Hi 9np. My name is beatmetoapulp. I am a happy chia now but my life has not always been good. I was born with 2 obstacles in life that I have had to overcome. Firstly, I am a chia. Lots of neopians like to make fun of us. I think that they are just jealous of the fancy colours that we come in.

Secondly, my owner gave me a name that most people have tried to make me live up to. Early in my life many succeeded but since my owner sent me to the training school and bought me some cool toys to play with in the battledome, many people tried to beatmetoapulp but few did.

I am retired from the battledome now since most of my toys don't seem to work as well as they used to. I guess they were getting old. Since I don't battle as much anymore I thought I would like to pass on some of the things that I've learned in the battledome.

The more your pet goes to the training school the stronger he gets. At the training school I learned about levels, strength, endurance, defence and agility. Levels only came in handy up to 50. After that, they only let me train other things like endurance and strength. I can move really fast but that doesn't seem to help me in the battledome. Training endurance gave me more hit points so I could last longer in fights. But I liked training strength the most. The stronger I got, the more damage I could inflict on my opponent and I could win fights against pets with more endurance than me. The amount of damage that your pet can do does not increase with each strength point it gains. The damage that your pet can do only increases at certain levels. My owner calls these strength boosts. When you are between strength boosts, your pet will do the same amount of damage whether it is at the top or the bottom of the range. These are the strength boosts and ranges that my owner found for me.

The damage per icon is based on cautious attack because when you use cautious attack, you do the same amount of damage as you would when you use an ability like burrow or fiery gaze which don't affect the amount of damage that you do. The actual amount of damage that you do to your opponent (assuming they don't use any defense weapons) will vary according to which attack ability you use and which attack ability your opponent uses.

For instance, if you use fierce attack, your weapons will hurt your opponent more than if you used cautious attack. If, on the same move, your opponent also uses fierce attack, the amount of damage that you do to your opponent will be even more.

I found that when I used certain abilities, the amount of damage that I did to my challengers changed and this is by how much.

If you use:

Defend

your damage per icon will be:

80%

Cautious Attack

100%

Normal Attack

120%

Jump & Attack

130%

Fierce Attack

140%

Berserk

150%

For instance, assuming your opponent uses cautious attack on all of his moves, if you do 50 damage using cautious attack, you will do 40 using defend, 60 using normal attack, 65 using jump and attack, 70 using fierce and 75 using berserk.

Some people will say that using fierce or berserk doesn't increase the damage per icon but actually increases the number of icons. Counting icons doesn't always work especially when you consider that when you use the defend ability, your weapons don't do fewer icons. Using these percentages you will be able to determine how much damage you can do right down to the last hit point, which, if you've fought a lot you know, can be critical.

The damage done to your opponent is increased or decreased based on the ability that they use and is based on the same percentages.

If your opponent uses:

Defend

your damage per icon will be:

80%

Cautious Attack

100%

Normal Attack

120%

Jump & Attack

130%

Fierce Attack

140%

Berserk

150%

For example, if you used cautious attack every move and did 50 damage to your opponent when he used cautious attack, you would do 40 damage if he used defend, 60 if he used normal attack, 65 if he used jump and attack, 70 if he used fierce and 75 if he used berserk.

To calculate how much damage you can do to your opponent you can use the following formula:

# of icons from your weapons
x Damage per icon (based on your strength boost)
x % of damage based on attack ability used by you
x % of damage based on attack ability used by opponent
= Damage to your opponent

Remember that this works both ways so the amount of damage your pet suffers is based on the ability you use.

A couple of notes here –
  • The defend ability always decreases your attack by 20% and reduces the amount of damage done to your pet by 20% regardless of whether your pet's defence is 1 or 1,000.

  • If your opponent is frozen, the damage that you do will be the same as if he used cautious attack.

  • Certain weapons do less than a full icon of damage even though in the battledome it may show as a full icon. For example, a water muffin does more damage than a radioactive muffin even though they both do a constant 15 icons of attack. A radioactive muffin will only do the damage of 13.5 icons while a water muffin does the damage of 15 icons.

  • These calculations do not always hold true in 2 player fights. Sometimes you (or your opponent) will do much more damage than you should based on your strength and the number of icons - I don't know why - it just happens sometimes.

Just to throw a wrinkle into all of this, some pets have a resistance to, and some are more vulnerable to, certain types of attacks.
