Welcome to the Atheneum!
One of Neopia's greatest resources, The Neopian Times Editorial has been in existence nearly as long as Neopets itself. It is a place where users and TNT interact each week, and the results are always informative and often comical. A treasure trove of information, it is the best place to find answers to almost any question you might have - and if not, a terrific place to ask those questions!
TNT's very first rock!
TNT rocks count: 72 (#317)
Updated through issue #318
(Atheneum lacking updates due to busy life, but this page is an obession so don't worry about it disappearing)
Whether you're searching for information about general account questions, scams, or completely ridiculous nonsensical things, just poke around the different categories below and you'll likely find what you're looking for. Each Q&A is conveniently hyperlinked to the NT Editorial it was featured in. Lists are organized by NT issue number; older at the bottom, newer at the top. This is just a compendium of the most frequently asked questions seen on the neoboards; you'll have to read all the editorials yourself to find the answers to questions about things not many people wonder about. ;)
Duplicates are not omitted, as they illustrate just how often the question gets asked. Outdated Editorial answers are excluded to avoid confusion, though you should remember that all past answers are not set in stone and even some listed here may be old information now or in the future. Silly things that are either obvious or already outlined in the Terms & Conditions and help sections of Neopets are generally not listed. ;) And, since there is no world made of anything jiggly, it's impossible to show you questions people have asked about it.
You'll notice the style of writing changes in the newer issues. Up until the early 200's Donna answered the editorial questions, with Adam filling in for her on the rare occasion. It's quite easy to spot his remarks; his humour is very dry and a touch sarcastic, and he always chose to answer questions that demanded serious answers. In the mid 200's the flavour of the editorial answers changes dramatically. Many people recognize this as snarkie's writing, though it has never been confirmed that she has taken over the editorial. In the most recent issues there is an occasional lack of humour which could be the result of (a) other members of TNT taking turns doing the editorial, or (b) snarkie has eaten so many Red Vines that her body can no longer absorb the caffeine from soda which is so vital to her snarkieness.
If the answer you are searching for is not here, you can use your favorite search engine to look for old NT issues. Trying phrases like 'neopets editorial scam', or 'neopets editorial whack staff' (of course substituting your own subject) will likely find you the correct issue fairly easily.
*Please note that TNT's answers to questions are not always 100% accurate, because they are (or claim to be) only human. Likewise, the creator of this atheneum may have exhibited some pseudo human tendencies while creating this page and therefore may have unintenionally included some outdated or incorrect answers. Also remember that TNT rolls with the times and updates their rules as needed, so any of TNT's answers may no longer be accurate.

We often see quotes like these on the boards: "Be lucky you only got warned! I was suspended for a similar reason. It's not fair."
So, we'd like to clarify. Issuing a suspension is step two in a three step process. Step one is to issue warnings. If you have never been warned before (and the infraction is not serious enough to warrant a freezing straight away), you will likely just get a warning. If you continue to break the rules even though you've been previously warned, we move on to step two and you are suspended, again even if it's a very minor infraction. (Your history has shown that warnings don't work and you need a more serious punishment.) Eventually, should you continually break the rules after being given several chances through warnings and suspensions, you'll be frozen. There's a lot more to this system, of course, but we don't want to give all our secrets away. ;) We just wanted to help clarify why the same infraction serves as a warning to some, a suspension to others, or even a freezing at times. The monitors are not being harsh or unfair, nor do they have a grudge against you personally. They are just going by your past history and warnings you have already received.
Yes, the second round of trick or treat bags were on us yesterday. We ran into a bit of a snafu and had to clear our records, meaning all logs containing information about who had already picked up their bags were cleared. Since we did this on purpose, you have nothing to worry about if you got seconds.
HOWEVER, please note that this is a rarity. ;) Usually a glitch like this is not on purpose, and anyone collecting multiples will be frozen for abusing a glitch. In the future, it's better to be safe than sorry.
Also, we're very sorry for the confusion we caused ;_;
Sooo... there's no great way to say this so we'll start from the beginning. :P
The Support/Monitoring and Content departments had a total communication failure. While we (Content) do site stuff and write the Editorial, they (Support/Monitoring) have the thankless job of enforcing rules and dealing directly with millions of players, and it seems that somewhere along the line one head wasn't aware what the other was doing and... yeah. As such, we unknowingly gave you guys bad information on two rules we clarified here in the Editorial recently - rules we thought were correct but didn't verify. Yes, we know we stink because of it and it's really embarrassing to admit it, but we're happy to shame ourselves if needed to get the proper info out there. So, along with this rambling apology, we'd like to re-clarify some rules mentioned in a couple of Editorials. Here we go:
- "Hell" and "damn" are in fact NOT allowed, despite our big, babbling response in a past Editorial saying it was okay in certain forms. (Acronyms containing the words are also not allowed, just like acronyms containing profanity are not allowed.) While our answer was the rule at one point in time, the words have just been misused too much and the rule had to be changed to disallow them completely. So, regardless of how you use them, "hell" and "damn" are no longer allowed.
- Religious usernames are an outright no-no. Just having a username as such stirs up conversation when other users see it on the Neoboards, so these usernames had to be outlawed (same reason usernames of a political nature were already outlawed, as we mentioned in that same Editorial). This includes all religions no matter how large or small. Users with old, established accounts will be grandfathered in (meaning no worries!). Anything created recently will be looked into and we'll work with players broadsided by this, but anything created from here on out will be frozen.
- This wasn't stated in the Editorial before, but we'd like to clear this up, too. Using the word "sexy" in usernames is not allowed, either. This has been in effect for quite some time, but it's made clear now. Old usernames are again grandfathered in, but usernames of this nature will be frozen if they are created now.
So, that's it. We'd also like to apologise to the Monitors for causing confusion. Despite our attempts to help them out by clearing up the rules every week, we appeared to have made things worse this round. DX Whatever the Editorial has said in the past, they're the ones that need to enforce the rules and it's their call about what is and isn't allowed. We hope this clears things up!
