I closed my eyes on the blueish night and inhaled the cool night air. My lungs, though thousands of years old, filled up eagerly and held the air as long as I could. I let the oxygen full the vessels of my body, letting myself soak in the pleasure of air. I opened my eyes and narrowed in on a small bullseye etched into the bark of a Cypress tree a fair distance away from me. I felt the copious amounts of fabric from my dress billow around me in the breeze, as did my hair. What was normally silver and fell to the base of my back, was now shining in the moonlight and flicking about my face.I strode to the top of one of the rolling hills of the English countryside and reached to my back for my bow and a quiver. I stretched the bow in front of me, lined up the arrow point, and released. The arrow pierced the bark on the other side of the field, directly in the center of the target. I looked to the edges of the forest where some animals had come to join me. I smiled at a doe and she nodded back at me.
I strode across the field in a quick, graceful lope. Much faster than humans of course, for I was inhuman. I was a Greek Goddess, and my life was endless. I was created at the dawn of time, and my soul shall exist until the last second ticks away. All of my senses were sharper than those of humans, or so they say. I'd never actually met a human. I've watched them from the sky, but that was as close as I'd ever been. The last time my people had interfered with human life, the devastation of Pandora occurred. Therefore I was banned, as all gods and goddesses were. My mother, Artemis, knew no more of humans than I did.
So I was stuck with roaming the globe in the safe shadows of the night. Zeus and Leto, my grandparents, had no explanation to where the other gods and goddesses had fled to. I'd met some before briefly, centuries ago. At the moment some could be in disguise, others could be living in the clouds, while some could have simply become stars in the night sky. My mother lived in the sky with Zeus and Leto, in the clouds over Greece. My mother's twin brother, Apollo, roamed the Earth just as I did. We could circle the globe in under one minute.
