grundos? A: Yes, this vile mixture is originally from the Virtupets Space Station. If you give it to a Grundo it will hideously mutate!
Potato Potion - r99	*Change Pet to a BROWN (KIKO?)* One use only. This item will transform any pet into a BROWN (KIKO?). NOTE: There's a bit of conflicting information, some say 'changes pet's color to brown', while MOST say 'changes pet into a BROWN KIKO'.
Turnip Tonic - r90	*(may) Change Pet's Color* One use only. Changes a non-basic color pet to a random basic color. NOTE: If your pet is already one of the four basic (blue, green, red, yellow) colors, this potion won't change color when used on your pet. Would be useful for those times when your pet is changed to a color you find undesirable. (ie: Boochi or Lab Ray zaps).
Vengeful Scroll - r99	*Change Pet to a PINK LENNY* One use only. This item will transform any pet into a PINK LENNY when you give to pet to read.
Rainbow Swirly Potion - r99	*Change Pet's Color & Raise Level* One use only. According to TNT News 03-07-2002: This magical brew will change your Neopets colour at random & raise it's level. Get your's at the Magic Shop now..."! The Neopian Times Week 30 Q: Can the Rainbow Swirly Potion turn your pet into a Robot? A: It may, but it depends how lucky you are. Most probably it will just turn your Neopet a more common colour.

Kacheek Flour ~ r99	*Fragile ~ use in battle* Possibly change opponent to a Blue Kacheek This is a Kacheek SPECIES Weapon, must be used by a Kacheek to work. Battle: 2 air & 2 light icons ~OR~ may turn opponent into a Blue Kacheek: doesn't do any icon and breaks when this happens. posted by : tjhillisback (IDB) Its main use would be to have someone steal it from you (during battle) & use it on you to make your pet a kacheek. This allows the flour to be returned to you safely while at the same time changing your pet.
Slorg Flakes - r200	*Single Use ~ in battle only* Change opponent's attached PetPet ...into a Slorg. Is it worth the expensive to be so cruel?

This is either a 33.3% or a 66.6% healer. Poor Value, not worth buying! Unless gallery collecting?		There's simply too many items (potions, elixirs, and yes, many battle items too) that are simply NOT worth the Nps, time & effort to obtain/use. UNLESS you're a collector adding item to your gallery. Some items LOOK good, SOUND (description) good and even the high-price would make it SEEM as it's a worthy item. However, that's simply not always (rarely?) true. Low on HitPoints & want the cheapest method to restore 100%?
Your pet must have at least one hit point, then go battle Inflatable Balthazar or Punchbag Bob and win, then you're back at full health!
Neopets has disabled this 'trick' during Wars.

If you opt to purchase item to heal HitPoints, best to understand what each item will and will NOT accomplish for your pet.
Need to heal during a battle? **Or** after/outside of a battle?

If during a battle HitPoint healing is desired...
Need to heal often? Consider a reusable (not single use) item.
NOTE: you may also need to consider increasing your pets HitPoints thru proper training, to enable more endurance during a battle.

How many HitPoint healing is needed/desired during a battle? Does your pet have low (under 100) or high HitPoints?
...all important questions in helping you to decide on your best option to fit within your budget.

Always 'price check & compare'...
as you will find prices will vary **often & quickly** depending upon current 'supply & demand'.

If you battle often, it may be wise to invest in 'reusable healing' items rather than 'single use' ~
you'll have to decided what best meets your needs AND your Nps budget.

Plan Ahead! Don't wait until there is a War or a Plot in progress!
Prices tend to go up considerably on battle equipment, healing potions/items, codestones, dubloons and bottled faeries!
You will save time and NPS, if you plan ahead to complete desired training and to have your battle equipment
well prepared long BEFORE a War or Plot is anticipated/begins.

Even if you DON'T battle, you need to keep your pet's HitPoints from going to low to ensure a 'happy & healthy pet'.
