Lilett stared at the sky as the fires around her diminished. She was only vaguely aware of her body, her port wing was broken; she could begin to feel it throbbing as the adrenaline wore off. And gradually as her paling eyes searched the stars, the pain began to come; it first came in small waves until the full enormity of it consumed her. She was dying, she knew it. The fall had mortally wounded her.

But whilst Lilett was not afraid of death, she would not accept her fate. Despite the fire inside her heart was growing stiller by the second, burning less brightly... she did not have the will to die. That was a part of her, despite being a small part, that knew deep within her core that she had a destiny to fulfil, and for the first time of her life she realized that perhaps she had not fulfilled it yet. It was not her time. She would not allow herself to die.

And it was perhaps her will that kept her going for so long. Her pained eyes continued to gaze longingly into the heavens, until they finally rested on a lick of blue that burned in the sky. Blue flames scoring the night. But as her own fire within herself stilled, she realized that the blue was not burning but was the opposite, it was melting... a comet.

And still to this day, Lilett does not understand what happened to her that night. It was as if as she stared at that icy body racing past the planet, it gave her that last will to live. Her world suddenly darkened as she finally gave way to her subconscious. The fire within her that powered her soul burnt out. Her warm colouration in her feathers faded to soft greys and white, with the occasional lick of blue... like a comet. Her prayers had been heard, and had given her a second chance. She had been reborn. But when she would awake again, no longer was she a Drakares of flame, but one of ice...

Lilett's origin.

The Drakares are mystical birds that have been around since ancient times. The name is literally translated into Dragon birds, but they are more commonly known as Phoenixes. It is a little known fact that Phoenixes do not just wield the power of fire, but are actually elementals so wield their power from any specific element. However, for an unknown reason, the other elementals other than fire have nearly all died out. It is believed this is because a great fire consumed all of Rivian (the continent Lilett and my other characters live in) thousands of years ago, and only the Fire Drakares survived. Unlike the common legends of the Pheonix, Drakares are not reborn in their ashes. Most are mortal. Or at least, although it is a great rarity, some are lucky enough to be granted with immortality and are reborn when they die, just like the legends of the Phoenix tell. Lilett is one of those lucky few.

Lilett was born a Fire Drakares, in the snowy kingdoms in northern Rivian. She was born into a small clan called the Pyrspiro, which is translated into The Flame Breathers. The members of the Pyrspiro clan are typically either Snowy Owl, Great horned, or Gryfalcon, however they are not all blood related. This is because the hatching of a Drakares does not always have to come from two Drakares parents, but can come from two normal parents. The chicks are often found and rescued because they often accidentally set fire to their nests or are abandoned by their parents due to their odd appearance. Like many others, Lilett was abandoned at a very young age by her parents due to her striking plumage of gold and reds. She was found and rescued by Milof, an elder of the clan, who since then has acted as her surrogate father.

The story summary.
When Lilett was still only young, herself and three members of her clan flew south for a hunting trip during the winter because food in the frozen regions had become scarce. Upon arriving to a forest, the group was attacked by an rival clan to that territory. None were Drakares, but instead were an evil group of birds called The Noxbeaks, who tried to capture them to use their powers as part of a greater scheme. Lilett's fellow member of her clan, in trying to defend himself, accidently caused a raging forest fire. It quickly spread, and in pure rage for causing such destruction to their terrain a member of the Noxbeaks tried to kill Lilett for vengeance, despite her orders. She broke Lilett's wing in mid flight which caused her to plummet to the ground to her death. Lilett miraculously didn't die on impact but still she lay dying. The Noxbeaks fled when her clan members managed to escape and drive them off since they drew power from the fires. However they couldn't locate Lilett's body and believed her to be dead, so in grief for their loss flew back to the north to deliver the sad news to the rest of the Pryspiro.
However, in what was a miracle, Lilett somehow unknown to her before she died drew strength from a passing comet she gazed at in the night. She herself believes she simply fell unconscious however truly she died but was actually reborn. However when she awoke, her fiery plumage had faded to greys, whites and soft blues and she actually had transformed to a Drakares of ice. She is one of the very few Drakares who have been reborn. Shortly after she regained her strength, she flew immediately back to The Pryspiro where they greeted her in shock but joy.

In Lilett's present life, she is no longer a Drakares of fire but one of ice. Because of her transformation she is a very respected member of her clan, and hopes one day to start her own clan of only Ice Drakares, so this specific elemental can regain strength. However she has yet to meet another Ice Drakares. Since her transformation her and Milof have been researching into the other elementals, often visiting the mountains of Kawdon (where currently my faerie pteri, Curetis resides) and borrowing their great library. Lilett also has been searching the kingdoms for any other type of Drakares that do not wield fire but other elements, in belief that some may still be left. Eventually they come across Crowia, who is known by her people as the Rain bird but in fact is a Drakares of air; she can control the weather. Curetis also actually in truth is a Drakares of light, a species long thought extinct for good, however no one really has discovered this yet as he has no obvious powers.

So what can a Ice Drakares actually do? Lilett can freeze water, therefore can create ice using the water molecules from the air or a nearby water source as well as manipulate it. Usually it takes years of practice to masterfully control their element but Lilett took to hers as soon as she was transformed by the comet. No one really knows why or how this is even possible, it is simply so.
