A soft wind blows across the moonlit field making ruffling waves of grass stir around your feet. You look up to admire the night sky, full of dark billowing clouds. The lack of stars interests you though. Where are they?

"Its beautiful isn't it?" says a gentle voice beside you.

You stumble and fall down in surprise and look up into the face of a magenta Ixi. She gives a look of concern and helps you up.

"I'm sorry, did I scare you?" she asks worryingly.

You start to nod, but then shake your head. It would be hard to imagine being scared of a pretty Ixi like her.

The Ixi smiles and gives a small sigh of relief. "That's good." The Ixi blinks and looks off into the endless field. "You must be cold." she comments. "Follow me."

Willingly you go along with her and she leads you to a camp fire. The Ixi lays on a log and fans the fire with her wings to make it hotter. You sit down opposite her and stare into the flames.

"I'm Cherry_Sunflare." says the Ixi. "You can call me Cherry if you want." Cherry looks at you and tilts her head in expectation.

"Oh, um, I'm #GUEST." you reply.

Cherry smiles at you again. "Welcome to the field. It's a special place full of dreams." Cherry scans the sky slowly. "It's never daylight here. I'm not totally sure why, but I think its because dreams cannot survive unless its night."

"Why are you in a place like this then? Can't you leave? " you inquire.

Cherry stops watching the sky and directs her gaze at you. "Well, yes, but not exactly. There are certain times when a portal opens up into Neopia. Mainly at night. You must have accidentally stumbled into one."

"Um, I suppose so..." you mumble.

"You'll have to wait for a while until another one opens up. Until then, how about I tell you a bit about me." Cherry settles her wings against her back.

~:My Story:~

I'll tell you the story about how I came to be here....

"I used to have a family when I was young, just like everybody else. I had an owner, a sister and a brother. We were really happy together. Then one day, something happened to me. I was following my owner down the street when suddenly they disappeared. The whole street and everyone on it disappeared. I found myself in this place, all alone. I searched the field for hours, but I never found them. Then a voice spoke to me from above. It said; 'Do not be afraid. Destiny has brought you here to watch over this field.' But I was afraid to be in such a lonely desolate place. I soon discovered about the portals that lead to the outside world and I left the field to search for my family once more. I finally found where they were living. I was so happy with the thought that I was going to be with them again. I expected warm welcome backs and hugs from my owner and siblings. But when I went inside to see them, they did not remember me. Not at all. I ran out the door and to the nearest park. I cried myself to sleep and when I woke up, I was back in the field. No matter where I run or what I do, I cannot escape from this place for long. I am lonely, but I am always hoping that someday that will change..."

~:The Field:~

The wind gently pushes against Cherry's wings. She closes her eyes for a second and takes a deep breath before she starts.

"This field is special. It is a realm full of dreams. Dreams have lives of their own and this is where they come to rest before they set out to fill the minds of those sleeping. I can sometimes see what dreams hold and who has had them recently. It is an ability I have learnt during the time I have been here. Though, I am not quite sure why I am here. I am supposed to watch over this place and make sure no harm comes to it, but I don't see why. All I can guess is that my presence here is enough to ward off the evil spirits that turn dreams into nightmares. Whenever I leave through a portal, somehow I always find myself back here after a while. The portals are special too, but they are also treacherous because they let the nightmares in. Maybe that is why the field won't let me leave for long, when the nightmares build up too far. All I know is that I am destined to be here forever and nothing can break this magic bond between me and this place."

~:Friends:~

I'm always looking for new friends. I would love to meet more Ixi like myself. With each new friend I meet, I find that I don't feel as lonely.

Giving is a pretty nice Ixi. Once you get to know him. It took me a while until I found out how sweet he can be. Before that I thought he was rude and arrogant. Giving is a special Ixi. He's the Guardian of Fire and Metal. I'd love to have the powers he does! He can throw fireballs anytime he wants! And he can transform into a fire version of himself. I think that's really cool. There's only one thing I don't get about him, and that's the frying pan he named Sandy that he carries around. I met Giving when I went into his cafe one day.

Rapture is a good friend of mine. She's a little bit self-absorbed at times, but I know that she cares a lot for other people. I think Rapture is really smart. She works as Giving's manager and image consultant, and she knows a lot about fashion and make up. She also helps out at the cafe Giving owns. Giving and Rapture have been really nice to me. Whenever I am able to leave this place, they let me stay at their home until I have to come back here.

For every beginning there is an end...

Cherry's head looks up as though she senses something. She turns just as a large purple swirling hole opens behind her. "You may leave now." she says quietly.

"Will I ever see you again?" you ask as you stand up.

Cherry stares into your eyes. "Maybe yes, maybe no. I can never tell where and when a portal will open up. Or even if a portal will ever open again. Now quickly, before it closes." Cherry looks away from you, as if she was trying to hide her feelings.

With one last glance at the magenta Ixi you step into the hole and fall away from the field...... You slowly open your eyes and find yourself in your own bed. "Was it all a dream, or was it?" you whisper to the night sky, full of twinkling stars...