And yes, they've checked other rule clarifications for inaccuracies. ;)
Please do not EVER give out your full name or those of your family members. Depending on the situation, it will merit either a non-warning message, a warning, or in extreme cases where the player will simply not stop giving out personal information, a freezing. Please do not give out information such as the name of your parents, maiden names, or grandparent names that are often used as security questions all over the internet. There is no reason to give this information to strangers, and can only endanger the security of your account.
(A non-warning message has the warning event icon, but the subject will say "Message from The Neopets Team" instead of "Official Warning from The Neopets Team.")
We're glad you though it out on your own before asking us. Most people just try and take the easy way out. :P
Whenever you hit the "you get free stuff" part of your internal monologue when trying to decide if an activity is allowed on side accounts, it's time to stop. :) That alone means it's not allowed. Training (which is okay on side accounts, as you mentioned) doesn't yield any items, so that's why it's okay to raise your Neopets' stats on side accounts. Also, we'll note that the Healing Springs is the only exception to this rule. It will occasionally give away a healing potion, but since it's necessary to keep Neopets healthy and happy, we allow visits to her even on side accounts. This Fishing Hole question gets asked so often to the Editorial that we think we may put a notice at the top that it's not allowed on multiple accounts!
72 hours?!? oO Wow. Yeah, "Joe" is going to have to be on really, REALLY good behavior for the next couple of years at least. Otherwise the next punishment will very likely be a freezing, and we can just about guarantee it if it's something you've already been warned about previously. To answer your question more directly, though, a greater amount of leniency is generally given if an account hasn't had a warning in a very long time (and by very long we're talking well more than a year).
Remember though, each player and case is different, and each warn/suspension/freeze is a judgment call by a staff member. Players that have a history of walking a thin line and constantly pushing the rules are more likely to have the hammer fall a bit harder when they do finally cross the line. You may not see us, but we're watching over you guys. ;)
You know, we actually think we haven't answered this question before! (Or perhaps we have, and forgot; remembering what's been in 300+ Editorials is a bit difficult. x_X;) Congrats to you for a fresh question!
Anyway, going by our own rules, we say that's a no (to collecting interest on sides) since that would be using your side account to generate NP. Best just to keep the bulk of your NP on your main account and collect the interest there (you'll earn more interest, anyway). There's really not much reason to have a lot of NP sitting around on side accounts, either. PIN numbers keep your loot safe, and sticking your side-account Neopets in the Neolodge every 28 days doesn't really cost that much. If you've collected interest in the past, don't fret about it... just please don't do so going forward.
Oh right, nearly forgot about that... heh. We're willing to overlook that, as the 10,000 NP or so that the maps give don't even begin to cover the expense of buying it. We'll just consider it an, erm... rebate rather than income. Don't go running around applying this to other things, though. ;D It's only because we've repeatedly said that lab maps on side accounts are all hunky-dory. Remember everyone, the NP "rebates" from the Lab Ray maps are only a one time each thing (when you turn the pieces in) and can never happen again for that account -- just to clear up any confusion.
We actually get this question a lot. On Neopets you are allowed to have up to 5 accounts. However, you may only use one of those accounts to do most activities (like play games, earn Neopoints, etc). This is called your main account. The (up to) four other accounts that you may have that aren't your main are considered "side" accounts, and are also known as alt (alternative), gallery, guild, or storage accounts amongst players. These accounts can be used to house more Neopets or perform any other function mentioned in the previous sentence, but may not be used to earn Neopoints (as you so astutely mentioned).
No, your username is perfectly fine. There are plenty of usernames with a person's beliefs as part of the name. What isn't allowed is the discussion of those beliefs on Neopets. Religious usernames that aren't tolerated would mostly be things that could be considered solicitous, or those that are attempting to "encourage" others to join their religion or degrade other religions. This is because such a username is basically trying to incite discussion or rile up others rather than express that their religion/belief means a lot to them.
Please note that political usernames are a no-no, though. We've found these do nothing but cause trouble. Neither you nor your Neopets should be named after politicians.
While yes, the intention is to get new people to join, we know that's not always what happens. We're going to have to go for the "reasonable balance" response here. While we don't mind referral links in shops, ULs, or Petpages, actively mailing Neopets players or posting it (or requests for people to use it) on the Neoboards is crossing the line. Also, we'd just like to throw it out there that using your own referral link when creating side accounts is a no-no as well.
Neohomes can be made on any of your accounts as long as the Neopoints funding it come from your main account. (An easy way to transfer Neopoints from your main to your side is via the Trading Post.) If you enter the Neohome Spotlight, please note the name of your main account in your entry so that the trophy/prize will be sent to your main.
Unless it's an attempt to scam, then no, it isn't freezable. You may get a warning though for such a thing (and frozen if you repeat the behavior after being warned for it). Such mean-spirited jokes are not welcome on Neopets.
Yes, the bans are in place for a reason! The only ban we can think of that is okay for you to skirt with a side account is a Neomail ban (but that's only if you are honestly not spamming people and only got a little, erm… enthusiastic with the amount you were Neomailing people). That restriction does not affect game play.
We are also often asked if it's okay to restock on side accounts when your main account is suspended. Please note that a suspension is basically a "time out," and we request that you not do dailies or restock on your side accounts while awaiting the lifting of the suspension.
If your main account has been frozen, you can use one of your side accounts as a new main if you like (and discontinue whatever it was that got you frozen). If the original account is unfrozen, you're welcome to make it your main account again.
No. Aside from Secret Lab maps, you may only turn in map pieces of any sort (including WC) on your main account. There's no good honest reason to turn in others on side accounts because, as you said, you can send the resulting prize to your side account once you redeem it.
