Issuhn

Profile

Name: Issuhn (ISS-un)

Nicknames: Iss (Piper)

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Homeland: Pomaloth

Occupation: Prince

Did you know?

☁ He was chosen as Pomaloth's Prince just after he turned 16
☁ He is often plagued by visions of his prophecy- the words "choose wisely" usually set these visions off
☁ When he's feeling stressed or nervous, he takes out his Coloured Bouncy Ball and repeatedly throws it upwards, catching it on its way down
☁ His parents are not the King and Queen; they're just regular citizens of Pomaloth

In Issuhn's words...

I was in a dark, foggy forest. Two paths lay before me, and I knew that I was supposed to choose one. But which one was the right one?

Purple smok seeped out of the ground, interfering with my vision.

."Choose...choose..." it whispered, swirling around me and clinging to my fur. I began to panic. Which one?

Behind me I heard a crack of lightning and the roar of a fire. Spinning around, I saw a tree engulfed by purple flames. I backed away from it, the heat searing the tips of my fur.

Musavir slithered out of the flames, floating in mid-air. His eyes locked onto mine and I froze, unable to move any farther.

."The choice will be yours and yours alone, Issuhn. Choose wisely, for only one road leads to greatness."

."What does the other lead to?" I asked him, my voice sounding hollow and empty.

."Look..."

I turned, but it was not the paths that met my eyes. Instead it was just an endless field of darkness. But wait, there were shapes there...

I recognized Tebor. He was fighting a shadowy figure. I watched hopelessly as the shadow dealt a devastating blow and Tebor fell into the darkness.

Kain flew past me, glancing over his shoulder with terror in his eyes. Something-a shadow that I couldn't make out-was chasing him. Again I watched as my comrade was caught and engulfed by the darkness.

I saw a young Faerie Xweetok who I didn't recognize. She was half running, half flying towards me. Something seemed to be wrong with one of her wings. Her mouth opened to cry for help, but no sound came out. She too disappeared into shadows.

There was Piper. She was above me, clinging to the edge of something. Her paws scrabbled to get a grip, but the surface was too smooth. She looked directly at me, her eyes filled with purple fire.

."You must choose wisely, Issuhn!" she shrieked, her voice a combination of all of theirs. Her paws slipped. As she fell, the ground opened up beneath me, and I was tumbling down, down, down...

In Maddie's words...

I was bored one day and decided to check out an untaken names site, just for the heck of it. Little did I know that one name would lead me to create another side and bring a very special little boy into existence!

As soon as I saw the name "Issuhn", I couldn't get it out of my head. It sounded so royal and prince-like, the way it rolled off my tongue. Immediately I thought of a UC Royalboy Zafara, a species/color/conversion combo I adored.

Sadly, Royal Zafaras were automatically converted when TNT went through conversion. But converted Royalboy Zafaras were still very prince-like, and I couldn't help thinking of what a story about a Zafara prince named Issuhn would be about.

After my streak of hasty creations (AKA my Baby pets), I decided I would hold out on this little fantasy. I told myself if I was still thinking about it in a few weeks, I would create a new account and adopt my Issuhn. Well, those few weeks passed, and by this time I had a full-fledged story developed! So ekriven and Issuhn were created.

Right off the bat I knew I wanted to create a petpage for Issuhn, like what I had seen from browsing pages listed at the Character Quilt. This page is still in the works, as is Issuhn's story. Currently it's recorded on college-ruled paper and lying in wait in my head. Eventually I'll have it all on a nice petpage, but for now, it remains in my backpack for when I have extra time to write.

I love my little Issuhn to pieces! His youth and inexperience as a Prince make him doubt himself, but I can see what he can't. He's brave, smart, and more fit for the job of Prince than he gives himself credit for. He stands by his friends no matter what and isn't quick to make assumptions about people. His empathy mean he can understand just about anyone.

I'm so glad I decided to create Issuhn. He's an amazing addition to my neofamily and a great Prince, whether he knows it or not!

Tebor

Profile

Name: Tebor (TAY-bore)

Nicknames: Toby (Muku)

Gender: Male

Age: late 30's

Homeland: Pomaloth

Occupation: Admiral of the Airborne Guard

Did you know?

☁ My number in the Pomaloth Guard is 666
☁ I used to dream of working within the castle as a scribe, but alas, my humble upbringing prevented it
☁ I adore Cirruses, and am lucky enough to have earned the loyalty of Ceilio
☁ I was born with the ability to change the color of my fleece to match any kind of weather condition

In my words...

