Past Pets

In my Neo-life I have owned many pets that are now with new owners. I like to look them up every now & then to see how they are doing (if I can remember their names), hoping they are in happy homes. Because I have access to the lab ray & already completed my dreamie collection, I will continue to zap & re-home pets for as long as I want. This list is just for my reference ^_^

Welcome to NeoAID!!!

Welcome, guest! The purpose of creating this page was to help my fellow neopians whether or not they are new to neopets. This was my first petpage created and attached to my first permanent pet. Some of this stuff was written up when I was a newbie to Neopets and the rest has been added since. Originally, this was mainly a dailies page so I used to have the dailies in the main section with a brief paragraph about each, but they are now on the left panel because I expanded this page & added a few more sections. Hope you enjoy what I have to offer and if you like what you see, dont hesitate to link to my page and/or refer other neopets users here (see right panel for mini banners).

Oh and of course, if there is any incorrect information or any broken links or anything else that is wrong with my page, please do let me know so that I could try do something about it. Thanks!

Earning Neopoints

There are many ways to earn neopoints. Whichever you find are the best/easiest/most enjoyable, are up to you. Here are some tips on what to do and what not to do (Links to some of these places can be found on the left panel under "Neopets Links"):

Don't Cheat!: There is no shortcut in earning neopoints. If you do, it will most likely get your account (and possibly all your side accounts too, if you have any) frozen, which will mean you will have to start all over again anyway.
Dailies: (left panel)
Games: Play the ones that you are good at or can earn lots of neopoints in. Add the ones you want to play regularly to your favourites.
Open a Shop: Sell whatever you don't need/want. If you price everything reasonably, there is a higher chance your items will actually be sold and you can make neopoints quicker than if you waited for someone to buy your overpriced items. You can even put your junk in there for about 1np and they will sell.
Bank: At the start, you won't be getting that much interest, but as you earn more neopoints and upgrade your bank account type, you will start getting quite a lot of interest (which you need to collect yourself each day).
Use the Shop wizard(SW): This is helpful if you want people to go to your shop. Just look for the item using this wizard, then price it in your shop just slightly under that SW price. This will bring your shop to the top on the lists, which increases the chance of your item being sold (1np less than SW might be enough, depending on the item. It sure won't hurt to earn 1np less).
Auctions: Sometimes you can get items from the auctions that are cheaper than the shops or trading post. Use the auction genie to find the item you want at the current cheapest prices.
Trading post: You may get some good deals for items that some people are selling/trading for cheap, sometimes even free, depending on how eager the trader is willing to be rid of the item(s). However, be careful of people that don't play fairly and people who just don't follow through with what they ask for in a trade. A lot of people may say a trade is free or is only 1np but it really isn't. They might just want people to offer on their trades (some will let your offer sit for up to two weeks). You get to learn these ID's really quick, and you will learn for the next time not to waste your time on these trades and just to ignore/avoid them. Best thing to do in this case is just to withdraw your offer because most likely your trade won't be accepted anyway.
Neopets Contests: There is a link to them on the side panel of this page that will show you all the neopets contests that are on at the moment. If you win, you may get nice rewards including paint brushes, codestones, bottled faeries, etc.
Half Price Day: This is on the 3rd of every month. Official Neopian shops (i.e. NOT shops belonging to other Neopians) will have their items selling for half the price that they are normally sold for, and you can still haggle a bit.
Stocks: If you are patient enough to wait for the stocks to go up and/or good at predicting the stock market. A worthwhile investment would be if you bought in thousands every day at 15NP a share.
Avoid Scams: The neopoints and other stuff you earn were all your own work. If you fall for a scam, you risk all your hard earned items and neopoints. I had more written about this topic but I have found other people have got existing pages that are better done than I had it. You will find links to them on the right panel under "Account Safety"

Key Quest

This game has system requirements that can only be played more efficiently on computers/laptops with at least 2GB RAM, unfortunately. The lower resolution version is slightly better for slow computers. For the people that can play it, it is a very quick way to get neopoints & nice items! It doesn't even matter what placing you get, because the keys you redeem from this will give you something anyway. Sometimes the non-Gold keys give better items too so if you are not winning, please do not get aggravated and quit the game. It gets other players annoyed because it's wasted time for both you and the other player(s).

Habitarium

This game too is a good NP earner for people with sufficient internet speed. It is basically a game where you breed petpetpets (also known as p3s) & get them to harvest materials to build things, etc. You earn NP by leveling up, and if already on the highest available level, by collecting purple gems that start randomly appearing as your p3s earn experience points (XP). Seeing as I don't play this game, I am not going to be very good at explaining the ins and outs of it very well. You will find good links to guides on this game on the right panel of this page.

~*~Play Habitarium~*~

Burger King Promotion

Here are some codes that you can enter into the burger king page to redeem items for free! You can redeem each code for up to 8 times. If you are not in USA or Canada, you will need to change your account settings to say you are first. You can change back afterwards.
~*~Redeem Code~*~

Codes: A967, F213, H483, K563, L392, M547, M823, N176, S246, S794, T415, T673

It has been confirmed that these codes won't get you frozen if you are entering them into your side accounts to get the items too. This is because these items are no-trade items and you can't make a profit out of them in any way.