We think we've discussed this before. Free training (as well as normal training, of course) is perfectly fine to do on your side account. There is no profit involved. (Just remember to send any needed NP/codestones from your main account to your side.)
Yep! That's a perfect way to handle it! Quite clever to wait to paint it until it's on your side account, really. Just wait until the Pound is back up! Remember, everyone... you can send whatever you like to your sides, just finance it with your main!
Accounts can only be "shared" by family members who are assisting a user while they are playing their account (users who are too young to navigate the site by themselves or users with disabilities are some examples). Accounts are not to be given to anyone else under any circumstance, so we're sure those users just misunderstood. If you no longer wish to keep your account, you can sell the items (or donate them), abandon the Neopets, and either abandon or self-deactivate the account. Please do not give it to anyone else!
Oh. Hrmmm... well, we'll be quite honest with you and say that, as you probably guessed, we totally forgot about situations like that when answering the original question. So we're sorry for opening our big mouths and creating confusion! As you mentioned, the rule is that if the activity earns you Neopoints or items, it's off limits, so that mission is definitely not one you should do on your side account. Thank you for pointing it out!
However, we completely understand you wanting to earn the trophies on your side account, especially after we said it was okay and there's only one mission getting in your way. :) So while we can't promise anything, we'll talk with our Battledome gurus and see if we can work this out.
To be very clear, you currently CANNOT do any missions on your side accounts that involve earning Neopoints in any fashion. If this changes in the future, we'll let you know in New Features! (And we're hoping it can since you were so nice in pointing out our stupid mistake! Thanks, again!)
Yep! That's just fine. You can also train your Neopets with the Lab Ray on all your accounts (up to five, of course) and take advantage of free training on their pet day. :)
Alas, we must say no to this one as well. You can, however, fish with up to all four of your Neopets (on your main account), so hopefully you can fulfill your daily fishing appetite with them.
That's not weird! Science RULES!
Anyway, we're really glad you enjoy the Lunar Temple activity! :D We think it's pretty cool, too, mostly because the math was really hard to code. However, as far as playing it on side accounts, we're gonna have to ask you not to do that. As fun as it is, the activity does give a reward and is therefore on the "don't play this on side accounts" list. Just think of it as something you can look forward to daily. ^_^
Yes, taking the Neopets-given newbie packs is fine as long as you are following the rules and not making more than 5 accounts. And yes, if you self-deactivate one and create another you can have the newbie pack there, too. It's mostly just a little kit to make your new Neopets feel welcomed.
Since Defenders of Neopia only awards a trophy and not Neopoints or items, it's fine to complete it on all your accounts. You can move your weapons between your accounts as you wish, just make sure the funding for it all comes from your main account, of course. :)
And, just as a disclaimer, should DoN ever begin awarding Neopoints or item prizes, completing it on multiple accounts would immediately be against the rules. We don't foresee this happening, but if it did, someone would inevitably reference this editorial answer claiming we said it was fine. -_-
Yep, that's exactly how you should handle it. Random events received in side accounts are all yours!
Since there is no profit to be made, this would be just like using the Lab Ray or training your Neopets on side accounts. It's perfectly acceptable. :)
It's okay, she doesn't need to worry. There is an obvious difference between an occasional mistake and blatant multiple account cheating. :) Should this happen to you, do not collect on your main account that day, and be sure to pay close attention the next time you visit to make sure you're on your main.
Because you can send your Neopets secret word to your email address, many scammers will try to hijack your email account, which is why we encourage you not to reveal this information to anyone. However, even if you never divulge this information, it would be quite easy to figure out your email address if the usernames were the same. And, simply by talking to you for awhile, a scammer may be able to obtain the answers to security questions some email sites use, like what's your favorite pet's name, or where were you born. Then, voila! The scammer has access to your email address and, by extention, your Neopets account (and any other accounts you have associated with that email address). A good way to prevent this is to have an email address that does not contain the same username as your Neopets account, and you should never share personal information with people you do not know. Asking for or giving out email or messenger names is not permitted on Neopets for this very reason (among others).
No, you are not allowed to even access their account at all, let alone playing Neopets for them. This would be considered sharing accounts (even if only for a short period of time) and playing someone else's account for them is cheating. You would both be frozen.
No, even if you never send Neopoints or items between the accounts you still may only have ONE main account.
Don't worry, and just play normally. We are well aware that many people use public computers, and take that into consideration when investigating accounts. We would like to stress, however, that you please, please, PLEASE remember to log off your account when you are done if you are ever using a public computer. If you don't, the next person to visit Neopets may end up in your account!
No, no, that's just fine! You may have up to 5 Neopets accounts connected to one email address. Your main account is the one where you can restock, play games, do dailies, participate in plots, and everything else Neopets has to offer. You can then have up to four side accounts which can be used for guilds, chatting, taking care of Neopets, and other activities that you don't profit from. There's no need to worry about having 2-5 side accounts unless you are abusing them by playing games, doing dailies, plots, or restocking on them. If you need Neopoints in side accounts to take care of your Neopets or get Secret Laboratory access, then you can transfer the needed NP or items from your main account.
In short, no worries, mate!
Uh, no. This doesn't quite go along with the spirit we intended when we said you could change main accounts. While there is no definite number of times you can switch, we imagine it would be more like a one or two time thing. Basically, you may switch accounts if you feel serious about leaving an old account behind and starting anew or moving to one with a new name. This shouldn't be something done lightly, and please do your best to stay committed to your new main account. Randomly swapping back and forth all willy-nilly-like is basically using multiple accounts to play Neopets, which is not allowed. (Just because it's not every day doesn't mean it's okay.) We do realise that you may find a username you like better down the line and want to switch to that one, for example, so we're trying to accommodate by allowing you to switch. But make a decision. Pick one account and stick with it, eh?
Good question for a number of reasons! It usually depends on what you did that got you frozen in the first place.
