For Newbies

So you have heard of restocking - on the neoboards, on every neopoints-earning guides and even in the neopia times! You've asked many successful rich neopians and their secrets and most of them probably told you: "I get rich from restocking!". What is this thing called restocking? That's what the guide is all about! This guide is targeted to neopians of all experiences with restocking. This guide include tips, shop coverages, and basic knowledge to learn this instant-profit-making art. This guide is purely based on my knowledge and experience with restocking.

This guide is quite new so the shop coverages section is incomplete.

What is restocking?

Restocking is getting items and selling them in your shop. It's the most easiest and popular method of earning neopoints. Most say restocking is buying items from neopian shops, but I would like to expand that to all items that you find including random events, games, your dailies, trades/auctions, etc.

How do you gain profit from restocking? Aren't the item's has the same price value as any shop?

There are two type of shops in this restocking business, neopian shops (runned by computers) and user shops (runned by people). Item prices differ when items are compared between neopian shops and user shops. You might buy an item for 1,200np from a neopian shop and if you look it up on shop wizard (which creates a list of user shops selling that certain item), it might cost 500np or lower than the price you bought it for from a neopian shop (which makes you wanna scream) which is something you should avoid doing. However, there are items that can be bought cheap from a neopian shop and is a lot more expensive on shop wizard's list of user shops - this is where you make a profit. Here's an example:

I buy a Neopian Mote Cookie for 1313np from The Bakery, a neopian shop. Then I use Shop Wizard to see how much users are selling this nifty item for...

As you see, the lowest price on shop wizard is 5555. Reselling items prices should be the same as the users list . And WOW, you only bought it for 1313 and yet other users buy it of YOU for 5555 - You just earned 4242np profit! That's what you call restocking. (Lol @ Crazy Number Patterns)

Requirements:
  • You will need a good supply of neopoints. 10,000nps would be a fair minium. Why do you need neopoints? Well, you are going to do some buying and that requires neopoints.
  • A shop at the size of 4 or 5 if you're going to buy a batch of items.
  • A good internet connection would be a plus since you're competing with other neopians in restocking as well. There's no difference between fast and slow computers though - it's just the certain options your computer is set on. Make sure you flush out your cache often and delete any unneeded cookies in your browser.
Buy Items

Choose and click on a shop. The shop may present themselves a range of items. To buy an item, click on your choice. A pop-up asks you if you want to purchase this item for this price. Click OK.

Haggle

Now the haggling screen. You type in your price next to the "Your Offer". Don't haggle the item. There's a misconception that you should pay the same exact same price it is selling for. WRONG! Your goal when buying items is to get good items to sell. People will wanting those items as well. Therefore, you need to be QUICK. Otherwise, people will buy the item before you. You'll need to type numbers quickly in the haggle part.

TIP: When haggling, type prices in a 1212 pattern since they are quick to type. If the item cost 3419np, I would type 3434. If your dealing with big prices, add another number to the pattern like with 233,263np, type 234234.

Lets take that screenshot as an example. The Kacheek is asking 590np for that Super Sub. So I would haggle like this: 545, 543, 544, 533, 595

You will be assured that you will get the item easily accepted if your haggle price is over than what the shop is selling it for. However, don't overprice. The shopkeeper will say its too much meaning you'll have to be haggle again. And of course, don't underprice either. The shop will ask for more meaning more wasting time haggling or if you stupid enough to way underprice and dealing with shopkeepers with anger problems, they are not afraid to kick you out of their shop. Avoid wasting time haggling and be quick getting the item.

Pet Clicks

After you type your haggle, there's an image underneath the text. Click the neopet in the picture.

Results

After you've done this process of buying an item (what a load of trouble compared to real life), you will recieve two results.

You were fast enough...

If you were unlucky...

There are other neopians out there restocking too so even if you were perfect with the haggling bit, it won't be guaranteed you will get the item. You'll just need to be at top speed.

Now you have your item, time to sell it! Read "Managing Your Shop" guide below Shop Coverages.

And sometimes, you will encounter shops that are as empty as a void.

How come there's no items in these shops?

The items are probably sold out because there are other neopians that are restocking and buying items as you are. Or, you're probably on a restock ban.

So, how am I suppose to buy an item then?

