Welcome to the dark and dank world that I live in...don't make yourself comfortable, it's not exactly possible.

Time and the world were both against them. The frantic drumming of hooves moved through the forest, dampened by the soft, wet grass beneath them. Throwing themselves over fallen trees and black chasms, they ran, hitting each other in the mad dash to the safe side of the forest. The strong smell of animal sweat and blood stained the air, mingling with the stench, the stink of humanity.

Horses with metal adorned mouths and leather bound bodies led the attack. Pained screams, shouts and the constant 'twang' of bowstrings echoed in the clearing they had reached. Falling bodies hitting the floor increased the wild panic – the chased beasts' eyes were rolling, spit was flying...then it stopped. Silence screamed in their ears as they turned on the wild cry of a fallen mare in the last stages of life-bearing. The twanging of bowstrings was blocked from their ears as she let out one small, pathetic whine before her head fell and the herd suddenly turned, eyes flashing in the tree-filtered sunlight.

They moved as one body with the same thoughts and feelings, the same raw anger. They opened their mouths and the screams of their friends was the last thing the humans in that clearing heard.

They had once been a peaceful species, hunting only for food and fighting only for pride.
9.02.2054 was the day they developed a taste for human flesh.
It was the day that the humans started living in fear of a species they viewed as below them, a day when humans realized they weren't the most advanced species on earth in many ways.
It was also the day a new foal was born. 2 weeks premature, brought on by the shock of a chase and a tranquilizer arrow being shot at a very swollen-bellied mare. It was the birth of Naz'gul.

  • Name: Equus Dracona tag no: #736 {known in the herd as Naz'gul}

  • Age: 7 years approx.

  • Occupation: Hunter in early retirement - banished from the herd for the unforseeable future. Hasn't been seen since.

  • Teeth Length: 4 inch canines, other around 1-2". Largest in the herd besides the leader, Liuh'gul.

  • Body type: Draft horse/shire - feathered legs and a stocky build.

  • Fur colour: Deep purple.

  • Mane/fin colour:: Black with small dots of bioluminescent matter.

Eye colour: N/A - no eyes. Relies on other senses for hunting. Doesn't seem to disable her much at all.

  • Danger level: High. Hunts humans that aren't in the harvesting program. Prefers healthy humans. Warnings have been issued.

  • Height: 25.2hh

  • Weight: 2000+lbs (inc. tail)

  • Main attack plan: Straight forward. Always goes for the kill. Do not assume that she is easy to defeat because she is blind - the Draconi failed to destroy her.

Naz'gul, otherwise known as Naz or Nay by her parents and close 'friends' (close friends are rare - it's usually more of a soulmate, family or family friends thing to give nicknames) isn't the nicest of the Equus Dracona, otherwise known as 'dragon horses' (due to the fact that humans are really creative, you see.). She's sarcastic and snappy when she talks and it's rare that you'll find her being affectionate or friendly towards somebody else, even her family. Her blood relatives even dislike her due to her attitude - she thinks she can get what she wants when she wants it. She's strong and fearless and why shouldn't she be? She has nothing to fear but fear itself - she can run fast and bite hard. It's all you need to survive in the world she lives in.

In the rare moments that she is being nice, affectionate and friendly, it won't be towards you. She's only like that with the foals. Part of her wants them to grow up loving her like they do their mothers and part of her wants them to fear her like everybody else does. She lost her chance, though, as the dams and sires now warn their children about the now rogue mare. Due to her disappearence, she's now simply become a legend, a tale told to frighten foals and human children alike into going to bed when they're told and eating up all of their food.

As you can see, her design is quite simple - she does just look like another one of her species, nothing special about her except the fact that her mask covers her eyes and she's a different colour to them.

She's usually got a very serious face - she rarely smiles and if it is it's generally going to be a smirk and also the last thing you'll ever see.

Naz'gul has different legs to the other's, who generally have horse type legs - it is seen that she's the 'basis' of the new breed, as this mutation would make it easier to pick up prey in flight as well as her knees being double jointed, which means they can either bend back or forward - flight or running.

Image here of legs demonstrating

The problem is, all of these mutations are pretty much redundant when you're stuck in a world when nobody can talk to you or see you but you can see them.