Most people are welcome to return if they can behave, especially if it was for something minor like spamming or multiple accounts. We understand people make mistakes, so we have no problem with users returning if they're willing to follow the rules. For more serious offences, such as repeated scamming or cheating/botting, there is little tolerance for those who return. Though we wish we could completely forgive them for their past mistakes, there are far too many people who simply come back again and again, repeating their same poor behavior, and it's our job to do our best to make sure they don't ruin the fun of others.
We often get asked why someone with 2 or 3 accounts has them all frozen when only one account broke the rules, and why, if they return on a new account, they're frozen immediately without warning. The answer is that just because the account is "clean" doesn't mean your track record is. If you've been repeatedly warned and frozen, it's clear to us that you don't intend to play by the rules on any account. Your side or new accounts may be frozen straight away, or they may be frozen for the first infraction (instead of receiving a warning) because we know you've already received warnings of this nature before. Basically, if you make a mistake, you're welcome to try again and we won't hold it against you, but you'll only get so many chances. If you've been repeatedly warned and frozen on other accounts, the excuse that you've never been warned on your new account won't fly. You've had plenty of chances in the past.
Don't worry, we understand that families often play Neopets together! :) We have quite a few ways to determine the difference between families and cheaters. Things you can do to help is making sure you and your brother have different email addresses, secret words, names, etc. Otherwise, just play as you normally do you'll have no problems.
PS: To all those multiple-account cheaters out there, we have other ways of tracking, so don't try to use this information to be clever and try to hide. ;) *cackles*
Mates are not allowed, so you're right to be cautious. :) Simply mentioning that your boyfriend has an account or that your Neopet and another Neopet are close is fine. However, RPing romantic involvement with any person/Neopet/animal on Neopets will result in a warning or freezing. You shouldn't go around asking for a boyfriend or girlfriend for your Neopet.
As for the Lab Ray, as long as you earn the Neopoints for it on your main account, then send the pieces to your side account, it's perfectly fine to have Lab Rays on all your accounts. :)
Faerie quests are fine, too, as long as they are random event faerie quests, not ones you request like the Snow Faerie or Illusen/Jhudora quests. If you need to purchase something to complete the quest, buy it on your main and send it over, or just send the Neopoints over to buy the item there. :)
Please play the Tombola on your main account, and send any items you won to your side account if you wish to develop that account as well. Though if you want the profit from the item, please sell it in your main shop, then send those Neopoints to your side account via the Auctions or Trading Post. Your side account should only receive items or Neopoints directly from your main account or via Random Events you happened to get while logged in to that account. Thanks. :)
Yup. If for whatever reason you would like to make a different account (that YOU created) your main account, you are free to transfer everything over. Of course, please do not abuse this by changing main accounts say, after you finished the Altador Plot with one account, making another account your "main", finishing the plot there, then "changing your mind" and making the original account your main again. Yeah, we don't like that. Please use this allowance in the spirit it was intended. *nod*
Yep, yep. Go right ahead. Random event items are all yours. (Sorry. We know we answer this a lot, but obviously the word isn't spreading too fast. Hehe.)
We are well aware that you can play Neopets with multiple browsers at the same time. As long as you are not breaking any site rules or attempting to use it as an advantage over other players or to try and trick them, it's just fine.
No, this is one of those very few exceptions to the rule. :) You can have as many Neopets as you like on your side accounts... as long as you can take good care of them!
On Neopets, you can have one "main" account. This is the account where you do your dailies, earn Neopoints, and most likely spend the majority of your time. You can also have up to 4 side accounts where activities are more limited. You may not earn Neopoints or play dailies or games on these accounts, and don't even think about entering Mystery Pic or Lenny Conundrum with them as well. ;) They CAN be used to adopt more Neopets, be made into additional galleries, store items, or join different guilds with. However, they must all be funded through your main account, as you may not earn NP on them. Hope that clears things up. :)
No, you are free to visit the Soup Faerie and Healing Springs faerie on your side accounts, to keep your Neopets there healthy and happy. This also includes the Neolodge.
Those people are correct. So is the message on the preferences page where you change your lookup code. You cannot cover your stats, and simply retyping them yourself is not acceptable, either. All your REAL stats must be visible on your lookup. We have noticed these lookups with stats removed are becoming increasingly popular, but they are not allowed.
You need to "pick up" your prizes from the toolbar; it's not something that is automatically given to you like in a Random Event. While, yes, you may feel free to use the toolbar on multiple browsers, please refrain from collecting prizes with any account but your main (much like the Advent Calendar). As for side accounts, here are some things you can and can't do:
The same way. :) All Neopoints for the upkeep on alternate accounts (feeding your Neopets, upgrading galleries, etc.) must come from your main account. The easiest and best way to transfer Neopoints is through the Trading Post using an omelette or some other "junk" item. If we had some sort of wire transfer system, that would work, too, but we don't so it doesn't.
Hehe, sure would. Mail from theneopetsteam always goes through. ;)
They do. The warning you received was intentional. "Anti-chain" letters are NOT helpful. They're just as spammy as regular chain letters and are often copied and pasted and spread around anyway because the person posting it didn't read the whole thing first. So now, instead of helping, you've added to the spam. If you want to get the message out, the text "Chain letters do NOT work!" will suffice. ;)
Good eye. :) Don't worry. Both those sites are owned by us because we know spelling mistakes do happen. However, you did the right thing. If you are ever prompted to log into Neopets, make sure the URL is www.neopets.com specifically. If not, do NOT log in. Change the URL immediately. There are indeed sites out there made to look like Neopets to try and trick you into giving out your login information, so it's better to be cautious.
Thank you for being alert, and for keeping such a close eye on your son! :)
Yes, you may accept the newbie pack on your alternate accounts. It's basically our welcome package to welcome home your new Neopet. Please do not confuse this with other monthly, weekly, or daily freebies – those are for your main account only.