To obtain a Cirrus is a not an easy task. They will not go with just anyone. It's said in legend that each Cirrus is only meant for one person, and they have a way of knowing when they find "the one". I'm not sure if I believe this to be true, but I do know this: a Cirrus is very picky when choosing their owner.

I had always wanted a Cirrus, from the time I was a young Blue Gnorbu. I admired their determination and the fact that it was an honor to be chosen as an owner.

You see, honor has always been important in my life. Coming from a humble upbringing, family honor was all that I had to my name, and I defended it with all that I had. Being elected to the Pomaloth Airborne Guard was another honor I took with pride, and ascending to the position of Admiral only added to that. I have brought the highest honor to my family, an achievement that I am quite proud of.

So now you understand how significant obtaining a Cirrus was for me. I had been searching for a long time, scouring the clouds every second I could. Usually, I would spot one and head over to it, but it would immediately float away. Occasionally one would come over and at least give me a once-over, but then they too would leave me. It was discouraging, but I never gave up hope. My determination was rewarded.

It was a windy day. I could barely fly straight, and clouds kept passing through me and wetting my fleece with their precipitation. I was about to give in for the day when something bumped against my side. I turned to see what it was, and was astonished to see a small Cirrus. The little fellow looked up at me curiously. I stayed absolutely still, not wanting to scare him. He floated around me, inspecting my mane, my badge, my pendant. Finally, he came to my face. We stared into each other's eyes silently. I began to feel a tiny hope that this was it, this was my Cirrus.

That tiny hope soared when the Cirrus snuggled into my mane, blending in perfectly. I couldn't help myself; I was so overjoyed that I did a few flips in the air, even though it was juvenile. I finally had my Cirrus! After all those years of searching and hoping, he was mine.

."I shall call you Cielio," I told him, sealing the deal. Cielio poofed out of my mane for an instant to smile at me, then disappeared again. I could feel him settled there, a constant companion. He loved me, and I loved him. We were meant to be together, I knew that in my heart.

Maybe that legend has some truth to it after all, for I know somehow that I could have no other Cirrus than Cielio.

In Maddie's words...

As soon as I started writing Issuhn's story, I knew I wanted a Cloud Gnorbu as one of the protagonists. For one, I've always loved them and their adorable puffy manes! Also, for some reason, I just felt like a Cloud Gnorbu would be perfect as an admired Admiral. Now, as I wasn't name particular, I decided that I would adopt or rescue this pet rather than creating one. So off I was to the PC!

Very quickly someone offered to gift me a Cloud Gnorbu named Tebor. I immediately accepted, falling in love with the name. However, since my side was not yet four months old, I couldn't receive him. The person was very kind, saying that they'd wait for my account to age.

Sadly, when Tebor's owner was doing a pound transfer to move pets around on their accounts, Tebor was pound-snatched by a foreign user. The person regretfully informed me of this, apologizing for the mishap. I was disappointed that Tebor wouldn't be coming home, but then I had a great idea.

After about a ten minute search at Lost and Pound, I had found ____666. I created the story of his number in the Pomaloth Guard and purchased a Cloud Paint Brush. I finally had my Tebor!

In the end, I'm actually happy that the original Tebor was adopted by someone else. Tebor still got a good home, and I was able to rescue ____666 from a life stuck in the pound. All's well that ends well! :)

Piper

Profile

Name: Piper (PIE-per)

Nicknames: None

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Homeland: ?

Occupation: Guide (to Terror Mountain)

Did you know?

☁ Piper stumbled into Pomaloth just after Issuhn was told that a guide for our journey would appear... Coincidence?
☁ She was looking for something when she arrived in Pomaloth, but she won't tell us what, or if she found it
☁ She left behind her beloved Pink Snowbunny, Berry, when she left for her search
☁ She keeps to herself, so none of us know too much about her

In Piper's words...

."Trespasser!", a Woodland Aisha boomed, jumping out from behind a tree. I was soon surrounded by more Woodland pets, and they quickly hustled me through the woods and onto a path. The path was long, ending at a magnificent palace resting atop a gentle hill. We stopped at the doors and I was ordered to enter and present myself before the Prince.

Though they treated me with next to no respect, I kept my dignity. With my head held high, I marched into the main hall and saw before me a Royalboy Zafara sitting on a grand throne.

."Sir, we have found a trespasser in the woods," the Woodland Aisha boomed.

."I can see that, Admiral. Thank you for bringing her to me. You may go now; I shall deal with our trespasser," the boy responded, with the faintest touch of exasperation in his voice. He spoke confidently enough, but fidgeted where he sat, making him appear anxious. Not very professional for a Prince.