Naz'gul watches the world go by without even seeing it. She can hear the joy and fights of the outside world but she's trapped in a bubble of time and space - the most she can do is move items around. She can't throw them at people, just move them to freak people out. After a while, being a poltergeist becomes boring and tiring.
While she'd never admit it to anybody, she's lonely. She misses the company of another being, she misses voices, people talking to her, whether it was in spite or kind words from her childhood.

Another interesting point to make would be her sight, or lack thereof. She got her eyes torn out in a fight and she's not seen the light of day since - her hearing and smell are extremely advanced because of this. She can hear a cricket chirping to a radius of about 200 meters and people chatting normally for much further. Similar to a shark, she can smell a drop of blood from a mile away.
Her gifts with this have become her curse, though - she's constantly hungry but she can never die, she never ages, changes or...well, she can't do anything a normal sentient being could do. Right now, she honestly wants to die.

Too bad that's impossible.

The Equus Draconus, otherwise known as 'Dragon Horse' or 'Horse Dragon' is the species that Naz'gul belongs to. They are quite a complex species and they are continuously evolving, as I said earlier about Naz'gul's legs.

Originating from the sea, they are an equine species that evolved quite dramatically from the humble Plesiosaur. Everybody previously believed that the Plesiosaur had died out with the dinosaurs (contrary to popular belief it was never classed as a dinosaur) but they just evolved. Over millions of years, they slowly evolved to the body we see today.

Hearing: Like horses, they have an excellent sense of hearing. Their ears can flick around 180 degrees for all around hearing. They flick their ears to whoever's talking.
Again, like horses, the ears play a large part how they show what they're feeling. Since they have no eyebrows it's quite hard to show what they're feeling (there's another word I want to use here but it erased half of my coding last time...it begins with E.) so they use their ears as eyebrows in a way. If you see a smile on their lips, don't automatically assume the Draconi you're talking to is a happy bunny. Look at the ears. If they're pressed back, that's a smirk. If they're flicked forwards, they're actually quite happy.

They're also used to show respect. If you're talking to one in a noisy area and they have one ear fixed on you, that's respect right there that they actually want to listen to whatever you're spouting.

Eyesight: They actually have quite poor eyesight. They see as a colourblind human would and they have a low perception of depth, everything is quite flat and 2d to them. They can quite easily live without sight and that is what Naz'gul does.

Smell and breathing: They have a very good sense of smell. Similar to sharks, they could smell a drop of blood in an olympic-sized swimming pool. Just one small drop.

The switch to land messed up their breathing a bit as generally, they never used to breathe from the mouth - they have slits on the front of their chest that acted as gills. They still breathe from there now, but their mouth has adapted to become a breathing passage. The nose is still used purely for smelling.

Hooves: The shape of the front hooves on my picture wasn't a mistake. They have three point hooves - they actually distrubite the front leg weight between three points rather than one flat surface, as is the case with their back hooves, which are cloven.
Having three points on their feet means they can feel a lot more than horses. They're more like fingers than hooves, in the end. This is a good thing as well as a bad thing - they can tell exactly what they're walking on, the change in humidity and ground wetness, etc...at the same time, if a thorn gets in their hooves, it hurts. A lot.

Masks: Now we're getting onto the more cultural things. The Equus Draconus are a very advanced species considering they're so beast-like. They can speak in a large variety of languages and they are fast learners yet they still live in the wild, like animals would, and they act and survive as a herd.
Their masks are a matter of status. The more expensive the metal and jewels, the higher up they are in the group. Gold is the rarest and reserved only for the leader and his partner. Their children and second in commands get silver masks and the rest of the group get metsla like titanium, copper and iron. A member in exile still wears their masks but the jewels are turned to purple to show they are no longer a member of the pack.

Names: Names are another 'status' thing. They can have whatever prefix they want for a first name but they must have a suffix relating to the job they take in the herd.
Gul as a suffix mostly relates to high up Draconi. The leader, his partner and children all recieve this suffix.
Arua as a suffix is mostly for hunters but the suffix Gul is also a hunter name.
Ona this is the suffix for the medicinal ones - the doctors of their herd. They are experienced in herbs and healing bad wounds.
Ba is what's given to foals, hence the similarity to Baby.