Well, in regards to what you said, your exact wording wasn't "my computer is stupid." You used another word that is NOT appropriate and therefore can't be mentioned here, but suffice to say the warning was warranted, even if you don't feel that is the case. The reason all your posts were deleted is because any time anyone gets a warning, ALL their messages are deleted. This includes chat posts, guild posts, and even notice board ads. Also, all warnings and freezings are dealt out by human beings, not a computer. Your message was seen by a human, who decided it was not appropriate, and took the correct action in warning you not to use that word again.
You can change your gender under Help -/ User Prefs -/ My Profile (or by clicking here) if you are 13 or older or have parental permission. Deactivating your account doesn't delete it, however. It's frozen and is not available to recreate.
Nope! Not at all! You're doing everything just right. :)
Nope! There is no limit to how many items you can store in your safety deposit box! If you are just dying to own 12,000 pieces of dung, your SDB can hold it!
No, people are not frozen for logging on to different computers. We're not sure where this rumour started, but judging from notes on many user lookups, it now seems widely spread. We can't go into detail about how we track accounts (since that would only aid scammers in trying to find ways to sneak past our most watched areas), but we can assure you we only freeze your account for being logged in elsewhere if we have solid evidence the account is being shared, has been scammed, or there is some wrong-doing involved. Simply logging on to the site in more than one location will not get you frozen.
This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:
Our automated system does not know why you were frozen. Please contact us by clicking here if you'd like more information."
What does this mean? Was it frozen for no reason? ~anonymous
Every account is frozen for a reason. :) However, long ago, there was no system in place to tell a user the exact reason for a freeze, and the user had to write in via email to inquire. We thought that was quite silly, and created the system you see now. Accounts frozen before this were frozen for a reason, of course, but because it was before the system was created, the system itself doesn't know what that reason is.

If an account has been inactive for a while, when you log in it will request that you provide additional information to prove you are the true owner. This is to stop people who try to steal older accounts by guessing the secret word.
Yes, this would be against the rules since you may ONLY claim freebies/visit dailies on your main account. Please visit the Snowager on your main account, and send the items won from it to your side account to place in your gallery. That is perfectly acceptable. :)
No, as with all site-wide events, the Altador Cup can only be played on your main account.
That depends on the offence. Accounts are usually suspended for 24 hours for the first suspension infraction. For each additional suspension, 24 hours are added to the duration. This means that if you are suspended a second time, that suspension will last 48 hours. Be aware that second or third suspensions rarely occur, since the first suspension is considered your last and FINAL warning. Reaching that stage means you have committed several offences and would normally be frozen, but you have been given another chance to redeem yourself and your account remains intact. Don't waste the opportunity.
We should also remind everyone that your account can be frozen with no previous warnings or suspensions. Each warning or suspension you receive is a way for us to give you notice that you're not obeying the rules. Should you do something bad enough, like scamming, you will not be given the luxury of such a notice and you will be frozen straight away. Claiming you never received a warning or suspension prior to your freezing will not work since there is NO excuse for behavior of this nature.
Yes and yes! This is fine... as long as it is used in a responsible manner. You are allowed to send Neopoints to your alternate accounts, of course, since you will need to take care of your Neopets on that account. If using two browsers makes this easier, have at it! But many people use this trick to gain an unfair advantage over other players, to participate in multiple account restocking, to scam while pretending to be two different people, and a host of other shady dealings. Of course, in cases like these, it is absolutely NOT allowed. Just keep in mind that one account is your main, and the other is your alt, and all rules still apply even if you are playing both accounts at the same time.
A year is quite a long time. After that amount of time, we may not be able to return the account to you depending on the information still available. If you want to leave for that long, we suggest entering a very complex secret word, writing it down on a piece of paper, placing said paper someplace you'll remember in a year, and allowing the account to wait for your return. It's also a good idea to make sure the email address is one that you're sure you'll have when you come back, and one that doesn't expire after 2 or 3 months. If you plan to be gone for something like 3 years, we suggest attempting to log on every 6 months or so. That way the account isn't thought to be abandoned (and possibly purged during one of our very rare unused account wipes).
~frostbite327 Due to COPPA regulations, we cannot retain the email address of anyone under the age of 13. Please tell your friend to email support staff in order to have his pin reset. Also, as a note to everyone, please write down your Neopets PIN number somewhere and keep it in a safe, secret location to reduce the number of related emails sent to our support staff. Remember, the less overall emails we receive, the better service we can offer you all. Thank you!
No. If your main account is suspended, you may not play games, restock, etc. on your side account. We suggest, instead, that you use your spare time to reread the terms and conditions, as well as the T&C FAQ.
No. Your Neopets will remain perfectly happy in the Neolodge, and you certainly may not do freebies for anyone else that is old enough to navigate the site themselves. This is sharing accounts, too, since someone else has your secret word and is using your account. That is also not allowed (for reasons described in a recent editorial).
Since you can't gain any items or Neopoints from feeding Kadoaties on your side accounts, this is fine. You can feed 'til the Kaus come home!
If you play on your own without your parents' help (we're too lazy to look up your age!), then your accounts should have separate email addresses. If one of you is frozen for doing something inappropriate enough to warrant all your accounts being frozen (such as scamming), then your accounts would be linked by email and would be frozen as well. :( Please ask your parents if they can set up an email account just for you. There are many free email sites, and it just takes minutes to sign up.
Parents who monitor their young children while playing Neopets may set a shared email address, since they are the ones taking responsibility for what happens in those accounts.
We think we've answered stuff like this before in the editorial, but maybe not everyone saw it. So here it is, yet again: You may not share accounts!