As soon as the Woodland pets left, the Prince relaxed.

."What is your name?" he asked casually. I hesitated, not sure whether I could trust the young Zafara. Finally, I spoke disdainfully, "Piper. Who do I have the pleasure of being captured by?"

He cringed, and right then I knew I could trust him. It was obvious my capture had not been his idea. But I continued to let him believe I was offended. No harm in letting him sweat a little.

."My name is Issuhn. And I apologize for Keladar's rudeness. Years of training have made him very wary of strangers."

Wary? That was an understatement. I narrowed my eyes and responded fiercely, "Just Issuhn? No 'king' or 'lord' in there?"

."Prince, actually," he shrugged. "I didn't really think it was all that important to mention."

Now this was an interesting development. A Prince who wasn't pompous. I kept up the act, figuring this would be the easiest way to learn more about this Prince.

."So why isn't mommy or daddy out here dealing with me? Are they too busy counting up their precious money? Or are they enjoying a lavish feast while your people starve?"

I had gotten carried away, gone further than I intended. An accusing tone had crept into my words, words I shouldn't have shared. They revealed much too much about myself. I'd have to be more careful now.

."Oh no, Pomaloth doesn't work like that. There is no king or queen; my parents are normal citizens. I was chosen to be Prince."

All caution out the door, I pounced on these last words. "So it's a democracy?"

."Not exactly," he admitted. "Musavir, Pomaloth's oracle, selects each Prince. No one knows how he determines who is the best option, but he usually chooses wisely."

What had gotten into me today? Again I had slipped. But I was distracted from my mistake when Issuhn jumped up abruptly. He stared around him wildly, like he didn't know where he was. I took a step backwards. What was going on?

As suddenly as it had happened, it was over. Issuhn staggered and his hand shot to his head like he had a headache.

."I'm terribly sorry, Piper, but we'll have to continue this conversation later," he said in a weird voice, as if every word was an effort to say. Now I was scared.

."Are you all right, Issuhn?" I asked, dropping the act.

."Yes, I'm fine," he grunted. But he wasn't fine, that I could tell. Still he continued talking, "If you walk through the door to your left, there's a hallway. Follow it until you get to the last door on the right. Knock and say that Issuhn sent you, regarding the journey."

The last word was barely out of his mouth when he fell in a heap on the floor. I screamed, and instantly multiple pets surrounded me, all asking what happened, what did I do, what was wrong with him. I just shook my head and trembled, feeling numb. A Spotted Kau pushed through the rapidly growing throng and took Issuhn away. Next thing I knew, an old Royal Kyrii was guiding me out, yelling at the others to leave me alone. He showed me to my room and gruffly told me that I only needed to call if I needed something. Before he left, I grabbed his arm.

."Is Issuhn going to be okay?" I asked, my voice trembling. He glanced at me with a pained look in his eyes.

."I don't know."

In Maddie's words...

Ah, Piper, the character who I so desperately want in this story, but who fights so hard to be developed. I knew before Issuhn's story was even fully formed that I wanted his group to have a female counterpart named Piper. I also knew that she would be rather reclusive, as she has many secrets and hidden motivations. Though I didn't know that even I would be at a loss when it came to developing her character!

Piper is, in part, based on a character in one of my favorite book series. I originally wanted her to be a UC Royalgirl Zafara, but alas, they were automatically converted. So instead I decided that she would be a Royalgirl/Pink crosspaint. I am tentatively considering adopting a Neopet to become Piper, but for now I think I'll keep my options open, as I'm quickly running out of spots on my accounts for pets.

I'm still in the beginning processes of developing Piper's character. At the moment, I've decided that she's a revolutionist from a village in the mountains surrounding Terror Mountain. Her village is run by a selfish and greedy king who causes much suffering to his people. Determined to make a difference, Piper started a revolution to create a democracy to better her homeland. This didn't work out too well, so Piper ran off in search of help, which is how she found Issuhn in Pomaloth.

Piper wants and needs Issuhn and the gang to help her back home. However, she is sure that they will deny her request, as she barely knows them. She decides to wait until they have returned the Snowickle to ask for their help, assuming that at that point they will have no choice but to come to her aid.

What Piper didn't anticipate is the guilt that now plagues her. Now that she's come to know and like Issuhn, Tebor, and Kain, she doesn't like withholding such a huge secret, especially since it directly involves them. Yet at the same time she is afraid to tell them, as there is still the chance that they'll refuse to help her and her cause. So Piper stays silent and acts as if nothing is wrong, when really she is overcome with inner turmoil.

