Reviews

I just started a review site not too long ago, and maybe it's too soon to write about this, but I guess I can't hold in my excitement to share what I have to say. Reviews are like investigations. We go to people's sites, and look through their content. We look for requirements that match our criteria, and find the positive and negative things. That's pretty much what many reviewers do, including myself. Each reviewer is entitled to his own opinion. You may not like Judy's layout, but maybe some other people do.I don't like it is one of the least helpful things you can say. It's like sayingI don't like the color yellow Seriously, many reviewers say things like that and don't even bother giving a reason. I've read some reviews from other sites and I am disappointed when reviewers take off points for no reason. Example : sitely - 3/5 You have a good amount of listers and affiliates. okay.. So why are there 2 points taken off for? That is completely absurd. Another thing : being nice. Sometimes, when I take a lot of points off (being the ridiculously harsh grader I am), I find myself feeling guilty and try to compensate to make the total score not so bad. But you know, sometimes when you're too nice, (giving everyone 90 - 100 everytime), no one's gonna want your review. When I want to get reviewed, I try looking for people who tell me my shortcomings that I don't notice. These things help my site improve a whole lot better. So in the end, it's really about how much you can get from the reviews. How helpful, they are, and how much they can change your site. That's what reviews are for aren't they?

Requests become annoying when...

some knuckleheads decide its ok to take my layout codings, use it with their image, edit it drastically, and take off the credits. Seriously? Is it cause you want to impress everyone by "claiming" you made the whole layout all by yourself, cause that just proves you a thief and a liar I mean, if you can't code, use a template or a guide!

Code thieves steal your whole stylesheet and redistribute them. The part that angers me is when confronted, they make up a story about where their code originated from, and act like they didn't do anything wrong. I know my codings. So, don't steal my codes. Use a freakin template from a template site if you want your own layout. Stealing is not cool ~

people take your original ideas and apply them to their site. A sense of originality and uniqueness will be lost :(

People ask too much of you. It makes me mad because they're so greedy and would do whatever it takes to annoy me in messages to get what they want.

You take things for granted. I'm not like back then, doing any request I see. You think I make layouts real fast. No, I don't and I'm not superman. For some layouts, I need time to think and apply their themes on display. That's why some layouts look better than others. There are the extraordinary ones, and the ugh let's get this over with ones. Which one would you prefer?

Premades site request. Like a banner site, why don't you take a template and add your own banner? You're a banner maker. & Layout request sites? o_o go make your own layout. It's embarassing if you have someone else make a layout for someone who does layout requests.

Recently, I noticed there is a trend of a preference of customs over premades. <b>there is absolutely nothing wrong with premades</b>. I am aware that people like their own layout, specifically designed for them, but that's just too much work, which brings me to my next point...

There is no <i>first come first serve basis</i> in perspicacious 28. It's more of a <i>who wants/needs/deserves a custom more</i>. You may <b>apply</b> for a request, but it's up to <b>Chloe</b> to decide whether to do it or not. If you can't get a request here, try <b>Foomanshu</b>::

Some of you guys may have a hard time picking out a site name, (cause I did). So, I was going to open a site dedicated to site names, but I got lazy. Yeah, great excuse. But anyways, I'll have it up as a section under perspicacious 28

The anatomy of a site name

Basically, a site name is consisted of an adjective and/or a noun, depending on whether it's one word, or two. Below are list of nouns and adjectives. For Two-worded names- You pick an adjective, and a noun. (for example :: joyous + blithe = new site name! for a one word name- just choose any word xD

I was amazed with the review, Alex pointed out many little details I missed out on. She is very meticulous when it comes to evaluating your site. All her statements are pretty logical (I think it's cause I applied for the first criteria which was lady logic xD) But yeah, if you want all the help and criticism you need, do it out!!!

need a little inspiration?

These past few months, I've been receiving messages about things like omg Chloe, your petpages are so amazing!!! and my layout looks horrible, etc. etc. I just want to let you all know, none of us started out with awesome skills!. I don't exactly remember when Perspicacious started, but when it did, my graphics weren't as great they are now. (click to see old work) Last year, when I first made graphics and petpages on neo, I relied solely on brushes and gradient fills. None of my graphics turned out decent. It looked bad, and I figured no one was going to use them. That's when I came up with requests. There's no point in making premades when nobody uses them, so if anyone wants anything, they can just request! I had very few requests. However, it makes me feel better if at least someone is using the things I made. Little by little, my graphics skills started improving. Around the start of this year, I received more requests I've actually become so busy, I had to set limits to lessen requests. As long as you keep working, good things will come to you. Sounds cheesy, but it's true! I think the best part of running this site is receiving the lovely letters I get from all of you ^.^ I do enjoy reading them, but stupid me accidentally deleted all of this year's fanmail when switching the main layout =.= here are a few old ones from last year :P

I cringe when I see my old work. But why did I saved it? Cause back then I had aspirations to make prettier graphics in the future, and when that time comes, I can look back at my old examples and go all "ugh I can't believe I did that, but I improved so much! Just compare this to the work in my portfolio.