Erm, no. :) You can only have one main account from which you earn Neopoints or collect freebies, including free training and stats. Yes, you can switch main accounts if you like, but switching back and forth daily is going a bit overboard. Pick one account to use and stick with it. If you need Neopoints on your alternate account to train your Neopets at the various training schools, you're more than welcome to transfer them there from your main (using the trading post, for example). But if you're trying to get free training from Coltzan for a Neopet on your alternate account, that is not allowed.
If you've been frozen and are met with the "Possibly Scammed" freeze reason when you try to log in, this means that someone else was in your account. When this happens, the only way for the monitors to protect the account is to freeze it. If they don't, the scammer would still have access to the account and would continue transferring items, Neopoints, and even Neopets to other accounts. By freezing it, the monitor is attempting to save the account and whatever is left in it so that the real owner doesn't lose everything to the scammer. If you were frozen for this reason, you'll see a link at the end of the message directing you to a form to fill out. This is so that you, the original owner of the account, can write in to our Support staff, prove the account is yours, and get it back! (Shifty scammers sometimes write in claiming to be the original owner, as well, so that is why you need to provide lots of information when you write in.)
So yes, you were frozen, but it's merely for the protection of your account! :) Please use that link and follow the directions to get your account returned to you.
Yes, you may feed your Neopets at the Soup Kitchen in all your accounts, as there is no way to profit from it, and it does not give you an unfair advantage over other players. You may NOT play Underwater Fishing in your alts, as it is considered a game/daily, and you receive something from it.
Just think of it this way: before you do anything in your alternate accounts, just ask yourself, "Will I receive any Neopoints/items from this activity?" If the answer is yes, then don't play. Activities such as the Soup Kitchen, and the Roo Island Merry Go Round are fine to play in alts, because no matter what, you will not receive anything from it (except maybe happier Neopets). The ONLY exception to this is the Healing Springs. We wouldn't want your pets to suffer if you couldn't afford their medication.
Don't worry; we ourselves have all done that before. If you've made a mistake and have accidentally done a daily or played a couple games in an alt account thinking it was your main, no need to freak out. Just don't do that particular daily or play those games in your main on that day. We know accidents like that can happen. Just don't turn an occasional mistake into a habit of "accidentally" playing in your alts. That's when you'll be frozen.
The account would be frozen because you are NOT allowed to access an account you did not create. Even if your best friend in the whole wide world didn't want their account anymore, their only option is to either abandon it or self freeze it. You may NOT give/trade/sell your account to anyone else. If you do, that account will be frozen.
As for the shops thing, we understand people had shops on accounts before the rule went into effect. As long as the shop is empty and you're not using it to sell items, you're fine. :)
We understand you find our attempts to protect your account annoying, but it's there for a reason! Even if you may be an honest Neopian, please realise that there are many others out there who are not, and will take advantage of those who have simplistic secret words. Changing your secret word is a very simple way to help protect your account (and get rid of that annoying message)!
Nope! Just make sure your new account is easily identified as yours so we don't think someone stole everything from your old account. :)
The stock market is considered a game. Since you are only allowed a limited number of shares each day, it's very important that you don't play the stock market in multiple accounts to try and circumvent this limit. This would unbalance things, and would be considered cheating just like playing any other game on your alternate account would be.
It is perfectly fine to have access to the Secret Laboratory Ray on all your accounts, just as it's okay to have a Neohome or Stamp Collection on your alternate accounts. :) Just be sure you earn the NP to pay for these things with your main account!
Good grief, no. Playing games is not allowed on alternate accounts, and Neoquest is most certainly a game.
Umm, no. You're restock banned for a reason. Using another account to bypass that ban is cheating. You'll have to wait until it's over before you can restock again.
Nope. :) Anything won from a random event is yours to keep, and since you obviously can't have a shop on your alternate account, it's perfectly alright to send it to your main to sell it if you wish. (Or read it to a pet or whatever you wish.) This is quite different from doing dailies and getting freebies on alternate accounts, which isn't allowed.
Whoa whoa. Yeah, stop now. PUT THE MOUSE DOWN!
You CANNOT log into another user's account to play Neopets for them, and getting someone their dailies (including Advent) is indeed playing the site. It's not the multiple account thing you have to worry about... you're all cheating and that's definitely not allowed. They're cheating by asking you to play for them and giving you their account information, and you're cheating by playing the site for someone else. Tell your friends to stop being slackers and get their own freebies, and for Fyora's sake, stay out of their accounts so you don't get frozen.
Nope! Your and your accounts are fine as long as you do one of the following:
Option A – Make the old one an alternate account. In this case, both accounts should have the same email address so concerned staff members won't be worried that you've been scammed, and will recognise that you are simply changing main accounts. :) Once you're done, you can keep the alt as long as you don't use it to earn Neopoints, so close down your shop there, if you have one.
Option B – Self freeze the old account if you really won't use it at all any more so it's very apparent that it's no longer in use.
Option C - Sprinkle faerie dust on your computer, spin in a circle 8 times, and yell "FLARB!"*
*Results not guaranteed.
Yes, ma'am. That no longer applies. 5 is the absolute limit for accounts. If you deactivate your extras and just keep five, you'll be fine. You'll also need to designate one as your main and close down all your shops on the other 4 accounts you keep.
This is there for your own protection. You shouldnt make your secret word an obvious word, try using numbers and letters and NEVER EVER EVER tell it to anyone. I am sorry you had to re-type your Neomail, but this is not something we will be changing.
Do not share accounts. The vast majority of people who try to get people to share accounts only do it so they can steal their pets, items or NP. That is why we will freeze people who are asking for people to share an account.
As long as you personally are not doing anything wrong on the computer, then no your account will not be frozen. We understand that many players use computers in public places, so we take a lot more into account than just where a person logs on from before freezing accounts.
Unfortunately the vast majority of shop contests are scams. If any user wins a prize it is normally one of the shop owners other accounts. Because there is no real way for us to monitor if a contest is legitimate or not, we have decided to ban all contests. This is to protect innocent players that could be tricked into purchasing over-priced items. Apologies if you are a shop owner that ran a honest contest, but you should understand why we are doing this.
