What's a guild?
A guild is a place where Neopians of similar interests can chat and make new friends. Being part of a guild is truly an awarding experience, since you can become close to your fellow guild members and leader. Now, there are many different types of guilds-

Neo-related- The neo-related guilds (often referred to as NR) follow the neopets theme, such as the actual pets, events, or ideas. In most cases, these types of guilds are active the longest and created the most.

Celebrity- Lately, celeb guilds have been popular around the guild world. Whether the guild be based on a famous actor/actress, athlete, or model, these guilds are usually very creative and are great guilds to join.

Scribble / Graphics- Scribble guilds are created especially for all those neopians who love art, drawing, and not afraid of being creative! These guilds usually last quite long and can surprisingly be some of the largest guilds- and the most fun!

Harry Potter- Pretty much, these guilds are for Harry Potter fans. Yes, there are a TON of Harry Potter guilds out there, but each is unique and creative in its own fun way!

Avatar Guilds- Usually, these guilds are private and have a list of requirements you must achieve before joining. Such as, you must have certain experience in gaming, neopoints, and overall neo. However, these types of guilds are often very active, fun, and full of members!

Roleplay- If you're one of those people who love acting or simply telling a story, these guilds are for you! Roleplay guilds are based on a certain theme, and you play a character with a unique personality and traits. As the story goes on, you try to become that character and act along with everyone else!

Blocks- There are different types of block guilds for people with varying interests. The most commonly made are Avatar, Collecting, Gaming, and Battledome. Block guilds usually have a high number of members and activeness.

Themeless- If you can't decide what type of a guild you'd like to join, then these themeless guilds might be for you! These guilds can be private or public, and can sometimes be huge guilds!

Choosing a Guild

When choosing a guild, it's not just clicking a button. You must be entirely sure that you want to join the guild! Make sure that this guild is right for you- the member cap, theme, council and leaders, and activeness! Being an active and committed member is an important key in being part of a guild and helping it succeed. After joining, it's your job to chat, participate in guild activities, and have fun!

If you aren't sure where to find the perfect guild, stop by the guild message board. Here, many leaders and members advertise their guilds, so hopefully you can find the right one for you! Also, you can search a few directories. Usually, these directories will list a huge bulk of guilds, separated by category/theme.

If you still aren't happy with your choices, and you need help finding a guild, please neomail me! I will be more than happy to help you find a guild you're looking for!

Running your own Guild

Dedication and Commitment
Running a guild takes much patience, leadership, and dedication. Being very patient and committed to your guild is essential- if you want it to be a success, you'll be spending a lot of time on it. If you know that you won't be spending much time with your guild, then why make it in the first place?
If you're sure about the dedication part, you must start planning out your ideas. Spend as much time possible thinking about your guild layout, activities, theme, etc.

Guild Co-ownie and Council
Your co-ownie(s) and council members play a huge role in the success of your guild. They will help you keep your guild organized, run your events, and plan efficiently. Remember, you don't want just anyone being part of the council- you need people who are reliable, responsible, active, and have basic knowledge on guild making and the world of neo. Before starting your guild, you should ask around for your council crew!

Name & Theme
Some may think, why is the name and theme so important to the success of a guild? Well, the name does actually play a big role. When people search for a guild, they may see one outstanding name, and one dull, un-original one. If the two guilds are in the same category (theme), then of course they'll take a look at the guild with the better name! Choose your guild name wisely, for it is what creates the first impression of the guild. If you need suggestions, take a look at Evaliel's Name Book.

Now- the theme is just as important, or more, than the name. What will your guild be about? What's the point of the guild? Now, there are many types of guilds, all described in A Thousand Word's Intro section. Make sure to choose a popular topic/theme, so that more people may come to your guild. You can pick something you love, something you re interested in, or something you just think the public loves.

The only problem with this is that there will be MANY other guilds with this theme! Ex: there are many Harry Potter guilds out there, so some of the Harry Potter fans will go to the more established, larger, active, and older HP guilds. So, another alternative is to choose something unique (but enticing) that few people have thought of before. This idea may bring more people to your guild, as it may be the only one of that theme.

