What Are Sidebar Themes?//

Sidebar Themes, in a nutshell, are basically background images that make that dull, boring, & basic Yellow Sidebar on Neopets a bit more interesting to look at. Some even hold special powers! For example, the Birthday sidebar will give you increased random events whenever it is in use! Not many have been released, but as Neopets continues to release them, I will continue to update this page.

**Please note that although none of the sidebars here show top ads, it is only the Birthday & Premium sidebars that do not have ads when they are in use. It was just easier for me cropping if I took out the ads. UPDATE: My mistake. If you have Premium Neopets, no matter which sidebar you use, you will not have ads. Thanks to the Neopian that pointed this out! :) **

Altador Constellations Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// Visit the Kings Chamber once you've COMPLETELY finished the Altador Plot. You can't get it before then. Plot is still open

How to Unlock it// Click Here if you participated, and got at least one point in the Altador Cup

Birthday Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// Sorry, you can't unlock this one! The only time that you have this one is on your birthday (or at least, the birthday that you used to sign up with Neopets) and on Neopets Birthday (November 15)
Advantages// Increased Random Events, No Top Ads

Cyodrakes Gaze Sidebar//
How to Unlock it//If you made a guess during the Cyodrakes Gaze plot, go here. If you got at least two correct answers, you'll get it.

Halloween Sidebar//
How to Unlock it//1. This sidebar was given to the winners of the first Random Contest (the pumpkin carving one)
2. Random Event between 11:55 PM - 12:00 AM NST on October 31st.

Maraquan Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// If you fought or were a supporter in the Curse of Maraqua plot,
and got atleast one point Go to the Prize Redemption Center
and at the very bottom you can purchase this sidebar.

Premium Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// Refer 5 people to Premium Neopets.
However they must stay after the 2 week trial period.
Advantages// None except to quote Wenchy; "it looks really cool"
Disadvantages// Sidebar will be lost if you discontinue paying for Premium.

Qasalan Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// If you participated in the Lost Desert/Qasalan Plot you can unlock the Qasalan Sidebar Theme by going to the Lost Desert Prize Shop
Advantages// None that I know of
Disadvantages// This sidebar takes some getting used to, unless you've memorized where everything leads to. Unless you roll over them, the sidebar buttons are in Hieroglyphics.

Valentines Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// You must send, or be sent, A Mysterious Valentines Card on February 14
Advantages// None that I know of
Disadvantages// Once you send the Card, it disappears, so you cannot resell it.

Winter Sidebar//
How to Unlock it// 1. It was a Winter Random Event the day it was released. There had been no more reports of getting it after that day, until...
2. On 12/31/05 the Sidebar Theme was given out as a random event to people that visited the Advent Calendar. Not everyone got it, however. In the NT Issue 228 Editorial TNT mentioned that getting this one is NOT random, although they wouldn't mention specifics. I'll update as I know more.

Random Sidebar Facts//
Just some odd, random things that me or other Neopians have come across that have to do with Sidebar Themes xD

1. As long as it is not February 14th, you can safely send A Mysterious Valentines Card from one account to another without it disappearing. Only on February 14th will you get the Sidebar Theme & the Card will disappear.
--Tested and confirmed by me--

2. When you go to Terror Mountain with the yellow sidebar theme, there is a snowflakes background. If you go with any other sidebar, it's not there.

3. The Birthday Sidebar basically overrides every other sidebar theme. So, for example, if your birthday is on Oct. 31, the day everyone normally sees the Halloween Sidebar, you will see the Birthday Sidebar. But there is hope for you yet! ^_^ You can still unlock those sidebars which you may not be able to see.

FAQ//
 Q: Where do you go to change your sidebar once you have unlocked a theme?
A: Click 'Help' on the yellow sidebar. Then click 'User Prefs' (the Valentines Bruce Plushie). Scroll to the bottom of the page. From there you should be able to choose which Sidebar Theme you wish to use.

Q: Premium Neopets? What's that?
A: Basically, it's a paid version of Neopets. http://www.neopets.com/~Chendros & http://www.neopets.com/~leto can explain it a lot better than I can.

Q: But I have the Valentine/Halloween/Etc Sidebar Theme and I didn't do anything!
A: Unless you do what is required to unlock the Sidebar Theme, you will only have it for one day. You having it does not mean you have unlocked it until you see the event that will look something along the lines of this:

Q: Does the 'Mysterious Valentine Card' disappear after you send it to someone?
A: Yes. The person you send it to doesn't even recieve the item.
Just a Neomail that would look like this:

Q: Do you have to be in the Haunted Woods on Halloween to get the sidebar?
A: No. You can be anywhere on the Neopets site that allows Something Has Happened events. (So, you can't be on a petpage, playing a flash game, reading the Neopian Times, or playing a NeoAdventure)
