Neopia is such a fascinating place, simply *crawling* with history and myth.

Here at the Neopian Museum of Ancient History, we seek to uncover Neopia's past and pass knowledge on to you through our continuing Archaeological Programme.

Archaeology is the study of Neopian culture through the recovery, documentation and analysis of remains and artefacts.

So what have we discovered so far? Take a look and see!

POTTERY:

Examples of these include bowls, vases, pots, urns and jugs. Some pottery artefacts found are very plain, while others, such as those of the Lost Desert can be large and beautiful!

WEAPONRY:

Many kinds of weapon including daggers, bows, shields, spears and swords have been found where ancient battles took place. Tyrannia, Sakhmet and Qasalan are famous for the fabulous array of weapons that have been uncovered there.

SCROLLS:

Ancient scrolls can tells historians many things about life in the past – rules and laws, information about everyday life and even the spells, curses and myths that the people practiced and believed in. Many scrolls have been unearthed in the Lost Desert region – Qasalan seems to have been particularly renowned for its huge library containing many excellent specimens.

JEWELLERY:

Ahh so many beautiful pieces! The collection at the Neopian Museum of Ancient History includes many stunning examples of shell and claw necklaces from Mystery Island, as well as golden circlets and amulets from the Lost Desert.

CURRENCY:

Coins have been found on Mystery Island, in the Lost Desert and in chests filled with pirate treasure! Whether made of gold, silver, clay, wood or bronze, coins depict what was important to the culture that created it.

NEOPET REMAINS:

Alas, sometimes only the bones remain. But never you mind, bones and teeth can tell us all sorts of things about the diet and lifestyle of those ancient neopets they belonged to.

BACKGROUND INFO:

History, map and reference books such as these are vital – they tell you not only where to dig, but also what you're looking for and what to expect.

TOOLS:

The older the artefacts we want to find the deeper we have to dig! You'll need a good shovel, and don't forget your toolbox; it's full of items used to pry objects from the rock and clean them up.

RECORDING EQUIPMENT:

It is very important to keep detailed records of every object you find, including exactly when and where it was found, as well as its size and any other details you can jot down. This information is vital to the interpretation of the artefacts and recorded information is kept safe in the museum archives.