Layout
When you take a look at a guild, the layout is what stands out the most. Is the layout eye-catching, decent, and well made? Is it a custom made layout that matches the guild's theme?

When starting your own guild, you definitely should get a custom guild layout. Why? It makes your guild homepage more memorable, friendly to the eyes, and creates a good impression. However, custom layouts aren't always necessary- good premades can sometimes do the trick, too. But remember: always credit the site where you got your layout!

Request a layout:
Seraphic
Viridian
Viviland Graphics

Premades:
Nienke's Premades
Hyperlinked
Distressed Premades

Now, when it comes to coding your own layout, I'm no expert. Take a look at these guides/tutorials that are specifically made to teach coding and design:

Activites and Events
When someone decides to join a particular guild, it's probably because of the guild's activites, events, and fun ideas. What makes the guild stand out? How is it different from the other, say, 50 guilds of the same category? Does it have 1 np sales, pet spotlights, or weekly themes?

Now, most guilds (of all categories) have the usual 1np sales, trades, and/or auctions. Most guilds also do have the pet spotlights and adoptions. So these won't stand out from the crowd. When thinking up of some ideas for your guild, be creative and think out of the box. The activites must be something worth participating in, and obviously must be fun!

Guild Directories

Guild directories are helpful sites that lists guilds of all categories, makes recommendations, and helps find the right guild for you!

Running a successful guild directory

Just like running any type of guild or site, guild directories take a lot of patience and time. There are many directories out there that list 10-20 guilds, then just close or go on a hiatus. Obviously, you don't want your site to be like one of those. So, here are a few tips on running a successful directory:

Be patient. (as I've mentioned before. Listing up to 100 guilds may take quite a while, so you must be patient with yourself and not get frustrated at your slow progress.
Find the guilds! Guild leaders won't usually come to you- you have to go to them! Don't be scared of going out there and finding as many guilds as possible to list! (just don't be rude about it, of course :)
Spread the word. Advertising is huge! Post your directory link on the GC board and let everyone know about your directory! This way, more guild members and owners will want to get listed at your directory. Also, you can get your site listed at Soroptimist Directory for more exposure.
Frequent updates and guild listings. If your directory is not frequently updated, then people may think your site is either going on a hiatus, or is just very inactive. You definitely don't want that impression. Also, be sure to have regular link sweeps, so that people won't be looking through a bunch of closed or inactive guilds!
Act professional. Be careful of proper grammar and spelling, word choice, and the actual content and layout of your site.

About the Owner

I'd like to welcome you to my little extras page of A Thousand Words!

About Ree

Well, well...are you sure you want to read about me? If so, I'm extremely honored. I feel so special ^^

My name is Ree (short for Aubree). I am a 13 year old girl from California, and I absolutely love going to the beach, hanging out with my friends, playing with my adorable puppy, Shadow x3, listening to Pendulum 8D, and naturally, playing on neo. Really, who isn't addicted to neo?

As you can see, I desperately enjoy sitemaking and graphic design. Though I only started a few months ago, I've been lured into the sitemaking world, and I'm hopelessly addicted xD

My main account, which I lost a good while ago, used to be my precious treasure, until I took a hiatus from neo. A few years later, I came back and made oco_oco (funny name, huh?). Losing some interest in that account, I started up this one {pendulumx3} which is now my main.

For right now, that's all I have to say. Ciao!

Reviews

Hello guest! Looking for a place to get your guild reviewed? If so, you're in the right place! Here, I offer a few types of guild reviews to choose from.

Rules

Your guild must be 1+ week(s) old, no exceptions.
You can only request one review at a time.
Be patient- the review may take a few days, so don't neomail me multiple times about the status of your review.
Only request when requests are open!
Credit is not necessary, but please do so! (:
Last of all: You must be willing to let me join your guild during the time I am reviewing your guild.

Graphics

The #1 rule: you must link back, either by hyperlinked text that links back to (/~asintia), or by leaving the credit on the image. I will not tolerate anyone who is claiming these images as theirs, or distributing them on their own sites.
And with that quick note, enjoy the graphics! Drag the images up to the url toolbar to see the full size.
