You know what, people? Yeah. Neopets IS just a game! But want to know something ELSE? Behind that user account is a PERSON. Someone who has FEELINGS. And I can guarantee that almost every one of us has had to deal with some issue of esteem or something else sometime during our lives.

THAT person, who you just called ugly on the computer, could have just gotten over a SERIOUS disorder and is still weak from it. It may be the computer, but they had to DEAL with that personal issue, and attacking them could just totally ruin their day. And, it could totally ruin their LIVES. That person you just wished that death come to their parents? They just LOST someone close to them. Or they HAVE no parents. That person who you just called stupid? They are struggling with issues at home which is affecting their grade, no matter how smart they are.

Just because a screen is hiding you from the internet seeing you gives you no right to bully others.

How do YOU know what that other user is dealing with? How does that person DESERVE to be reminded of the real world when they come on to neopets to escape, if only for a little while?

If you say that internet bullying doesn't bother you, I'm really glad to hear it.. That means you must be really confident in yourself, and it's good to see people setting an example like that out there. However, not taking the time to UNDERSTAND what someone might be going through is not the way to go.. Please consider others feelings.

Just because this is a game, does not mean you should be allowed to pick on someone. YOU might think it's laughable, but again, that person might be dealing with that exact issue in real life and to make THEIR game an unenjoyable experience, just so you can get some kicks out of it and make it more interesting for yourself, is not my idea of humor.

Internet bullying is the same as real life bullying: no matter what you say, if the bully suddenly hits home and destroys something deep inside you, it's the SAME. Just because you cannot see the person, does not make it any more right to call names..

Please, for the love of Fyora, dig deep within yourself.. take a deep breath... and pull out a civilized person. Someone who shows respect.. and maybe even random acts of kindness.. it is THEN neopets will change. It is not the staff members, nor the economy.. it is US. Let US build a world in neopia that we can all enjoy.


Just as an fyi, these two users said that they hoped the one user's parents... "no longer existed" if you get my meaning. THIS situation was the inspiration for this page. I dedicate this to the poor user who had to experience that on NEOPETS, and for everyone else who has been hurt by bullying.

What you can do

Spread the word.
Whether by taking the paragraph from my lookup or petpage, linking this page with a button, or advertising: YOU CAN HELP. All I ask is that IF you decide to take a button and/or put your name on this page as a pledger, I ask that you STICK BY what has been said here. There is really nothing worse than a hypocrite.. please please PLEASE be an example of good behavior to give this page a better reputation. I'm not going to demand that you take down my button if I catch you being cruel, I can't really force you to do that, but I will hang my head and sigh. A very sad sigh. Or, you know, just remind you gently.

Ways to walk away:

• If someone is provoking you, simply IGNORE.
• If you see someone being silly on the boards, they are doing it for the attention, and therefore are not worth the trouble of yelling at. Most of the time, they know the rules. Getting into a scrap will gain nothing.
• If you see someone innocently breaking the rules or asking a 'newbie' question, you have NO right to flame. That is not helping them in any way. Clearly, firmly, but KINDLY tell them of what they are doing wrong, and offer any help you can give.
• If you see anyone flaming, calmly direct them to this page.
• Read THE NEOPIAN TIMES editorial. It is released every week. I recommend that you back track and read past editorials as well as surf sunnyneo.com to find important details. This will familiarize you with the rules of neopia, which enables you to help anyone who doesn't know as well as giving you an idea of how you should behave.
• Blocking is a very nice feature and I use it often if someone is bugging me. I currently have about 50 neopians blocked: this is all from boards I have seen them being extremely rude on, them harassing me, attempts of scams, proven scammers etc. A black list is a great thing to have.
• ALWAYS /ALWAYS/ get BOTH sides of the story. Never jump to conclusions or talk behind the back of someone who is not present on that board unless there is SOLID EVIDENCE that one party is in the wrong. This could lead to some embarrassed apologies later on.
• Admit when you are wrong. Apologise where apologies are due. It is HARD, but you will not believe how much respect you will earn by doing so. Be the first to say "forget it" and move on. Be the first to take action when action is necessary. Be someone who is worthy of being a model of behavior.

Hey just wanted to say that, that is a great page =) It's nice to see that someone genuinely cares enough about how people are treated to write something like that. I am sick and tired of coming to boards where people are being harassed and it disgusts me when the people who are doing the harassing don't even seem to care that what they are saying could really hurt the other person. Though I've never been bullied on neo I've gone through my own experiences of bullying in real life and so I feel for those people who are harassed on neo. I'm a big believer in treat others how you would want to be treated and I wish other people would follow that. I really hope your petpage makes a difference. it must of taken a whole lot of courage to post this on the ac,
as there are so many nasty people on here,
that just are there to criticise & make themselves out to be the 'populars' if you may,
of neopets, what your page highlights is something that's so important,
e-bullying is an awful thing that people deal with everyday & it should NOT be ignored or tolerated, & it's so true that some people take it to heart, not all of them, but some do! you never know which ones are the ones that are more vulnerable, & chances are that if you pick on one they'll take it to heart & get upset, harrassment on neo is just sad & needs to stop!
the people that do it are just judgemental & attention-seeking people that really need to think before they poke fun at people to try & be funny or 'cool'.
if you're going through it, you don't have to tolerate it (: stand up for yourself & don't let it carry on!

I'd just like to say that I totally agree with the authorizing's petpage. I live in Brazil, so I'm usually at the portuguese boards, and there are also many arrogant people. I see all the time people who think they are better than anyone just because has most avys, or is popular and so on. If everyone had thoughts like yours, neopets would be way better =/

You can add me to the list, but could you put somewhere, that I believe bullying is inherently evil but I also think victims have the power to 'develop' the mentality to laugh. Not in your head, but physically because these bullies are wasting they time, they can't get to you. Just will the thinking sort of thing, hard to explain, try it. ;)