Usually, they will be called by their full names. However, in cases such as family, very close friends and partners, they may refer to them as just the prefix of the name.

29.02.2054, the war ended between Human and Equus Draconi. The first pact was made. Very sick and fatally ill humans will be harvested in return for the safety of the world. .
This order has been passed by the UN and the President of the United States of America.

10.03.2054, the Equus Dracona have established and taken hold of most European states. Russia, Britain and France remain untouched.

01.14.2054, the Equus Dracona have now taken hold of the USA and all European states. By doing this, most countries have already surrendered to them. They are competent in battle and large in numbers. All hope is lost.

Plot Outline: Naz'gul, the daughter of the leader, essentially the heir to the throne. She believes she has it all and whatever she wants, she gets it. For a long time, this is honestly true - she's a spoilt little brat who plays on her father's kindness and her mother's desperation for her child to be happy and safe in the horrible world they live in.

She grows up and she starts joining the hunts and tastes her first freshly killed man, not the usual bed-ridden sick man they would eat as given to them by the deal from the world. They get whatever they need from them, in return, anybody human gets spared. Of course, they weren't too keen on this, so anybody a mile away from them at any one time gets spared. Naz'gul caught a straggler and boy, did she enjoy it.

The addiction set in. She slowly and surely started seeping into towns - she'd grab people off the street, anything just for the taste. At the same time, she felt like she was doing her species justice - so many had been lost in the small yet devestating war between the Equus Dracona and the Humans. She was just taking the numbers back, despite the fact that they had defeated many more humans than Draconi were lost.

They tried to stop her - they removed her eyes and replaced her mask, yet to no avail. She still had her hearing and smell and they simply couldn't take them away - they didn't want her to do what she did but if she couldn't hear or smell she would be a sitting duck.

She hunted until one fateful day in her life that she'll remember forever. There was a strange being - made of stone but it seemed to be alive, somehow. It moved fast, faster than her ears could pick up - one minute she was in 2054, the next minute she was gone. Disappeared from the face of the earth forever. Where did she go? Well, she doesn't even know that herself.

STORY EXCERPT:

I did start writing the story so I decided I would put up the beginning for you, Reiin (: I hope you enjoy it!

Children, settle down… the words were uttered from two mouths at once, one contained rows of sharp, jagged teeth. The other contained a pair of weak enamel teeth, designed only to chew food already dead and cooked.
If you don't settle soon, Naz'gul might come for you.
The human children and foals alike shut up and instantly settled down, fear very clear on their faces. "…Mummy?" One brave little soul piped up, bright blue eyes staring up at his parent figure. Will you tell us Naz'gul's story? I promise we'll all sleep. He looked around at his siblings and his lips pulled over his sharp teeth very slightly – a warning.
…Oh, if it will make you calm down then, yes. The mother nodded.

It started on an utterly normal, warm and sunny day. The herd had been hunting peacefully, back when we dined on elk, deer and berries. The foals pulled a face at this. The Hunters came for us. They wanted our teeth and our pelts. They wanted to string us up as meat and have our heads as trophies – well, we weren't having any of that. At first, as a warning, we just ran away from them. If they left us alone then we would have no reason to, but no, the hunters on their horses followed and they started shooting arrows at us.
We have no idea what was on the arrowheads but it sent whoever received one into a deep unconscious state. Some died from the overdose of it. The last straw was when it hit a swollen-bellied mare-
she was cut off by a little voice.
Naz'gul's mother!
Yes, dear, Naz'gul's mother. Now, let me continue or I will leave it there… the silence followed was a confirmation of no more interruptions. Good. She was shot down and the rest of us retaliated. The man was the most delicious thing we had eaten – of course, the horses went free. Horses are our friends and family, we must never eat or hurt them unless absolutely necessary…anyway. Man…if you were so used to a diet like ours, the man was a delicacy. He was sweet and tangy, soft, easy to eat, the bones crunchy with a gooey center…It was like heaven, a gourmet meal. The foals were running dark red tongues along their lips at this. Of course, after such an ordeal we knew Man would be returning. Mankind is one of the most stubborn species out there. They believe they are the sole creators and owners of the earth and they believe that whatever on it is their own to take, harvest and experiment on as they please. We were eager to show them otherwise and that we did.
