Her story begins amongst the dark caverns of a forgotten cove; surrounded with the icy mist of Terror Mountain in the dead of night. All was silent, perhaps except for the soft coo-cooing of a nearby pteri finally settling down to sleep. Snow carpeted the ground in a thick white duvet, it lay over rocks and trees and earth under the moonlit sky. Amongst the snow was a tiny kougra kitten, purple in colour and striped with navy as dark as the sky above. She pawed the snow cautiously with her dainty paws, whilst her mother watched over her with proud eyes.
The kitten took her first few steps into the snow, blind still from birth but able to feel the faint pitter patter of snowflakes as they landed on her soft pelt. She mewed lightly and unfolded her wings. Feathered, they were, and small, like the wings of a baby dove. Her mother smiled in admiration at her daughter's beauty and innocence. Then, as she remembered, she frowned slightly. For one day, in years to come, the older kougra knew that this small, helpless feline in front of her would be Queen. It seemed odd that such a position of power would be given to this delicate creature. Yet, as the kitten turned her closed gaze towards her mother, the older feline recalled that her thoughts and worries were probably ditto that of her own mother, and her mother before that, and her mother before that. One day, the older kougra thought. One day, Annilla will be the most remarkable Queen of the Ice Kingdom there ever was.
The summers came and went like a pendulum of time, swinging between the seasons. Snow thawed, froze and thawed again over the ground of something Valley. The twilight chill was just settling in as Princess Annilla stepped out of the icey cave in which she slept. The kougress stretched, every purple hair on her small body ruffled with her movement. She was young, only a mere six years of age yet she had grown considerably to a height of three foot. White wing-feathers trembled in the slight breeze: Annilla wanted more than anything to stretch them fully in the skies. She glanced above at the flawless black sky, empty except for minute speckles of white light that were stars. She wanted to fly, to know the feeling of the wind rushing through her fur and the midnight clouds soaking her skin. Behind her, her mother stepped out into the moonlight. She was sleek, her fur blue with stripes of pure white, her back free of wings. Sensing Annilla's frustration at wanting to fly, her mother spoke. "Unwise to try, Annilla." A flying kougra was unheard of in something Valley, and physically it was impossible due to the weight of a kougra and the size the wings would have to span out for. Still, Annilla was detirmined and vowed to try. She could not really lose anything if she tried, she would simply not lift off of the ground if it didn't work out. And too, what use was a Princess with wings if she never used them? Swiivel had wings, and what more, could fly.
Annilla had never known her father, and so her mother had had to bring her up alone. Consequently this meant that mother and daughter kougra became close friends, (as daughters often do) so restrictions were often pushed against with no punishment. However, Annilla knew that her mother would punish her severly for trying to fly. It was not that her mother did not want her to or was jealous of Annilla's magnificent wings, it was so that Annilla would not be harmed.

A loyal friend and subject to the Queen, Dash is both intelligent and kind. He spends his time helping Queen Annilla to roam the skies in search of lost explorers over Terror Mountain. He cannot speak himself, but he is a great listener and can fully understand dialogue. If not found with Annilla, Dash is usually occupied studying various future plans for the area of Terror Mountain. Dash is a celebrity among the Ice Kingdom folk, for he is not fully nocturnal, unlike Annilla.
Dash mostly acts as a spy, as Annilla is not around all of the time to catch all Terror Mountain gossip and knowledge. He respects Annilla greatly, for she is very intelligent.
Dash's design is based around a normal Faerie Tasu, except for the stripes of his tail, he has those instead of just spots.

Prince Marethius is the leader of the warriors in all the Neopian Realms. He travels from place to place ensuring that all is at peace, and gathering soldiers for battle. Marethius, although with Royal status, refuses to stay in one place and so gives his Prince duties to his second-in-command Lechlan. Due to his intimidating and respected reputation, Annilla looks to Marethius as a role model for how she should treat her subjects. Occasionally Marethius arrives in the Ice Kingdom, at which time humans flee the area out of fear of this magnificent creature. (He is substantially large and can carry humans on his back if needed.) When Annilla approaches Mar without caution, immediately the people see her as a figure of bravery and nobility.

Swiivel is the Princess of the skies around Faerieland. Her and Annilla are very much alike, except for the fact that Swiivel is not nocturnal and younger. Both are mysterious in their own rights and both love to flaunt their flawless beauty to awed faces. However, Swiivel is a Xweetok, and she resides amongst the clouds. From childhood, Annilla and Swiivel have been close friends, though Annilla cannot visit her as she is too heavy to land amongst the clouds. Swiivel instead occasionally visits bearing gifts from the land in the clouds.