Only in Adam's dreams.
I wish :(
Yes, I love it. It is especially good wrapped in proscuttio (cold italian meat). I had cold asparagus soup once too, with cream, that was awesome. I didn't like it when I was a kid, but then again I didn't like tomatoes, onions or mushrooms either, and I told my mum that I would never, ever like them. She is the one laughing at me now!
She can cook actually, she does a very nice baked asparagus with parmesan and vinaigrette, a recipe we actually got from one of the Neopets players :)
All I can say is that it could involve 1,300 bottles of sand. Don't take my word for it though. I got it at around 1,560 personally but I have heard that the limit required can vary from account to account.
Well, after a certain fan gave Adam an asparagus cook book it has been asparagus baked in the oven and then sprinkled with balsamic vinegar and parmesan cheese!
Hahaha.. Did Adam set you up to do that?
Haha.. if we could find a way to make Asparagus taste minty yes :)
Ha ha.. Adam has no idea how to cook asparagus... The best way is to steam it or to grill it, although you can cook it other ways.
Green without a doubt.
Eww Gross... and I thought Brussel Sprout flavoured jelly beans were a sick idea :)
I highly doubt it (unless Adam draws it)
A really cool hair cut!
It depends on the indivdual. I would estimate Adam can eat about 2lbs of the stuff before he can't eat anymore!
I am not, but Adam is - it's really weird!
Its really easy, just chop off the very ends of the Asparagus (the bit that looks sort of wood-like), pop them in a saucepan and boil then for about 5 minutes. You can also steam or grill them. Mmmmmm Asparagus!
Because it just tastes so good! Seriously, tonight just ask your mum to cook some for you, you will be suprised! Boiled or steamed is best, maybe with a bit of mashed potato and gravy. Mmmmmmm!
Two or more people cannot combine collateral. This is considered pooling and is against the rules.
Oh goodness, first rock throwing, now pets saying hi. Will it never end?!? /sob We're fairly sure what site you are talking about, and it's fine. It's just indexing your avatars. With sites in general even if it had links to get clickable avatars that's fine too. The line is crossed when someone decides "Hey, wouldn't it be great if we could just click ONE button and have all the clickable avatars added to an account?" NO. Don't go there. Just click the button and earn it; it's not hard, people.
Earning certain kinds of avatars on side accounts is fine, like clickables or ones where you need a certain type of Neopet or Petpet, etc. Avatars that require you to play games or do dailies that can grant you either NP or an item is off limits on side accounts, though. You may not use side accounts as mains during suspension periods.
Lending items isn't currently against the rules. Item/NP pools for avatars or paying for a lend are, though. As long as those aren't going on it's okay. While, of course, we'd prefer that people earn their own way, we can't really look down upon those who are kind enough to share the wealth. We salute those who continue to show empathy by lending items despite knowing full well that there are a horrid number of dishonest folk who will take advantage of others' kindness and steal. Those are the players we truly frown upon. (Seriously, stealing from someone who's offering you their trust and generally being kind to others? How low can you possibly go? Certainly nothing on Neopets is worth the loss of personal integrity... it just boggles our minds how anyone could do such a thing.) Anyway, if you've lent and been vicitmised by a dishonest player, please report him or her immediately with a clear description of what happened so that all their accounts can be frozen.
No one has it yet, but if someone does find it, while they are perfectly allowed to keep the secret to themselves or only tell who they like the secret, they may under NO circumstances request someone to "donate" or pay them for the secret. That's one quick way to the freezer.
Nope! The Advent Calendar gives out free gifts and Neopoints, and it is not allowed to collect such things on a side account. This is true regardless of whether or not there is an avatar involved and regardless of whether or not you discard them after you pick them up.
Hi, talkitive_567's mom!
Oh man. You remember those days? Erm, we apologise for those faeries. Really. We didn't mean to scar people for life.
Anyway, don't worry. Punchbag Sid isn't retired. He just doesn't come out to play all that often. He didn't before the avatar, and he's not going to change now. ;) You'll just have to keep an eye out for him. We wish you luck on beating him senseless.
Hehe, nope. Just bad luck, we guess!
Nope, sorry! Only theneopetsteam (and some official accounts used for notification) can use that avatar. Anyone who sends you a Neomail and claims to be The Neopets Team or a representative and does not have that avatar is lying and should be reported.
The Slorgclops is a completely different Petpet from the two that form it, so sadly, no; you will not get either avatar from it. :(
Alas, there is no secret to getting the Symol Hole to award you prizes. It's just plain luck. Some people may get it on their first visit, while others can visit hundreds of times and not get anything. Don't give up! Your persistence will eventually pay off.
Generally, they're linking you to either a Petpage with links to "clickable" avatars, or directly to a place like a Neopet lookup that will give you the avatar just for visiting (assuming you don't have it already). Remember, though, these other players are kindly pointing out where you can get them, NOT awarding you themselves. Anyone who claims to do that is a scammer and should be reported.
Yes, this is just fine, again because you aren't making a profit. Avatars that require you to visit dailies or play games are not allowed to be obtained on side accounts since you are then making a profit while you do so. Sending a Faerie Queen Doll to your alt to get an avatar is just fine, as long as you don't then use that Doll to make a profit on that account. You'll have to send it back to your main if you want to sell it or trade it.
Before you do anything, just ask yourself, "Will I be making a profit?" If the answer is yes, then it's not allowed.
More often than not, item pools are scams. Everyone sends their contribution to one person, and that person ends up running off with all the items or NP. While you may trust your friends enough to pool with them, it is such a common scam that we've had to completely disallow it. Please remember this if anyone asks you to pool with them. You may be scammed, or be frozen for attempting to participate in one.