Piper's character is still very much up in the air. Characters usually begin to develop for me as I write, so hopefully I'll know more about her soon!

Kain

Profile

Name: Kain (CANE)

Nicknames: None

Gender: Male

Age: 13

Homeland: Pomaloth

Occupation: Messenger

Did you know?

☁ Kain was selected out of dozens of young boys to be a Palace messenger for his speed, obedience, and enthusiasm
☁ He can communicate with Naleaps by whistling
☁ He's grown very attached to Blizzard, the Snowickle that we're returning to Terror Mountain
☁ His positive attitude never fails to cheer up everyone around him

In Kain's words...

I walked slowly, admiring the serenity of the woods. A Naleap alighted on a branch near me, tilting its head quizzically. I whistled a simple tune, which it quickly picked up. Around me I heard other Naleaps joining in, and I smiled.

Suddenly, I heard a shriek. The Naleaps fled the area in a flutter of wings and startled cries. I immediately began flying full speed towards the source of the noise.

I broke through the trees and stopped right in my tracks. Before me was the Berkley's farm, but it could hardly be called that anymore. It was a wasteland, with only a fraction of crops still standing. The family was standing on their porch, shocked and scared. I hurried over to them.

As I approached, they eyed me warily. They relaxed slightly when I produced my pin with the crest of Pomaloth on it, a sign that indicated I was of palace personnel.

."What happened? Was anyone hurt?" I asked.

."We were just eating our morning meal when we heard this terrible noise, and when we came outside, the fields were just gone!" Mr. Berkley, a Red Tonu, explained. "Everyone's fine though, but I can't say the same for our crops..."

I bowed my head sadly. "I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I must alert the Prince though. Will you all be fine if I leave you here?"

Mr. Berkley nodded. "We'll stay inside, just to be on the safe side."

."Good. Don't worry, Prince Issuhn will be able to do something, I'm sure of it!"

."Thank you, son," Mr. Berkley smiled. Dipping my head to him and his family, I took to the sky and headed as fast as I could to the palace. A half hour later, I burst through the doors.

."Prince Issuhn, it's happened again!"

In Maddie's words...

Kain is a character that I never plan on transferring to an actual pet. That doesn't mean I haven't worked out his personality though!

Kain is the epitome of the perfect Pomaloth messenger: he's eager, he's fast, he obeys orders, and he loves his job. It was always Kain's dream to become more than just a farmer. He didn't want to be stuck in the fields for the rest of his life. No, he wanted to meet new people, see new places, and be able to fly like the wind; thus the appeal in being a messenger. You can only imagine his excitement when he was selected for the job!

Though at the time Kain was only a lower-tier messenger who did odd jobs around Pomaloth, his ambition was to one day be with the best of the best, those messengers who travel far and wide to bring news to Pomaloth. So when Issuhn presented him with the opportunity to do just that by traveling to Terror Mountain, Kain accepted right away. Not only would he be getting to travel just as he always dreamed, he'd also be doing it with two of his heroes: Issuhn and Tebor. All in all, Kain's life really turned around for the better.

Something to note about Kain: he has a special ability to communicate with Naleaps, a skill that comes in handy on the long journey. By whistling certain tunes, Kain can tell the Naleaps to take messages back to Pomaloth and let them know the progress of the journey.

While journeying, Kain forms a unique bond with the Snowickle, whom he names Blizzard. Thus, when the time comes to deliver Blizzard and return home, Kain is forced to make a decision: leave his closest friend or make Terror Mountain his new home. In the end, though he knows he'll dearly miss Pomaloth and the friends he made on the journey, Kain decides to stay with Blizzard.

I really love the simplicity and innocence of Kain's character, and can't wait to play around with it more!

Baron

Profile

Name: Baron (BARE-un)

Nicknames: None

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown (I'm assuming early 50's)

Homeland: Pomaloth

Occupation: Former Prince of Pomaloth

Did you know?

☁ Though he can be rather crass and irritable, he was very popular with the people of Pomaloth
☁ He's very talented at orating, fighting, and mentoring
☁ His relationship with Musavir has never been strong, meaning that he often has difficulties interpreting prophesies
☁ He'd never say it out loud, but he loves Issuhn as a son (don't ask me how I found this out...)

In Baron's words...

I slammed open the door to find Missy and her assistants surrounding the boy. "OUT OF MY WAY!" I roared, pushing through them. My heart in my throat, I checked his pulse. Thank Musavir, it was still beating.