You wait for the shop to restock. The only problem is that it could be ANY time so there's no certain time or pattern that the shop will restock. There are some shops that restock 30 seconds later from the first restock, some takes 6 minutes to restock, some even make you feel like they have not restocked at all so there are endless possibilities when the shop restocks. It's a matter of luck and patience.

And this scary restock ban?

Not banned as in official TNT freezable/warnable offenses, you are just banned from seeing what neopian shops are selling so that other neopians have a fair chance to restock. This happens when you've been refreshing a shop too much. To see if you are on a restock ban, go to Tiki Tack, a place full of junk items that rarely sell out and see if there's any items. If not, HAHA - Ahem, I mean, you're on a ban. Don't worry though, the restock ban is only here for a short period of time and it will lift soon.

Tips

  • Have two windows/tabs with different shops in it and buy items when one of the shops restock.
  • Refresh every minute.
  • Know your shop. Do some research on what items to buy and such.
  • Play some music. It will soothe your mind if you get frustrated missing an item.
  • Bookmark your shops.
  • Use two hands when haggling. One on the numbers, one on the mouse.
  • Restock on Half Price Day (Every 3rd Day Of A Month)
  • If you're from a different timezone, take advantage. Know what time when most Americans and Canadians are asleep meaning less traffic and attention to the shops. For New Zealanders, they're usually tucked in bed at nightime.
  • And of course, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

Why? Cos people target items at the top, while no one pays attention to the bottom where most good items are...

Personally, I don't like this shop very much since this shop has quite a bit of junk items that do little profit even though most guides say every book is profitable. There will be a heap of newbies competing with you as well.

Recommended NP Supply: 20,000np - 40,000np

WHAT TO BUY:
  • Any books that restock in quanities of 1 - 3.
  • Any books that look unusual, showy.
JUNK ITEMS

Thanks, Sareko for the info! :)

I personally love this shop. I'd also recommend it for beginners, although you won't make much profit then, because the backgrounds that normally restock in large batches (15-20s+) don't give much profit anymore."

Shop Code: 108
Difficulty: Easy - Medium
Recommended NP Supply: 20,000 - 40,000np

WHAT TO BUY:
Backgrounds that look unique. They have more detail than the ones that aren't worth much. For example compare a Red Starry Background to a Stars and Moon Background. The S&M Background has more detail in it, correct? Just don't buy things which are considered junk (check below).

JUNK ITEMS:
About 99% of backgrounds give you profit (as long as you don't offer something stupid). However, I'd recommend you don't buy these, unless you're a beginner, or want them for yourself.

  • Starry Red/Yellow/Blue/Green Background
  • Sketch/Fire/Faerie/Split Painted Background
  • Cheese Shop Background
  • Gorball Field Background
  • Grassy Meadow Background
  • Games Room Background

Transferring Items to Your Shop

On the inventory page, there's a pile of links above the items. Click on "Quick Stock".

Check off "Stock" next to the item you want to be sent to the shop. Then press "Submit".

Pricing Items

You will need to see how much users sell your item choice for. Go to Shop Wizard, copy and paste your item's name into the search box next to "Search Text" And the second option, choose it under "identical to my phrase".

Now, you need to be informed that Shop Wizard follows a certain system when listing users and prices. Shop Wizard lists with usernames beginning with a certain letter. It follows...

an0, bo1, cp2, dq3, er4, fs5, gt6, hu7, iv8, jw9, kx_, ly, mz

A suggested strategy is to find your shop wizard group. So my username is hydroaqua101012. My beginning letter is H. My username is in hu7 group.

Then it would be ideal to get your item to sell out and get profit fast. Therefore, you should get your username on top on the list. And to be on top of the list, you make your item cheaper than the one on top.

Let's use that Super Sub I bought earlier as an example. The first one on top of the list with the price, 999 is obviously having a cheap price to be on the top list. I wouldn't make my price cheaper based on that price because that person's item will sell out and you are left with the price a lot cheaper from the rest. So, you make your price cheaper than the second one with the price, 1200. I would price the Super Sub 1100np.

A user buy from cheap prices. Cheap prices on are the top. If you items are cheaper than the rest, they are bound to buy off you. :) Be careful not to make it go too cheap. There are other professional restockers that use the same strategy meaning there will be an endless cheap pricing to kick you off the top and restockers willing to fight back meaning decrease in the item price.
