Silver's Guide to Roleplaying Hello, and thank you for your time on reading this. First of all, Role Playing is like telling a story. It's a great way to make friends, enemies, and also have fun. But before you start role playing, you need to know the Do's, and Don't. If you don't know how to role play and you go visit the boards any way, a lot of people may give you the mean glare so it's best you learn now. First rule of role playing. When using an Official Character, like Sonic the Hedgehog or Ash from Pokemon, make sure you don't go "out of character", meaning making them do things they'd NEVER do. Like, why in the world would Shadow the Hedgehog be seen wearing a pink tutu while chanting in an ancient language and sky dive at the same time? And no, even if they are being brain washed or whatever, they HAVE to snap out of it sometime. Because sooner or later, it'll just get plain boring. My advice, best that you make your own character. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. Just fill out the form below, and you've got yourself a character!

Name: Here, you put the name of your character! Make sure it's unique, though. You want to avoid having the same name of someone else, becuase things can get confusing. Oh yeah, also make sure it fits the rp/game they're from, so it makes more sense. But make sure you don't name them something like NekoHina Raitoshine. That's... Bad. Name Meaning: What does the name mean? Nicknames: Any simple names your character goes by? Age: One of the main things about the character is their age. From a 1 year old, all the way to milleniums. You decide. But, don't make TOO many characters "Over 1000 years old but looks 15". 1 or 2 is ok, maybe a whole family. But... Don't go overboard. Species: Human? Monkey? Dog in a Fish Costume? Species is also very umportant. You can go ahead and make your own, like hybrids, but avoid stuff like "Dog/Crow/Fish/Snake/Dragon/Dove/Raven/Monster". Two or Three is fine, but beyond, it's too much and is VERY confusing. Gender: Boy or Girl? Unknowns are well.... Unknown. o.o Height: How tall is your character? Weight: Fat or Skinny? XP IQ: Is your character a doofus? Or are they the smartest there is? Avoid making your character "The smartest than everyone else", because then, some jerks may come and ask you random nonsense. Make their IQ either near yours, or lower, because those are easier to act like and answer any questions that go up to that level. Marital Status: Married, Taken, or Single? DOB: When was your charater born? On a holiday? Or a normal day? Voice: Don't really need to do this one, but is your character a low pitched, or sounds like a squeaky mouse? Birth Place: Where was your character born? Earth? Or on a distant planet? Where? Residence: Where is your character now? Occupation: Does your character have a job? Social Class: Poor hobo? Or a rich, royal king? "Richest in the World" is ok, but then, don't go calling people names because your character just so happens to have a lot of money. You probably don't yourself. :/ Alignment: Good or Evil? Maybe both? Basic Stats ((0/10 10 being highest/strongest)) Agility - How fast can your character gain speed? Speed - How fast is your character? Strength - How strong is your character? Defense - Can your character stand in lava and still be cold as ice? Evasiveness - How fast can your character get away? Dexterity - How quick-acting and ninja-like is your character? Intelligence - Smartz. |D Skill - Can your character aim and hit very well? ((VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Avoid making all these 10, or atleast all of them above 9. Because NOBODY likes an "All-Perfect/No Flaws" character. That's cheating. BUT, if your character never fights or always runs away, or SOMETHING, then I guess it's ok. Just don't rub it in other people's faces or else you'll be filled with hate-mail.)) Special Attacks: This is where you can start being creative. Design your own, custom attacks, describe what they do and how they are performed. Try not to make an instant death move that never misses though, that's cheating. And no one likes cheaters. Abilities & Aptitude: Is your character able to walk on a thin fense and not fall over like a kitty? Can they read a book without even looking at it? Only you can decided. But, remember. No one likes "perfect", because no one really is. "Super Extra Ordinary", well, you need GOOD reasons and explanations for those. "Just because" isn't good at all. Hobbies & Talents: What does your character like doing, and what do they do best? Weaknesses: EVERYTHING IN THE WHOLE STINKIN UNIVERSE AND DEMENSION has a weakness. Even the most godly character there is has a weakness. Make sure your character has atleast 2-3 weakness though, but don't go on listing about everything, because then anything can hurt them. Give them SOME strength, but not too many. Make sure their weaknesses and such relates to their species. Personal facts Friends: Is your character a loner or popular? Avoid making them friends with official character though. Becasue out of that dream world of yours, the official characters don't know you AT ALL. Rivals: Do they have any rivals? Again, no official characters. Enemies: I think you should know by now. Known relatives: Family, relatives, long lost cousin, whatever! No official characters unless the company or creator of them says so! Likes/Favorite activities: What does your character like? Dislikes/Least favorite activities: Everyone has dislikes, of coarse. Gourmet of choice: Favorite Food? Beverages of choice: Favorite Drink? Soda, milk, water, what? Favorite color(s): Choose any colors you like, go ahead and name all of them. Personality: Adventurous? Shy? Big fat Bully? What is your character like? Physical Appearance Skin Color: White, tan, black, GREEN? Eye Color: You can choose a regular color, like brown, blue, or green, or you can make them unsual like red, rainbow, or purple. Or maybe one eye blue, the other eye grey. Something that matches. But avoid making them change color due to mood. If they change color because of a certain power they have, that's ok. Just don't go over 3 colors or so. Hair Style: Hair is somewhat important, since it sorta tells what kind of personality your character has. The hair can be black, blonde, brown, or your character can go crazy and make it pink, green, or white. Not just the color of the hair counts, but the looks and feel to it too. Is it long and flowy or small and spiky? Does your character use hair gel often? And do they shower everyday? Boots/Shoes Color: Bare Foot or boots? Tennis shoes are popular. Shirt/Jacket Color: Does your character wear a shirt or jacket? Or they use a cardboard box? Misc. Clothing Color: Here, you can say what other clothing your character has and what color. A red scarf? A bunny hat? Other bodily features: Does your character have any scars or tatoos? Don't go overboard just to make your character look "cool" or "awesome". It gets freaky. Attire: This is basically where you can describe what your character looks like. Like how do they wear their belts, or what their face looks like. That sort of thing. Weapons: Any weapons for attacking or self defence? Other Items: Any items? Don't say anything like an all powerful item that has the power of all existing beings, that's GODMODING, and cheating. Ok, now onto the theme songs! Your character doesn't really need them, but music can sometimes tell other people what your character is like. Main Theme song: 2nd Theme song: 3rd Theme song: Battle Theme song: Dancing Theme song: Depressed Theme song: Loseing Control Theme: Confused/Alone Theme: With --------: With --------: ------ Discription: Decribe your character in a nutshell, AKA, in short. How do they usually act to strangers? Where can they be found most of the time? Ect. Background/Story: Does your character have a dark and sad past they can never forget about? Or are they just a happy, normal person? Quotes are basically what your cahracter likes saying most, but don't go overbaord. Just choose one. Quote: Personal Quote: Random Quote:

Mary Sues are usually female characters that have no flaws, and basically ALL the boys fall for them. They usually would have something like strange colored eyes, or different color hair, or even fairy wings! They also claim to have a dark past, or be with an Original character, and not to mention, be "perfect". Sometimes, a Mary Sue can also be basically useless, the exact opposite of perfect. Gary Stus are male versions of Mary Sues, all the girls fall for them. For some reason, they are 95% of the time elf-like. Avoid them at all costs.

And there you have it! You're own character! Just remember, make sure they don't look or act too much like another person's character because then, it can get a bit confusing and break out into a fight. OH YEAH, BEFORE I FORGET, I run into this like 95% of the time. For whatever fandom your character is in(Mainly Sonic and Billy Hatcher), DO. NOT. RECOLOR. Recolor is technically, you take an Original character, then just slapping other colors onto them and then claiming it's your own character. I've seen too many Green Sonics, Black and Red Amys, oh yeah, also, AVOID SWITCHING GENDERS OF OFFICIAL CHARACTERS. That's sickening also. In fact, so many people get so out of hand with recolors, already I've found people who ripped me and my friends off. That's just plain sad. If you continue to do this, you realize you can get in BIG trouble, yes? It's against the law, it's called Plagiarism. Remember, YOU WILL GET CAUGHT.

Ok, now onto the next step~! Remember, when you role play, remember that the law of physics still exists. You can't just hurl someone 20 feet in the air just by waving HI at them! Even if your character DOES have a reality bending skill! You have to play FAIR with the other people, or else they'll either ignore you or just leave the whole rp. A fish can't just start walking on land and start talking about how its day was, even if it had been labbed on. Terribly random rps tend to get annoying sooner or later.

DO The earth shook as Kanji's roar echoed in the sky. Getting up quickly, Karasun charged towards him and fired a couple dark energy blasts at the dragon. Kanji chuckled lightly to himself as he fired a stream of black fire back at her. The two attacks collided, created a small explosion. That was part of a story I was writing a couple days ago, using my own characters. Nothing wrong with it, really. But HERE'S what you really want to avoid doing.

Laughing at her poor attempt to do anything, Kanji dodged her attack and breathed black fire all over her, destroying her instantly. Woah... Now that's just WRONG. I actually laugh at what I just typed! Here's what's the matter. Kanji may be an over-powered freak, but in that, that's just plain unfair! There's a big difference in the two paragraphs. And second, Karasun is NOT a wimpy weakling! She may have poor defense, but atleast she can still fight! Uhh, anyways, moving on...

Let's see now, what else is there... Oh! I almost forgot. When role playing, be sure to use some very descriptive details!

Thunder clashed as lighting struck in the dark, stormy night. Winds were raging all in different directions as a figure hiked in the damp forest. No one could see its face because of the large, heavy rain coat it wore. It struggled to move since it felt like the air was pulling back on the rain coat. Using its strong talons, it was able to hold onto the muddy ground below and continue on. A few feet away in its path, was a large palace. The Royal Crow's Nest. As it walked closer to the palace gates, it was quickly greeted by two, large demon crows wearing fancy armor. They both held strong, durable spears in each claw, their glowing crimson eyes glared down at the creature. I admit it, that was another thing coming out of a story I'm writing. See, details explaining what's going on. Details that give the people a basic idea, and actually sounds like a real story. Just don't go too far and using words people probably won't know without going to look at either a dictionary or thesaurus. Oh, and don't forget. SPELLING AND GRAMMAR COUNTS.
