Once upon a time, a very long time ago.... okay it was in April of 2004, maybe not that long ago...
There were two girls that begged their mom for more time on the computer. They just had to have more time to explore all the wonders of Neopialand, the world of NEOPETS.
In their efforts to explain their desperate need for more computer time they got their mom (my owner) to join Neopets too, so that she could see for herself how family friendly and safe Neopets was for her children. My owner was amazed at all there was to do in Neopialand ~ so much more than just playing games!
There were new lands to explore, valuable life lessons to be learned such as "if it's too good to be true, then DON'T BELIEVE IT" (scammers! They exist in the real world too!) and real life-related skills to be mastered.
Skills such as shopping savvy~finding a good bargain; Neopoints (Neopialand 'money') investing and saving benefits; and the list goes on! Just not enough time in the day, week, month.... to discover it all!
My owner said, "WOW! You do need more time to play~this is a great way to spend your time on the computer!" My owner and her two daughters were having so much fun playing Neopets together, taking turns thru out the day sharing the computer. Each having their OWN accounts, helping each other with tips and suggestions as they were learning more about Neopets.
Not long after they learned how to be shop-aholics using the Shop Wizard, Auction and Trading Post~they started surprising each other with little gifts. Sending a neomail just to say, "I love you" along with the gift of a 'Loveberry' or 'Bottle of Love'. These three Neo-addicts were having so much fun!
As they played they were quickly developing a fondness for their own favorite neopet. My owner, iseejohn~just adores me (of course!) BLINKIBU ~ a blumaroo, and showers me with gifts, lots of love, hugs and kisses everyday. Her eldest daughter affectionately admires Bruce and her baby-girl simply adores bunnies, hence her fascination with Cybunnies!
With their love of a favorite pet, they began collecting items to start a gallery in honor or their own choice pet. Soon they were gifting to each other any related items that they would discover and purchase during their travels.
Iseejohn received surprise gifts of Blumaroo related items; babiedaisy4 (my owner's youngest daughter) received gifts of Cybunny-related items along with carrots and other bunny-fun stuff; theperfectbrucelover (*my owner's eldest daughter) received~what else? BRUCE items! *LOL*
It was exciting for them to wander into Neopialand... wondering "What sweet little token of love & appreciation is awaiting me today?" With great anticipation, they'd watch each other as their loved one would find their surprise gift!
Let's not forget!! I, along with all their other pets ~ also benefited! What wonderful food, toys and baubles our owners' were showering upon us too! It was like a birthday party EVERYDAY for EVERYONE!
My owner was so thrilled when her baby-girl would find a gift for her, especially anything related to me~BLUMAROOs! Her favorite blumaroo gift received from her youngest daughter were the 'Blue Blumaroo Slippers' and 'Blue Blumaroo Ears'. How adorably cute are these!?!!! Oh, they are sooooo comfy too, I wear them every nite just before going to bed.
It was very difficult and rare for these three owners to find items for each others' collections. This was long before their discovery of a helpful neo-fan site that has every neo-item listed in it's database. So whenever they stumbled across a new item for one of their collections it was incredibly exciting for them!
You should have seen all the excitment and anticipation the day my owner's eldest daughter found her FIRST blumaroo-related gift.
Theperfectbrucelover said to my owner, "Oh mom~you won't believe it! I found you something for your blumaroo collection! I just can't wait til you see it!" She even called her mom at work to tell her, she was just too excited to wait!
My owner could hardly contain herself... the anticipation of a new item for her collection distracted her for the rest of the day... she could hardly wait to get home to see what it might be.
Hours later, the two of them finally got together and visited Neopialand. Theperfectbrucelover just knew how excited her mom got everytime her little sister gave their mom anything blumaroo-related, now she too had finally found something her mom didn't have for her collection!
With Theperfectbrucelover sitting next to her mother, they unwrapped the gift that was given with love and great anticipation. As the wrapping from the gift fell to the floor...
Iseejohn~eyes as big as saucers, hands clutched to her chest... her mouth gaping... she was in total shock ~ she let out the loudest breathtaking *GASP*... in total HORROR!
Theperfectbrucelover, with the most heartbreaking sadness and disappointment said, "What? You don't like my gift? It's a blumaroo item, I thought you'd love it! You always like everything my sister gives you."
Iseejohn said, "Oh honey, I'm so sorry.... but NO I don't like it. Don't you know what you've given me?"
Theperfectbrucelover reply, "Yeah... it's a 'blumaroo steak'. I thought you'd like it since you didn't have one. I was so happy to have finally found you a blumaroo item, why don't you like it?"
Iseejohn said, "Well, let me try to explain... see the blue edges on the steak, what do you think the steak is made from?"
Theperfectbrucelover just looked at the steak with a puzzled look on her face for a few minutes... then... her eyes got as big as saucers, her mouth gaping open, she replied, "OH NO! That's not from a BLUE Blumaroo is it? Oh Mom, I'm sooo sorry ~ I didn't know! I just saw that it said 'Blumaroo Steak', I thought it meant that it was a steak FOR Blumaroos!"
Since there is no burial grounds for pets... my owner did the next best thing with the 'blumaroo steak'. With a moment of silence and a small faerie blessing they sent it to the dump** for a less than perfect burial.
That was when our owners first realized that Neopialand isn't the 100% safe place for us ~their pets~ as they had thought it to be. It was in that moment that these three naive-owners learned that there is something ~or someone~ evil that is doing wickedly cruel things to us, the beloved pets of Neopialand.
In their efforts to protect their pets, our owners have been working hard at keeping us healthy, happy and strong to assist us in protecting ourselves from any harm.