Pet Trading

So this is a virtual pet site. Many people are seeking their dream pets. Some prefer to earn NP to get their "dreamies" themselves, others prefer to trade for them, and those seeking UC dreamies are forced to trade for them if they were to achieve their dreamies. There's always adoption as well, but that's not what this section is about. This section is to give a little pointer into what to expect from the pound chat board. I may add to this section, but for now, here are some screenies of what NOT to do (but the current scenario of what you'd expect in general) on that board. Someone had made this thread (and given me permission to put screenies of it here) which sums up pound chat quite well. I don't recommend doing any of these things though, they are actually pet chat peeves of many neopians. Anyway, the thread was labelled "Unwritten rules of PC (Pound Chat)". The first 17 rules are by the original poster, and the rest are other screenies that have been contributed by several other PC'ers.

Note #1: I did get permission to screenie from the original poster but not the others. If one of the posts was by you and you wish for it to be removed, please let me know and I will happily remove it.

Note #2: For those new to pound chat lingo, here's some commonly used abbreviations:
PC = Pound Chat
(V)WN = (Very) Well named
(V)DN = (Very) Decently named
(V)BN = (Very) Badly named
(S)BD = (Semi/Super) Battledome pet
UC = Unconverted (Pets from years ago when they couldn't wear clothing)
DUCK = Draik/Unconverted/Krawk
UF(Q)T = Up for (quick) trade
UF(Q)A = Up for (quick) adoption
RW = Real word
RN = Real name
OTB = Offer to beat

Permission:

Original Poster's "Rules":

Additional "rules":

Hope you enjoyed reading! Remember, the advice is actually to NOT do any of these because it annoys other pet traders. Anyway, for trade values etc, check the right panel under "Pet trading guide" for converted pet trading, or "UC pet trading" for unconverted pet trading guides. Thought I wouldn't need to make my own guide here if there are already some good ones out there ^_^

Tubing Tutorial

This tutorial teaches you how to remove the background from an image and isolate the part of an image to only the part you want, which is usually a character/pet/etc. The process is called "tubing" and it is not a very difficult task but can take some practice and patience to get good at it. I used PSP Version 9 for this tutorial because it is my preferred graphics programme. However, when tubing, Adobe Photoshop is probably a better programme to use because it is more "professional" and it also produces better results and a "cleaner" tube (not so jagged - smoother outlines). If you do a search for Paint Shop Pro, you can get a trial version from the web. If you want to buy the programme, you can go to a store. I think PSP is cheaper than Photoshop, but not too sure.

By following this tutorial, I am assuming that you are familiar with the basic functions of PSP or the equivalent in your chosen graphics programme. However, there are tool options shown in the screenshots for those of you who have yet to orientate yourself.

Disclaimer: This tutorial was written by me (Heavenly_QT) for the purpose of teaching others how to tube. The image used is ©Neopets, the screenies and the written tutorial were done by me. Any resemblance to any other tutorial is totally coincidental.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step One:
Select an image you want to tube and open it in your chosen programme.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Two:
Select the "lasso" tool, and create a rough circle around the image you want to tube. When this is done, there should be "marching ants" around your selection.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Three:
Press CTRL+C to copy your selection, then close your current image, and press CTRL+V to paste your selection into a NEW window

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Four:
Zoom in to your pasted image until it is very large, and go to a place where you want to start tubing. The zooming in is not necessary, but this makes it easier on your hands later when you start the actual tubing because you need bigger movements to do the task, which means that a small nudge/movement won't ruin your work.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Five:
Go back to your "lasso" tool, and start going around part of the outline of the image you want to cut out. When you get to a point where you want to stop (or when your hands get tired), just move your hand away from the image and let go of the mouse. This should create a selection OUTSIDE your image, surrounded by "marching ants". If your marching ants go anywhere ON your image, press CTRL+Z or the "Undo" button to do the selection again until you get it right.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Six:
Once you have the selection right, press "Delete" on your keyboard and the space inside your selection should disappear.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Seven:
Keep repeating steps 5 and 6 around your whole image until you have successfully deleted the background around the character/pet/etc you want.
Then go to Selections/Select None. Now there should be NO "marching ants" on the document now.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Eight:
Zoom back out until you can see the whole of your image again. Using your "lasso" tool, go around your now-empty space around your image. Be careful to avoid going over any of the background you haven't cut out and also not to go over your image at all. When you unclick your mouse, there should be "marching ants" around your image ONLY.

--------------------------------------------------------

Step Nine:
Press CTRL+C to copy your selection and close the window, then press CTRL+V to paste your selection as a new image (new window). You should now be only left with your "tube", which is the term used to call images that have been tubed. The tube should only consist of the character/pet/etc that you wanted to isolate from the background. If not, go back a few steps and see what you have done incorrectly and try again. Once satisfied, save as a PNG file so that your image will remain how it is and you can use it any time you need it. Make sure you don't save as a JPG or JPEG file, otherwise next time you want to use the tube, you will need to cut it out again.

--------------------------------------------------------

Additional Notes:
♥ For beginners, it is advisable that in the steps where I instruct to "close the window and paste your selection into a new window" to NOT close the window, but still paste your selection in a new window (as a new image). This is so that if you do any mistakes, you can backtrack and correct them without having to start all over again.
♥ There are other ways to tube, but I have only shown one. You may choose to use the "eraser" tool to go around the image too, which also works. It all comes down to personal preference, so select whichever method you want. However, with the eraser method for tubing images with sharp edges and small gaps, you will need to change the size of the eraser quite often, which could be troublesome.
♥ Thank you for reading my tutorial. I hope it was of help to at least someone.
