Altador Cup Rankings - Questions and Answers

How do you get the avatar?

To earn the avatar you have to make it to Rank 1

Ooh, how do you do that?

You earn Rank 1 by winning the equivalent of 50 games of Yooyuball.

So does that mean I can only play Yooyuball to increase my rank?

No. As long as the scores are over the minimums, the other games count towards rank as well.

Wait, what minimum scores!?

In order for scores to count for your rank, the scores in the side games have to be over these minimums:
Slushie Slinger: 300
Make Some Noise: 3000
Shootout Showdown: 600 or 650

Huh, 600 or 650?

Because the game is so new, it's not 100% clear what the minimum is. Since I've heard both floating around the boards, I've included both. It's probably best to assume 650 and even better to score as high as you can above that.

Ok, so how do the games count towards rank? And what about draws?

Since ranks are primarily based on the number of wins in Yooyuball, here are the games listed with how many plays you need to equal one Yooyuball win:
Yooyuball Draw: 2 plays = 1 YYB Win
Slushie Slinger: 2 plays = 1 YYB Win
Make Some Noise: 12 plays = 1 YYB Win
Shootout Showdown: 12 plays = 1 YYB Win

I though Shootout Showdown needed only 10 wins?

My testing has shown that it is 12 wins, not 10. I have had one person tell me that with 49 YYB wins, it only took 10 games of Shootout Showdown to hit rank 1. The thing is, I had already done a similar test and came up with 12 games. There's a small chance that really high scores in the game makes it worth a tiny bit more, but it's unknown. 12 has been correct for the vast majority of people. Besides, wouldn't you rather assume 12 and be pleasantly surprised when your rank changed sooner, instead of assuming 10 and being unpleasantly surprised when it changed later?

Ok, so what about the other ranks?

All are based on Yooyuball Win Equivalents even though I only wrote it out for the first one.

Rank 1 = 50 Yooyuball Win Equivalents
Rank 2 = 100
Rank 3 = 150
Rank 4 = 200
Rank 5 = 275
Rank 6 = 350
Rank 7 = 425
Rank 8 = 500
Rank 9 = 600
Rank 10 = 700
Rank 11 = 800
Rank 12 = 900
Rank 13 = 1025
Rank 14 = 1150
Rank 15 = 1275
Rank 16 = 1400
Rank 17 = 1550
Rank 18 = 1700
Rank 19 = 1850
Rank 20 = 2000

How do they determine points in the prize shop at the end?

None but TNT know that. I assume that it would be based on some combination of goals, points, and number of plays.

So, apart from the avatar, what is the point of ranks?

They look good when people click your trophy at the end. Seriously though, ranks themselves don't really do anything. However, I think of them like this:

Ranks are based on games played
So
The higher my rank = more games played
And
The more games I've played, the more goals and points I've submitted
So then regardless of how prize shop points are figured out
The higher my rank, the more points I'll have at the end!

Wait, so how long does this thing last?

I don't know the exact number, but it's around a month.

While I'm at it, what's with all the alphabet soup on the boards?

Since the Altador Cup has so many bits and pieces to it, it's only natural that us lazy humans would start shortening the names of everything. Below is a list of common Altador Cup game abbreviations.
AbbreviationMeaning
MSNMake Some Noise
ShoShoShootout Showdown
ShShShootout Showdown
SoSDShootout Showdown
SSSlushie Slinger
YYBYooyuball