Avatars are only awarded after you've successfully sent the correct score for the game. So, if you're trying for an avatar, it's best not to send your score until you're positive that score will get you the avatar.
If you take a look on the calendar page, you'll see Gadgadsbogen actually doesn't have a specific date it is celebrated on. It's a month-long event! Since Y3, when Gadgadsbogen was officially celebrated, it has fallen anywhere between the 4th and 12th of the Month of Running, but it could really happen at any point during that month. Really, it's quite hard to tell exactly when new fruits will grow! The avatar, however, will always be made available on the 4th of the Month of Running since that's the day it was initially released. All you wonderful helpful people with avatar guides, please feel free to update your info accordingly. :D
Anonymous! Curses.
Our Neopian Times editor saaaaaaaaaaaays... YES! *hurray!* Each part credits you with a trophy, which is one step closer to the avatar. :D
Not true in the least. :) You're welcome to give codes to people and help them out. However, just like anything else, you CANNOT charge for this service. Asking for items, NP, "tips," or anything else in return for these codes is not allowed and you will be frozen for it. But if you're doing it to be nice, you don't need anything in return but some thanks, right? ;)
You can enter you comic to the NT here, and yes, getting your comic into the NT has the same rewards as getting an article in. Your account will be credited a trophy, and it will go towards the total needed for the NT star avy :)
We will look into a reset feature, however the avatar is not random. Not random at all. From what we've seen, not one person has actually figured out the real trick to getting the avatar. It may seem random, but it's not by any means. I think it's the only one we've ever really stumped people with. *cackle*
When someone offers to "help" you get a game avatar, the majority of the time they are simply scammers who are trying to trick you into giving them your secret word. Never EVER give anyone your secret word for any reason. They will definitely be frozen if they ask for access to your account.
Aside from this, having someone else play games for you (to get avatars or otherwise) means that you are not earning these things on your own. Someone else is doing all the work for you. This is cheating and is not acceptable.
Yes, you can still earn the avatar in Zen mode :)
Some avatars require you to do different things in order to have them. If you really want the avatar that badly you will keep your shopkeeper as the gothic Usul. It is easy to change back to it if you change your mind and there is no limit to the amount of times you can change to and from the avatar.
I am afraid not, no.
It has been released, but nobody has managed to get it yet. You need to win the grand prize of 1,000 NP on the Wheel of Mediocrity in order to get the avatar. We tested it and it does work, it is just extremely rare!
It really depends on how you unlock the avatar. Most times the avatar does not go live until the whole site is updated, but there are a few rare exceptions.
The Brightvale Flag is the golden star, but it is a very rare icon to land on.
It was only for the 400th contest. It will however be given out for the winners of the 500th, 600th, 700th etc.. so there are more chances to get hold of it coming up.
The rules for creating multiple accounts are stated clearly in our terms and conditions. I believe you are allowed other accounts if you want more pets or a gallery. You cannot play the once a day freebies and I really do not see the advantage of creating multiple accounts to get avatars. Those avatars would be on your other accounts, not you main one.
Yes, you would indeed still have the royal Zafara clothes. Any clothes you acquire for your Neopet through paint brushes, the Lab Ray, etc. will remain in your closet, ready to be worn should you ever again own the appropriate species of Neopet. Also, these clothes can be worn by ANY of your Neopets as long as they are of a species that can wear the item. Your new Uni might not be eligible for Royal Zafara clothes, but if you had another Zafara, they would be.
Even though it's already drawn, it still has to be re-exported and uploaded for every species. If we throw Baby, Mutant, Maraquan, and Fruit Chias into the mix, that means much, much, much more work for the artists, so they currently are not part of the rotation for all-species wearables. We are planning on some special items just for these colours, though, since we don't want to leave them out.
And just to explain, these colours were definitely a trade-off. The two options were to make them conform to the poses of the regular Neopets so they could wear everything, or allow for different poses so that they'd be special to their owners but have fewer things to wear. We went with the latter.
It's... sort of a screen shot. :) We have a pretty hefty back-end system that uses a bunch of codes to determine what colour/species your Neopet is and what it's wearing. When you submit to the Customisation Spotlight, those codes are stored so that we know what that Neopet was wearing at the time it entered. If you change your Neopet's outfit after you submit, it won't affect the spotlight at all or dampen your chances of winning. Those voting will see what your Neopet was wearing at the time of entry and have no idea that you changed outfits.
Of the approximately 1,700 clothing items on the Neopets site, only roughly 300 are not wearable as they were created long before we dared to even dream about making customisation possible. It might not seem like a huge amount but multiply drawing those items 54 times for each Neopet and you get the whopping sum of 16,200 different images. To compare, roughly 37,500 items have been drawn in total over the entire lifetime of the site. We're doing the best we can to add more wearable items as quickly as possible, as well as making the occasional old item wearable, but please understand what a huge task it is for our artists.
This was asked quite a few times! Robot casing is a clothing item that your Neopet is wearing, so when they change colour at the Lab Ray, it's hard to see because the casing is still being worn, covering your Neopet up. If you go to the Customisation Application, you can click to view the "applied" items and remove the casing, revealing the beautiful rainbow Uni underneath!
If you're sure all the clothing has been removed from the Neopet but the sidebar image is still showing an old version, this likely means the image just wasn't saved out correctly. Head over to the Customisation Application again, but this time re-save your Neopet. This will force the application to write out the image again, hopefully properly this time. :)
The Neopet would be zapped and would indeed change, but the item would not show up on the new Neopet. Rather, in would end up in your closet with all the other wearable items.
Your, sentence structure, looks fine, to us. Let's see... it seems 3 people have purchased the Down With NC Flag! We salute you flag buyers, and are sad you don't support the NC Mall. :(
(Seriously, though, we'd never thought anyone in their right mind would actually buy the item, so those of you who took one for the team to play along with the joke are made of awesome. We need an "I spend money for the sake of comedy" trophy.)