."What happened?" I demanded, turning on Missy. She took a step back, frightened by my rage.

."I-I'm not sure sir, only the girl was there when it happened. He's running a high fever, but other than that he doesn't seem to be in a critical state. He should-"

She stopped as Issuhn jerked to consciousness and began gasping. We both rushed to his side.

."Sweetie, how are you feeling? What happened?" Missy asked him, grabbing a damp cloth and using it to dab his forehead. I waited anxiously for his response.

."I-I-I was talking to Piper, and then, the pain, and purple smoke, and the paths, I have to choose, choose, and if I don't...No! I can't fail them!" he cried out, leaping from his bed. He swayed, his eyes wild with fear. Without warning, he cried out again, "Piper! Where is she? I have to save her!"

."Issuhn!" I barked, fear making my voice sharp. "Tell me now, boy, what nonsense are you talking about?"

He looked at me quizzically. "I already told you, I have to choose..."

And with that he fell. I leapt forward and caught him in my arms, cursing under my breath. Missy helped me put the boy back in bed. We both watched worriedly as he began to toss and turn, muttering "Choose" in his sleep.

I began to pace, becoming increasingly agitated. What was wrong with him? Was he going to be okay? He had to be, nothing could happen to him. No, not again, he had to get better!

I stopped when Missy set a hoof on my shoulder. "Maybe you should get some rest. There's nothing more you can do for him now. Don't worry, I'll keep a close eye on him," she reassured me softly. I nodded briskly, then hurried to my quarters. I didn't sleep well that night.

In Maddie's words...

I knew that Issuhn needed a mentor, and I knew that his mentor would be a Royal pet. So I headed over to the Rainbow Pool and started searching. As soon as my eyes lit upon the Royalboy Kyrii, I knew I had found Issuhn's mentor. The long hair and handsome clothes alluded to one who was once majestic and admired, and the arching eyebrows created the sense that though still royal, the man had fallen into a state of constant irritability.

Baron's crass personality is based on Haymitch from the Hunger Games. The instant I saw those eyebrows, I thought of the irritable yet lovable mentor of Katniss and Peeta. Like Haymitch, Baron is old and surly, but portrays a feeling that he was not always so. Indeed, Baron used to be strong and amiable, but years of mentoring Princes who have failed to successfully rule Pomaloth have turned him sour.

Now that Issuhn is in power, Baron has shown signs of returning to his previous nature, albeit slowly. He's starting to show his fatherly affections for Issuhn, though he's still quite tough on him. Issuhn doesn't really understand this concept of "tough love", but it seems to be working. Baron's lessons have a way of sticking with Issuhn, which is a good thing. Baron should be proud!

I absolutely adore Baron and his character. He's so much fun to play with, and has endless possibilities. I've only just begun with his character; who knows where he might end up!

Others

There are many other individuals who played an important part in our story. Below I've listed them and provided a brief description of each.

Musavir

For as long as the history of Pomaloth has been kept, Musavir has been the Prince or Princess' oracle and consultant. Musavir and Issuhn share a strong connection, a good and bad thing. Good, because this means that Issuhn easily understands Musavir's advice and prophesies. Bad, because Issuhn is often plagued by recurring visions unintentionally sent by Musavir. It was Musavir who gave Issuhn the prophesy that led us to Terror Mountain.

Blizzard

Our entire journey revolves around this small petpet. Blizzard is the son of the Snowager. For reasons unknown to us, he was zapped by the Petpet Lab Ray and transported to Pomaloth, where he quickly began wrecking havoc on our fields. It was Issuhn, Kain, and myself who eventually caught him and discovered his heritage. After a consultation with Musavir, we decided to travel to Terror Mountain to return Blizzard to his father.

Keladar

Keladar is the Admiral of the Foot Division of the Pomaloth Guard. He's argumentative, hotheaded, and sullen. But he's also strong, intuitive, and an outstanding fighter. Though he's hard to work with and loath to follow orders, no one can doubt his superior skills in battle.
Issuhn and Keladar have never gotten along well, and things became especially tense between them when Keladar was not selected to accompany us on the journey. I predict Issuhn will have his paws full trying to deal with Keladar from now on...

Missy

Missy is the palace nurse. Trained by the village healer right in Pomaloth, Missy knows a great deal about healing and medicine. However, when Issuhn mysteriously got sick after his vision, Missy was baffled. Never before had she seen such sudden and unexplained illness. Try as she might, she could do nothing more for Issuhn than to keep his fever down. She cares deeply for Issuhn and felt as if she failed him, a shame that stayed with her for a very long time.
